Modified Macdonald polynomials and integrability

We derive combinatorial formulae for the modified Macdonald polynomial $H_λ(x;q,t)$ using coloured paths on a square lattice with quasi-cylindrical boundary conditions. The derivation is based on an integrable model associated to the quantum group of $U_{q}(\wide{sl}_{n+1})$.

Nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials via integrable vertex models

Starting from an integrable rank-$n$ vertex model, we construct an explicit family of partition functions indexed by compositions $μ= (μ_1,\dots,μ_n)$. Using the Yang-Baxter algebra of the model and a certain rotation operation that acts on our partition functions, we show that they are eigenfunctions of the Cherednik-Dunkl operators $Y_i$ for all $1 \leq i \leq n$, and are thus equal to nonsymmetric Macdonald polynomials $E_μ$. Our partition functions have the combinatorial interpretation of ensembles of coloured lattice paths which traverse a cylinder. Applying a simple bijection to such path ensembles, we show how to recover the well-known combinatorial formula for $E_μ$ due to Haglund-Haiman-Loehr.

Coloured stochastic vertex models and their spectral theory

This work is dedicated to $\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1}$-related integrable stochastic vertex models; we call such models coloured. We prove several results about these models, which include the following: (1) We construct the basis of (rational) eigenfunctions of the coloured transfer-matrices as partition functions of our lattice models with certain boundary conditions. Similarly, we construct a dual basis and prove the corresponding orthogonality relations and Plancherel formulae; (2) We derive a variety of combinatorial properties of those eigenfunctions, such as branching rules, exchange relations under Hecke divided-difference operators, (skew) Cauchy identities of different types, and monomial expansions; (3) We show that our eigenfunctions are certain (non-obvious) reductions of the nested Bethe Ansatz eigenfunctions; (4) For models in a quadrant with domain-wall (or half-Bernoulli) boundary conditions, we prove a matching relation that identifies the distribution of the coloured height function at a point with the distribution of the height function along a line in an associated colour-blind ($\mathfrak{sl}_2$-related) stochastic vertex model. Thanks to a variety of known results about asymptotics of height functions of the colour-blind models, this implies a similar variety of limit theorems for the coloured height function of our models; (5) We demonstrate how the coloured-uncoloured match degenerates to the coloured (or multi-species) versions of the ASEP, $q$-PushTASEP, and the $q$-boson model; (6) We show how our eigenfunctions relate to non-symmetric Cherednik-Macdonald theory, and we make use of this connection to prove a probabilistic matching result by applying Cherednik-Dunkl operators to the corresponding non-symmetric Cauchy identity.

Spin $q$-Whittaker polynomials

We introduce and study a one-parameter generalization of the q-Whittaker symmetric functions. This is a family of multivariate symmetric polynomials, whose construction may be viewed as an application of the procedure of fusion from integrable lattice models to a vertex model interpretation of a one-parameter generalization of Hall-Littlewood polynomials from [Bor17, BP16a, BP16b]. We prove branching and Pieri rules, standard and dual (skew) Cauchy summation identities, and an integral representation for the new polynomials.

Between the stochastic six vertex model and Hall-Littlewood processes

We prove that the joint distribution of the values of the height function for the stochastic six vertex model in a quadrant along a down-right path coincides with that for the lengths of the first columns of partitions distributed according to certain Hall-Littlewood processes. In the limit when one of the quadrant axes becomes continuous, we also show that the two-dimensional random field of the height function values has the same distribution as the lengths of the first columns of partitions from certain ascending Hall-Littlewood processes evolving under a Robinson-Schensted-Knuth type Markovian evolution.

Littlewood-Richardson coefficients for Grothendieck polynomials from integrability

We study the Littlewood-Richardson coefficients of double Grothendieck polynomials indexed by Grassmannian permutations. Geometrically, these are the structure constants of the equivariant $K$-theory ring of Grassmannians. Representing the double Grothendieck polynomials as partition functions of an integrable vertex model, we use its Yang-Baxter equation to derive a series of product rules for the former polynomials and their duals. The Littlewood-Richardson coefficients that arise can all be expressed in terms of puzzles without gashes, which generalize previous puzzles obtained by Knutson-Tao and Vakil.

