Operator Ordering Ambiguity and Third Quantization

In this paper, we will constrain the operator ordering ambiguity of Wheeler-DeWitt equation by analyzing the quantum fluctuations in the universe. This will be done using a third quantized formalism. It is expected that the early stages of the universe are dominated by quantum fluctuations. Furthermore, it is also expected that these quantum fluctuations get suppressed with the expansion of the universe. We will show that this desired behavior of quantum fluctuations could be realized by a wide ranges of the factor ordering parameters. We will examined two different cosmological models, and observe that a similar range of factor ordering parameters produces this desired behavior in both those cosmological models.

Is Gravity Actually the Curvature of Spacetime?

The Einstein equations, apart from being the classical field equations of General Relativity, are also the classical field equations of two other theories of gravity. As the experimental tests of General Relativity are done using the Einstein equations, we do not really know, if gravity is the curvature of a torsionless spacetime, or torsion of a curvatureless spacetime, or if it occurs due to the non-metricity of a curvatureless and torsionless spacetime. However, as the classical actions of all these theories differ from each other by boundary terms, and the Casimir effect is a boundary effect, we propose that a novel gravitational Casimir effect between superconductors can be used to test which of these theories actually describe gravity.

Corrections to Scattering Processes due to Minimal Measurable Length

In this paper, we will analyze the short distance corrections to low energy scattering. They are produced because of an intrinsic extended structure of the background geometry of spacetime. It will be observed that the deformation produced by a minimal measurable length can have low energy consequences, if this extended structure occurs at a scale much larger than the Planck scale. We explicitly calculate short distance corrections to the Green function of the deformed Lippmann-Schwinger equation, and to the conserved currents for these processes. We then use them to analyze the pre-asymptotic corrections to the differential scattering flux at finite macroscopically small distances.

Charged scalar quasi-normal modes for higher-dimensional Born-Infeld dilatonic black holes with Lifshitz scaling

We study quasi-normal modes for a higher dimensional black hole with Lifshitz scaling, as these quasi-normal modes can be used to test Lifshitz models with large extra dimensions. Furthermore, as the effective Planck scale is brought down in many models with large extra dimensions, we study these quasi-normal modes for a UV completion action. Thus, we analyze quasi-normal modes for higher dimensional dilaton-Lifshitz black hole solutions coupled to a non-linear Born-Infeld action. We will analyze the charged perturbations for such a black hole solution. We will first analyze the general conditions for stability analytically, for a positive potential. Then, we analyze this system for a charged perturbation as well as negative potential, using the asymptotic iteration method for quasi-normal modes. Thus, we analyze the behavior of these modes numerically.

Path Integral for Non-Paraxial Optics

In this paper, we have constructed the Feynman path integral method for non-paraxial optics. This is done by using the mathematical analogy between a non-paraxial optical system and the generalized Schrödinger equation deformed by the existence a minimal measurable length. Using this analogy, we investigated the consequences of a minimal length in this optical system. This path integral has been used to obtain instanton solution for such a optical systems. Moreover, the Berry phase of this optical system has been investigated. These results may disclose a new way to use the path integral approach in optics. Furthermore, as such system with an intrinsic minimal length have been studied in quantum gravity, the ultra-focused optical pluses can be used as an optical analog of quantum gravity.

Universality of Short Distance Corrections to Quantum Optics

As quantum optical phenomena are based on Maxwell's equations, and it is becoming important to understand quantum optical phenomena at short distances, so it is important to analyze quantum optics using short distance corrected Maxwell's equation. Maxwell's action can be obtained from quantum electrodynamics using the framework of effective field theory, and so the leading order short distance corrections to Maxwell's action can also be obtained from the derivative expansion of the same effective field theory. Such short distance corrections will be universal for all quantum optical systems, and they will effect all short distance quantum optical phenomena. In this paper, we will analyze the form of such corrections, and demonstrate the standard formalism of quantum optics can still be used (with suitable modifications), to analyze quantum optical phenomena from this short distance corrected Maxwell's actions.

