E_n Genera

Let R be an E_2 ring spectrum with zero odd dimensional homotopy groups. Every map of ring spectra MU to R is represented by a map of E_2 ring spectra. If 2 is invertible in pi_0(R), then every map of ring spectra MSO to R is represented by a map of E_2 ring spectra.

Quantitative Homotopy Theory in Topological Data Analysis

This paper lays the foundations of an approach to applying Gromov's ideas on quantitative topology to topological data analysis. We introduce the "contiguity complex", a simplicial complex of maps between simplicial complexes defined in terms of the combinatorial notion of contiguity. We generalize the Simplicial Approximation Theorem to show that the contiguity complex approximates the homotopy type of the mapping space as we subdivide the domain. We describe algorithms for approximating the rate of growth of the components of the contiguity complex under subdivision of the domain; this procedure allows us to computationally distinguish spaces with isomorphic homology but different homotopy types.

Localization theorems in topological Hochschild homology and topological cyclic homology

We construct localization cofiber sequences for the topological Hochschild homology (THH) and topological cyclic homology (TC) of spectral categories. Using a global construction of the THH and TC of a scheme in terms of the perfect complexes in a spectrally enriched version of the category of unbounded complexes, the sequences specialize to localization cofiber sequences associated to the inclusion of an open subscheme. These are the targets of the cyclotomic trace from the localization sequence of Thomason-Trobaugh in K-theory. We also deduce versions of Thomason's blow-up formula and the projective bundle formula for THH and TC.

The smash product for derived categories in stable homotopy theory

An E_1 (or A-infinity) ring spectrum R has a derived category of modules D_R. An E_2 structure on R endows D_R with a monoidal product. An E_3 structure on R endows the monoidal product with a braiding. If the E_3 structure extends to an E_4 structure then the braided monoidal product is symmetric monoidal.

Homology of E_n Ring Spectra and Iterated THH

We describe an iterable construction of THH for an E_n ring spectrum. The reduced version is an iterable bar construction and its n-th iterate gives a model for the shifted cotangent complex at the augmentation, representing reduced topological Quillen homology of an augmented E_n algebra.

Derived Koszul Duality and Involutions in the Algebraic K-Theory of Spaces

We interpret different constructions of the algebraic $K$-theory of spaces as an instance of derived Koszul (or bar) duality and also as an instance of Morita equivalence. We relate the interplay between these two descriptions to the homotopy involution. We define a geometric analog of the Swan theory $G^{\bZ}(\bZ[π])$ in terms of $Σ^{\infty}_{+} ΩX$ and show that it is the algebraic $K$-theory of the $E_{\infty}$ ring spectrum $DX=S^{X_{+}}$.

Algebraic K-theory and abstract homotopy theory

We decompose the K-theory space of a Waldhausen category in terms of its Dwyer-Kan simplicial localization. This leads to a criterion for functors to induce equivalences of K-theory spectra that generalizes and explains many of the criteria appearing in the literature. We show that under mild hypotheses, a weakly exact functor that induces an equivalence of homotopy categories induces an equivalence of K-theory spectra.

An Inverse K-Theory Functor

Thomason showed that the K-theory of symmetric monoidal categories models all connective spectra. This paper describes a new construction of a permutative category from a Gamma-space, which is then used to re-prove Thomason's theorem and a non-completed variant.

The localization sequence for the algebraic K-theory of topological K-theory

We prove a conjecture of Rognes by establishing a localization cofiber sequence of spectra, K(Z) to K(ku) to K(KU) to Sigma K(Z), for the algebraic K-theory of topological K-theory. We deduce the existence of this sequence as a consequence of a devissage theorem identifying the K-theory of the Waldhausen category of Postnikov towers of modules over a connective A-infinity ring spectrum R with the Quillen K-theory of the abelian category of finitely generated pi_0(R)-modules.

Modules in Monoidal Model Categories

This paper studies the existence of and compatibility between derived change of ring, balanced product, and function module derived functors on module categories in monoidal model categories.

Equivariant Universal Coefficient and Kunneth Spectral Sequences

We construct hyper-homology spectral sequences of Z-graded and ROG-graded Mackey functors for Ext and Tor over G-equivariant S-algebras (A-infty ring spectra) for finite groups G. These specialize to universal coefficient and Kunneth spectral sequences.

Homology and Cohomology of E-infinity Ring Spectra

Every homology or cohomology theory on a category of E-infinity ring spectra is Topological Andre-Quillen homology or cohomology with appropriate coefficients. Analogous results hold for the category of A-infinity ring spectra and for categories of algebras over many other operads.

Cochains and Homotopy Type

Finite type nilpotent spaces are weakly equivalent if and only if their singular cochains are quasi-isomorphic as E-infinity algebras. The cochain functor from the homotopy category of finite type nilpotent spaces to the homotopy category of E-infinity algebras is faithful but not full.
