Matrix Product Evolution: A Method for Simulating Quantum Circuits Using Tensor Networks

Classical simulation of quantum circuits is an essential tool in quantum information science, but its applicability is constrained by the exponential growth of the Hilbert space and the entanglement structure of quantum states. In this work, we introduce Matrix Product Evolution (MPE), a tensor-train representation of quantum circuits constructed along the circuit depth rather than along the qubit index. Within this formulation, the simulation of a quantum circuit is modeled as the contraction of multiple MPE tensors. We develop an efficient contraction strategy based on a zip-up procedure to carry out this contraction in practice. We investigate the numerical behavior of this MPE-based contraction framework through simulations of random quantum circuits and the time evolution of a quantum many-body state. Our results characterize the growth of temporal bond dimensions, clarify how post-selection modifies the contraction cost and approximation accuracy, and identify regimes in which depth-oriented tensor-network contractions provide a useful complement to standard MPS-based simulation approaches.

MSSM without a free parameter

It is often argued that the minimal supersymmetric standard model has O(100) free parameters and the generic parameter region is already excluded by the null observation of the flavor and CP violating processes as well as the constraints from the LHC experiments. This situation naturally leads us to consider the case where all the dangerous soft supersymmetry breaking terms such as the scalar masses and scalar couplings are absent, while only the unified gaugino mass term and the mu term are non-vanishing at the grand unification scale. We revisit this simple situation taking into account the observed Higgs boson mass, 125 GeV. Since the gaugino mass and the mu term are fixed in order to explain the Higgs boson and the Z boson masses, there is no free parameter left in this scenario. We find that there are three independent parameter sets exist including ones which have not been discussed in the literature. We also find that the abundance of the dark matter can be explained by relic gravitinos which are non-thermally produced as decay products of the SUSY particles while satisfying constraints from Big Bang Nucleosynthesis. We discuss the effects of the gravity mediation which generically give contribution to the soft terms of the order of the gravitino mass. It turns out that newly found parameter set is preferable to explain the Higgs boson mass as well as the gravitino dark matter while satisfying the constraints from the electric dipole moments of the electron and the nucleon.

Non-Thermal Production of Wino Dark Matter via the Decay of Long-Lived Particles

We consider supersymmetric models in which the neutral Wino is the lightest superparticle (LSP), and study the possibility that non-thermally produced Wino plays the role of dark matter. The thermal relic density of Wino is smaller than the present mass density of dark matter if wino mass is smaller than 2.9 TeV; however, even with smaller Wino mass, Wino can be the dominant component of dark matter if it is non-thermally produced by the decay of an exotic particle. In order to study such a possibility in detail, we perform a precise calculation of the present mass density of Wino produced by the exotic-particle decay, taking account of the following effects: (i) coannihilation among charged and neutral Winos, and (ii) Sommerfeld effect on the pair annihilation cross section of Winos. We consider several well-motivated cases where the exotic particle corresponds to cosmological moduli fields, gravitino, or axino, and discuss the implication of the Wino LSP for these cases.

The Anatomy of Neutral Scalars with FCNCs in the Flavour Precision Era

In many extensions of the Standard Model flavour changing neutral current processes can be mediated by tree-level heavy neutral scalars and/or pseudo-scalars H^0(A^0). This generally introduces new sources of flavour violation and CP violation as well as left-handed and right-handed scalar currents. These new physics contributions imply a pattern of deviations from SM expectations for FCNC processes that depends only on the couplings of H^0(A^0) to fermions and on their masses. In situations in which a single H^0 or A^0 dominates NP contributions stringent correlations between Delta F=2 and Delta F=1 observables exist. Anticipating the Flavour Precision Era ahead of us we illustrate this by searching for allowed oases in the landscape of a given model assuming significantly smaller uncertainties in CKM and hadronic parameters than presently available. To this end we analyze Delta F=2 observables in B^0_{s,d}-bar B^0_{s,d} and K^0-bar K^0 systems and rare B and K decays with charged leptons in the final state including both left-handed and right-handed scalar couplings of H^0 and A^0 to quarks in various combinations. We identify a number of correlations between various flavour observables that could test and distinguish these different scenarios. The prominent role of the decays B_{s,d}-> mu^+ mu^- in these studies is emphasized. Imposing the existing flavour constraints, a rich pattern of deviations from the SM expectations in rare B_{s,d} decays emerges provided M_H< 1 TeV. NP effects in rare K decays are very small. Neutral SM Higgs contributions to rare B and K decays turn out to be negligible once the constraints from Delta F=2 processes are taken into account. Finally, we point out striking differences between the correlations found here and in scenarios in which tree-level FCNC are mediated by a new neutral gauge boson Z'.

