Statistical mechanics of the coagulation-diffusion process with a stochastic reset

The effects of a stochastic reset, to its initial configuration, is studied in the exactly solvable one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process. A finite resetting rate leads to a modified non-equilibrium stationary state. If in addition the input of particles at a fixed given rate is admitted, a competition between the resetting and the input rates leads to a non-trivial behaviour of the particle-density in the stationary state. From the exact inter-particle probability distribution, a simple physical picture emerges: the reset mainly changes the behaviour at larger distance scales, while at smaller length scales, the non-trivial correlation of the model without a reset dominates.

Non-local representations of the ageing algebra in higher dimensions

The ageing Lie algebra age(d) and especially its local representations for a dynamical exponent z=2 has played an important rôle in the description of systems undergoing simple ageing, after a quench from a disordered state to the low-temperature phase. Here, the construction of representations of age(d) for generic values of z is described for any space dimension d>1, generalising upon earlier results for d=1. The mechanism for the closure of the Lie algebra is explained. The Lie algebra generators contain higher-order differential operators or the Riesz fractional derivative. Co-variant two-time response functions are derived. Some simple applications to exactly solvable models of phase separation or interface growth with conserved dynamics are discussed.

Logarithmic correlators or responses in non-relativistic analogues of conformal invariance

Recent developments on emergence of logarithmic terms in correlators or response functions of models which exhibit dynamical symmetries analogous to conformal invariance in not necessarily relativistic systems are reviewed. The main examples of these are logarithmic Schrödinger-invariance and logarithmic conformal Galilean invariance. Some applications of these ideas to statistical physics are described.

On logarithmic extensions of local scale-invariance

Ageing phenomena far from equilibrium naturally present dynamical scaling and in many situations this may generalised to local scale-invariance. Generically, the absence of time-translation-invariance implies that each scaling operator is characterised by two independent scaling dimensions. Building on analogies with logarithmic conformal invariance and logarithmic Schrödinger-invariance, this work proposes a logarithmic extension of local scale-invariance, without time-translation-invariance. Carrying this out requires in general to replace both scaling dimensions of each scaling operator by Jordan cells. Co-variant two-point functions are derived for the most simple case of a two-dimensional logarithmic extension. Their form is compared to simulational data for autoresponse functions in several universality classes of non-equilibrium ageing phenomena.

The Poincare algebra in the context of ageing systems: Lie structure, representations, Appell systems and coherent states

By introducing an unconventional realization of the Poincare algebra alt_1 of special relativity as conformal transformations, we show how it may occur as a dynamical symmetry algebra for ageing systems in non-equilibrium statistical physics and give some applications, such as the computation of two-time correlators. We also discuss infinite-dimensional extensions of alt_1 in this setting. Finally, we construct canonical Appell systems, coherent states and Leibniz functions for alt_1 as a tool for bosonic quantization.

Exact correlation functions in particle-reaction models with immobile particles

Exact results on particle-densities as well as correlators in two models of immobile particles, containing either a single species or else two distinct species, are derived. The models evolve following a descent dynamics through pair-annihilation where each particle interacts at most once throughout its entire history. The resulting large number of stationary states leads to a non-vanishing configurational entropy. Our results are established for arbitrary initial conditions and are derived via a generating-function method. The single-species model is the dual of the 1D zero-temperature kinetic Ising model with Kimball-Deker-Haake dynamics. In this way, both infinite and semi-infinite chains and also the Bethe lattice can be analysed. The relationship with the random sequential adsorption of dimers and weakly tapped granular materials is discussed.

Phenomenology of ageing in the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation

We study ageing during surface growth processes described by the one-dimensional Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation. Starting from a flat initial state, the systems undergo simple ageing in both correlators and linear responses and its dynamical scaling is characterised by the ageing exponents a=-1/3, b=-2/3, lambda_C=lambda_R=1 and z=3/2. The form of the autoresponse scaling function is well described by the recently constructed logarithmic extension of local scale-invariance.

Exact Correlation Function at the Lifshitz Points of the Spherical Model

The spin-spin correlation function of the spherical model being precisely at an anisotropic Lifshitz point of arbitrary order is calculated exactly. The results are in agreement with scaling. The scaling function is shown to be universal. The direction-dependent long-range correlations may change from ferromagnetic to antiferromagnetic behaviour and back as the dimension is varied. The form of the scaling function is compared to predictions following from local scale invariance for strongly anisotropic critical systems.

Exact two-time correlation and response functions in the one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process by the empty-interval-particle method

The one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process describes the strongly fluctuating dynamics of particles, freely hopping between the nearest-neighbour sites of a chain such that one of them disappears with probability 1 if two particles meet. The exact two-time correlation and response function in the one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process are derived from the empty-interval-particle method. The main quantity is the conditional probability of finding an empty interval of n consecutive sites, if at distance d a site is occupied by a particle. Closed equations of motion are derived such that the probabilities needed for the calculation of correlators and responses, respectively, are distinguished by different initial and boundary conditions. In this way, the dynamical scaling of these two-time observables is analysed in the longtime ageing regime. A new generalised fluctuation-dissipation ratio with an universal and finite limit is proposed.

