The exact dynamical structure factor of one-dimensional hard rods and its universal random matrix behavior

We obtain an exact analytic expression for the dynamical structure factor of one-dimensional quantum gas of hard rods. Our result is valid for an arbitrary many-body state of the system, with finite temperature states and the ground state being important special cases that we analyse in detail. We demonstrate that the expression obeys fundamental relations such like the f-sum rule and the detailed balance. We also reveal the hidden fermionic structure behind the correlator. In the static limit we show that it can be written in terms of universal functions which, at zero temperature, coincide with the level spacing distribution function of the Gaussian Unitary Ensemble. Our work provides a full and exact characterisation of a dynamic correlation function in a strongly correlated interacting quantum many-body system.

Exact dimer ground states of long-range spin chains and ladders

Interacting spin chains and ladders are known to support a plethora of quantum phases with complex ground-state phase diagrams. In this work, we study a large family of such models and determine precise, explicit conditions under which an exact dimer state is guaranteed to be the ground state. These general conditions are validated for various generalizations of the Majumdar-Ghosh model using exact diagonalization. Our results provide exact reference points in the phase diagrams of a wide class of spin chains and ladders, including those with anisotropic and arbitrary-range interactions.

Crossover from generalized to conventional hydrodynamics in nearly integrable systems under relaxation time approximation

Upon breaking the integrability, the equations of generalized hydrodynamics (GHD) are supplemented by a Boltzmann collision term. Such terms are typically complicated and stem from a perturbative treatment of integrability-breaking terms in the hamiltonian. In our work, we study a simplified version of the collision operator in a form of relaxation time approximation familiar from kinetic theory. We explicitly compute transport coefficients which characterize the Navier-Stokes (NS) hydrodynamic regime emerging at large space-time scales. We also thoroughly study the crossover between GHD and NS hydrodynamic descriptions, identifying relevant characteristic space-time scales for the transition. In particular, we show how the emergence of NS hydrodynamics is visible in dynamics of conserved and non-conserved charge densities, and in hydrodynamic two-point functions.

Dynamic structure factor of quantum hard rods from exact form-factors

We study the quantum hard-rods model and obtain compact analytical expressions for density form factors, and a semi-analytical treatment for dynamic and static structure factors calculations, greatly reducing computational complexity. We identify conditions under which these form factors vanish and analyze real-space correlations, confirming the model's Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid behavior. The results reveal universal features of low energy physics of a gapless quantum fluid and its relation to Luttinger liquid theory, providing precise benchmarks for numerical simulations. This work establishes quantum hard rods as an important testbed for theories of strongly correlated one-dimensional systems.

Burgers equation from non-thermal stationary states in nearly-integrable gases

When a gas of particles interacts with much a larger reservoir the density dynamics on large scales is typically governed by diffusion. We study this paradigmatic problem for weakly coupled integrable systems and show that this picture gets altered, when transport is investigated on top of long-lived non-thermal states. Remarkably, for states non-invariant under parity we find Burgers equation arising in the hydrodynamic limit. We explicitly compute the diffusion constant and nonlinear advective coefficient of the Burgers equation using a variant of the Chapman-Enskog theory. We find an excellent agreement between our theory and numerical simulations of a simplified model of stochastic two-body collisions. Our conclusions are based only on Galilean invariance, existence of a small system-bath coupling parameter and a small momentum exchange between the system and the bath particles during two-body scattering.

Chapman-Enskog theory and crossover between diffusion and superdiffusion for nearly integrable quantum gases

Integrable systems feature an infinite number of conserved charges and on hydrodynamic scales are described by generalised hydrodynamics (GHD). This description breaks down when the integrability is weakly broken and sufficiently large space-time-scales are probed. The emergent hydrodynamics depends then on the charges conserved by the perturbation. We focus on nearly-integrable Galilean-invariant systems with conserved particle number, momentum and energy. Basing on the Boltzmann approach to integrability-breaking we describe dynamics of the system with GHD equation supplemented with a collision term. The limit of large space-time-scales is addressed using Chapman-Enskog expansion adapted to the GHD equation. For length scales larger than $\sim λ^{-2}$, where $λ$ is integrability-breaking parameter, we recover Navier-Stokes equations and find transport coefficients: viscosity and thermal conductivity. At even larger length scales, this description crosses over to Kardar-Parisi-Zhang universality class, characteristic to generic non-integrable one-dimensional fluids. Employing nonlinear fluctuating hydrodynamics we estimate this crossover length scale as $ \sim λ^{-4}$.

