Mano Technical Report

Graphical user interfaces (GUIs) are the primary medium for human-computer interaction, yet automating GUI interactions remains challenging due to the complexity of visual elements, dynamic environments, and the need for multi-step reasoning. Existing methods based on vision-language models (VLMs) often suffer from limited resolution, domain mismatch, and insufficient sequential decisionmaking capability. To address these issues, we propose Mano, a robust GUI agent built upon a multi-modal foundation model pre-trained on extensive web and computer system data. Our approach integrates a novel simulated environment for high-fidelity data generation, a three-stage training pipeline (supervised fine-tuning, offline reinforcement learning, and online reinforcement learning), and a verification module for error recovery. Mano demonstrates state-of-the-art performance on multiple GUI benchmarks, including Mind2Web and OSWorld, achieving significant improvements in success rate and operational accuracy. Our work provides new insights into the effective integration of reinforcement learning with VLMs for practical GUI agent deployment, highlighting the importance of domain-specific data, iterative training, and holistic reward design.

PRE-MAP: Personalized Reinforced Eye-tracking Multimodal LLM for High-Resolution Multi-Attribute Point Prediction

Visual selective attention, driven by individual preferences, regulates human prioritization of visual stimuli by bridging subjective cognitive mechanisms with objective visual elements, thereby steering the semantic interpretation and hierarchical processing of dynamic visual scenes. However, existing models and datasets predominantly neglect the influence of subjective cognitive diversity on fixation behavior. Conventional saliency prediction models, typically employing segmentation approaches, rely on low-resolution imagery to generate saliency heatmaps, subsequently upscaled to native resolutions, which limiting their capacity to capture personalized attention patterns. Furthermore, MLLMs are constrained by factors such as hallucinations, making it very costly to strictly adhere to the expected format in tasks involving multiple point predictions, and achieving precise point positioning is challenging. To address these limitations, we present Subjective Personalized Attention for Advertisement Videos, namely SPA-ADV, a large-scale multimodal dataset capturing gaze behaviors from over 4,500 participants varying in age and gender with 486 videos. Furthermore, we propose PRE-MAP, a novel eye-tracking saliency model that characterizes Personalized visual disparities through Reinforcement learning-optimized Eye-tracking, built upon MLLMs and guided by Multi-Attribute user profiles to predict Points. To ensure MLLMs produce prediction points that are both format-correct and spatially accurate, we introduce Consistency Group Relative Policy Optimization (C-GRPO), inspired by the variability in eye movement points and Multi-Attribute profiles. Extensive experiments on SPA-ADV and other benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach. The code and dataset are available at \href{https://github.com/mininglamp-MLLM/PRE-MAP}{this URL}.

Residual Cross-Attention Transformer-Based Multi-User CSI Feedback with Deep Joint Source-Channel Coding

This letter proposes a deep-learning (DL)-based multi-user channel state information (CSI) feedback framework for massive multiple-input multiple-output systems, where the deep joint source-channel coding (DJSCC) is utilized to improve the CSI reconstruction accuracy. Specifically, we design a multi-user joint CSI feedback framework, whereby the CSI correlation of nearby users is utilized to reduce the feedback overhead. Under the framework, we propose a new residual cross-attention transformer architecture, which is deployed at the base station to further improve the CSI feedback performance. Moreover, to tackle the "cliff-effect" of conventional bit-level CSI feedback approaches, we integrated DJSCC into the multi-user CSI feedback, together with utilizing a two-stage training scheme to adapt to varying uplink noise levels. Experimental results demonstrate the superiority of our methods in CSI feedback performance, with low network complexity and better scalability.

What Makes a Good TODO Comment?

