Elements (functions) that are universal with respect to a minimal system

We call an element $U$ conditionally universal for a sequential convergence space $\mathbfΩ$ with respect to a minimal system $\{φ_n\}_{n=1}^\infty$ in a continuously and densely embedded Banach space $\mathcal{X}\hookrightarrow\mathbfΩ$ if the partial sums of its phase-modified Fourier series is dense in $\mathbfΩ$. We will call the element $U$ almost universal if the change of phases (signs) needs to be performed only on a thin subset of Fourier coefficients. In this paper we prove the existence of an almost universal element under certain assumptions on the system $\{φ_n\}_{n=1}^\infty$. We will call a function $U$ asymptotically conditionally universal in a space $L^1(\mathcal{M})$ if the partial sums of its phase-modified Fourier series is dense in $L^1(F_m)$ for an ever-growing sequence of subsets $F_m\subset\mathcal{M}$ with asymptotically null complement. Here we prove the existence of such functions $U$ under certain assumptions on the system $\{φ_n\}_{n=1}^\infty$. Moreover, we show that every integrable function can be slightly modified to yield such a function $U$. In particular, we establish the existence of almost universal functions for $L^p([0,1])$, $p\in(0,1)$, and asymptotically conditionally universal functions for $L^1([0,1])$, with respect to the trigonometric system.

Semi-classical pseudo-differential operators on $\hbar\mathbb{Z}^n$ and applications

In this paper we consider the semiclassical version of pseudo-differential operators on the lattice space $\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n$. The current work is an extension of a previous work and agrees with it in the limit of the parameter $\hbar \rightarrow 1$. The various representations of the operators will be studied as well as the composition, transpose, adjoint and the link between ellipticity and parametrix of operators. We also give the conditions for the $\ell^p(\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n)$, weighted $\ell^2(\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n)$ boundedness and $\ell^p(\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n)$ compactness of operators. We investigate the relation between the classical and semi-classical quantization and employ its applications to Schatten-Von Neumann classes on $\ell^2( \hbar \mathbb{Z}^n)$. We establish Gårding and sharp Gårding inequalities, with an application to the well-posedness of parabolic equations on the lattice $\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n$. Finally we verify that in the limiting case where $\hbar \rightarrow 0$ the semi-classical calculus of pseudo-differential operators recovers the classical Euclidean calculus, but with a twist.

Asymptotic estimates for the growth of deformed Hankel transform by modulus of continuity

We derive asymptotic estimates for the growth of the norm of the deformed Hankel transform on the deformed Hankel--Lipschitz space defined via a generalised modulus of continuity. The established results are similar in nature to the well-known Titchmarsh theorem, which provide a characterization of the square integrable functions satisfying certain Cauchy--Lipschitz condition in terms of an asymptotic estimate for the growth of the norm of their Fourier transform. We also give some necessary conditions in terms of the generalised modulus of continuity for the boundedness of the Dunkl transform of functions in Dunkl-Lipschitz spaces, improving the Hausdorff-Young inequality for the Dunkl transform in this special scenario.

Inverse problem of determining time-dependent leading coefficient in the time-fractional heat equation

In this paper, we investigate direct and inverse problems for the time-fractional heat equation with a time-dependent leading coefficient for positive operators. First, we consider the direct problem, and the unique existence of the generalized solution is established. We also deduce some regularity results. Here, our proofs are based on the eigenfunction expansion method. Second, we study the inverse problem of determining the leading coefficient, and the well-posedness of this inverse problem is proved.

Best constants in subelliptic fractional Sobolev and Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities and ground states on stratified Lie groups

In this paper, we establish the sharp fractional subelliptic Sobolev inequalities and Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequalities on stratified Lie groups. The best constants are given in terms of a ground state solution of a fractional subelliptic equation involving the fractional $p$-sublaplacian ($1<p<\infty$) on stratified Lie groups. We also prove the existence of ground state (least energy) solutions to nonlinear subelliptic fractional Schrödinger equation on stratified Lie groups. Different from the proofs of analogous results in the setting of classical Sobolev spaces on Euclidean spaces given by Weinstein (Comm. Math. Phys. 87(4):576-676 (1982/1983)) using the rearrangement inequality which is not available in stratified Lie groups, we apply a subelliptic version of vanishing lemma due to Lions extended in the setting of stratified Lie groups combining it with the compact embedding theorem for subelliptic fractional Sobolev spaces obtained in our previous paper (Math. Ann. (2023)). We also present subelliptic fractional logarithmic Sobolev inequalities with explicit constants on stratified Lie groups. The main results are new for $p=2$ even in the context of the Heisenberg group.

