Generalizing the autonomous Kepler Ermakov system in a Riemannian space

We generalize the two dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian Kepler Ermakov dynamical system to three dimensions using the sl(2,R) invariance of Noether symmetries and determine all three dimensional autonomous Hamiltonian Kepler Ermakov dynamical systems which are Liouville integrable via Noether symmetries. Subsequently we generalize the autonomous Kepler Ermakov system in a Riemannian space which admits a gradient homothetic vector by the requirements (a) that it admits a first integral (the Riemannian Ermakov invariant) and (b) it has sl(2,R) invariance. We consider both the non-Hamiltonian and the Hamiltonian systems. In each case we compute the Riemannian Ermakov invariant and the equations defining the dynamical system. We apply the results in General Relativity and determine the autonomous Hamiltonian Riemannian Kepler Ermakov system in the spatially flat Friedman Robertson Walker spacetime. We consider a locally rotational symmetric (LRS) spacetime of class A and discuss two cosmological models. The first cosmological model consists of a scalar field with exponential potential and a perfect fluid with a stiff equation of state. The second cosmological model is the f(R) modified gravity model of Λ_{bc}CDM. It is shown that in both applications the gravitational field equations reduce to those of the generalized autonomous Riemannian Kepler Ermakov dynamical system which is Liouville integrable via Noether integrals.

Three fluid cosmological model using Lie and Noether symmetries

We employ a three fluid model in order to construct a cosmological model in the Friedmann Robertson Walker flat spacetime, which contains three types of matter dark energy, dark matter and a perfect fluid with a linear equation of state. Dark matter is described by dust and dark energy with a scalar field with potential V(ϕ). In order to fix the scalar field potential we demand Lie symmetry invariance of the field equations, which is a model-independent assumption. The requirement of an extra Lie symmetry selects the exponential scalar field potential. The further requirement that the analytic solution is invariant under the point transformation generated by the Lie symmetry eliminates dark matter and leads to a quintessence and a phantom cosmological model containing a perfect fluid and a scalar field. Next we assume that the Lagrangian of the system admits an extra Noether symmetry. This new assumption selects the scalar field potential to be exponential and forces the perfect fluid to be stiff. Furthermore the existence of the Noether integral allows for the integration of the dynamical equations. We find new analytic solutions to quintessence and phantom cosmologies which contain all three fluids. Using these solutions one is able to compute analytically all main cosmological functions, such as the scale factor, the scalar field, the Hubble expansion rate, the deceleration parameter etc.

Two dimensional dynamical systems which admit Lie and Noether symmetries

We prove two theorems which relate the Lie point symmetries and the Noether symmetries of a dynamical system moving in a Riemannian space with the special projective group and the homothetic group of the space respectively. The theorems are applied to classify the two dimensional Newtonian dynamical systems, which admit a Lie point/Noether symmetry. Two cases are considered, the non-conservative and the conservative forces. The use of the results is demonstrated for the Kepler - Ermakov system, which in general is non-conservative and for potentials similar to the Hènon Heiles potential. Finally it is shown that in a FRW background with no matter present, the only scalar cosmological model which is integrable is the one for which 3-space is flat and the potential function of the scalar field is exponential. It is important to note that in all applications the generators of the symmetry vectors are found by reading the appropriate entry in the relevant tables.

Lie and Noether symmetries of geodesic equations and collineations

The Lie symmetries of the geodesic equations in a Riemannian space are computed in terms of the special projective group and its degenerates (affine vectors, homothetic vector and Killing vectors) of the metric. The Noether symmetries of the same equations are given in terms of the homothetic and the Killing vectors of the metric. It is shown that the geodesic equations in a Riemannian space admit three linear first integrals and two quadratic first integrals. We apply the results in the case of Einstein spaces, the Schwarzschild spacetime and the Friedman Robertson Walker spacetime. In each case the Lie and the Noether symmetries are computed explicitly together with the corresponding linear and quadratic first integrals.

Ricci and matter collineations of locally rotationally symmetric space-times

A new method is presented for the determination of Ricci Collineations (RC) and Matter Collineations (MC) of a given spacetime, in the cases where the Ricci tensor and the energy momentum tensor are non-degenerate and have a similar form with the metric. This method reduces the problem of finding the RCs and the MCs to that of determining the KVs whereas at the same time uses already known results on the motions of the metric. We employ this method to determine all hypersurface homogeneous locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes, which admit proper RCs and MCs. We also give the corresponding collineation vectors.

Geometric equations of state in Friedmann-Lemaître universes admitting matter and Ricci Collineations

As a rule in General Relativity the spacetime metric fixes the Einstein tensor and through the Field Equations (FE) the energy-momentum tensor. However one cannot write the FE explicitly until a class of observers has been considered. Every class of observers defines a decomposition of the energy-momentum tensor in terms of the dynamical variables energy density ($μ$), the isotropic pressure ($p$), the heat flux $q^a$ and the traceless anisotropic pressure tensor $π_{ab}$. The solution of the FE requires additional assumptions among the dynamical variables known with the generic name equations of state. These imply that the properties of the matter for a given class of observers depends not only on the energy-momentum tensor but on extra a priori assumptions which are relevant to that particular class of observers. This makes difficult the comparison of the Physics observed by different classes of observers for the {\it same} spacetime metric. One way to overcome this unsatisfactory situation is to define the extra condition required among the dynamical variables by a geometric condition, which will be based on the metric and not to the observers. Among the possible and multiple conditions one could use the consideration of collineations. We examine this possibility for the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker models admitting matter and Ricci collineations and determine the equations of state for the comoving observers. We find linear and non-linear equations of state, which lead to solutions satisfying the energy conditions, therefore describing physically viable cosmological models.

