Meta-conformal algebras in $d$ spatial dimensions

Meta-conformal transformations are constructed as dynamical symmetries of the linear transport equation in $d$ spatial dimensions. In one and two dimensions, the associated Lie algebras are infinite-dimensional and isomorphic to the direct sum of either two or three Virasoro algebras. Co-variant two-point correlators are derived and possible physical applications are discussed.

On integral representations and asymptotics of some hypergeometric functions in two variables

The leading asymptotic behaviour of the Humbert functions $Φ_2$, $Φ_3$, $Ξ_2$ of two variables is found, when the absolute values of the two independent variables become simultaneosly large. New integral representations of these functions are given. These are re-expressed as inverse Laplace transformations and the asymptotics is then found from a Tauberian theorem. Some integrals of the Humbert functions are also analysed.

Non-local meta-conformal invariance, diffusion-limited erosion and the XXZ chain

Diffusion-limited erosion is a distinct universality class of fluctuating interfaces. Although its dynamical exponent $z=1$, none of the known variants of conformal invariance can act as its dynamical symmetry. In $d=1$ spatial dimensions, its infinite-dimensional dynamic symmetry is constructed and shown to be isomorphic to the direct sum of three loop-Virasoro algebras, with the maximal finite-dimensional sub-algebra $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})\oplus\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})\oplus\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})$. The infinitesimal generators are spatially non-local and use the Riesz-Feller fractional derivative. Co-variant two-time response functions are derived and reproduce the exact solution of diffusion-limited erosion. The relationship with the terrace-step-kind model of vicinal surfaces and the integrable XXZ chain are discussed.

From dynamical scaling to local scale-invariance: a tutorial

Dynamical scaling arises naturally in various many-body systems far from equilibrium. After a short historical overview, the elements of possible extensions of dynamical scaling to a local scale-invariance will be introduced. Schrödinger-invariance, the most simple example of local scale-invariance, will be introduced as a dynamical symmetry in the Edwards-Wilkinson universality class of interface growth. The Lie algebra construction, its representations and the Bargman superselection rules will be combined with non-equilibrium Janssen-de Dominicis field-theory to produce explicit predictions for responses and correlators, which can be compared to the results of explicit model studies. At the next level, the study of non-stationary states requires to go over, from Schrödinger-invariance, to ageing-invariance. The ageing algebra admits new representations, which acts as dynamical symmetries on more general equations, and imply that each non-equilibrium scaling operator is characterised by two distinct, independent scaling dimensions. Tests of ageing-invariance are described, in the Glauber-Ising and spherical models of a phase-ordering ferromagnet and the Arcetri model of interface growth.

Non-local meta-conformal invariance in diffusion-limited erosion

The non-stationary relaxation and physical ageing in the diffusion-limited erosion process ({\sc dle}) is studied through the exact solution of its Langevin equation, in $d$ spatial dimensions. The dynamical exponent $z=1$, the growth exponent $β=\max(0,(1-d)/2)$ and the ageing exponents $a=b=d-1$ and $λ_C=λ_R=d$ are found. In $d=1$ spatial dimension, a new representation of the meta-conformal Lie algebra, isomorphic to $\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})\oplus\mathfrak{sl}(2,\mathbb{R})$, acts as a dynamical symmetry of the noise-averaged {\sc dle} Langevin equation. Its infinitesimal generators are non-local in space. The exact form of the full time-space dependence of the two-time response function of {\sc dle} is reproduced for $d=1$ from this symmetry. The relationship to the terrace-step-kink model of vicinal surfaces is discussed.

Meta-conformal invariance and the boundedness of two-point correlation functions

The covariant two-point functions, derived from Ward identities in direct space, can be affected by consistency problems and can become unbounded for large time- or space-separations. This difficulty arises for several extensions of dynamical scaling, for example Schrödinger-invariance, conformal Galilei invariance or meta-conformal invariance, but not for standard ortho-conformal invariance. For meta-conformal invariance in 1+1 dimensions, these difficulties can be cured by going over to a dual space and an extension of these dynamical symmetries through the construction of a new generator in the Cartan sub-algebra. This provides a canonical interpretation of meta-conformally covariant two-point functions as correlators. Galilei-conformal correlators can be obtained from meta-conformal invariance through a simple contraction. In contrast, by an analogus construction, Schrödinger-covariant two-point functions are causal response functions. All these two-point functions are bounded at large separations, for sufficiently positive values of the scaling exponents.

