Clifford algebras, meson algebras and higher order generalisations

We analyse the homogeneous parts of Clifford and meson algebras and point out that for the Clifford algebra it is related to fermionic statistics, that is, to fermionic parastatistics of order 1 while for the meson algebra it is related to fermionic parastatistics of order 2. We extend these homogeneous algebras into corresponding algebras related to fermionic parastatistics of all orders. We then define correspondingly higher order generalizations of Clifford and meson algebras.

Quadratic algebras associated with exterior 3-forms

This paper is devoted to the study of the quadratic algebras with relations generated by superpotentials which are exterior 3-forms. Such an algebra is regular if and only if it is Koszul and is then a 3-Calabi-Yau domain. After some general results we investigate the case of the algebras generated in low dimensions $n$ with $n\leq 7$. We show that whenever the ground field is algebraically closed all these algebras associated with 3-regular exterior 3-forms are regular and are thus 3-Calabi-Yau domains. This result does not generalize to dimensions $n$ with $n\geq 8$ : we describe a counter example in dimension $n=8$.

Superconnection in the spin factor approach to particle physics

The notion of superconnection devised by Quillen in 1985 and used in gauge-Higgs field theory in the 1990's is applied to the spin factors (finite-dimensional euclidean Jordan algebras) recently considered as representing the finite quantum geometry of one generation of fermions in the Standard Model of particle physics.

Quadratic differential algebras generated by Euclidean spaces

We define a class of quadratic differential algebras which are generated as differential graded algebras by the elements of an Euclidean space. Such a differential algebra is a differential calculus over the quadratic algebra of its elements of differential degree zero. This generalizes for arbitrary quadratic algebras the differential graded algebra of exterior polynomial differential forms for the algebra of polynomial functions on $\mathbb R^n$. We investigate the structure of these differential algebras and their connection with the Koszul complexes of quadratic algebras.

Exceptional quantum geometry and particle physics II

We continue the study undertaken in [13] of the relevance of the exceptional Jordan algebra $J^8_3$ of hermitian $3\times 3$ octonionic matrices for the description of the internal space of the fundamental fermions of the Standard Model with 3 generations. By using the suggestion of [30] (properly justified here) that the Jordan algebra $J^8_2$ of hermitian $2\times 2$ octonionic matrices is relevant for the description of the internal space of the fundamental fermions of one generation, we show that, based on the same principles and the same framework as in [13], there is a way to describe the internal space of the 3 generations which avoids the introduction of new fundamental fermions and where there is no problem with respect to the electroweak symmetry.

Deducing the symmetry of the standard model from the automorphism and structure groups of the exceptional Jordan algebra

We continue the study undertaken in \cite{DV} of the exceptional Jordan algebra $J = J_3^8$ as (part of) the finite-dimensional quantum algebra in an almost classical space-time approach to particle physics. Along with reviewing known properties of $J$ and of the associated exceptional Lie groups we argue that the symmetry of the model can be deduced from the Borel-de Siebenthal theory of maximal connected subgroups of simple compact Lie groups.

Principal fibrations over noncommutative spheres

We present examples of noncommutative four-spheres that are base spaces of $SU(2)$-principal bundles with noncommutative seven-spheres as total spaces. The noncommutative coordinate algebras of the four-spheres are generated by the entries of a projection which is invariant under the action of $SU(2)$. We give conditions for the components of the Connes--Chern character of the projection to vanish but the second (the top) one. The latter is then a non zero Hochschild cycle that plays the role of the volume form for the noncommutative four-spheres.

Differential calculus on Jordan algebra and Jordan modules

Having in mind applications to particle physics we develop the differential calculus over Jordan algebras and the theory of connections on Jordan modules. In particular we focus on differential calculus over the exceptional Jordan algebra and provide a complete characterization of the theory of connections for free Jordan modules.

Noncommutative Euclidean spaces

We give a definition of noncommutative finite-dimensional Euclidean spaces $\mathbb R^n$. We then remind our definition of noncommutative products of Euclidean spaces $\mathbb R^{N_1}$ and $\mathbb R^{N_2}$ which produces noncommutative Euclidean spaces $\mathbb R^{N_1+N_2}$. We solve completely the conditions defining the noncommutative products of the Euclidean spaces $\mathbb R^{N_1}$ and $\mathbb R^{N_2}$ and prove that the corresponding noncommutative unit spheres $S^{N_1+N_2-1}$ are noncommutative spherical manifolds. We then apply these concepts to define "noncommutative" quaternionic planes and noncommutative quaternionic tori on which acts the classical quaternionic torus $T^2_{\mathbb H}=U_1(\mathbb H)\times U_1(\mathbb H)$

Noncommutative products of Euclidean spaces

We present natural families of coordinate algebras of noncommutative products of Euclidean spaces. These coordinate algebras are quadratic ones associated with an R-matrix which is involutive and satisfies the Yang-Baxter equations. As a consequence they enjoy a list of nice properties, being regular of finite global dimension. Notably, we have eight-dimensional noncommutative euclidean spaces which are particularly well behaved and are deformations parametrised by a two-dimensional sphere. Quotients include noncommutative seven-spheres as well as noncommutative "quaternionic tori". There is invariance for an action of $SU(2) \times SU(2)$ in parallel with the action of $U(1) \times U(1)$ on a "complex" noncommutative torus which allows one to construct quaternionic toric noncommutative manifolds. Additional classes of solutions are disjoint from the classical case.

