Tensor products of representations up to homotopy

We study the construction of tensor products of representations up to homotopy, which are the A-infinity version of ordinary representations. We provide formulas for the construction of tensor products of representations up to homotopy and of morphisms between them, and show that these formulas give the homotopy category a monoidal structure which is uniquely defined up to equivalence.

Stability of symplectic leaves

We find computable criteria for stability of symplectic leaves of Poisson manifolds. Using Poisson geometry as an inspiration, we also give a general criterion for stability of leaves of Lie algebroids, including singular ones. This not only extends but also provides a new approach (and proofs) to the classical stability results for foliations and group actions.

Representations up to homotopy and Bott's spectral sequence for Lie groupoids

This belongs to a series of papers devoted to the study of the cohomology of classifying spaces of Lie groupoids. Our aim here is to introduce and study the notion of representation up to homotopy of Lie groupoids, the resulting derived category, and to show that the adjoint representation is well defined as a representation up to homotopy. As an application, we extend Bott's spectral sequence converging to the cohomology of classifying spaces from Lie groups to Lie groupoids.

A geometric approach to Conn's linearization theorem

We give a soft geometric proof of the classical result due to Conn stating that a Poisson structure is linearizable around a singular point (zero) at which the isotropy Lie algebra is compact and semisimple.

Dirac geometry, quasi-Poisson actions and D/G-valued moment maps

We study Dirac structures associated with Manin pairs (\d,\g) and give a Dirac geometric approach to Hamiltonian spaces with D/G-valued moment maps, originally introduced by Alekseev and Kosmann-Schwarzbach in terms of quasi-Poisson structures. We explain how these two distinct frameworks are related to each other, proving that they lead to isomorphic categories of Hamiltonian spaces. We stress the connection between the viewpoint of Dirac geometry and equivariant differential forms. The paper discusses various examples, including q-Hamiltonian spaces and Poisson-Lie group actions, explaining how presymplectic groupoids are related to the notion of "double" in each context.

Generalized complex structures and Lie brackets

We look at generalized complex structures from the point of view of Poisson and Dirac geometry and we remark that the puzzling equations underlying the notion of generalized complex structure have miraculously simple meaning when passing to Lie algebroids/groupoids.

Dirac structures, moment maps and quasi-Poisson manifolds

We extend the correspondence between Poisson maps and actions of symplectic groupoids, which generalizes the one between momentum maps and hamiltonian actions, to the realm of Dirac geometry. As an example, we show how hamiltonian quasi-Poisson manifolds fit into this framework by constructing an ``inversion'' procedure relating quasi-Poisson bivectors to twisted Dirac structures.

Birkhoff Interpolation with Rectangular Sets of Nodes

Although it is important both in theory as well as in applications, a theory of Birkhoff interpolation with main emphasis on the shape of the set of nodes is still missing. Although we will consider various shapes (e.g. we find all the shapes for which the associated Lagrange problem has unique solution), we concentrate on one of the simplest shapes:``rectangular'' (also called "cartesian grids"). The ultimate goal is to obtain a geometrical understanding of the solvability. We partially achieve this by describing several regularity criteria, which we illustrate by many examples. At the end we discuss several conjectures which, we think, are important in understanding the behaviour of Birkhoff interpolation schemes in higer dimensions. Although we prove these conjectures in many unrelated cases, we believe that a ``complete proof'' requires new ideas which go beyond the usual methods in interpolation theory (and may reach areas such as algebraic geometry or algebraic topology).

Prequantization and Lie brackets

We start by describing the relationship between the classical prequantization condition and the integrability of a certain Lie algebroid associated to the problem and use this to give a global construction of the prequantizing bundle in terms of path spaces (Introduction), then we rephrase the problem in terms of groupoids (second section), and then we study the more general problem of prequantizing groupoids endowed with a multiplicative 2-forms (the rest of the paper).

Integrability of Lie brackets

In this paper we present the solution to a longstanding problem of differential geometry: Lie's third theorem for Lie algebroids. We show that the integrability problem is controlled by two computable obstructions. As applications we derive, explain and improve the known integrability results, we establish integrability by local Lie groupoids, we clarify the smoothness of the Poisson sigma-model for Poisson manifolds, and we describe other geometrical applications.

Integrability of Poisson brackets

We show that various notions of integrability for Poisson brackets are all equivalent, and we give the precise obstructions to integrating Poisson manifolds. We describe the integration as a symplectic quotient, in the spirit of the Poisson sigma-model of Cattaneo and Felder. For regular Poisson manifolds we express the obstructions in terms of variations of symplectic areas. As an application of these results, we show that a Poisson manifold admits a complete symplectic realization if, and only if, it is integrable. We discuss also the integration of submanifolds and Morita equivalence of Poisson manifolds.

Differentiable and algebroid cohomology, van Est isomorphisms, and characteristic classes

In the first section we discuss Morita invariance of differentiable/algebroid cohomology. In the second section we present an extension of the van Est isomorphism to groupoids. This immediately implies a version of Haefliger's conjecture for differentiable cohomology. As a first application we clarify the connection between differentiable and algebroid cohomology (proved in degree 1, and conjectured in degree 2 by Weinstein-Xu). As a second application we extend van Est's argument for the integrability of Lie algebras. Applied to Poisson manifolds, this immediately gives (a slight improvement of) Hector-Dazord's integrability criterion. In the third section we describe the relevant characteristic classes of representations, living in algebroid cohomology, as well as their relation to the van Est map. This extends Evens-Lu-Weinstein's characteristic class $θ_{L}$ (hence, in particular, the modular class of Poisson manifolds), and also the classical characteristic classes of flat vector bundles. In the last section we describe some applications to Poisson geometry (e.g. we clarify the Morita invariance of Poisson cohomology, and of the modular class).

Chern characters via connections up to homotopy

The aim of this note is to point out that Chern characters can be computed using curvatures o ``super-connections up to homotopy'. We also present an application to the vanishing theorem for Lie algebroids which is at the origin of new secondary classes of algebroids (Fernandes), hence, in particular, of Poisson manifolds.

Connections up to homotopy and characteristic classes

In this note we clarify the relevance of ``connections up to homotopy'' to the theory of characteristic classes. We have already remarked \cite{Crai} that such connections up to homotopy can be used to compute the classical Chern characters. Here we present a slightly different argument for this, and then proceed with the discussion of the flat (secondary) characteristic classes. As an application, we clarify the relation between the two different approaches to characteristic classes of algebroids (and of Poisson manifolds in particular): we explain that the intrinsic characteristic classes are precisely the secondary classes of the adjoint representation.

Cech-De Rham theory for leaf spaces of foliations

The purpose of this paper is to present a ``Cech-De Rham'' model for the cohomology of leaf spaces. This model lends itself to the construction of characteristic classes (in the cohomology of classifying spaces) by explicit geometrical constructions which are immediate extensions of the standard constructions for manifolds. In particular we rediscover (and explain) the Thurston formula and the Bott formulas for cocycles on diffeomorphism groups. We also use the Cech-De Rham model to explicitly describe the relation between the cohomology of the classifying space, the basic cohomology, and the foliated cohomology of foliations.