On non-local representations of the ageing algebra

The ageing algebra is a local dynamical symmetry of many ageing systems, far from equilibrium, and with a dynamical exponent z=2. Here, new representations for an integer dynamical exponent z=n are constructed, which act non-locally on the physical scaling operators. The new mathematical mechanism which makes the infinitesimal generators of the ageing algebra dynamical symmetries, is explicitly discussed for a n-dependent family of linear equations of motion for the order-parameter. Finite transformations are derived through the exponentiation of the infinitesimal generators and it is proposed to interpret them in terms of the transformation of distributions of spatio-temporal coordinates. The two-point functions which transform co-variantly under the new representations are computed, which quite distinct forms for n even and n odd. Depending on the sign of the dimensionful mass parameter, the two-point scaling functions either decay monotonously or in an oscillatory way towards zero.

Exact correlations in the one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process by the empty-interval method

The long-time dynamics of reaction-diffusion processes in low dimensions is dominated by fluctuation effects. The one-dimensional coagulation-diffusion process describes the kinetics of particles which freely hop between the sites of a chain and where upon encounter of two particles, one of them disappears with probability one. The empty-interval method has, since a long time, been a convenient tool for the exact calculation of time-dependent particle densities in this model. We generalise the empty-interval method by considering the probability distributions of two simultaneous empty intervals at a given distance. While the equations of motion of these probabilities reduce for the coagulation-diffusion process to a simple diffusion equation in the continuum limit, consistency with the single-interval distribution introduces several non-trivial boundary conditions which are solved for the first time for arbitrary initial configurations. In this way, exact space-time-dependent correlation functions can be directly obtained and their dynamic scaling behaviour is analysed for large classes of initial conditions.

The exotic conformal Galilei algebra and nonlinear partial differential equations

The conformal Galilei algebra (CGA) and the exotic conformal Galilei algebra (ECGA) are applied to construct partial differential equations (PDEs) and systems of PDEs, which admit these algebras. We show that there are no single second-order PDEs invariant under the CGA but systems of PDEs can admit this algebra. Moreover, a wide class of nonlinear PDEs exists, which are conditionally invariant under CGA. It is further shown that there are systems of non-linear PDEs admitting ECGA with the realisation obtained very recently in [D. Martelli and Y. Tachikawa, arXiv:0903.5184v2 [hep-th] (2009)]. Moreover, wide classes of non-linear systems, invariant under two different 10-dimensional subalgebras of ECGA are explicitly constructed and an example with possible physical interpretation is presented.

Non-markovian global persistence in phase-ordering kinetics

The persistence probability P_g(t) of the global order-parameter of a simple ferromagnet undergoing phase-ordering kinetics after a quench from a fully disordered state to below the critical temperature, T<T_c, is analysed. It is argued that the persistence probability decays algebraically with time in the entire low-temperature phase. For Markov processes, the associated global persistence exponent theta_g = (2 lambda_C -d)/(2z) is related to the autocorrelation exponent lambda_C. This relationship is confirmed for phase-ordering in the exactly solved 1D Ising model and the d-dimensional spherical model. For the 2D Glauber-Ising model, theta_g=0.063(2) is found which indicates that the dynamics of the global order-parameter is described by a non-markovian process.

Ageing in bosonic particle-reaction models with long-range transport

Ageing in systems without detailed balance is studied in bosonic contact and pair-contact processes with Levy diffusion. In the ageing regime, the dynamical scaling of the two-time correlation function and two-time response function is found and analysed. Exact results for non-equilibrium exponents and scaling functions are derived. The behaviour of the fluctuation-dissipation ratio is analysed. A passage time from the quasi-stationary regime to the ageing regime is defined, in qualitative agreement with kinetic spherical models and p-spin spherical glasses.

Superuniversality in phase-ordering disordered ferromagnets

The phase-ordering kinetics of the ferromagnetic two-dimensional Ising model with uniform bond disorder is investigated by intensive Monte Carlo simulations. Simple ageing behaviour is observed in the single-time correlator and the two-time responses and correlators. The dynamical exponent z and the autocorrelation exponent lambda_C only depend on the ratio eps/T, where eps describes the width of the distribution of the disorder, whereas a more complicated behaviour is found for the non-equilibrium exponent a of the two-time response as well as for the autoresponse exponent lambda_R. The scaling functions are observed to depend only on the dimensionless ratio eps/T. If the length scales are measured in terms of the time-dependent domain size L(t), the form of the scaling functions is in general independent of both eps and T. Conditions limiting the validity of this `superuniversality' are discussed.

Kinetics of a non-glauberian Ising model: global observables and exact results

We analyse the spin-flip dynamics in kinetic Ising chains with Kimball-Deker-Haake (KDH) transition rates, and evaluate exactly the evolution of global quantities like magnetisation and its fluctuations, and the two-time susceptibilities and correlations of the global spin and the global three-spin. Information on the ageing behaviour after a quench to zero temperature is extracted.

Absence of logarithmic scaling in the ageing behaviour of the 4D spherical model

The non-equilibrium dynamics of the kinetic spherical model, quenched to T<=T_c, with a non-conserved order-parameter is studied at its upper critical dimension d=d*=4. In the scaling limit where both the waiting time s and the observation time t are large and the ratio y=t/s>1 is fixed, the scaling functions of the two-time autocorrelation and autoresponse functions do not contain any logarithmic correction factors and the typical size of correlated domains scales for large times as L(t) ~ t^0.5 .