Quantum features of the transport through ion channels in the soft knock-on model

Ion channels are protein structures that facilitate the selective passage of ions across the membrane cells of living organisms. They are known for their high conductance and high selectivity. The precise mechanism between these two seemingly contradicting features is not yet firmly established. One possible candidate is the quantum coherence. In this work we study the quantum model of the soft knock-on conduction using the Lindblad equation taking into account the non-hermiticity of the model. We show that the model exhibits a regime in which high conductance coexists with high coherence. Our findings second the role of quantum effects in the transport properties of the ion channels.

Local Properties of the Rapidity Distribution in the Lieb-Liniger Model

We study the rapidity distribution in the Lieb-Liniger model and derive exact relations for its derivatives at the Fermi level. The latter enables us to treat analytically the free energy of the system at low temperatures and arbitrary interactions. We calculated the leading-order correction to the well-known result obtained using conformal field theory. In contrast to the leading-order term controlled by the sound velocity or the Luttinger liquid parameter, the new term is controlled by an additional dimensionless parameter. We calculated its series expansions in the limiting cases of weak and strong interactions. Our results are generalized to other Galilean-invariant integrable systems.

Navier-Stokes equations for nearly integrable quantum gases

The Navier-Stokes equations are paradigmatic equations describing hydrodynamics of an interacting system with microscopic interactions encoded in transport coefficients. In this work we show how the Navier-Stokes equations arise from the microscopic dynamics of nearly integrable $1d$ quantum many-body systems. We build upon the recently developed hydrodynamics of integrable models to study the effective Boltzmann equation with collision integral taking into account the non-integrable interactions. We compute the transport coefficients and find that the resulting Navier-Stokes equations have two regimes, which differ in the viscous properties of the fluid. We illustrate the method by computing the transport coefficients for an experimentally relevant case of coupled $1d$ cold-atomic gases.

Prethermalization in coupled one-dimensional quantum gases

We consider the problem of the development of steady states in one-dimensional Bose gas tubes that are weakly coupled to one another through a density-density interaction. We analyze this development through a Boltzmann collision integral approach. We argue that when the leading order of the collision integral, where single particle-hole excitations are created in individual gases, is dominant, the state of the gas evolves first to a non-thermal fixed point, i.e. a prethermalization plateau. This order is dominant when a pair of tubes are inequivalent with, say, different temperatures or different effective interaction parameters, $γ$. We characterize this non-thermal prethermalization plateau, constructing both the quasi-conserved quantities that control the existence of this plateau as well as the associated generalized Gibbs ensemble.

Extending the Thermodynamic Form Factor Bootstrap Program: Multiple particle-hole excitations, crossing symmetry, and reparameterization invariance

In this study, we further the thermodynamic bootstrap program which involves a set of recently developed ideas used to determine thermodynamic form factors of local operators in integrable quantum field theories. These form factors are essential building blocks for dynamic correlation functions at finite temperatures or non-equilibrium stationary states. In this work we extend this program in three ways. Firstly, we demonstrate that the conjectured annihilation pole axiom is valid in the low energy particle-hole excitations. Secondly, we introduce a crossing relation, which establishes a connection between form factors with different excitation content. Typically, the crossing relation is a consequence of Lorentz invariance, but due to the finite energy density of the considered states, Lorentz invariance is broken. Nonetheless a crossing relation involving excitations with both particles and holes can established using the finite volume representation of the thermodynamic form factors. Finally, we demonstrate that the thermodynamic form factors satisfy a reparameterization invariance, an invariance which encompasses crossing. Reparameterization invariance exploits the fact that the details of the representation of the thermodynamic state are unimportant. In the course of developing these results, we demonstrate the internal consistency of the thermodynamic form factor bootstrap program in a number of ways. Finally, we provide explicit computations of form factors of conserved charges and densities with crossed excitations and show our results can be used to infer information about thermodynamic form factors in the Lieb-Liniger model.