Heat Source Determining Inverse Problem for non-local in time equation

In this paper, we consider the inverse problem of determining the time-dependent source term in the general setting of Hilbert spaces and for general additional data. We prove the well-posedness of this inverse problem by reducing the problem to an operator equation for the source function.

Anisotropic weighted Levin-Cochran-Lee type inequalities on homogeneous Lie groups

In this paper, we first prove the weighted Levin-Cochran-Lee type inequalities on homogeneous Lie groups for arbitrary weights, quasi-norms, and $L^p$-and $L^q$-norms. Then, we derive a sharp weighted inequality involving specific weights given in the form of quasi-balls in homogeneous Lie groups. Finally, we also calculate the sharp constants for the aforementioned inequalities.

Discrete time-dependent wave equation for the Schrödinger operator with unbounded potential

In this article, we investigate the semiclassical version of the wave equation for the discrete Schrödinger operator, $\mathcal{H}_{\hbar,V}:=-\hbar^{-2}\mathcal{L}_{\hbar}+V$ on the lattice $\hbar\mathbb{Z}^{n},$ where $\mathcal{L}_{\hbar}$ is the discrete Laplacian, and $V$ is a non-negative multiplication operator. We prove that $\mathcal{H}_{\hbar,V}$ has a purely discrete spectrum when the potential $V$ satisfies the condition $|V(k)|\to \infty$ as $|k|\to\infty$. We also show that the Cauchy problem with regular coefficients is well-posed in the associated Sobolev type spaces and very weakly well-posed for distributional coefficients. Finally, we recover the classical solution as well as the very weak solution in certain Sobolev type spaces as the limit of the semiclassical parameter $\hbar\to 0$.

Semi-sparsity on Piecewise Constant Function Spaces for Triangular Mesh Denoising

We present a semi-sparsity model for 3D triangular mesh denoising, which is motivated by the success of semi-sparsity regularization in image processing applications. We demonstrate that such a regularization model can be also applied for graphic processing and gives rise to similar simultaneous-fitting results in preserving sharp features and piece-wise smoothing surfaces. Specifically, we first describe the piecewise constant function spaces associated with the differential operators on triangular meshes and then show how to extend the semi-sparsity model to meshes denoising. To verify its effectiveness, we present an efficient iterative algorithm based on the alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) technique and show the experimental results on synthetic and real scanning data against the state-of-the-arts both visually and quantitatively.

Discrete Heat Equation with irregular thermal conductivity and tempered distributional data

In this paper, we consider a semi-classical version of the nonhomogeneous heat equation with singular time-dependent coefficients on the lattice $\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n$. We establish the well-posedeness of such Cauchy equations in the classical sense when regular coefficients are considered, and analyse how the notion of very weak solution adapts in such equations when distributional coefficients are regarded. We prove the well-posedness of both the classical and the very weak solution in the weighted spaces $\ell^{2}_{s}(\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n)$, $s \in \mathbb{R}$, which is enough to prove the well-posedness in the space of tempered distributions $\mathcal{S}'(\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n)$. Notably, when $s=0$, we show that for $\hbar \rightarrow 0$, the classical (resp. very weak) solution of the heat equation in the Euclidean setting $\mathbb{R}^n$ is recaptured by the classical (resp. very weak) solution of it in the semi-classical setting $\hbar \mathbb{Z}^n$.

Subelliptic pseudo-differential operators and Fourier integral operators on compact Lie groups

In this memoir we extend the theory of global pseudo-differential operators to the setting of arbitrary sub-Riemannian structures on a compact Lie group. More precisely, given a compact Lie group $G$, and the sub-Laplacian $\mathcal{L}$ associated to a system of vector fields $X=\{X_1,\cdots,X_k\}$ satisfying the Hörmander condition, we introduce a (subelliptic) pseudo-differential calculus associated to $\mathcal{L},$ based on the matrix-valued quantisation process developed in [138]. This theory will be developed as follows. First, we will investigate the singular kernels of this calculus, estimates of $L^p$-$L^p$, $H^1$-$L^1$, $L^\infty$-$BMO$ type and also the weak (1,1) boundedness of these subelliptic Hörmander classes. Between the obtained estimates we prove subelliptic versions of the celebrated sharp Fefferman $L^p$-theorem and the Calderón-Vaillancourt theorem. The obtained estimates will be used to establish the boundedness of subelliptic operators on subelliptic Sobolev and Besov spaces. We will investigate the ellipticity, the construction of parametrices, the heat traces and the regularisation of traces for the developed subelliptic calculus. A subelliptic global functional calculus will be established as well as a subelliptic version of Hulanicki theorem. The approach established in characterising our subelliptic Hörmander classes (by proving that the definition of these classes is independent of certain parameters) will be also applied in order to characterise the global Hörmander classes on arbitrary graded Lie groups developed in [90].

