Association and Load Optimization with User Priorities in Load-Coupled Heterogeneous Networks

In this paper, we consider the network utility maximization problem with various user priorities via jointly optimizing user association, load distribution and power control in a load-coupled heterogeneous network. In order to tackle the nonconvexity of the problem, we first analyze the problem by obtaining the optimal resource allocation strategy in closed form and characterizing the optimal base station load distribution pattern. Both observations are shown essential in simplifying the original problem and making it possible to transform the nonconvex load distribution and power control problem into convex reformulation via exponential variable transformation. An iterative algorithm with low complexity is accordingly presented to obtain a suboptimal solution to the joint optimization problem. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves better performance than conventional approaches.

Resource Allocation for D2D Communications Underlaying a NOMA-Based Cellular Network

This letter investigates the power control and channel assignment problem in device-to-device (D2D) communications underlaying a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) cellular network. With the successive interference cancellation decoding order constraints, our target is to maximize the sum rate of D2D pairs while guaranteeing the minimum rate requirements of NOMA-based cellular users. Specifically, the optimal conditions for power control of cellular users on each subchannel are derived first. Then, based on these results, we propose a dual-based iterative algorithm to solve the resource allocation problem. Simulation results validate the superiority of proposed resource allocation algorithm over the existing orthogonal multiple access scheme.

Pilot Reuse Among D2D Users in D2D Underlaid Massive MIMO Systems

In a device-to-device (D2D) underlaid massive MIMO system, D2D transmitters reuse the uplink spectrum of cellular users (CUs), leading to cochannel interference. To decrease pilot overhead, we assume pilot reuse (PR) among D2D pairs. We first derive the minimum-mean-square-error (MMSE) estimation of all channels and give a lower bound on the ergodic achievable rate of both cellular and D2D links. To mitigate pilot contamination caused by PR, we then propose a pilot scheduling and pilot power control algorithm based on the criterion of minimizing the sum mean-square-error (MSE) of channel estimation of D2D links. We show that, with an appropriate PR ratio and a well designed pilot scheduling scheme, each D2D transmitter could transmit its pilot with maximum power. In addition, we also maximize the sum rate of all D2D links while guaranteeing the quality of service (QoS) of CUs, and develop an iterative algorithm to obtain a suboptimal solution. Simulation results show that the effect of pilot contamination can be greatly decreased by the proposed pilot scheduling algorithm, and the PR scheme provides significant performance gains over the conventional orthogonal training scheme in terms of system spectral efficiency.

Joint Time Allocation and Power Control in Multi-Cell Networks with Load Coupling: Energy Saving and Rate Improvement

In this paper, we consider the problems of minimizing sum power and maximizing sum rate for multi-cell networks with load coupling, where coupling relation occurs among cells due to inter-cell interference. This coupling relation is characterized by the signal-to-interference-and-noise-ratio (SINR) coupling model with cell load vector and cell power vector as the variables. Due to the nonlinear SINR coupling model, the optimization problems for multi-cell networks with load coupling is nonconvex. To solve these nonconvex problems, we first consider the optimization problems for single-cell networks. Through variable transformations, the optimization problems can be equivalently transformed into convex problems. By solving the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT), the optimal solutions to power minimization and rate maximization problems can be obtained in closed form. Based on the theoretical findings of optimization problems for single-cell networks, we develop a distributed time allocation and power control algorithm with low complexity for sum power minimization in multi-cell networks. This algorithm is proved to be convergent and globally optimal by using the properties of standard interference function. For sum rate optimization in multi-cell networks, we also provide a distributed algorithm which yields suboptimal solution. Besides, the convergence for this distributed algorithm is proved. Numerical results illustrate the theoretical findings, showing the superiority of our solutions compared to the conventional solution of allocating uniform power for users in the same cell.

Widely-Linear Precoding for Large-Scale MIMO with IQI: Algorithms and Performance Analysis

In this paper we study widely-linear precoding techniques to mitigate in-phase/quadrature-phase (IQ) imbalance (IQI) in the downlink of large-scale multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. We adopt a real-valued signal model which takes into account the IQI at the transmitter and then develop widely-linear zero-forcing (WL-ZF), widely-linear matched filter (WL-MF), widely-linear minimum mean-squared error (WL-MMSE) and widely-linear block-diagonalization (WL-BD) type precoding algorithms for both {\color{red} single- and multiple-antenna users.} We also present a performance analysis of WL-ZF and WL-BD. It is proved that without IQI, WL-ZF has exactly the same multiplexing gain and power offset as ZF, while when IQI exists, WL-ZF achieves the same multiplexing gain as ZF with ideal IQ branches, but with a minor power loss which is related to the system scale and the IQ parameters. We also compare the performance of WL-BD with BD. The analysis shows that with ideal IQ branches, WL-BD has the same data rate as BD, while when IQI exists, WL-BD achieves the same multiplexing gain as BD without IQ imbalance. Numerical results verify the analysis and show that the proposed widely-linear type precoding methods significantly outperform their conventional counterparts with IQI and approach those with ideal IQ branches.