Lepton Flavor Violations in High-Scale SUSY with Right-Handed Neutrinos

Motivated by the recent discovery of the Higgs boson at m_h = 126 GeV and also by the non-observation of superparticles at the LHC, high-scale SUSY, where the superparticles are as heavy as O(10) TeV, has been recently proposed. We study lepton-flavor violations (LFVs) in the high-scale SUSY with right-handed neutrinos. Even if the slepton masses are of O(10) TeV, the renormalization group (RG) effects on the slepton mass-squared matrix may induce large enough LFVs which are within the reach of future LFV experiments. We also discuss the implication of the right-handed neutrinos on the electroweak symmetry breaking in such a model, and show that the parameter region with the successful electroweak symmetry breaking is enlarged by the RG effects due to the right-handed neutrinos.

Probing Supersymmetric Model with Heavy Sfermions Using Leptonic Flavor and CP Violations

We study leptonic flavor and CP violating observables in supersymmetric (SUSY) models with heavy sfermions, which is motivated by the recent results of the LHC experiments (i.e., the discovery of the Higgs-like boson with the mass of about 126 GeV and the negative searches for the superparticles). Even if the sfermion masses are of O(10-100 TeV), signals may be within the reach of future leptonic flavor- and CP-violation experiments assuming that the off-diagonal elements of the sfermion mass matrices are unsuppressed compared to the diagonal ones. We also consider the SUSY contribution to the K0-K0bar mixing paraemters; we show that the leptonic observables can become as powerful as those in K0-K0bar mixing to constrain SUSY models.

Footprints of SUSY GUTs in Flavour Physics

Supersymmetric (SUSY) Grand Unified theories (GUTs) generally predict FCNC and CP violating processes to occur both in the leptonic and hadronic sectors. Assuming an underlying SU(5) group plus right-handed neutrinos (RN), we perform an extensive study of FCNC and CP violation, analyzing the correlations between leptonic and hadronic processes like mu-> e gamma and K-Kbar mixing, tau->mu gamma and b -> s transitions such as B_d -> phi K_s and Bs-Bsbar mixing. Moreover, we examine the impact of the considered scenario on the UT analyses, monitoring the low energy consequences implied by possible solutions to the various tensions in the present UT analyses. We compare the phenomenological implications of this NP scenario with the ones of supersymmetric flavour models finding a few striking differences that could allow to distinguish these different NP models.

A Complete Analysis of "Flavored" Electric Dipole Moments in Supersymmetric Theories

The Standard Model predictions for the hadronic and leptonic electric dipole moments (EDMs) are well far from the present experimental resolutions, thus, the EDMs represent very clean probes of New Physics effects. Especially, within supersymmetric frameworks with flavor-violating soft terms large and potentially visible effects to the EDMs are typically expected. In this work, we systematically evaluate the predictions for the EDMs at the beyond-leading-order (BLO). In fact, we show that BLO contributions to the EDMs dominate over the leading-order (LO) effects in large regions of the supersymmetric parameter space. Hence, their inclusion in the evaluation of the EDMs is unavoidable. As an example, we show the relevance of BLO effects to the EDMs for a SUSY $SU(5)$ model with right-handed neutrinos.

Direct/indirect detection signatures of nonthermally produced dark matter

We study direct and indirect detection possibilities of neutralino dark matter produced non-thermally by e.g. the decay of long-lived particles, as is easily implemented in the case of anomaly or mirage mediation models. In this scenario, large self-annihilation cross sections are required to account for the present dark matter abundance, and it leads to significant enhancement of the gamma-ray signature from the Galactic Center and the positron flux from the dark matter annihilation. It is found that GLAST and PAMELA will find the signal or give tight constraints on such nonthermal production scenarios of neutralino dark matter.

Upperbound on Squark Masses in Gauge-Mediation Model with Light Gravitino

We examine stabilities of our supersymmetry-breaking false vacuum in a low-energy direct gauge mediation model of SUSY breaking. The stability required in the high-temperature early universe leads to upperbounds on masses of squarks and gluino as m_\tilde{q} \lesssim 1 TeV and m_\tilde{g} \lesssim 1 TeV for the light gravitino of mass m_{3/2} \lesssim 16 eV.

Nonthermal dark matter in mirage mediation

In mirage-mediation models there exists a modulus field whose mass is O(1000) TeV and its late-decay may significantly change the standard thermal relic scenario of the dark matter. We study nonthermal production of the dark matter directly from the modulus decay, and find that for some parameter regions non-thermally produced neutralinos can become the dark matter.

Stability of Metastable Vacua in Gauge Mediated SUSY Breaking Models with Ultra Light Gravitino

Recently Murayama and Nomura proposed a simple scheme to construct the gauge mediation models, using metastable supersymmetry breaking vacua. It has a possibility to predict the ultra light gravitino mass m_{3/2} \lesssim 16 eV, while such a light gravitino may destabilize the metastable vacua. We investigate stability of the metastable vacuum of their model. The transition rate from the false vacuum to true ones is evaluated by numerical calculation, including the Coleman-Weinberg potential destabilizing the metastable vacuum. It is found that when the messenger sector is minimal, stability of the metastable vacuum imposes an upperbound on squark mass M_{\tilde q} for the ultra light gravitino as M_{\tilde q} \lesssim 1800 GeV at most. Squarks with this mass may be found in the LHC experiments.

