SASI: Leveraging Sub-Action Semantics for Robust Early Action Recognition in Human-Robot Interaction

Understanding human actions is critical for advancing behavior analysis in human-robot interaction. Particularly in tasks that demand quick and proactive feedback, robots must recognize human actions as early as possible from incomplete observations. \textit{Sub-actions} offer the semantic and hierarchical cues needed for this, since human actions are inherently structured and can be decomposed into smaller, meaningful units. However, conventional approaches focus primarily on holistic actions and often overlook the rich semantic structure embedded in sub-actions, making them poorly suited for early recognition. To address this gap, we introduce SASI (Sub-Action Semantics Integrated cross-modal fusion), a novel framework that integrates existing graph convolution networks to fuse spatiotemporal features with sub-action semantics. SASI exploits a segmentation model with a traditional skeleton-based graph convolution network, capturing both fine-grained sub-action semantics and overall spatial context, while operating in real-time at 29 Hz. Experiments on BABEL, a skeleton-based dataset with frame-level annotations, demonstrate that our method improves recognition accuracy over conventional approaches, with additional gains expected as the quality of sub-action segmentation improves. Notably, SASI also achieves superior performance in understanding partial action sequences, revealing its capability for early recognition, which is essential for proactive and seamless Human-Robot Interaction (HRI). Virtual Inverse Perspective Mapping for Simultaneous Pose and Motion Estimation

We propose an automatic method for pose and motion estimation against a ground surface for a ground-moving robot-mounted monocular camera. The framework adopts a semi-dense approach that benefits from both a feature-based method and an image-registration-based method by setting multiple patches in the image for displacement computation through a highly accurate image-registration technique. To improve accuracy, we introduce virtual inverse perspective mapping (IPM) in the refinement step to eliminate the perspective effect on image registration. The pose and motion are jointly and robustly estimated by a formulation of geometric bundle adjustment via virtual IPM. Unlike conventional visual odometry methods, the proposed method is free from cumulative error because it directly estimates pose and motion against the ground by taking advantage of a camera configuration mounted on a ground-moving robot where the camera's vertical motion is ignorable compared to its height within the frame interval and the nearby ground surface is approximately flat. We conducted experiments in which the relative mean error of the pitch and roll angles was approximately 1.0 degrees and the absolute mean error of the travel distance was 0.3 mm, even under camera shaking within a short period.

Enhanced anisotropic spin fluctuations below tetragonal-to-orthorhombic transition in LaFeAs(O_{1-x}F_x) probed by ^{75}As and ^{139}La NMR

$^{75}$As and $^{139}$La NMR results of LaFeAs(O$_{1-x}$F$_x$) ($x$=0, 0.025, and 0.04) were reported. Upon F-doping, the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural phase transition temperature $T_S$, antiferromagnetic transition temperature $T_N$ and internal magnetic field $μ_0H_{\rm int}$ are gradually reduced for $x<0.04$. However, at $x=0.04$, $T_N$ is abruptly suppressed to be 30 K along with a tiny $μ_0H_{\rm int}$, which is distinct from the continuous disappearance of the ordered phases in the Ba122 systems of Ba(Fe,Co)$_2$As$_2$ and BaFe$_2$(As,P)$_2$. The anisotropy of the spin-lattice relaxation rate $T_1^{-1}$, $(T_1)^{-1}_{H\parallel ab}/(T_1)^{-1}_{H\parallel c}$, in the paramagnetic phase of $x = 0$ and 0.025 is constant ($\sim 1.5$), but increases abruptly below $T_S$ due to the enhancement of $(T_1)^{-1}_{H\parallel ab}$ by the slowing down of magnetic fluctuations. This indicates that the tetragonal-to-orthorhombic structural distortion enhances the anisotropy in the spin space via magnetoelastic coupling and/or spin-orbit interaction.

Coexistence of light and heavy carriers associated with superconductivity and anti-ferromagnetism in CeNi0.8Bi2 with a Bi square net

We found that the ZrCuSiAs-type crystal CeNi0.8Bi2 with a layered structure composed of alternate stacking of [CeNixBi(1)]δ+ and Bi(2)δ- exhibits a superconductive transition at ~4 K, which was confirmed by zero resistance and the Meissner effect (shielding volume faction ~100% at 2 K). Heat capacity measurements revealed that the electron mass at the normal state (>5 K) is heavy (γ = 0.4 J mol-1 K-2) and a peak responsible for the anti-ferromagnetic ordering of Ce3+ 4f1 at ~5 K. These results indicate that there are two types of carriers with notable different masses, i.e., a light electron responsible for superconductivity and a heavy electron interacting with the Ce 4f electron. This observation suggests that 6p electrons of Bi(2) forming the square net and electrons in CeNixBi(1) layers primarily correspond to light and heavy electrons, respectively.