On Consideration of Content Preference and Sharing Willingness in D2D Assisted Offloading

Device-to-device (D2D) assisted offloading heavily depends on the participation of human users. The content preference and sharing willingness of human users are two crucial factors in the D2D assisted offloading. In this paper, with consideration of these two factors, the optimal content pushing strategy is investigated by formulating an optimization problem to maximize the offloading gain measured by the offloaded traffic. Users are placed into groups according to their content preferences, and share content with intergroup and intragroup users at different sharing probabilities. Although the optimization problem is nonconvex, the closed-form optimal solution for a special case is obtained, when the sharing probabilities for intergroup and intragroup users are the same. Furthermore, an alternative group optimization (AGO) algorithm is proposed to solve the general case of the optimization problem. Finally, simulation results are provided to demonstrate the offloading performance achieved by the optimal pushing strategy for the special case and AGO algorithm. An interesting conclusion drawn is that the group with the largest number of interested users is not necessarily given the highest pushing probability. It is more important to give high pushing probability to users with high sharing willingness.

On the Successive Cancellation Decoding of Polar Codes with Arbitrary Linear Binary Kernels

A method for efficiently successive cancellation (SC) decoding of polar codes with high-dimensional linear binary kernels (HDLBK) is presented and analyzed. We devise a $l$-expressions method which can obtain simplified recursive formulas of SC decoder in likelihood ratio form for arbitrary linear binary kernels to reduce the complexity of corresponding SC decoder. By considering the bit-channel transition probabilities $W_{G}^{(\cdot)}(\cdot|0)$ and $W_{G}^{(\cdot)}(\cdot|1)$ separately, a $W$-expressions method is proposed to further reduce the complexity of HDLBK based SC decoder. For a $m\times m$ binary kernel, the complexity of straightforward SC decoder is $O(2^{m}N\log N)$. With $W$-expressions, we reduce the complexity of straightforward SC decoder to $O(m^{2}N\log N)$ when $m\leq 16$. Simulation results show that $16\times16$ kernel polar codes offer significant advantages in terms of error performances compared with $2\times2$ kernel polar codes under SC and list SC decoders.

Intermittency measurement in two dimensional bacterial turbulence

In this paper, an experimental velocity database of a bacterial collective motion , e.g., \textit{B. subtilis}, in turbulent phase with volume filling fraction $84\%$ provided by Professor Goldstein at the Cambridge University UK, was analyzed to emphasize the scaling behavior of this active turbulence system. This was accomplished by performing a Hilbert-based methodology analysis to retrieve the scaling property without the $β-$limitation. A dual-power-law behavior separated by the viscosity scale $\ell_ν$ was observed for the $q$th-order Hilbert moment $\mathcal{L}_q(k)$. This dual-power-law belongs to an inverse-cascade since the scaling range is above the injection scale $R$, e.g., the bacterial body length. The measured scaling exponents $ζ(q)$ of both the small-scale \red{(resp. $k>k_ν$) and large-scale (resp. $k<k_ν$)} motions are convex, showing the multifractality. A lognormal formula was put forward to characterize the multifractal intensity. The measured intermittency parameters are $μ_S=0.26$ and $μ_L=0.17$ respectively for the small- and large-scale motions. It implies that the former cascade is more intermittent than the latter one, which is also confirmed by the corresponding singularity spectrum $f(α)$ vs $α$. Comparison with the conventional two-dimensional Ekman-Navier-Stokes equation, a continuum model indicates that the origin of the multifractality could be a result of some additional nonlinear interaction terms, which deservers a more careful investigation.

Counting similarities between tetraquark and mesonic/gluonic operators

After the study of the preclusion of exotic meson states in large-$N_c$ limit QCD, combining Weinberg's opposite proposal, we get different counting orders for a tetraquark operator to create or destroy an one-tetraquark state. Meanwhile, by comparing tetraquark operator with the mesonic and gluonic operators, we find that tetraquark operators are similar with mesonic and gluonic operators in the counting. Furthermore, we find a mixing of different kinds of operators.

