Dynamical Solution to Supersymmetric CP Problem with Vanishing B Parameter

The CP violation gives rise to severe restriction of soft breaking terms in supersymmetric standard models. Among them, constraints on the holomorphic soft mass of Higgs doublets (the B parameter) are difficult to satisfy due to the other inherent problem in the Higgs potential; the mu problem. In this letter, it is argued that these CP and mu problems can be rather relaxed provided that B is vanishing at high-energy scale. A generic mechanism and some examples of model are presented to dynamically realize this condition by introducing gauge singlet fields.

U(1) Flavor Symmetry and Proton Decay in Supersymmetric Standard Model

Issues of proton decay are examined in supersymmetric standard model with U(1) flavor symmetry. Dimension five proton-decay operators which arise generically are controlled by the flavor symmetry. We show that unlike the minimal supersymmetric SU(5) case the proton decay modes containing charged lepton can have large branching ratios if the dimension five operators of left-handed type dominate. Measuring the branching ratio of the electron mode to the muon mode may reveal the mechanism of the neutrino mass generation. The case with vanishing charges for Higgs doublets marginally survives the present experimental bound on proton life time.

Anomaly-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking with Axion

We construct hadronic axion models in the framework of the anomaly-mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario. If the Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking is related to the supersymmetry breaking, mass spectrum of the minimal anomaly-mediated scenario is modified, which may solve the negative slepton mass problem in the minimal anomaly-mediated model. We find several classes of phenomenologically viable models of axion within the framework of the anomaly mediation and, in particular, we point out a new mechanism of stabilizing the axion potential. In this class of models, the Peccei-Quinn scale is related to the messenger scale. We also study phenomenological aspects of this class of models. We will see that, in some case, the lightest particle among the superpartners of the standard-model particles is stau while the lightest superparticle becomes the axino, the superpartner of the axion. With such a unique mass spectrum, conventional studies of the collider physics and cosmology for supersymmetric models should be altered.

Bottom-Tau Unification in SUSY SU(5) GUT and Constraints from b to s gamma and Muon g-2

An analysis is made on bottom-tau Yukawa unification in supersymmetric (SUSY) SU(5) grand unified theory (GUT) in the framework of minimal supergravity, in which the parameter space is restricted by some experimental constraints including Br(b to s gamma) and muon g-2. The bottom-tau unification can be accommodated to the measured branching ratio Br(b to s gamma) if superparticle masses are relatively heavy and higgsino mass parameter μis negative. On the other hand, if we take the latest muon g-2 data to require positive SUSY contributions, then wrong-sign threshold corrections at SUSY scale upset the Yukawa unification with more than 20 percent discrepancy. It has to be compensated by superheavy threshold corrections around the GUT scale, which constrains models of flavor in SUSY GUT. A pattern of the superparticle masses preferred by the three requirements is also commented.

Splitting Triplet and Doublet in Extra Dimensions

A novel mechanism to realize the triplet-doublet splitting in supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories is proposed in the framework of higher dimensional theories where chiral multiplets are localized due to kink configuration of a SU(5) singlet. An adjoint Higgs field which spontaneously breaks the SU(5) gauge symmetry is assumed to be involved with the localization process, splitting the wave functions of the color-triplet Higgs from its doublet counterpart. The resulting effective four-dimensional theory does not possess manifest SU(5) invariance. By adjusting couplings, the doublet mass can be exponentially suppressed. We also show that dimension 5 proton decay from triplet Higgs exchange can be suppressed to a negligible level.

No-Scale Scenarios in the Light of New Measurement of Muon Anomalous Magnetic Moment

Supersymmetric contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment a_μis discussed in the no-scale-type supersymmetry breaking scenarios. Taking the correlation between the supersymmetric contributions to a_μand Br(b\to sγ), it is shown that the precise measurements of these quantities serve an important constraint on the relative sign of the gaugino masses; combining the 2.6-σdeviation in a_μfrom the standard-model prediction measured by the E821 experiment and Br(b\to sγ) measured by CLEO, the sign of the product M_2M_3 is strongly preferred to be positive, where M_2 and M_3 are SU(2)_L and SU(3)_C gaugino mass parameters, respectively. In particular, no-scale-type models with universal gaugino masses are in accord with the two constraints and also with the Higgs mass bound. In addition, it is also shown that future improvements in the measurements of a_μand Br(b\to sγ) may provide serious test of the cases with M_2M_3<0.