Compact Embeddings, Eigenvalue Problems, and subelliptic Brezis-Nirenberg equations involving singularity on stratified Lie groups

The purpose of this paper is twofold: first we study an eigenvalue problem for the fractional $p$-sub-Laplacian over the fractional Folland-Stein-Sobolev spaces on stratified Lie groups. We apply variational methods to investigate the eigenvalue problems. We conclude the positivity of the first eigenfunction via the strong minimum principle for the fractional $p$-sub-Laplacian. Moreover, we deduce that the first eigenvalue is simple and isolated. Secondly, utilising established properties, we prove the existence of at least two weak solutions via the Nehari manifold technique to a class of subelliptic singular problems associated with the fractional $p$-sub-Laplacian on stratified Lie groups. We also investigate the boundedness of positive weak solutions to the considered problem via the Moser iteration technique. The results obtained here are also new even for the case $p=2$ with $\mathbb{G}$ being the Heisenberg group.

Fujita-type results for the degenerate parabolic equations on the Heisenberg groups

In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem for the degenerate parabolic equations on the Heisenberg groups with power law non-linearities. We obtain Fujita-type critical exponents, which depend on the homogeneous dimension of the Heisenberg groups. The analysis includes the case of porous medium equations. Our proof approach is based on methods of nonlinear capacity estimates specifically adapted to the nature of the Heisenberg groups. We also use the Kaplan eigenfunctions method in combination with the Hopf-type lemma on the Heisenberg groups.

Instantaneous blow up solutions for nonlinear Sobolev type equations on the Heisenberg Group

In this paper, we study the nonlinear Sobolev type equations on the Heisenberg group. We show that the problems do not admit nontrivial local weak solutions, i.e. "instantaneous blow up" occurs, using the nonlinear capacity method. Namely, by choosing suitable test functions, we will prove an instantaneous blow up for any initial conditions $u_0,\,u_1\in L^q(\mathbb{H}^n)$ with $q\leq \frac{Q}{Q-2}$.

Liouville type theorems for subelliptic systems on the Heisenberg group with general nonlinearity

In this paper, we establish Liouville type results for semilinear subelliptic systems associated with the sub-Laplacian on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ involving two different kinds of general nonlinearities. The main technique of the proof is the method of moving planes combined with some integral inequalities replacing the role of maximum principles. As a special case, we obtain the Liouville theorem for the Lane-Emden system on the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^{n}$, which also appears to be a new result in the literature.

Semi-Sparsity for Smoothing Filters

In this paper, we propose an interesting semi-sparsity smoothing algorithm based on a novel sparsity-inducing optimization framework. This method is derived from the multiple observations that semi-sparsity prior knowledge is more universally applicable, especially in areas where sparsity is not fully admitted, such as polynomial-smoothing surfaces. We illustrate that this semi-sparsity can be identified into a generalized $L_0$-norm minimization in higher-order gradient domains, thereby giving rise to a new "feature-aware" filtering method with a powerful simultaneous-fitting ability in both sparse features (singularities and sharpening edges) and non-sparse regions (polynomial-smoothing surfaces). Notice that a direct solver is always unavailable due to the non-convexity and combinatorial nature of $L_0$-norm minimization. Instead, we solve the model based on an efficient half-quadratic splitting minimization with fast Fourier transforms (FFTs) for acceleration. We finally demonstrate its versatility and many benefits to a series of signal/image processing and computer vision applications.

Heat equation with singular thermal conductivity

In this paper, we study the heat equation with an irregular spatially dependent thermal conductivity coefficient. We prove that it has a solution in an appropriate very weak sense. Moreover, the uniqueness result and consistency with the classical solution if the latter exists are shown. Indeed, we allow the coefficient to be a distribution with a toy example of a Delta-function.