Software development is a collaborative process that involves various interactions among individuals and teams. TODO comments in source code play a critical role in managing and coordinating diverse tasks during this process. However, this study finds that a large proportion of open-source project TODO comments are left unresolved or take a long time to be resolved. About 46.7\% of TODO comments in open-source repositories are of low-quality (e.g., TODOs that are ambiguous, lack information, or are useless to developers). This highlights the need for better TODO practices. In this study, we investigate four aspects regarding the quality of TODO comments in open-source projects: (1) the prevalence of low-quality TODO comments; (2) the key characteristics of high-quality TODO comments; (3) how are TODO comments of different quality managed in practice; and (4) the feasibility of automatically assessing TODO comment quality. Examining 2,863 TODO comments from Top100 GitHub Java repositories, we propose criteria to identify high-quality TODO comments and provide insights into their optimal composition. We discuss the lifecycle of TODO comments with varying quality. we construct deep learning-based methods that show promising performance in identifying the quality of TODO comments, potentially enhancing development efficiency and code quality.

Jointly Complementary&Competitive Influence Maximization with Concurrent Ally-Boosting and Rival-Preventing

In this paper, we propose a new influence spread model, namely, Complementary\&Competitive Independent Cascade (C$^2$IC) model. C$^2$IC model generalizes three well known influence model, i.e., influence boosting (IB) model, campaign oblivious (CO)IC model and the IC-N (IC model with negative opinions) model. This is the first model that considers both complementary and competitive influence spread comprehensively under multi-agent environment. Correspondingly, we propose the Complementary\&Competitive influence maximization (C$^2$IM) problem. Given an ally seed set and a rival seed set, the C$^2$IM problem aims to select a set of assistant nodes that can boost the ally spread and prevent the rival spread concurrently. We show the problem is NP-hard and can generalize the influence boosting problem and the influence blocking problem. With classifying the different cascade priorities into 4 cases by the monotonicity and submodularity (M\&S) holding conditions, we design 4 algorithms respectively, with theoretical approximation bounds provided. We conduct extensive experiments on real social networks and the experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms. We hope this work can inspire abundant future exploration for constructing more generalized influence models that help streamline the works of this area.

Hypergraph Multi-modal Large Language Model: Exploiting EEG and Eye-tracking Modalities to Evaluate Heterogeneous Responses for Video Understanding

Understanding of video creativity and content often varies among individuals, with differences in focal points and cognitive levels across different ages, experiences, and genders. There is currently a lack of research in this area, and most existing benchmarks suffer from several drawbacks: 1) a limited number of modalities and answers with restrictive length; 2) the content and scenarios within the videos are excessively monotonous, transmitting allegories and emotions that are overly simplistic. To bridge the gap to real-world applications, we introduce a large-scale Subjective Response Indicators for Advertisement Videos dataset, namely SRI-ADV. Specifically, we collected real changes in Electroencephalographic (EEG) and eye-tracking regions from different demographics while they viewed identical video content. Utilizing this multi-modal dataset, we developed tasks and protocols to analyze and evaluate the extent of cognitive understanding of video content among different users. Along with the dataset, we designed a Hypergraph Multi-modal Large Language Model (HMLLM) to explore the associations among different demographics, video elements, EEG, and eye-tracking indicators. HMLLM could bridge semantic gaps across rich modalities and integrate information beyond different modalities to perform logical reasoning. Extensive experimental evaluations on SRI-ADV and other additional video-based generative performance benchmarks demonstrate the effectiveness of our method. The codes and dataset will be released at https://github.com/mininglamp-MLLM/HMLLM.

Multiday User Equilibrium with Strategic Commuters

In the era of connected and automated mobility, commuters will possess strong computation power, enabling them to strategically make sequential travel choices over a planning horizon. This paper investigates the multiday traffic patterns that arise from such decision-making behavior. In doing so, we frame the commute problem as a mean-field Markov game and introduce a novel concept of multiday user equilibrium to capture the steady state of commuters' interactions. The proposed model is general and can be tailored to various travel choices such as route or departure time. We explore a range of properties of the multiday user equilibrium under mild conditions. The study reveals the fingerprint of user inertia on network flow patterns, causing between-day variations even at a steady state. Furthermore, our analysis establishes critical connections between the multiday user equilibrium and conventional Wardrop equilibrium.

