Effects of Kaluza-Klein Excitations on g_μ-2

An analysis of the effects associated with the Kaluza-Klein excitations of the photon and of the W and Z bosons on g_μ-2 for d number of extra dimensions with large radius compactifications is given. The Kaluza-Klein effects on g_μ-2 are found to be very sensitive to the number of extra dimensions. For models where the quark-lepton generations live on the 4D wall, it is shown that when the constraints from the Kaluza-Klein corrections to the Fermi constant are included, the effects of the Kaluza-Klein excitations to g_μ-2 become too small to be observable. A model which evades Kaluza-Klein corrections to the muon decay μ\to e\barν_eν_μ without suppression of their effects on g_μ-2 is discussed.

Effects of Extra Space-time Dimensions on the Fermi Constant

Effects of Kaluza-Klein excitations associated with extra dimensions with large radius compactifications on the Fermi constant are explored. It is shown that the current precision determinations of the Fermi constant, of the fine structure constant, and of the W and Z mass put stringent constraints on the compactification radius. The analysis excludes one extra space time dimension below $\sim 1.6$ TeV, and excludes 2, 3 and 4 extra space dimensions opening simultaneously below $\sim$ 3.5 TeV, 5.7 TeV and 7.8 TeV at the $90% CL$. Implications of these results for future collider experiments are discussed.

Hadronic Axion Model in Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking and Cosmology of Saxion

Recently we have proposed a simple hadronic axion model within gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. In this paper we discuss various cosmological consequences of the model in great detail. A particular attention is paid to a saxion, a scalar partner of an axion, which is produced as a coherent oscillation in the early universe. We show that our model is cosmologically viable, if the reheating temperature of inflation is sufficiently low. We also discuss the late decay of the saxion which gives a preferable power spectrum of the density fluctuation in the standard cold dark matter model when compared with the observation.

Hadronic Axion Model in Gauge-Mediated Supersymmetry Breaking

A simple hadronic axion model is proposed in the framework of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking. Dynamics of Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking is governed by supersymmetry breaking effects and the Peccei-Quinn breaking scale $f_{PQ}$ is inversely proportional to the gravitino mass. The gravitino mass range which corresponds to the axion window $f_{PQ} \simeq 10^{9}$ GeV -- $10^{13}$ GeV lies in the region predicted by gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. The model is also shown to be cosmologically viable.

Late-Time Entropy Production and Relic Abundances of Neutralinos

Many models possess unwanted relics, which should be diluted by entropy production just before the big-bang nucleosynthesis. A field responsible for the entropy production may produce stable weakly interacting massive particles, if kinematically accessible. We compute their relic abundances by integrating out coupled equations numerically. Applying our results to supersymmetric standard models, we argue that the neutralino lightest superparticles will overclose the universe in most of the parameter space if the reheat temperature is of the order of 10 MeV.

The Formation of Cosmic Structures in a Light Gravitino Dominated Universe

We analyse the formation of cosmic structures in models where the dark matter is dominated by light gravitinos with mass of $ 100$ eV -- 1 keV, as predicted by gauge-mediated supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking models. After evaluating the number of degrees of freedom at the gravitinos decoupling ($g_*$), we compute the transfer function for matter fluctuations and show that gravitinos behave like warm dark matter (WDM) with free-streaming scale comparable to the galaxy mass scale. We consider different low-density variants of the WDM model, both with and without cosmological constant, and compare the predictions on the abundances of neutral hydrogen within high-redshift damped Ly--$α$ systems and on the number density of local galaxy clusters with the corresponding observational constraints. We find that none of the models satisfies both constraints at the same time, unless a rather small $Ω_0$ value ($\mincir 0.4$) and a rather large Hubble parameter ($\magcir 0.9$) is assumed. Furthermore, in a model with warm + hot dark matter, with hot component provided by massive neutrinos, the strong suppression of fluctuation on scales of $\sim 1\hm$ precludes the formation of high-redshift objects, when the low--$z$ cluster abundance is required. We conclude that all different variants of a light gravitino DM dominated model show strong difficulties for what concerns cosmic structure formation. This gives a severe cosmological constraint on the gauge-mediated SUSY breaking scheme.