Self-similar Bianchi type VIII and IX models

It is shown that in transitively self-similar spatially homogeneous tilted perfect fluid models the symmetry vector is not normal to the surfaces of spatial homogeneity. A direct consequence of this result is that there are no self-similar Bianchi VIII and IX tilted perfect fluid models. Furthermore the most general Bianchi VIII and IX spacetime which admit a four dimensional group of homotheties is given.

Hypersurface homogeneous locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes admitting conformal symmetries

All hypersurface homogeneous locally rotationally symmetric spacetimes which admit conformal symmetries are determined and the symmetry vectors are given explicitly. It is shown that these spacetimes must be considered in two sets. One set containing Ellis Class II and the other containing Ellis Class I, III LRS spacetimes. The determination of the conformal algebra in the first set is achieved by systematizing and completing results on the determination of CKVs in 2+2 decomposable spacetimes. In the second set new methods are developed. The results are applied to obtain the classification of the conformal algebra of all static LRS spacetimes in terms of geometrical variables. Furthermore all perfect fluid nontilted LRS spacetimes which admit proper conformal symmetries are determined and the physical properties some of them are discussed.

Note on Matter Collineations in Kantowski-Sachs, Bianchi Types I and III Spacetimes

We show that the classification of Kantowski-Sachs, Bianchi Types I and III spacetimes admitting Matter Collineations (MCs) presented in a recent paper by Camci et al. [Camci, U., and Sharif, M. {Matter Collineations in Kantowski-Sachs, Bianchi Types I and III Spacetimes}, 2003 Gen. Relativ. Grav. vol. 35, 97-109] is incomplete. Furthermore for these spacetimes and when the Einstein tensor is non-degenerate, we give the complete Lie Algebra of MCs and the algebraic constraints on the spatial components of the Einstein tensor.

The computation of the Conformal Killing Vectors of an 1+(n-1) decomposable metric

A generalisation of a known theorem concerning the computation of the conformal algebra in 1+(n-1) decomposable spaces is presented. It is shown that the general form of Conformal Vector Fields (CVF) is the sum of a gradient CVF and a Killing or Homothetic (n-1)-vector. A simple criterion is established which enables one to check if a 1+(n-1) decomposable spacetime admits proper CVF. As an example, the complete conformal algebra of a Gödel-type spacetime is computed.

Ricci and Matter inheritance collineations of Robertson-Walker space-times

It is well known that every Killing vector is a Ricci and Matter collineation. Therefore the metric, the Ricci tensor and the energy-momentum tensor are all members of a large family of second order symmetric tensors which are invariant under a common group of symmetries. This family is described by a generic metric which is defined from the symmetry group of the space-time metric. The proper Ricci and Matter (inheritance) collineations are the (conformal) Killing vectors of the generic metric which are not (conformal) Killing vectors of the space-time metric. Using this observation we compute the Ricci and Matter inheritance collineations of the Robertson-Walker space-times and we determine the Ricci and Matter collineations without any further calculations. It is shown that these higher order symmetries can be used as supplementary conditions to produce an equation of state which is compatible with the Geometry and the Physics of the Robertson-Walker space-times.

Comment on Ricci Collineations for spherically symmetric space-times

It is shown that the results of the paper by Contreras et al. [Contreras, G., Nunez, L. A., Percoco, U. "Ricci Collineations for Non-degenerate, Diagonal and Spherically Symmetric Ricci Tensors" (2000) Gen. Rel. Grav. 32, 285-294] concerning the Ricci Collineations in spherically symmetric space-times with non-degenerate and diagonal Ricci tensor do not cover all possible cases. Furthermore the complete algebra of Ricci Collineations of certain Robertson-Walker metrics of vanishing spatial curvature are given.

Symmetries of Bianchi I space-times

All diagonal proper Bianchi I space-times are determined which admit certain important symmetries. It is shown that for Homotheties, Conformal motions and Kinematic Self-Similarities the resulting space-times are defined explicitly in terms of a set of parameters whereas Affine Collineations, Ricci Collineations and Curvature Collineations, if they are admitted, they determine the metric modulo certain algebraic conditions. In all cases the symmetry vectors are explicitly computed. The physical and the geometrical consequences of the results are discussed and a new anisitropic fluid, physically valid solution which admits a proper conformal Killing vector, is given.

Computation of the conformal algebra of 1+3 decomposable spacetimes

The conformal algebra of a 1+3 decomposable spacetime can be computed from the conformal Killing vectors (CKV) of the 3-space. It is shown that the general form of such a 3-CKV is the sum of a gradient CKV and a Killing or homothetic 3-vector. It is proved that spaces of constant curvature always admit such conformal Killing vectors. As an example, the complete conformal algebra of a Gödel-type spacetime is computed. Finally it is shown that this method can be extended to compute the conformal algebra of more general non-decomposable spacetimes.
