Phase-ordering kinetics of two-dimensional disordered Ising models

The phase-ordering kinetics of the ferromagnetic two-dimensional Ising model with uniform disorder is investigated by intensive Monte Carlo simulations. Taking into account finite-time corrections to scaling, simple ageing behaviour is observed in the two-time responses and correlators. The dynamical exponent z and the form of the scaling functions only depend on the ratio eps/T, where eps describes the width of the distribution of the disorder. The agreement of the predictions of local scale-invariance generalised to z<> 2 for the two-time scaling functions of response and correlations with the numerical data provides a direct test of generalised Galilei-invariance.

Kinetics of the long-range spherical model

The kinetic spherical model with long-range interactions is studied after a quench to $T < T_c$ or to $T = T_c$. For the two-time response and correlation functions of the order-parameter as well as for composite fields such as the energy density, the ageing exponents and the corresponding scaling functions are derived. The results are compared to the predictions which follow from local scale-invariance.

Local scale-invariance in disordered systems

Dynamical scaling and ageing in disordered systems far from equilibrium is reviewed. Particular attention is devoted to the question to what extent a recently introduced generalization of dynamical scaling to local scale-invariance can describe data for either non-glassy systems quenched to below $T_c$ or else for spin glasses at criticality. The dependence of the scaling behaviour on the distribution of the random couplings is discussed. It is shown that finite-time corrections to scaling can become quite sizable in these systems. Numerically determined ageing quantities are confronted with available experimental results.

Autocorrelation functions in phase-ordering kinetics from local scale-invariance

The explicit calculation of the scaling form of the two-time autocorrelation function in phase-ordering kinetics and in those cases of non-equilibrium critical dynamics where the dynamical exponent z=2 through the extension of dynamical scaling to local scale-invariance is reviewed. Conceptually, this mainly requires an extension from the usually considered d-dimensional ageing or Schrödinger algebras to a new kind of representation of the conformal algebra in d+2 dimensions. Explicit tests in several exactly solved models of simple magnets and through simulations in the 2D Ising and q-states Potts models (q=2,3,8) quenched to T<T_c are presented and the extension to systems with non-equilibrium steady-states is discussed through two exactly solvable models as well. In the context of surface growth models, possible generalizations for a dynamical exponent z=4 and beyond are discussed.

Kinetics of phase-separation in the critical spherical model and local scale-invariance

The scaling forms of the space- and time-dependent two-time correlation and response functions are calculated for the kinetic spherical model with a conserved order-parameter and quenched to its critical point from a completely disordered initial state. The stochastic Langevin equation can be split into a noise part and into a deterministic part which has local scale-transformations with a dynamical exponent z=4 as a dynamical symmetry. An exact reduction formula allows to express any physical average in terms of averages calculable from the deterministic part alone. The exact spherical model results are shown to agree with these predictions of local scale-invariance. The results also include kinetic growth with mass conservation as described by the Mullins-Herring equation.

Ageing, dynamical scaling and its extensions in many-particle systems without detailed balance

Recent studies on the phenomenology of ageing in certain many-particle systems which are at a critical point of their non-equilibrium steady-states, are reviewed. Examples include the contact process, the parity-conserving branching-annihilating random walk, two exactly solvable particle-reaction models and kinetic growth models. While the generic scaling descriptions known from magnetic system can be taken over, some of the scaling relations between the ageing exponents are no longer valid. In particular, there is no obvious generalization of the universal limit fluctuation-dissipation ratio. The form of the scaling function of the two-time response function is compared with the prediction of the theory of local scale-invariance.

Ageing in disordered magnets and local scale-invariance

The ageing of the bond-disordered two-dimensional Ising model quenched to below its critical point is studied through the two-time autocorrelator and thermoremanent magnetization (TRM). The corresponding ageing exponents are determined. The form of the scaling function of the TRM is well described by the theory of local scale-invariance.

On the identification of quasiprimary scaling operators in local scale-invariance

The relationship between physical observables defined in lattice models and the associated (quasi-)primary scaling operators of the underlying field-theory is revisited. In the context of local scale-invariance, we argue that this relationship is only defined up to a time-dependent amplitude and derive the corresponding generalizations of predictions for two-time response and correlation functions. Applications to non-equilibrium critical dynamics of several systems, with a fully disordered initial state and vanishing initial magnetization, including the Glauber-Ising model, the Frederikson-Andersen model and the Ising spin glass are discussed. The critical contact process and the parity-conserving non-equilibrium kinetic Ising model are also considered.

