Complete Tenth-Order QED Contribution to the Muon g-2

We report the result of our calculation of the complete tenth-order QED terms of the muon g-2. Our result is a_μ^{(10)} = 753.29 (1.04) in units of (α/π)^5, which is about 4.5 s.d. larger than the leading-logarithmic estimate 663 (20). We also improved the precision of the eighth-order QED term of a_μ, obtaining a_μ^{(8)} = 130.8794(63) in units of (α/π)^4. The new QED contribution is a_μ(QED) = 116 584 718 951 (80) \times 10^{-14}, which does not resolve the existing discrepancy between the standard-model prediction and measurement of a_μ.

Full QED+QCD Low-Energy Constants through Reweighting

The effect of sea quark electromagnetic charge on meson masses is investigated, and first results for full QED+QCD low-energy constants are presented. The electromagnetic charge for sea quarks is incorporated in quenched QED+full QCD lattice simulations by a reweighting method. The reweighting factor, which connects quenched and unquenched QED, is estimated using a stochastic method on 2+1 flavor dynamical domain-wall quark ensembles.

Tenth-Order QED Lepton Anomalous Magnetic Moment --- Eighth-Order Vertices Containing a Second-Order Vacuum Polarization

This paper reports the evaluation of the tenth-order QED contribution to the lepton g-2 from the gauge-invariant set of 2072 Feynman diagrams, called Set IV, which are obtained by inserting a second-order lepton vacuum-polarization loop into 518 eighth-order vertex diagrams of four-photon exchange type. The numerical evaluation is carried out by the adaptive-iterative Monte-Carlo integration routine vegas using the fortran codes written by the automatic code-generating algorithm gencodeN. Some of the numerical results are confirmed by comparison with the values of corresponding integrals that have been obtained previously by a different method. The result for the mass-independent contribution of the Set IV to the electron g-2 is $-7.7296 (48) (α/π)^5$. There is also a small mass-dependent contribution to the electron g-2 due to the muon loop: $-0.01136 (7) (α/π)^5$. The contribution of the tau-lepton loop is $-0.0000937(104)(α/π)^5$. The sum of all these contributions to the electron g-2 is $-7.7407(49) (α/π)^5$. The same set of diagrams enables us to evaluate the contributions to the muon g-2 from the electron loop, muon loop, and tau-lepton loop. They add up to $-46.95 (17) (α/π)^5$.

Tenth-Order Lepton Anomalous Magnetic Moment -- Sixth-Order Vertices Containing Vacuum-Polarization Subdiagrams

This paper reports the values of contributions to the electron g-2 from 300 Feynman diagrams of the gauge-invariant Set III(a) and 450 Feynman diagrams of the gauge-invariant Set III(b). The evaluation is carried out in two versions. Version A is to start from the sixth-order magnetic anomaly M_6 obtained in the previous work. The mass-independent contributions of Set III(a) and Set III(b) are 2.1275 (2) and 3.3271 (6) in units of (alpha/pi)^5, respectively. Version B is based on the recently-developed automatic code generation scheme. This method yields 2.1271 (3) and 3.3271 (8) in units of (alpha/pi)^5, respectively. They are in excellent agreement with the results of the first method within the uncertainties of numerical integration. Combining these results as statistically independent we obtain the best values, 2.1273 (2), and 3.3271 (5) times (alpha/pi)^5, for the mass-independent contributions of the Set III(a) and Set III(b), respectively. We have also evaluated mass-dependent contributions of diagrams containing muon and/or tau-particle loop. Including them the total contribution of Set III(a) is 2.1349 (2) and that of Set III(b) is 3.3299 (5) in units of (alpha/pi)^5. The total contributions to the muon g-2 of various leptonic vacuum-polarization loops of Set III(a) and Set III(b) are 112.418 (32) and 15.407 (5) in units of (alpha/pi)^5, respectively.