Inflation with Low Reheat Temperature and Cosmological Constraint on Stable Charged Massive Particles

Abundance of stable charged massive particles (CHAMPs) is severely constrained by their searches inside sea water. We examine whether inflation with low reheat temperature can sufficiently dilute the abundance to evade this severe bound on CHAMPs, by taking into account their production and annihilation in a plasma during reheating phase. We argue that the abundance of the CHAMPs with mass less than 1 TeV will exceed the experimental bound, ruling out these CHAMPs, especially the possibility of the superpartner of tau lepton as the stable lightest superparticle. On the other hand, it is found that the CHAMP much heavier than 1 TeV can survive the bound, if the reheat temperature is low enough.

Recent Result from E821 Experiment on Muon g-2 and Unconstrained Minimal Supersymemtric Standard Model

Recently, the E821 experiment at the Brookhaven National Laboratory announced their latest result of their muon g-2 measurement which is about 2.6-σaway from the standard model prediction. Taking this result seriously, we examine the possibility to explain this discrepancy by the supersymmetric contribution. Our analysis is performed in the framework of the unconstrained supersymmetric standard model which has free seven parameters relevant to muon g-2. We found that, in the case of large \tanβ, sparticle masses are allowed to be large in the region where the SUSY contribution to the muon g-2 is large enough, and hence the conventional SUSY search may fail even at the LHC. On the contrary, to explain the discrepancy in the case of small \tanβ, we found that (i) sleptons and SU(2)_L gauginos should be light, and (ii) negative search for the Higgs boson severely constrains the model in the framework of the mSUGRA and gauge-mediated model.

No-Scale Scenario with Non-Universal Gaugino Masses

Phenomenological issues of no-scale structure of Kähler potential are re-examined, which arises in various approaches to supersymmetry breaking. When no-scale boundary conditions are given at the Grand Unified scale and universal gaugino masses are postulated, a bino mass is quite degenerate with right-handed slepton masses and the requirement that the lightest superparticle (LSP) be neutral supplemented with slepton searches at LEP200 severely constrains allowed mass regions of superparticles. The situation drastically changes if one moderately relaxes the assumption of the universal gaugino masses. After reviewing some interesting scenarios where non-universal gaugino masses arise, we show that the non-universality diminishes the otherwise severe constraint on the superparticle masses, and leads a variety of superparticle mass spectra: in particular the LSP can be a wino-like neutralino, a higgsino-like neutralino, or even a sneutrino, and also left-handed sleptons can be lighter than right-handed ones.

Neutrino Masses and Mixing from Bilinear R-Parity Violation

Neutrino masses and mixing are generated in a supersymmetric standard model when R-parity is violated in bilinear mass terms. The mixing matrix among the neutrinos takes a restrictive form if the lepton flavor universality holds in the R-parity violating soft masses. It turns out that only the small angle MSW solution to the solar neutrino problem is consistent with the result of the CHOOZ experiment and the atmospheric neutrino data.

Gravitino Dark Matter without R-parity

Cosmological issues are examined when gravitino is the lightest superparticle (LSP) and R-parity is broken. Decays of the next lightest superparticles occur rapidly via R-parity violating interaction, and thus they do not upset the big-bang nucleosynthesis, unlike the R-parity conserving case. The gravitino LSP becomes unstable, but its lifetime is typically much longer than the age of the Universe. It turns out that observations of diffuse photon background coming from radiative decays of the gravitino do not severely constrain the gravitino abundance, and thus the gravitino weighing less than around 1 GeV can be dark matter of the Universe when bilinear R-parity violation generates a neutrino mass which accounts for the atmospheric neutrino anomaly.