Stripe antiferromagnetic correlations in LaFeAsO1-xFx probed by 75As NMR

The anisotropy of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_{1}$ of $^{75}$As was investigated in the iron-based superconductor LaFeAs(O$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$) ($x = 0.07, 0.11$ and 0.14) as well as LaFeAsO. While the temperature dependence of the normal-state $1/T_1T$ in the superconducting (SC) $x = 0.07$ is different from that in the SC $x = 0.11$, their anisotropy of $1/T_1$, $R \equiv (1/T_{1})_{H \parallel ab}/(1/T_{1})_{H \parallel c}$ in the normal state is almost the same ($\simeq$ 1.5). The observed anisotropy is ascribable to the presence of the local stripe correlations with $Q = (π, 0)$ or $(0, π)$. In contrast, $1/T_1$ is isotropic and $R$ is approximately 1 in the overdoped $x = 0.14$ sample, where superconductivity is almost suppressed. These results suggest that the presence of the local stripe correlations originating from the nesting between hole and electron Fermi surfaces is linked to high-$T_c$ superconductivity in iron pnictides.

Electronic and Magnetic Phase Diagram of a Superconductor, SmFeAsO1-xFx

A crystallographic and magnetic phase diagram of SmFeAsO1-xFx is determined as a function of x in terms of temperature based on electrical transport and magnetization, synchrotron powder x-ray diffraction, 57Fe Mossbauer spectra (MS), and 149Sm nuclear resonant forward scattering (NRFS) measurements. MS revealed that the magnetic moments of Fe were aligned antiferromagnetically at ~144 K (TN(Fe)). The magnetic moment of Fe (MFe) is estimated to be 0.34 myuB/Fe at 4.2 K for undoped SmFeAsO; MFe is quenched in superconducting F-doped SmFeAsO. 149Sm NRFS spectra revealed that the magnetic moments of Sm start to order antiferromagnetically at 5.6 K (undoped) and 4.4 K (TN(Sm)) (x = 0.069). Results clearly indicate that the antiferromagnetic Sm sublattice coexists with the superconducting phase in SmFeAsO1-xFx below TN(Sm), while antiferromagnetic Fe sublattice does not coexist with the superconducting phase.

Two-Dimensional Spin Dynamics in the Itinerant Ferromagnet LaCoPO Revealed by Magnetization and $^{31}$P-NMR Measurements

We have performed magnetization and $^{31}$P-NMR measurements on the itinerant ferromagnet LaCoPO (Curie temperature $T_{\rm Curie}\sim 44$ K) with a layered structure in order to investigate spin dynamics in the paramagnetic state. The linear scaling between the Knight shift $K$ at the P site and the bulk susceptibility $χ$ above $T_{\rm Curie}$ indicates that the P nucleus is suitable for investigating magnetic properties. The temperature and magnetic field dependences of the nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate divided by the temperature $1/T_1T$ at the P site show characteristic features of itinerant ferromagnets, such as ZrZn$_2$ and Y(Co$_{1-x}$Al$_x$)$_2$. In addition, the relationship between $1/T_1T$ and $χ$ above $T_{\rm Curie}$ suggests that ferromagnetic fluctuations possess a two-dimensional (2D) characteristic. The present data show that LaCoPO is a unique ferromagnet, where the 2D fluctuations anticipated from the crystal structure are predominant down to almost $T_{\rm Curie}$.

Atomically-flat, chemically-stable, superconducting epitaxial thin film of iron-based superconductor, cobalt-doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$

Epitaxial growth of Fe-based superconductors such as Co-doped SrFe$_2$As$_2$ (SrFe$_2$As$_2$:Co) was reported recently, but has still insufficient properties for device application because they have rough surfaces and are decomposed by reactions with water vapor in an ambient atmosphere. This letter reports that epitaxial films of Co-doped BaFe$_2$As$_2$ grown at 700 oC show the onset superconducting transition tempearture of 20 K. The transition is sharper than those observed on the SrFe$_2$As$_2$:Co films, which would originate from their improved crystallinity. These films also have atomically-flat surfaces with steps-and-terraces structures and exhibit chemical stability against exposure to water vapor.