Thermodynamic and Holographic Information Dual to Volume

In this paper, we will analyze the connection between the fidelity susceptibility, the holographic complexity and the thermodynamic volume. We will regularize the fidelity susceptibility and the holographic complexity by subtracting the contribution of the background AdS spacetime from the deformation of the AdS spacetime. It will be demonstrated that this regularized fidelity susceptibility has the same behavior as the thermodynamic volume and that the regularized complexity has a very different behavior. As the information dual to different volumes in the bulk would be measured by the fidelity susceptibility and the holographic complexity, this paper will establish a connection between thermodynamics and information dual to a volume.

BTZ black holes in massive gravity

We analyze certain aspects of BTZ black holes in massive theory of gravity. The black hole solution is obtained by using the Vainshtein and dRGT mechanism, which is asymptotically AdS with an electric charge. We study the Hawking radiation using the tunneling formalism as well as analyze the black hole chemistry for such system. Subsequently, we use the thermodynamic pressure-volume diagram to explore the efficiency of the Carnot heat engine for this system. Some of the important features arising from our solution include the non-existence of quantum effects, critical Van der Walls behaviour, thermal fluctuations and instabilities. Moreover, our solution violates the Reverse Isoperimetric Inequality and, thus, the black hole is super-entropic, perhaps which turns out to be the most interesting characteristics of the BTZ black hole in massive gravity.

The Effect of Modified Dispersion Relation on Dumb Holes

In this paper, we will deform the usual energy-momentum dispersion relation of a photon gas at an intermediate scale between the Planck and electroweak scales. We will demonstrate that such a deformation can have non-trivial effects on the physics of dumb holes. So, motivated by the physics of dumb holes, we will first analyse the effect of such a deformation on thermodynamics. Then we observe that the velocity of sound also gets modified due to such a modification of the thermodynamics. This changes the position of the horizon of a dumb hole, and the analogous Hawking radiation from a dumb hole. Therefore, dumb holes can be used to measure the deformation of the usual energy-momentum dispersion relation.

Renormalizing gravity: a new insight into an old problem

It is well-known that perturbative quantum gravity is non-renormalizable. The metric or vierbein has generally been used as the variable to quantize in perturbative quantum gravity. In this essay, we show that one can use the spin connection instead, in which case it is possible to obtain a ghost-free renormalizable theory of quantum gravity. Furthermore in this approach, gravitational analogs of particle physics phenomena can be studied. In particular, we study the gravitational Higgs mechanism using spin connection as a gauge field, and show that this provides a mechanism for the effective reduction in the dimensionality of spacetime.

Logarithmic correction of the BTZ black hole and adaptive model of Graphene

It is known that almost all approaches to quantum gravity produce a logarithmic correction term to the entropy of a black hole, but the exact coefficient of such a term varies between the different approach to quantum gravity. Such logarithmic terms can also occur due to thermal fluctuations in both analogous and real black holes so that we will analyze the effects of logarithmic corrections term with variable coefficient on properties of analogous black hole. As these properties can be experimentally tested, they can be used to obtain the correct coefficient for such terms for an analogous black hole. We will argue that as even the real black holes can be considered as thermodynamical objects in Jacobson formalism, so such analogous black holes can be used to obtain the correct coefficient for the real black holes, and this in turn can be used to select the correct approach to quantum gravity. In that case, we use an adaptive model of graphene, which is still far from real graphene, to investigate some thermodynamics quantities of BTZ black hole.

Dimensional reduction via a novel Higgs mechanism

Many theories of quantum gravity live in higher dimensions, and their reduction to four dimensions via mechanisms such as Kaluza-Klein compactification or brane world models have associated problems. We propose a novel mechanism of dimensional reduction via spontaneous symmetry breaking of a higher dimensional local Lorentz group to one in lower dimensions. Working in the gauge theory formulation of gravity, we couple a scalar field to spin connections, include a potential for the field, and show that for a suitable choice of scalar vacuum, the local Lorentz symmetry of the action gets spontaneously reduced to one in a lower dimension. Thus effectively the dimension of spacetime gets reduced by one. This provides a viable mechanism for the dimensional reduction, and may have applications in theories of quantum gravity.