Totally Distributed Energy-Efficient Transmission in MIMO Interference Channels

In this paper, we consider the problem of maximizing the energy efficiency (EE) for multi-input multi-output (MIMO) interference channels, subject to the per-link power constraint. To avoid extensive information exchange among all links, the optimization problem is formulated as a noncooperative game, where each link maximizes its own EE. We show that this game always admits a Nash equilibrium (NE) and the sufficient condition for the uniqueness of the NE is derived for the case of arbitrary channel matrices, which can be checked in practice. To reach the NE of this game, we develop a totally distributed EE algorithm, in which each link updates its own transmit covariance matrix in a completely distributed and asynchronous way: Some players may update their solutions more frequently than others or even use the outdated interference information. The sufficient conditions that guarantee the global convergence of the proposed algorithm to the NE of the game have been given as well. We also study the impact of the circuit power consumption on the sum-EE performance of the proposed algorithm in the case when the links are separated sufficiently far away. Moreover, the tradeoff between the sum-EE and the sum-spectral efficiency (SE) is investigated with the proposed algorithm under two special cases: 1) low transmit power constraint regime; 2) high transmit power constraint regime. Finally, extensive simulations are conducted to evaluate the impact of various system parameters on the system performance.

Gas Model of Gravitons with Light Speed

We first review some aspects of gravitational wave and the thermodynamic expression of Einstein field equations, these achieved conclusions allow people to think of Einstein's gravitational wave as a kind of sound wave in ordinary gas which propagates as an adiabatic compression wave. In the following, using the properties of photon gas in "white wall box", we find an analogous relationship between ordinary gas and photon gas through sound velocity formula. At last, by taking the ordinary gas as an intermediary, we find that gravitational wave is analogous to photon gas, or equally, gravitons are analogous to photons although they are different in some ways such as spins and coupling strengths, and these different properties don't affect their propagation speeds. Utilizing this analogous relationship, we achieve the gas model of gravitons and this model naturally gives out the light speed of gravitons

Multiuser Cellular Network

Modern radio communication is faced with a problem about how to distribute restricted frequency to users in a certain space. Since our task is to minimize the number of repeaters, a natural idea is enlarging coverage area. However, coverage has restrictions. First, service area has to be divided economically as repeater's coverage is limited. In this paper, our fundamental method is to adopt seamless cellular network division. Second, underlying physics content in frequency distribution problem is interference between two close frequencies. Consequently, we choose a proper frequency width of 0.1MHz and a relevantly reliable setting to apply one frequency several times. We make a few general assumptions to simplify real situation. For instance, immobile users yield to homogenous distribution; repeaters can receive and transmit information in any given frequency in duplex operation; coverage is mainly decided by antenna height. Two models are built up to solve 1000 users and 10000 users situations respectively. In order to utilize restricted frequency and PL code, three stratified terms - "cell", "cluster", "group" - are introduced to describe the models in detail. Under our analysis, 91 repeaters for 1000 users and 469 repeaters for 10000 users are viable results. Next, to test stability and sensitivity of models, we give total consideration to the variation of sum of users, antenna height, and frequency width and service radius. Evaluation about models is offered qualitatively. Finally, two practical cases are put forward to gain a partial knowledge of mountainous area. The brief method in dealing with mountains is classified discussion in two ideal conditions. It may provide some constructive suggestions to avoid shortcomings or take proper measures in similar locations.

Hamiltonian Structures and Reciprocal Transformations for the $r$-KdV-CH Hierarchy

The $r$-KdV-CH hierarchy is a generalization of the Korteweg-de Vries and Camassa-Holm hierarchies parametrized by $r+1$ constants. In this paper we clarify some properties of its multi-Hamiltonian structures, prove the semisimplicity of the associated bihamiltonian structures and the formula for their central invariants. By introducing a class of generalized Hamiltonian structures, we give in a natural way the transformation formulae of the Hamiltonian structures of the hierarchy under certain reciprocal transformation, and prove the formulae at the level of its dispersionless limit. We also consider relations of the associated bihamiltonian structures to Frobenius manifolds.

A 2-Component Generalization of the Camassa-Holm Equation and Its Solutions

An explicit reciprocal transformation between a 2-component generalization of the Camassa-Holm equation, called the 2-CH system, and the first negative flow of the AKNS hierarchy is established, this transformation enables one to obtain solutions of the 2-CH system from those of the first negative flow of the AKNS hierarchy. Interesting examples of peakon and multi-kink solutions of the 2-CH system are presented.