Systematic ^{75}As NMR study of the dependence of low-lying excitations on F doping in the iron oxypnictide LaFeAs(O_{1-x}F_{x})

We report systematic $^{75}$As NMR studies on LaFeAs(O$_{1-x}$F$_{x}$) ($0\le x\le0.14$). At $x=0.04$ near the phase boundary, from resistivity, spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1$, and NMR spectrum measurements, we found weak magnetic order at $T_N\simeq 30$ K. Antiferromagnetic (AFM) fluctuations proved through $1/T_1$ are suppressed significantly with F-doping, and pseudogap behavior without pronounced AFM fluctuations is observed at $x=0.11$ where $T_c$ is maximum. This significant suppression of $1/T_1T$ upon F-doping while $T_c$ remains nearly unchanged suggests that low-energy AFM fluctuations probed with $^{75}$As NMR do not play a crucial role in the superconductivity.

Comparison of crystal structures and effects of Co substitution in a new member of Fe-1111 superconductor family AeFeAsF(Ae = Ca and Sr): a possible candidate for higher Tc superconductor

We refined crystal structures of newly found members of the Fe-1111 superconductor family, CaFe\_{1-x}Co\_{x}AsF and SrFe\_{1-x}Co\_{x}AsF (x = 0, 0.06, 0.12) by powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction analysis. The tetragonal to orthorhombic phase transitions were observed at ~120 K for unsubstituted CaFeAsF and at ~180 K for unsubstituted SrFeAsF, the transition temperatures agreeing with kinks observed in temperature-dependent resistivity curves. Although the transition temperature decreases, the structural phase transitions were observed below 100 K in both samples of x = 0.06, and finally they were suppressed in the doping level of x = 0.12. The refined structures reveal that distortions of the FeAs4 tetrahedron from the regular tetrahedron likely originate from mismatches in atomic radii among the constituent elements. In this system, the enlarged FeAs4 tetrahedron resulting from larger radius of Sr than that of Ca is flattened along a-b plane, whereas the smaller radius of Ca makes the tetrahedron closer to regular one, and their characteristic shapes are further enhanced by Co substitution. These results suggest that the CaFeAsF compound is a promising candidate for higher-Tc superconductor.

Water-induced superconductivity in SrFe2As2

It has been considered that FeAs-based high transition temperature (high-Tc) superconductors need electron or hole doping by aliovalent ion substitution or large off-stoichiometry in order to induce superconductivity. We report that exposure of undoped SrFe2As2 epitaxial thin films to water vapor induces a superconducting transition. These films exhibit a higher onset-Tc (25 K) and larger magnetic field anisotropy than those of cobalt-doped SrFe2As2 epitaxial films, suggesting that the mechanism for the observed superconducting transition differs from that of the aliovalent-ion doped SrFe2As2. The present finding provides a new approach to induce superconductivity with a higher Tc in FeAs-based superconductors.

Effect of 3d Transition Metal Doping on the Superconductivity in Quaternary Fluoroarsenide CaFeAsF

We examined doping effect of 3d transition metal elements (TM: Cr, Mn, Co, Ni, and Cu) at the Fe site of a quaternary fluoroarsenide CaFeAsF, an analogue of 1111-type parent compound LaFeAsO. The anomaly at ~120 K observed in resistivity (rho) vs. temperature (T) plot for the parent compound is suppressed by the doping of each TM element. Furthermore, Co- and Ni-doping (CaFe1-xTMxAsF, TM = Co, Ni) induces superconductivity with a transition temperature maximized at the nominal x = 0.10 for Co (22 K) and at x = 0.05 for Ni (12 K). These optimal doping levels may be understood by considering that Ni2+(3d8) adds double electrons to the FeAs layers compared with Co2+ (3d7). Increased x for Co or Ni breaks the superconductivity while metallic nature drho/dT > 0 is still kept. These observations indicate that Co and Ni work as electron donors. In contrast, neither of Cr, Mn nor Cu-doping induce superconductivity, yielding drho/dT < 0 in the below the rho-T anomaly temperature, indicating that these transition metal ions act as scattering centers. The two different behavior of TM replacing the Fe site is discussed in relation to the changes in the lattice constants with the doping.