Generalized Dirac structure beyond the linear regime in graphene

We show that a generalized Dirac structure survives beyond the linear regime of the low-energy dispersion relations of graphene. A generalized uncertainty principle of the kind compatible with specific quantum gravity scenarios with a fundamental minimal length (here graphene lattice spacing) and Lorentz violation (here the particle/hole asymmetry, the trigonal warping, etc.) is naturally obtained. We then show that the corresponding emergent field theory is a table-top realization of such scenarios, by explicitly computing the third order Hamiltonian, and giving the general recipe for any order. Remarkably, our results imply that going beyond the low-energy approximation does not spoil the well-known correspondence with analogue massless quantum electrodynamics phenomena (as usually believed), but rather it is a way to obtain experimental signatures of quantum-gravity-like corrections to such phenomena.

Time Dependent Geometry in Massive Gravity

In this paper, we will analyze a time dependent geometry in a massive theory of gravity. This will be done by analyzing Vaidya space-time in such a massive theory of gravity. As gravitational collapse is a time dependent system, we will analyze it using the Vaidya space-time in massive gravity. The Vainshtein and dRGT mechanisms are used to obtain a ghost free massive gravity, and construct such time dependent solutions. Singularities formed, their nature and strength will be studied in detail. We will also study the thermodynamical aspects of such a geometry by calculating the important thermodynamical quantities for such a system, and analyzing the thermodynamical behavior of such quantities.

Fidelity susceptibility for Lifshitz geometries via Lifshitz Holography

In order to analyze the fidelity susceptibility of non-relativistic field theories, which are important in condensed matter systems, we generalize the proposal to obtain the fidelity susceptibility holographically to Lifshitz geometries. It will be argued that this proposal can be used to study the fidelity susceptibility for various condensed matter systems. To demonstrated this, we will explicitly use this proposal to analyze the fidelity susceptibility for a non-relativistic many-body system, and argue that the fidelity susceptibility of this theory can be holographically obtained from a bulk Lifshitz geometry. In fact, using a Einstein-Dilaton-Maxwell-AdS-Lifshitz theory, we explicitly demonstrated that the fidelity susceptibility obtained from this bulk geometry is equal to the fidelity susceptibility of a bosonic many-body system.

Time-Dependent Strain in Graphene

We will analyse the effect of time-dependent strain on a sheet of graphene by using the field theory approach. It will be demonstrated that in the continuum limit, such a strain will induce a non-abelian gauge field in graphene. We will analyse the effective field theory of such system near the Dirac points and study its topological properties.

Quantum Fluctuations from Thermal Fluctuations in Jacobson Formalism

In the Jacobson formalism general relativity is obtained from thermodynamics. This is done by using the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy-area relation. However, as a black holes will gets smaller, its temperature will increase. This will cause the thermal fluctuations to also increase, and these will in turn correct the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy-area relation. Furthermore, with the reduction in the size of the black hole, quantum effects will also start to dominate. Just as the general relativity can be obtained from thermodynamics in the Jacobson formalism, we propose that the quantum fluctuations to the geometry can be obtained from thermal fluctuations.

Holographic Dark Energy from Fluid/Gravity Duality Constraint by Cosmological Observations

In this paper, we obtain a holographic model of dark energy using the fluid/gravity duality. This model will be dual to a higher dimensional Schwarzschild black hole, and we would use fluid/gravity duality to relate to the parameters of this black hole to such a cosmological model. We will also analyze the thermodynamics of such a solution, and discuss the stability model. Finally, we use cosmological data to constraint the parametric space of this dark energy model. Thus, we will use observational data to perform cosmography for this holographic model based on fluid/gravity duality.