Lindblad dynamics of a quantum spherical spin

The coherent quantum dynamics of a single bosonic spin variable, subject to a constraint derived from the quantum spherical model of a ferromagnet, and coupled to an external heat bath, is studied through the Lindblad equation for the reduced density matrix. Closed systems of equations of motion for several quantum observables are derived and solved exactly. The relationship to the single-mode Dicke model from quantum optics is discussed. The analysis of the interplay of the quantum fluctuation and the dissipation and their influence on the relaxation of the time-dependent magnetisation leads to the distinction of qualitatively different regimes of weak and strong quantum couplings. Considering the model's behaviour in an external field as a simple mean-field approximation of the dynamics of a quantum spherical ferromagnet, the magnetic phase diagramme appears to be re-entrant and presents a quantum analogue of well-established classical examples of fluctuation-induced order.

An alternative order-parameter for non-equilibrium generalized spin models on honeycomb lattices

An alternative definition for the order-parameter is proposed, for a family of non-equilibrium spin models with up-down symmetry on honeycomb lattices, and which depends on two parameters. In contrast to the usual definition, our proposal takes into account that each site of the lattice can be associated with a local temperature which depends on the local environment of each site. Using the generalised voter motel as a test case, we analyse the phase diagram and the critical exponents in the stationary state and compare the results of the standard order-parameter with the ones following from our new proposal, on the honeycomb lattice. The stationary phase transition is in the Ising universality class. Finite-size corrections are also studied and the Wegner exponent is estimated as $ω=1.06(9)$.

Dynamical symmetries and causality in non-equilibrium phase transitions

Dynamical symmetries are of considerable importance in elucidating the complex behaviour of strongly interacting systems with many degrees of freedom. Paradigmatic examples are cooperative phenomena as they arise in phase transitions, where conformal invariance has led to enormous progress in equilibrium phase transitions, especially in two dimensions. Non-equilibrium phase transitions can arise in much larger portions of the parameter space than equilibrium phase transitions. The state of the art of recent attempts to generalise conformal invariance to a new generic symmetry, taking into account the different scaling behaviour of space and time, will be reviewed. Particular attention will be given to the causality properties as they follow for co-variant $n$-point functions. These are important for the physical identification of n-point functions as responses or correlators.

Antiferromagnetic majority voter model on square and honeycomb lattices

An antiferromagnetic version of the well-known majority voter model on square and honeycomb lattices is proposed. Monte Carlo simulations give evidence for a continuous order-disorder phase transition in the stationary state in both cases. Precise estimates of the critical point are found from the combination of three cumulants, and our results are in good agreement with the reported values of the equivalent ferromagnetic systems. The critical exponents $1/ν$, $γ/ν$ and $β/ν$ were found. Their values indicate that the stationary state of the antiferromagnetic majority voter model belongs to the Ising model universality class.

From conformal invariance towards dynamical symmetries of the collisionless Boltzmann equation

Dynamical symmetries of the collisionless Boltzmann transport equation, or Vlasov equation, but under the influence of an external driving force, are derived from non-standard representations of the $2D$ conformal algebra. In the case without external forces, the symmetry of the conformally invariant transport equation is first generalised by considering the particle momentum as an independent variables. This new conformal representation can be further extended to include an external force. The construction and possible physical applications are outlined.