The USTC-NERCSLIP Systems for The ICMC-ASR Challenge

This report describes the submitted system to the In-Car Multi-Channel Automatic Speech Recognition (ICMC-ASR) challenge, which considers the ASR task with multi-speaker overlapping and Mandarin accent dynamics in the ICMC case. We implement the front-end speaker diarization using the self-supervised learning representation based multi-speaker embedding and beamforming using the speaker position, respectively. For ASR, we employ an iterative pseudo-label generation method based on fusion model to obtain text labels of unsupervised data. To mitigate the impact of accent, an Accent-ASR framework is proposed, which captures pronunciation-related accent features at a fine-grained level and linguistic information at a coarse-grained level. On the ICMC-ASR eval set, the proposed system achieves a CER of 13.16% on track 1 and a cpCER of 21.48% on track 2, which significantly outperforms the official baseline system and obtains the first rank on both tracks.

Deep Joint Semantic Coding and Beamforming for Near-Space Airship-Borne Massive MIMO Network

Near-space airship-borne communication network is recognized to be an indispensable component of the future integrated ground-air-space network thanks to airships' advantage of long-term residency at stratospheric altitudes, but it urgently needs reliable and efficient Airship-to-X link. To improve the transmission efficiency and capacity, this paper proposes to integrate semantic communication with massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology. Specifically, we propose a deep joint semantic coding and beamforming (JSCBF) scheme for airship-based massive MIMO image transmission network in space, in which semantics from both source and channel are fused to jointly design the semantic coding and physical layer beamforming. First, we design two semantic extraction networks to extract semantics from image source and channel state information, respectively. Then, we propose a semantic fusion network that can fuse these semantics into complex-valued semantic features for subsequent physical-layer transmission. To efficiently transmit the fused semantic features at the physical layer, we then propose the hybrid data and model-driven semantic-aware beamforming networks. At the receiver, a semantic decoding network is designed to reconstruct the transmitted images. Finally, we perform end-to-end deep learning to jointly train all the modules, using the image reconstruction quality at the receivers as a metric. The proposed deep JSCBF scheme fully combines the efficient source compressibility and robust error correction capability of semantic communication with the high spectral efficiency of massive MIMO, achieving a significant performance improvement over existing approaches.

Stable Optimization for Large Vision Model Based Deep Image Prior in Cone-Beam CT Reconstruction

Large Vision Model (LVM) has recently demonstrated great potential for medical imaging tasks, potentially enabling image enhancement for sparse-view Cone-Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), despite requiring a substantial amount of data for training. Meanwhile, Deep Image Prior (DIP) effectively guides an untrained neural network to generate high-quality CBCT images without any training data. However, the original DIP method relies on a well-defined forward model and a large-capacity backbone network, which is notoriously difficult to converge. In this paper, we propose a stable optimization method for the forward-model-free, LVM-based DIP model for sparse-view CBCT. Our approach consists of two main characteristics: (1) multi-scale perceptual loss (MSPL) which measures the similarity of perceptual features between the reference and output images at multiple resolutions without the need for any forward model, and (2) a reweighting mechanism that stabilizes the iteration trajectory of MSPL. One shot optimization is used to simultaneously and stably reweight MSPL and optimize LVM. We evaluate our approach on two publicly available datasets: SPARE and Walnut. The results show significant improvements in both image quality metrics and visualization that demonstrates reduced streak artifacts. The source code is available upon request.

An Integrated Visual Analytics System for Studying Clinical Carotid Artery Plaques

Carotid artery plaques can cause arterial vascular diseases such as stroke and myocardial infarction, posing a severe threat to human life. However, the current clinical examination mainly relies on a direct assessment by physicians of patients' clinical indicators and medical images, lacking an integrated visualization tool for analyzing the influencing factors and composition of carotid artery plaques. We have designed an intelligent carotid artery plaque visual analysis system for vascular surgery experts to comprehensively analyze the clinical physiological and imaging indicators of carotid artery diseases. The system mainly includes two functions: First, it displays the correlation between carotid artery plaque and various factors through a series of information visualization methods and integrates the analysis of patient physiological indicator data. Second, it enhances the interface guidance analysis of the inherent correlation between the components of carotid artery plaque through machine learning and displays the spatial distribution of the plaque on medical images. Additionally, we conducted two case studies on carotid artery plaques using real data obtained from a hospital, and the results indicate that our designed carotid analysis system can effectively provide clinical diagnosis and treatment guidance for vascular surgeons.