Exceptional quantum geometry and particle physics

Based on an interpretation of the quark-lepton symmetry in terms of the unimodularity of the color group $SU(3)$ and on the existence of 3 generations, we develop an argumentation suggesting that the "finite quantum space" corresponding to the exceptional real Jordan algebra of dimension 27 (the Euclidean Albert algebra) is relevant for the description of internal spaces in the theory of particles. In particular, the triality which corresponds to the 3 off-diagonal octonionic elements of the exceptional algebra is associated to the 3 generations of the Standard Model while the representation of the octonions as a complex 4-dimensional space $\mathbb C\oplus\mathbb C^3$ is associated to the quark-lepton symmetry, (one complex for the lepton and 3 for the corresponding quark). More generally it is is suggested that the replacement of the algebra of real functions on spacetime by the algebra of functions on spacetime with values in a finite-dimensional Euclidean Jordan algebra which plays the role of "the algebra of real functions" on the corresponding almost classical quantum spacetime is relevant in particle physics. This leads us to study the theory of Jordan modules and to develop the differential calculus over Jordan algebras, (i.e. to introduce the appropriate notion of differential forms). We formulate the corresponding definition of connections on Jordan modules.

Multilinear forms and graded algebras

In this paper we investigate the class of the connected graded algebras which are finitely generated in degree 1, which are finitely presented with relations of degrees greater or equal to 2 and which are of finite global dimension D and Gorenstein. For D greater or equal to 4 we add the condition that these algebras are homogeneous and Koszul. It is shown that each such algebra is completely characterized by a multilinear form satisfying a twisted cyclicity condition and some other nondegeneracy conditions depending on the global dimension D. This multilinear form plays the role of a volume form and canonically identifies in the quadratic case to a nontrivial Hochschild cycle of maximal degree. Several examples including the Yang-Mills algebra and the extended 4-dimensional Sklyanin algebra are analyzed in this context. Actions of quantum groups are also investigated.

Graded algebras and multilinear forms

We give a description of the connected graded algebras which are finitely generated and presented of global dimension 2 or 3 and which are Gorenstein. These algebras are constructed from multilinear forms. We generalize the construction by associating homogeneous algebras to multilinear forms. The homogeneous algebras which are Koszul of finite global dimension and which are Gorenstein are of this type.

The Weil Algebra of a Hopf Algebra - I - A noncommutative framework

We generalize the notion, introduced by Henri Cartan, of an operation of a Lie algebra $\mathfrak g$ in a graded differential algebra $Ω$. We define the notion of an operation of a Hopf algebra $\mathcal H$ in a graded differential algebra $Ω$ which is refered to as a $\mathcal H$-operation. We then generalize for such an operation the notion of algebraic connection. Finally we discuss the corresponding noncommutative version of the Weil algebra: The Weil algebra $W(\mathcal H)$ of the Hopf algebra $\mathcal H$ is the universal initial object of the category of $\mathcal H$-operations with connections.

Poincaré duality for Koszul algebras

We discuss the consequences of the Poincaré duality, versus AS- Gorenstein property, for Koszul algebras (homogeneous and non homogeneous). For homogeneous Koszul algebras, the Poincaré duality property implies the existence of twisted potentials which characterize the corresponding algebras while in the case of quadratic linear Koszul algebras, the Poincaré duality is needed to get a good generalization of universal enveloping algebras of Lie algebras. In the latter case we describe and discuss the corresponding generalization of Lie algebras. We also give a short review of the notion of Koszulity and of the Koszul duality for N-homogeneous algebras and for the corresponding nonhomogeneous versions.

Half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebras

A half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebra is a Hopf *-algebra generated by the self-adjoint coefficients of an orthogonal matrix corepresentation $v=(v_{ij})$ that half commute in the sense that $abc=cba$ for any $a,b,c \in \{v_{ij}\}$. The first non-trivial such Hopf algebras were discovered by Banica and Speicher. We propose a general procedure, based on a crossed product construction, that associates to a self-transpose compact subgroup $G \subset U_n$ a half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebra $\mathcal A_*(G)$. It is shown that any half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebra arises in this way. The fusion rules of $\mathcal A_*(G)$ are expressed in term of those of $G$.