Isospin symmetry breaking effects in the pion and nucleon masses

We investigate the electromagnetic mass splittings in the pseudoscalar meson and nucleon systems by combining 2+1 flavor domain wall fermion gauge configurations, generated by the RBC and UKQCD collaborations, and quenched, non-compact, lattice QED configurations. We analyze finite volume effects by using $16^3\times 32$ and $24^3\times 64$ lattices.

QED in finite volume and finite size scaling effect on electromagnetic properties of hadrons

On account of its application to the present and future analysis of the virtual photon correction to the hadronic properties by means of lattice QCD simulation, we initiate the study of the finite size scaling effect on the QED correction using low energy effective theory of QCD with QED. For this purpose, we begin with formulating a new QED on the space with finite volume. By adapting this formalism to the partially quenched QCD with electromagnetism, we explore the qualitative features of the finite size scaling effect on the electromagnetic correction to the masses of pseudo-Goldstone bosons.

Determination of light quark masses from the electromagnetic splitting of pseudoscalar meson masses computed with two flavors of domain wall fermions

We determine the light quark masses from lattice QCD simulations incorporating the electromagnetic interaction of valence quarks. The meson masses are calculated on lattice QCD configurations generated by the RBC Collaboration for two flavors of dynamical domain wall fermions, which are combined with QED configurations generated via quenched non-compact lattice QED. The electromagnetic part of the pion mass splitting is found to be $m_{π^+}-m_{π^0}=4.12(21)$ MeV, where only the statistical error is quoted, and similarly for the kaon, 1.443(55) MeV. Our results for the light quark masses are $m_u^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$3.02(27)(19)$ MeV, $m_d^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$5.49(20)(34)$ MeV, and $m_s^{\rm\bar{MS}}$(2 GeV)=$119.5(56)(74)$ MeV, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. By averaging over $\pm e$ to cancel ${\cal O}(e)$ noise exactly on each combined gauge field configuration, we are able to work at physical $α=1/137$ and obtain very small statistical errors. In our calculation, several sources of systematic error remain, including finite volume, non-zero lattice spacing, chiral extrapolation, quenched QED, and quenched strange quark, which may be more significant than the errors quoted above.

Note on massless bosonic states in two-dimensional field theories

In a wide class of $G_L\times G_R$ invariant two-dimensional super-renormalizable field theories, the parity-odd part of the two-point function of global currents is completely determined by a fermion one-loop diagram. For any non-trivial fermion content, the two-point function possesses a massless pole which corresponds to massless bosonic physical states. As an application, we show that two-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetric gauge theory without a superpotential possesses $U(1)_L\times U(1)_R$ symmetry and contains one massless bosonic state per fixed spatial momentum. The $\mathcal{N}=(4,4)$ supersymmetric pure Yang-Mills theory possesses $SU(2)_L\times SU(2)_R$ symmetry, and there exist at least three massless bosonic states.

Overlap Fermion in External Gravity

On a lattice, we construct an overlap Dirac operator which describes the propagation of a Dirac fermion in external gravity. The local Lorentz symmetry is manifestly realized as a lattice gauge symmetry, while the general coordinate invariance is expected to be restored only in the continuum limit. The lattice index density in the presence of a gravitational field is calculated.

The isospin breaking effect on baryons with Nf=2 domain wall fermions

We study the isospin breaking effect on octet baryons. Using the two-flavor dynamical domain-wall QCD configurations combined with the quenched non-compact QED configurations, the electromagnetic mass splittings between isomultiplets (p, n), (Sigma^+, Sigma^0, Sigma^-), (Xi^0, Xi^-) are investigated. We evaluate the main source of statistical fluctuations in the two-point correlation function, and find that the elimination of O(e) fluctuation (e: the QED charge) is essential to extract the signal. Preliminary results for $m_p - m_n$ as well as other mass splittings are presented. Possible origin of systematic uncertainty is also discussed.