Reducing the gap between streaming and non-streaming Transducer-based ASR by adaptive two-stage knowledge distillation

Transducer is one of the mainstream frameworks for streaming speech recognition. There is a performance gap between the streaming and non-streaming transducer models due to limited context. To reduce this gap, an effective way is to ensure that their hidden and output distributions are consistent, which can be achieved by hierarchical knowledge distillation. However, it is difficult to ensure the distribution consistency simultaneously because the learning of the output distribution depends on the hidden one. In this paper, we propose an adaptive two-stage knowledge distillation method consisting of hidden layer learning and output layer learning. In the former stage, we learn hidden representation with full context by applying mean square error loss function. In the latter stage, we design a power transformation based adaptive smoothness method to learn stable output distribution. It achieved 19\% relative reduction in word error rate, and a faster response for the first token compared with the original streaming model in LibriSpeech corpus.

AutoKary2022: A Large-Scale Densely Annotated Dataset for Chromosome Instance Segmentation

Automated chromosome instance segmentation from metaphase cell microscopic images is critical for the diagnosis of chromosomal disorders (i.e., karyotype analysis). However, it is still a challenging task due to lacking of densely annotated datasets and the complicated morphologies of chromosomes, e.g., dense distribution, arbitrary orientations, and wide range of lengths. To facilitate the development of this area, we take a big step forward and manually construct a large-scale densely annotated dataset named AutoKary2022, which contains over 27,000 chromosome instances in 612 microscopic images from 50 patients. Specifically, each instance is annotated with a polygonal mask and a class label to assist in precise chromosome detection and segmentation. On top of it, we systematically investigate representative methods on this dataset and obtain a number of interesting findings, which helps us have a deeper understanding of the fundamental problems in chromosome instance segmentation. We hope this dataset could advance research towards medical understanding. The dataset can be available at: https://github.com/wangjuncongyu/chromosome-instance-segmentation-dataset.

Entanglement as the cross-symmetric part of quantum discord

In this paper, we show that the minimal quantum discord over "cross-symmetric" state extensions is an entanglement monotone. In particular, we show that the minimal Bures distance of discord over cross-symmetric extensions is equivalent to the Bures distance of entanglement. At last, we refute a long-held but unstated convention that only contractive distances can be used to construct entanglement monotones by showing that the entanglement quantifier induced by the Hilbert-Schmidt distance, which is not contractive under quantum operations, is also an entanglement monotone.

Deep Learning-Based Rate-Splitting Multiple Access for Reconfigurable Intelligent Surface-Aided Tera-Hertz Massive MIMO

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) can significantly enhance the service coverage of Tera-Hertz massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems. However, obtaining accurate high-dimensional channel state information (CSI) with limited pilot and feedback signaling overhead is challenging, severely degrading the performance of conventional spatial division multiple access. To improve the robustness against CSI imperfection, this paper proposes a deep learning (DL)-based rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) scheme for RIS-aided Tera-Hertz multi-user MIMO systems. Specifically, we first propose a hybrid data-model driven DL-based RSMA precoding scheme, including the passive precoding at the RIS as well as the analog active precoding and the RSMA digital active precoding at the base station (BS). To realize the passive precoding at the RIS, we propose a Transformer-based data-driven RIS reflecting network (RRN). As for the analog active precoding at the BS, we propose a match-filter based analog precoding scheme considering that the BS and RIS adopt the LoS-MIMO antenna array architecture. As for the RSMA digital active precoding at the BS, we propose a low-complexity approximate weighted minimum mean square error (AWMMSE) digital precoding scheme. Furthermore, for better precoding performance as well as lower computational complexity, a model-driven deep unfolding active precoding network (DFAPN) is also designed by combining the proposed AWMMSE scheme with DL. Then, to acquire accurate CSI at the BS for the investigated RSMA precoding scheme to achieve higher spectral efficiency, we propose a CSI acquisition network (CAN) with low pilot and feedback signaling overhead, where the downlink pilot transmission, CSI feedback at the user equipments (UEs), and CSI reconstruction at the BS are modeled as an end-to-end neural network based on Transformer.