Crystallographic Phase Transition and High-Tc Superconductivity in LaFeAsO:F

Undoped LaFeAsO, parent compound of the newly found high-Tc superconductor, exhibits a sharp decrease in the temperature-dependent resistivity at ~160 K. The anomaly can be suppressed by F doping and the superconductivity appears correspondingly, suggesting a close associate of the anomaly with the superconductivity. We examined the crystal structures, magnetic properties and superconductivity of undoped (normal conductor) and 14 at.% F-doped LaFeAsO (Tc = 20 K) by synchrotron X-ray diffraction, DC magnetic measurements, and ab initio calculations to demonstrate that the anomaly is associated with a phase transition from tetragonal (P4/nmm) to orthorhombic (Cmma) phases at ~160 K as well as an antiferromagnetic transition at ~140 K. These transitions can be explained by spin configuration-dependent potential energy surfaces derived from the ab initio calculations. The suppression of the transitions is ascribed to interrelated effects of geometric and electronic structural changes due to doping by F- ions.

Cobalt-substitution-induced Superconductivity in a New Compound with ZrCuSiAs-type Structure, SrFeAsF

We have synthesized a quaternary fluoroarsenide SrFeAsF with the ZrCuSiAs-type structure (P4/nmm, a = 0.3999 and c = 0.8973 nm), which is composed of an alternately stacked (FeAs)- and (SrF)+ layers, analogous to the FeAs-based superconductor LaFeAsO. SrFeAsF shows metallic type conduction with the anomaly at ~180 K. The partial replacement of the Fe with Co suppresses the anomaly and induces the superconductivity, while the maximal Tc (4 K for SrFe0.875Co0.125AsF) is much lower than that of the Co-substituted LaFeAsO. Replacement of (LaO)+ layers with (SrF)+ layers results in a enlargement of the c-axis length (+2.6%). These results suggest the importance of interlayer interaction as a critical Tc-controlling factor in FeAs-based superconductors.

Heteroepitaxial growth and optoelectronic properties of layered iron oxyarsenide, LaFeAsO

Epitaxial thin films of LaFeAsO were fabricated on MgO (001) and mixed-perovskite (La, Sr)(Al, Ta)O3 (001) single-crystal substrates by pulsed laser deposition using a Nd:YAG second harmonic source and a 10 at.% F-doped LaFeAsO disk target. Temperature dependences of the electrical resistivities showed no superconducting transition in the temperature range of 2-300 K, and were similar to those of undoped polycrystalline bulk samples. The transmittance spectrum exhibited a clear peak at ~0.2 eV, which is explained by ab-initio calculations.

Superconductivity in Epitaxial Thin Films of Co-Doped SrFe2As2 with Bilayered FeAs Structures and their Magnetic Anisotropy

Superconducting epitaxial films of Fe-based layered arsenide, Co-doped SrFe2As2, were grown at 700oC on mixed perovskite (La, Sr)(Al, Ta)O3 (001) single-crystal substrates by pulsed-laser deposition. Both the epitaxial film and an (001)-oriented film grown at 600oC exhibited superconducting transitions at ~ 20 K. The zero-resistance states of the epitaxial film were sustained under a magnetic field (H) of 9 T at 9 K when H was parallel to the c-axis, while they were sustained at higher temperatures up to 10 K for H parallel to the a-axis. This is the first demonstration of superconducting thin films of FeAs-based new superconductors.

Spin Dynamics in Iron-based Layered Superconductor (La_{0.87}Ca_{0.13})FePO Revealed by ^{31}P and ^{139}La NMR Studies

We report ^{31}P and ^{139}La NMR studies of (La_{0.87}Ca_{0.13})FePO, which is a family member of the recently discovered superconductor LaFeAs(O_{1-x}F_x). In the normal state, Knight shift and $1/T_1T$ show that a Fermi-liquid state with moderate ferromagnetic fluctuations emerges below 30K. From 1/T_1T of ^{31}P and ^{139}La, quasi-two dimensional electronic structure is suggested, in which the FeP layer is more conductive than the LaO layer. In the superconducting (SC) state, although a clear Meissner signal was observed, 1/T_1T increases below T_c, in contrast to a decrease of 1/T_1T due to the opening of a SC gap, suggesting that novel low-energy spin dynamics develop in the SC state.

Electronic Structure and Electron Correlation in LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_x and LaFePO_{1-x}F_x

Photoemission spectroscopy is used to investigate the electronic structure of the newly discovered iron-based superconductors LaFeAsO_{1-x}F_x and LaFePO_{1-x}F_x. Line shapes of the Fe 2p core-level spectra suggest an itinerant character of Fe 3d electrons. The valence-band spectra are generally consistent with band-structure calculations except for the shifts of Fe 3d-derived peaks toward the Fermi level. From spectra taken in the Fe 3p -> 3d core-absorption region, we have obtained the experimental Fe 3d partial density of states, and explained it in terms of a band-structure calculation with a phenomenological self-energy correction, yielding a mass renormalization factor of ~< 2.