Electric Dipole Moments in PseudoDirac Gauginos

The SUSY CP problem is one of serious problems in construction of realistic supersymmetric standard models. We consider the problem in a framework in which adjoint chiral multiplets are introduced and gauginos have Dirac mass terms induced by a U(1) gauge interaction in the hidden sector. This is realized in hidden sector models without singlet chiral multiplets, which are favored from a recent study of the Polonyi problem. We find that the dominant contributions to electron and neutron electric dipole moments (EDMs) in the model come from phases in the supersymmetric adjoint mass terms. When the supersymmetric adjoint masses are suppressed by a factor of \sim 100 compared with the Dirac ones, the electron and neutron EDMs are suppressed below the experimental bound even if the SUSY particle masses are around 1 TeV. Thus, this model works as a framework to solve the SUSY CP problem.

Non-perturbative Effect on Thermal Relic Abundance of Dark Matter

We point out that thermal relic abundance of the dark matter is strongly altered by a non-perturbative effect called the Sommerfeld enhancement, when constituent particles of the dark matter are non-singlet under the SU(2)_L gauge interaction and much heavier than the weak gauge bosons. Typical candidates for such dark matter particles are the heavy wino- and higgsino-like neutralinos. We investigate the non-perturbative effect on the relic abundance of dark matter for the wino-like neutralino as an example. We show that its thermal abundance is reduced by 50% compared to the perturbative result. The wino-like neutralino mass consistent with the observed dark matter abundance turns out to be 2.7 TeV < m < 3.0 TeV.

New Two-loop Contributions to Hadronic EDMs in the MSSM

Flavor-changing terms with CP-violating phases in the quark sector may contribute to the hadronic electric dipole moments (EDMs). However, within the Standard Model (SM), the source of CP violation comes from the unique CKM phase, and it turns out that the EDMs are strongly suppressed. This implies that the EDMs are very sensitive to non-minimal flavor violation structures of theories beyond the SM. In this paper, we discuss the quark EDMs and CEDMs (chromoelectric dipole moments) in the MSSM with general flavor-changing terms in the squark mass matrices. In particular, the charged-Higgs mediated contributions to the down-quark EDM and CEDM are evaluated at two-loop level. We point out that these two-loop contributions may dominate over the one-loop induced gluino or Higgsino contributions even when the squark and gluino masses are around few TeV and \tanβis moderate.

Investigation of Possible Dark Matter Direct Detection in Electron Accelerators

We investigate a possibility of neutralino dark matter (DM) direct detection in the future electron accelerators. That is counting of high p_T electron recoil events by neutralinos in halo. If selectron and neutralino masses would be precisely measured in future collider experiments, the beam energy could be tuned so that the scatterings are dominated by on-pole selectron exchange. When selectron and neutralino mass difference is smaller than O(10) GeV, the elastic cross section exceeds over micro barn. Discovery of the high p_T electron events would be a firm prove of the neutralino DM component in halo. In the experiment, the electron beam energy must be tuned within O(10) MeV and the electron beam with high currents of O(100)A is required for the detectors of the total length of a few hundred meters so that the sufficient event rate is obtained. The dependence of the event rate on the DM velocity distribution in halo is also discussed. This method might be applicable to other DM candidates.

Hadronic EDM Constraints on Orbifold GUTs

We point out that the null results of the hadronic electric dipole moment (EDM) searches constrain orbifold grand unified theories (GUTs), where the GUT symmetry and supersymmetry (SUSY) are both broken by boundary conditions in extra dimensions and it leads to rich fermion and sfermion flavor structures. A marginal chromoelectric dipole moment (CEDM) of the up quark is induced by the misalignment between the CP violating left- and right-handed up-type squark mixings, in contrast to the conventional four-dimensional SUSY GUTs. The up quark CEDM constraint is found to be as strong as those from charged lepton flavor violation (LFV) searches. The interplay between future EDM and LFV experiments will probe the structures of the GUTs and the SUSY breaking mediation mechanism.

Hadronic EDMs in SUSY SU(5) GUTs with Right-handed Neutrinos

We discuss hadronic EDM constraints on the neutrino sector in the SUSY SU(5) GUT with the right-handed neutrinos. The hadronic EDMs are sensitive to the right-handed down-type squark mixings, especially between the second and third generations and between the first and third ones, compared with the other low-energy observables, and the flavor mixings are induced by the neutrino Yukawa interaction. The current experimental bound of the neutron EDM may imply that the right-handed tau neutrino mass is smaller than about 10^{14} GeV in the minimal supergravity scenario, and it may be improved furthermore in future experiments, such as the deuteron EDM measurement.