Quantum phase transition in the spin-anisotropic quantum spherical model

Motivated by an analogy with the spin anisotropies in the quantum XY chain and its reformulation in terms of spin-less Majorana fermions, its bosonic analogue, the spin-anisotropic quantum spherical model, is introduced. The exact solution of the model permits to analyse the influence of the spin-anisotropy on the phase diagram and the universality of the critical behaviour in a new way, since the interactions of the quantum spins and their conjugate momenta create new effects. At zero temperature, a quantum critical line is found, which is in the same universality class as the thermal phase transition in the classical spherical model in $d+1$ dimensions. The location of this quantum critical line shows a re-entrant quantum phase transition for dimensions $1<d\lesssim 2.065$.

Spherical model of growing interfaces

Building on an analogy between the ageing behaviour of magnetic systems and growing interfaces, the Arcetri model, a new exactly solvable model for growing interfaces is introduced, which shares many properties with the kinetic spherical model. The long-time behaviour of the interface width and of the two-time correlators and responses is analysed. For all dimensions $d\ne 2$, universal characteristics distinguish the Arcetri model from the Edwards-Wilkinson model, although for $d>2$ all stationary and non-equilibrium exponents are the same. For $d=1$ dimensions, the Arcetri model is equivalent to the $p=2$ spherical spin glass. For $2<d<4$ dimensions, its relaxation properties are related to the ones of a particle-reaction model, namely a bosonic variant of the diffusive pair-contact process. The global persistence exponent is also derived.

Causality from dynamical symmetry: an example from local scale-invariance

Physical ageing phenomena far from equilibrium naturally lead to dynamical scaling. It has been proposed to consider the consequences of an extension to a larger Lie algebra of local scale-transformation. The best-tested applications of this are explicitly computed co-variant two-point functions which have been compared to non-equilibrium response functions in a large variety of statistical mechanics models. It is shown that the extension of the Schrödinger Lie algebra $\mathfrak{sch}(1)$ to a maximal parabolic sub-algebra, when combined with a dualisation approach, is sufficient to derive the causality condition required for the interpretation of a two-point function as a physical response function. The proof is presented for the recent logarithmic extension of the differential operator representation of the Schrödinger algebra.

Boundary crossover in non-equilibrium growth processes

The growth of stochastic interfaces in the vicinity of a boundary and the non-trivial crossover towards the behaviour deep in the bulk is analysed. The causal interactions of the interface with the boundary lead to a roughness larger near to the boundary than deep in the bulk. This is exemplified in the semi-infinite Edwards-Wilkinson model in one dimension, both from its exact solution and numerical simulations, as well as from simulations on the semi-infinite one-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang model. The non-stationary scaling of interface heights and widths is analyzed and a universal scaling form for the local height profile is proposed.

On non-local representations of the ageing algebra in $d\geq 1$ dimensions

Non-local representations of the ageing algebra for generic dynamical exponents $z$ and for any space dimension $d\geq 1$ are constructed. The mechanism for the closure of the Lie algebra is explained. The Lie algebra generators contain higher-order differential operators or the Riesz fractional derivative. Co-variant two-time response functions are derived. An application to phase-separation in the conserved spherical model is described.

Physical ageing and new representations of some Lie algebras of local scale-invariance

Indecomposable but reducible representations of several Lie algebras of local scale-transformations, including the Schrödinger and conformal Galilean algebras, and some of their applications in physical ageing are reviewed. The physical requirement of the decay of co-variant two-point functions for large distances is related to analyticity properties in the coordinates dual to the physical masses or rapidities.

Logarithmic Exotic Conformal Galilean Algebras

Logarithmic representations of the conformal Galilean algebra (CGA) and the Exotic Conformal Galilean algebra ({\sc ecga}) are constructed. This can be achieved by non-decomposable representations of the scaling dimensions or the rapidity indices, specific to conformal galilean algebras. Logarithmic representations of the non-exotic CGA lead to the expected constraints on scaling dimensions and rapidities and also on the logarithmic contributions in the co-variant two-point functions. On the other hand, the {\sc ecga} admits several distinct situations which are distinguished by different sets of constraints and distinct scaling forms of the two-point functions. Two distinct realisations for the spatial rotations are identified as well. The first example of a reducible, but non-decomposable representation, without logarithmic terms in the two-point function is given.