Local scale-invariances in the bosonic contact and pair-contact processes

Local scale-invariance for ageing systems without detailed balance is tested through studying the dynamical symmetries of the critical bosonic contact process and the critical bosonic pair-contact process.Their field-theoretical actions can be split into a Schrödinger-invariant term and a pure noise term. It is shown that the two-time response and correlation functions are reducible to certain multipoint response functions which depend only on the Schrödinger-invariant part of the action. For the bosonic contact process, the representation of the Schrödinger group can be derived from the free diffusion equation, whereas for the bosonic pair-contact process, a new representation of the Schrödinger group related to a non-linear Schrödinger equation with dimensionful couplings is constructed. The resulting predictions of local scale-invariance for the two-time responses and correlators are completely consistent with the exactly-known results in both models.

Supersymmetric extensions of Schrödinger-invariance

The set of dynamic symmetries of the scalar free Schrödinger equation in d space dimensions gives a realization of the Schrödinger algebra that may be extended into a representation of the conformal algebra in d+2 dimensions, which yields the set of dynamic symmetries of the same equation where the mass is not viewed as a constant, but as an additional coordinate. An analogous construction also holds for the spin-1/2 Lévy-Leblond equation. A N=2 supersymmetric extension of these equations leads, respectively, to a `super-Schrödinger' model and to the (3|2)-supersymmetric model. Their dynamic supersymmetries form the Lie superalgebras osp(2|2) *_s sh(2|2) and osp(2|4), respectively. The Schrödinger algebra and its supersymmetric counterparts are found to be the largest finite-dimensional Lie subalgebras of a family of infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebras that are systematically constructed in a Poisson algebra setting, including the Schrödinger-Neveu-Schwarz algebra sns^(N) with N supercharges. Covariant two-point functions of quasiprimary superfields are calculated for several subalgebras of osp(2|4). If one includes both N=2 supercharges and time-inversions, then the sum of the scaling dimensions is restricted to a finite set of possible values.

Lie symmetries of semi-linear Schrödinger equations and applications

Conditional Lie symmetries of semi-linear 1D Schrödinger and diffusion equations are studied if the mass (or the diffusion constant) is considered as an additional variable. In this way, dynamical symmetries of semi-linear Schrödinger equations become related to the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of a three-dimensional conformal Lie algebra conf_3. The corresponding representations of the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of conf_3 are classified and the complete list of conditionally invariant semi-linear Schrödinger equations is obtained. Applications to the phase-ordering kinetics of simple magnets and to simple particle-reaction models are briefly discussed.

Ageing without detailed balance in the bosonic contact and pair-contact processes: exact results

Ageing in systems without detailed balance is studied in the exactly solvable bosonic contact process and the critical bosonic pair-contact process. The two-time correlation function and the two-time response function are explicitly found. In the ageing regime, the dynamical scaling of these is analyzed and exact results for the ageing exponents and the scaling functions are derived. For the critical bosonic pair-contact process the autocorrelation and autoresponse exponents agree but the ageing exponents $a$ and $b$ are shown to be distinct.

Reply to "Comment on 'Scaling of the linear response in simple ageing systems without disorder' "

The value of the non-equilibrium exponent $a$ is measured in the two-dimensional (2D) Ising model quenched to below criticality from the dynamical scaling of the zero-field-cooled and the intermediate susceptibility. Our results fully reconfirm the expected value $a=1/2$ but are inconsistent with the value $a=1/4$, advocated by Corberi, Lippiello and Zannetti (cond-mat/0506139).

Dynamical symmetries of semi-linear Schrödinger and diffusion equations

Conditional and Lie symmetries of semi-linear 1D Schrödinger and diffusion equations are studied if the mass (or the diffusion constant) is considered as an additional variable. In this way, dynamical symmetries of semi-linear Schrödinger equations become related to the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of a three-dimensional conformal Lie algebra conf_3. We consider non-hermitian representations and also include a dimensionful coupling constant of the non-linearity. The corresponding representations of the parabolic and almost-parabolic subalgebras of conf_3 are classified and the complete list of conditionally invariant semi-linear Schrödinger equations is obtained. Possible applications to the dynamical scaling behaviour of phase-ordering kinetics are discussed.

On the scaling and ageing behaviour of the alternating susceptibility in spin glasses and local scale-invariance

The frequency-dependent scaling of the dispersive and dissipative parts of the alternating susceptibility is studied for spin glasses at criticality. An extension of the usual $ωt$-scaling is proposed. Simulational data from the three-dimensional Ising spin glass agree with this new scaling form and moreover reproduce well the scaling functions explicitly calculated for systems satisfying local scale-invariance. There is also a qualitative agreement with existing experimental data.

Ageing and dynamical scaling in the critical Ising spin glass

The non-equilibrium ageing behaviour of the 3D and 4D critical Ising spin glass is studied for both binary and gaussian disorder. The same phenomenology of the time-dependent scaling as in non-disordered magnets is found but the non-equilibrium exponents and the universal limit fluctuation-dissipation ratio depend on the distribution of the coupling constants.