Overlap lattice fermion in a gravitational field

We construct a lattice Dirac operator of overlap type that describes the propagation of a Dirac fermion in an external gravitational field. The local Lorentz symmetry is manifestly realized as a lattice gauge symmetry, while it is believed that the general coordinate invariance is restored only in the continuum limit. Our doubler-free Dirac operator satisfies the conventional Ginsparg-Wilson relation and possesses gamma_5 hermiticity with respect to the inner product, which is suggested by the general coordinate invariance. The lattice index theorem in the presence of a gravitational field holds, and the classical continuum limit of the index density reproduces the Dirac genus. Reduction to a single Majorana fermion is possible for 8k+2 and 8k+4 dimensions, but not for 8k dimensions, which is consistent with the existence of the global gravitational/gauge anomalies in 8k dimensions. Other Lorentz representations, such as the spinor-vector and the bi-spinor representations, can also be treated. Matter fields with a definite chirality (with respect to the lattice-modified chiral matrix) are briefly considered.

Gauge Anomaly associated with the Majorana Fermion in $8k+1$ dimensions

Using an elementary method, we show that an odd number of Majorana fermions in $8k+1$ dimensions suffer from a gauge anomaly that is analogous to the Witten global gauge anomaly. This anomaly cannot be removed without sacrificing the perturbative gauge invariance. Our construction of higher-dimensional examples ($k geq1$) makes use of the SO(8) instanton on $S^8$.

Hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon g-2 from lattice QCD : Methodology

The hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution to the muon g-2 is the most troublesome component of its theoretical prediction; (1) it cannot be determined from the other measurable quantities, (2) the dimensional argument and the estimation based on hadronic models imply that the magnitude of this contribution may be comparable to the discrepancy between the standard model prediction and the experimental value. The direct approach to evaluate the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution requires the evaluation of the correlation function of {\it four} hadronic electromagnetic currents, and the summation of it over two independent four-momenta of off-shell photons, which is far from the reach of direct lattice simulation. Here we propose an alternative method using combined (QCD + QED) lattice simulations to evaluate the hadronic light-by-light scattering contribution.

Perturbative dynamics of matrix string for the membrane

Recently Sekino and Yoneya proposed a way to regularize the world volume theory of membranes wrapped around $S^1$ by matrices and showed that one obtains matrix string theory as a regularization of such a theory. We show that this correspondence between matrix string theory and wrapped membranes can be obtained by using the usual M(atrix) theory techniques. Using this correspondence, we construct the super-Poincare generators of matrix string theory at the leading order in the perturbation theory. It is shown that these generators satisfy 10 dimensional super-Poincaré algebra without any anomaly.

Comment on the sign of the pseudoscalar pole contribution to the muon g-2

We correct the error in the sign of the pseudoscalar pole contribution to the muon g-2, which dominates the O(alpha^3) hadronic light-by-light scattering effect. The error originates from our oversight of a feature of the algebraic manipulation program FORM which defines the epsilon-tensor in such a way that it satisfies the relation epsilon_{mu_1 mu_2 mu_3 mu_4} epsilon_{nu_1 nu_2 nu_3 nu_4} eta^{mu_1 nu_1} eta^{mu_2 nu_2} eta^{mu_3 nu_3} eta^{mu_4 nu_4} = 24, irrespective of space-time metric. To circumvent this problem, we replaced the product epsilon_{mu_1 mu_2 mu_3 mu_4} epsilon_{nu_1 nu_2 nu_3 nu_4} by - eta_{mu_1 nu_1} eta_{mu_2 nu_2} eta_{mu_3 nu_3} eta_{mu_4 nu_4} \pm cdots in the FORM-formatted program, and obtained a positive value for the pseudoscalar pole contribution, in agreement with the recent result obtained by Knecht {\it et al}.

Muon g-2 and precision electroweak physics in the MSSM

The minimal supersymmetric extension of standard model (MSSM) is examined by analyzing its quantum effects on the precision electroweak measurements and the muon g-2. We examine carefully the effects of light charginos and neutralinos that are found to improve the fit to the electroweak data. We identify two distinct regions on the $(μ, M_2)$-plane that fit well to the electroweak data and give significant contribution to muon g-2.