Kubo-Martin-Schwinger relation for an interacting mobile impurity

In this work we study the Kubo-Martin-Schwinger (KMS) relation in the Yang-Gaudin model of an interacting mobile impurity. We use the integrability of the model to compute the dynamic injection and ejection Green's functions at finite temperatures. We show that due to separability of the Hilbert space with an impurity, the ejection Green's in a canonical ensemble cannot be reduced to a single expectation value as per microcanonical picture. Instead, it involves a thermal average over contributions from different subspaces of the Hilbert space which, due to the integrability, are resolved using the so-called spin rapidity. It is then natural to consider the injection and ejection Green's functions within each subspace. By means of reformulating the original KMS condition as a Riemann-Hilbert problem, we analytically demonstrate that such Green's functions obey a refined analogous relation, which is finally corroborated by numerical evaluation.

Thermalization of interacting quasi-one-dimensional systems

Many experimentally relevant systems are quasi-one-dimensional, consisting of nearly decoupled chains. In these systems, there is a natural separation of scales between the strong intra-chain interactions and the weak interchain coupling. When the intra-chain interactions are integrable, weak interchain couplings play a crucial part in thermalizing the system. Here, we develop a Boltzmann-equation formalism involving a collision integral that is asymptotically exact for any interacting integrable system, and apply it to develop a quantitative theory of relaxation in coupled Bose gases in the experimentally relevant Newton's cradle setup. We find that relaxation involves a broad spectrum of timescales. We provide evidence that the Markov process governing relaxation at late times is gapless; thus, the approach to equilibrium is generally non-exponential, even for spatially uniform perturbations.

Mobile impurity in a one-dimensional gas at finite temperatures

We consider the McGuire model of a one-dimensional gas of free fermions interacting with a single impurity. We compute the static one-body function and momentum distribution of the impurity at finite temperatures. The results involve averages over Fredholm determinants that we further analyse using the effective form factors approach. With this approach, we derive the large-distance behaviour of the one-body function, which takes the form of an averaged exponential decay. This method allows us to study an experimentally important regime of small momenta of the impurity's momentum distribution. We also consider the one-body function at short distances and compute finite temperature Tan's contact.

The relevant excitations for the one-body function in the Lieb-Liniger model

We study the ground state one-body correlation function in the Lieb-Liniger model. In the spectral representation, correlations are built from contributions stemming from different excited states of the model. We aim to understand which excited states carry significant contributions, specifically focusing on the small energy-momentum part of the dynamic one-body function. We conjecture that relevant excitations take form similar to two-spinon states known from XXZ spin chain. We validate this hypothesis by numerical evaluation of the correlator with ABACUS algorithm and by analytical computations in the strongly interacting regime.

Correlation functions and transport coefficients in generalised hydrodynamics

We review the recent advances on exact results for dynamical correlation functions at large scales and related transport coefficients in interacting integrable models. We discuss Drude weights, conductivity and diffusion constants, as well as linear and nonlinear response on top of equilibrium and non-equilibrium states. We consider the problems from the complementary perspectives of the general hydrodynamic theory of many-body systems, including hydrodynamic projections, and form-factor expansions in integrable models, and show how they provide a comprehensive and consistent set of exact methods to extract large scale behaviours. Finally, we overview various applications in integrable spin chains and field theories.

The two particle-hole pairs contribution to the dynamic correlation functions of quantum integrable models

We consider the problem of computing dynamic correlation functions of quantum integrable models employing the thermodynamic form-factor approach. Specifically, we focus on correlations of local operators that conserve the number of particles and consider the 2-particle-hole contribution to their two-point functions. With the method developed being generally applicable to any finite energy and entropy state, our primary focus is on the thermal states. To exemplify this approach, we chose the Lieb-Liniger model and study the leading contribution from 2-particle-hole excitations at small momenta to the dynamic density-density correlation function. We also consider analogous contributions to two-point functions of higher local conserved densities and currents present in integrable theories.

Branes, quivers and wave-functions

We consider a large class of branes in toric strip geometries, both non-periodic and periodic ones. For a fixed background geometry we show that partition functions for such branes can be reinterpreted, on one hand, as quiver generating series, and on the other hand as wave-functions in various polarizations. We determine operations on quivers, as well as $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ transformations, which correspond to changing positions of these branes. Our results prove integrality of BPS multiplicities associated to this class of branes, reveal how they transform under changes of polarization, and imply all other properties of brane amplitudes that follow from the relation to quivers.