Improving Mandarin Speech Recogntion with Block-augmented Transformer

Recently Convolution-augmented Transformer (Conformer) has shown promising results in Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR), outperforming the previous best published Transformer Transducer. In this work, we believe that the output information of each block in the encoder and decoder is not completely inclusive, in other words, their output information may be complementary. We study how to take advantage of the complementary information of each block in a parameter-efficient way, and it is expected that this may lead to more robust performance. Therefore we propose the Block-augmented Transformer for speech recognition, named Blockformer. We have implemented two block ensemble methods: the base Weighted Sum of the Blocks Output (Base-WSBO), and the Squeeze-and-Excitation module to Weighted Sum of the Blocks Output (SE-WSBO). Experiments have proved that the Blockformer significantly outperforms the state-of-the-art Conformer-based models on AISHELL-1, our model achieves a CER of 4.29\% without using a language model and 4.05\% with an external language model on the testset.

Data-Driven Deep Learning Based Hybrid Beamforming for Aerial Massive MIMO-OFDM Systems with Implicit CSI

In an aerial hybrid massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, how to design a spectral-efficient broadband multi-user hybrid beamforming with a limited pilot and feedback overhead is challenging. To this end, by modeling the key transmission modules as an end-to-end (E2E) neural network, this paper proposes a data-driven deep learning (DL)-based unified hybrid beamforming framework for both the time division duplex (TDD) and frequency division duplex (FDD) systems with implicit channel state information (CSI). For TDD systems, the proposed DL-based approach jointly models the uplink pilot combining and downlink hybrid beamforming modules as an E2E neural network. While for FDD systems, we jointly model the downlink pilot transmission, uplink CSI feedback, and downlink hybrid beamforming modules as an E2E neural network. Different from conventional approaches separately processing different modules, the proposed solution simultaneously optimizes all modules with the sum rate as the optimization object. Therefore, by perceiving the inherent property of air-to-ground massive MIMO-OFDM channel samples, the DL-based E2E neural network can establish the mapping function from the channel to the beamformer, so that the explicit channel reconstruction can be avoided with reduced pilot and feedback overhead. Besides, practical low-resolution phase shifters (PSs) introduce the quantization constraint, leading to the intractable gradient backpropagation when training the neural network. To mitigate the performance loss caused by the phase quantization error, we adopt the transfer learning strategy to further fine-tune the E2E neural network based on a pre-trained network that assumes the ideal infinite-resolution PSs. Numerical results show that our DL-based schemes have considerable advantages over state-of-the-art schemes.

Modeling Price Elasticity for Occupancy Prediction in Hotel Dynamic Pricing

Demand estimation plays an important role in dynamic pricing where the optimal price can be obtained via maximizing the revenue based on the demand curve. In online hotel booking platform, the demand or occupancy of rooms varies across room-types and changes over time, and thus it is challenging to get an accurate occupancy estimate. In this paper, we propose a novel hotel demand function that explicitly models the price elasticity of demand for occupancy prediction, and design a price elasticity prediction model to learn the dynamic price elasticity coefficient from a variety of affecting factors. Our model is composed of carefully designed elasticity learning modules to alleviate the endogeneity problem, and trained in a multi-task framework to tackle the data sparseness. We conduct comprehensive experiments on real-world datasets and validate the superiority of our method over the state-of-the-art baselines for both occupancy prediction and dynamic pricing.