Light Gravitinos as Mixed Dark Matter

In theories with a gauge-mediated mechanism of supersymmetry breaking the gravitino is likely to be the lightest superparticle and, hence, a candidate for dark matter. We show that the decay of the next-to-lightest superparticle into a gravitino can yield a non-thermal population of gravitinos which behave as a hot dark matter component. Together with the warm component, which is provided by the population of gravitinos of thermal origin, they can give rise to viable schemes of mixed dark matter. This realization has some specific and testable features both in particle physics and astrophysics. We outline under which conditions the mechanism remains viable even when R parity is broken.

Post Inflationary Behaviour of String Moduli

We analyze the behaviour of moduli fields in string effective models between the end of inflation and reheating. The effective moduli potential during this era is derived for a class of simple models. We argue that this potential significantly stabilizes the modulus at its high energy minimum, if some restrictions on modular weights are met. Two mechanisms to further stabilize the moduli to their low energy minima are discussed explicitly: coinciding minima at a point of enhanced symmetry, and the smooth transition from high to low energy minimum by an effective mass term C^2 H^2. For both cases we present explicit examples, and C^2 is found to be O(10) at most. In addition, we show that during a smooth transition the reduction of the modulus amplitude strongly depends on the shape of the low energy potential.

Heavy Polonyi Field as a Solution of the Polonyi Problem

We study properties of the Polonyi field in the renormalizable hidden sector in supergravity models. It is shown that radiative corrections induce a sizable coupling of the Polonyi field to gravitinos as well as raise its mass to an intermediate scale. We find it serves a solution of the Polonyi problem and show that the gravitino abundance produced by the Polonyi decay is not large. It is also pointed out that soft supersymmetry breaking terms induced by this hidden sector are very restricted.

Stability of Gauge Hierarchy in Einstein Supergravity

In supersymmetric grand unified theories, the gauge hierarchy achieved by a fine-tuning in the superpotential can be violated in the presence of soft breaking terms. We examine this problem in Einstein supergravity with hidden-sector supersymmetry breaking. We show that the hierarchy is preserved if couplings of the hidden sector to visible-sector fields in the superpotential satisfy a certain requirement.

Low-Energy Effective Lagrangian in Unified Theories with Non-Universal Supersymmetry Breaking Terms

Supersymmetric grand unified theories with non-universal soft supersymmetry breaking terms are studied. By integrating out the superheavy fields at an unification scale, we compute their low-energy effective Lagrangian. We find new contributions to the scalar potential specific to the non-universal supersymmetry breaking. $D$-term contribution to the scalar masses is one example. The gauge hierarchy achieved by a fine-tuning in the superpotential would be violated in general due to the non-universal SUSY breaking terms. We show, however, it is preserved for a certain class of the soft terms derived from a {\em hidden} ansatz. We also discuss some phenomenological implications of the non-universal supersymmetry breaking, including predictions of the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking scenario and of no-scale type models.

Probing Symmetry-Breaking Pattern Using Sfermion Masses

We study the mass spectrum of superparticles within supersymmetric grand unified models. For gaugino masses, it is pointed out that the GUT-relation in the $SU(5)$ model is applicable to a more general case where a grand-unified gauge group breaks down to the standard model gauge group by several steps. We also show that the mass spectrum of squarks and sleptons carries the information on the breaking pattern of the gauge symmetry. It is demonstrated in some $SO(10)$ models how the scalar mass spectrum distinguishes various $SO(10)$ breaking patterns from each other.

Phenomenological Aspects of Supersymmetric Standard Models without Grand Unification

When the GUT relation on gaugino masses is relaxed, the mass and composition of the lightest neutralino are different from those in the GUT case. We discuss its phenomenological implications on the relic abundance of the neutralinos and on superparticle searches. In particular, we focus on the case where the neutral component of Winos dominates the lightest neutralino. It turns out the Wino-LSP is not a candidate for the dark matter.

Coannihilation Effects and Relic Abundance of Higgsino-Dominant LSPs

We calculate the relic abundance of Higgsino-dominant lightest superparticles, taking account of coannihilations with the superparticles which are almost degenerate with the lightest one. We show that their relic abundance is reduced drastically by the coannihilation processes and hence they are cosmologically of no interest.