A new generalisation of Macdonald polynomials

We introduce a new family of symmetric multivariate polynomials, whose coefficients are meromorphic functions of two parameters $(q,t)$ and polynomial in a further two parameters $(u,v)$. We evaluate these polynomials explicitly as a matrix product. At $u=v=0$ they reduce to Macdonald polynomials, while at $q=0$, $u=v=s$ they recover a family of inhomogeneous symmetric functions originally introduced by Borodin.

Hall polynomials, inverse Kostka polynomials and puzzles

We study two different one-parameter generalizations of Littlewood--Richardson coefficients, namely Hall polynomials and generalized inverse Kostka polynomials, and derive new combinatorial formulae for them. Our combinatorial expressions are closely related to puzzles, originally introduced by Knutson and Tao in their work on the equivariant cohomology of the Grassmannian.

Matrix product and sum rule for Macdonald polynomials

We present a new, explicit sum formula for symmetric Macdonald polynomials $P_λ$ and show that they can be written as a trace over a product of (infinite dimensional) matrices. These matrices satisfy the Zamolodchikov--Faddeev (ZF) algebra. We construct solutions of the ZF algebra from a rank-reduced version of the Yang--Baxter algebra. As a corollary, we find that the normalization of the stationary measure of the multi-species asymmetric exclusion process is a Macdonald polynomial with all variables set equal to one.

Refined Cauchy/Littlewood identities and six-vertex model partition functions: III. Deformed bosons

We study Hall-Littlewood polynomials using an integrable lattice model of $t$-deformed bosons. Working with row-to-row transfer matrices, we review the construction of Hall-Littlewood polynomials (of the $A_n$ root system) within the framework of this model. Introducing appropriate double-row transfer matrices, we extend this formalism to Hall-Littlewood polynomials based on the $BC_n$ root system, and obtain a new combinatorial formula for them. We then apply our methods to prove a series of refined Cauchy and Littlewood identities involving Hall-Littlewood polynomials. The last two of these identities are new, and relate infinite sums over hyperoctahedrally symmetric Hall-Littlewood polynomials with partition functions of the six-vertex model on finite domains.

Matrix product formula for Macdonald polynomials

We derive a matrix product formula for symmetric Macdonald polynomials. Our results are obtained by constructing polynomial solutions of deformed Knizhnik--Zamolodchikov equations, which arise by considering representations of the Zamolodchikov--Faddeev and Yang--Baxter algebras in terms of $t$-deformed bosonic operators. These solutions form a basis of the ring of polynomials in $n$ variables, whose elements are indexed by compositions. For weakly increasing compositions (anti-dominant weights), these basis elements coincide with non-symmetric Macdonald polynomials. Our formulas imply a natural combinatorial interpretation in terms of solvable lattice models. They also imply that normalisations of stationary states of multi-species exclusion processes are obtained as Macdonald polynomials at $q=1$.

A summation formula for Macdonald polynomials

We derive an explicit sum formula for symmetric Macdonald polynomials. Our expression contains multiple sums over the symmetric group and uses the action of Hecke generators on the ring of polynomials. In the special cases $t=1$ and $q=0$, we recover known expressions for the monomial symmetric and Hall-Littlewood polynomials, respectively. Other specializations of our formula give new expressions for the Jack and $q$-Whittaker polynomials.

Refined Cauchy and Littlewood identities, plane partitions and symmetry classes of alternating sign matrices

We prove and conjecture some new symmetric function identities, which equate the generating series of 1. Plane partitions, subject to certain restrictions and weightings, and 2. Alternating sign matrices, subject to certain symmetry properties. The left hand side of each of our identities is a simple refinement of a relevant Cauchy or Littlewood identity, allowing them to be interpreted as generating series for plane partitions. The right hand side of each identity is a partition function of the six-vertex model, on a relevant domain. These can be interpreted as generating series for alternating sign matrices, using the well known bijection with six-vertex model configurations.