Low-Scale Anomalous U(1) and Decoupling Solution to Supersymmetric Flavor Problem

Supersymmetric standard models where the ultraviolet cut-off scale is only a few orders of magnitude higher than the electroweak scale are considered. Phenomenological consequences of this class of models are expected to be very different from, for example, the conventional supergravity scenario. We apply this idea to a model with an anomalous U(1) gauge group and construct a viable model in which some difficulties of the decoupling solution to the supersymmetric flavor problem are ameliorated.

Axion model in extra dimensions with TeV scale gravity

A simple axion model is proposed in the scenario of large extra dimensions where gravity scale is as low as 1 TeV. To obtain an intermediate-scale decay constant of the axion, the axion is assumed to live in a sub-spacetime (brane) of the whole bulk. In this model there appear Kaluza-Klein modes of the axion which have stronger interaction than those of the graviton. The axion brane plays a role of absorber of the graviton Kaluza-Klein modes. Because of these reasons phenomenology and cosmology of the axion become highly non-trivial. We discuss various cosmological constraints as well as astrophysical ones and show that the model is viable for certain choices of the dimensionality of the axion brane. The structure of the model proposed here provides a viable realization of the fat brane idea to relax otherwise very severe cosmological constraints.

Bulk Standard Model in the Randall-Sundrum Background

We discuss issues in an attempt to put the Standard Model (SM) in five-dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetime compactified on $S^1/Z_2$. The recently-proposed approach to the gauge hierarchy problem by using this background geometry, with the SM confined on a boundary, is extended to a situation where (some of) the SM particles reside in the five dimensional bulk. In particular, we find a localization of zero modes of bulk fermions near the boundary with a negative tension. Unlike the compactification with the flat metric, these fermion zero modes couple to Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations of the SM gauge bosons. Interestingly, only low-lying modes of such KK gauge bosons have non-negligible couplings. Current electroweak precision data give a constraint that the first KK mode be heavier than 9 TeV. We also argue that at least the Higgs field should be confined on the brane to utilize the Randall-Sundrum background as a solution to the gauge hierarchy.

Pattern of Neutrino Oscillations in Supersymmetry with Bilinear R-parity Violation

Neutrino masses and their mixing are studied in detail in the framework of a supersymmetric standard model with bilinear R-parity violation. In this scenario, the mixing matrix among the neutrinos is in a restrictive form. We find that only the small angle MSW solution is allowed for the solar neutrino problem when the results of the CHOOZ experiment are combined with the mass squared difference and mixing angle suggested by the atmospheric neutrino data. Collider signals of this scenario are also discussed.

Fate of Gravitons in Warped Extra Dimension

Interaction of bulk gravitons to Standard Model particles is examined in the scenario of warped extra dimension. It is found that the length of the extra dimension is of physical importance as it determines the decay widths of graviton Kaluza-Klein modes. We show that cosmology as well as collider signals of the Kaluza-Klein modes are very different for different choices of the length of the fifth dimension.

Probing the Nature of Compactification with Kaluza-Klein Excitations at the Large Hadron Collider

It is shown that the nature of compactification of extra dimensions in theories of large radius compactification can be explored in several processes at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Specifically it is shown that the characteristics of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) excitations encode information on the nature of compactification, i.e., on the number of compactified dimensions as well as on the type of compactification, e.g., of the specific orbifold compactification. The most dramatic signals arise from the interference pattern involving the exchange of the Standard Model spin 1 bosons ($γ$ and Z) and their Kaluza-Klein modes in the dilepton final state $pp\to l^+l^-X$. It is shown that LHC with 100$fb^{-1}$ of luminosity can discover Kaluza-Klein modes up to compactification scales of $\approx 6$ TeV as well as identify the nature of compactification. Effects of the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the W boson and of the gluon are also studied. Exhibition of these phenomena is given for the case of one extra dimension and for the case of two extra dimensions with $Z_2\times Z_2, Z_3$, and $Z_6$ orbifold compactifications.
