Nanoscopy of Excitons in Atomically Thin In-Plane Heterostructures with Nanointerfaces

Atomically sharp 2D in-plane heterostructures with nanoscale interfaces provide a powerful platform for tailoring optical and electrical properties at the nanoscale, enabling novel device engineering and the exploration of new physical phenomena. However, direct experimental correlation between local dielectric response and excitonic properties across such interfaces has remained elusive. Here, we probed the nanoscale complex dielectric function and the corresponding localized photoluminescence (PL) modulations in heterostructure domains of lateral monolayer MoxW1-xS2 - WxMo1-xS2, synthesized using a liquid-phase precursor-assisted approach. Near-field nano imaging across the visible-near-infrared range enables real space mapping of sharp amplitude and phase changes at the heterointerface, resolving the local complex dielectric function with nano-meter scale spatial resolution. Excitation energy-dependent nano spectroscopy reveals a reversal of dielectric contrast between Mo-rich and W-rich domains at their respective excitonic resonances, consistent with Lorentz-oscillator fits. Complementary hyperspectral nano-PL mapping resolves the evolution of excitonic emission across the lateral heterointerface, with neutral-exciton intensities varying continuously from W-rich to Mo-rich regions. Effective-medium theory modeling of the imaginary part of the effective dielectric function of the heterostructure as a function of photon energy and Mo filling fraction reproduces the observed excitonic trends, linking the PL evolution to a composition-dependent dielectric response. Together, these results provide direct nanoscale correlation between dielectric and excitonic boundaries in laterally stitched monolayer heterostructures and establish a multimodal near-field spectroscopy framework for probing excitonic phenomena at the nanoscale.

Compasslike states in a thermal reservoir and fragility of their nonclassical features

Superposed photon-added and photon-subtracted squeezed-vacuum states exhibit sub-Planck phase-space structures and metrological potential similar to the original compass states (superposition of four coherent states), but are more closely tied to modern experiments. Here, we observe that these compasslike states are highly susceptible to loss of quantum coherence when placed in contact with a thermal reservoir; that is, the interaction with the thermal reservoir causes decoherence, which progressively suppresses the capacity of these states to exhibit interference traits. We focus on the sub-Planck structures of these states and find that decoherence effects on these features are stronger with increasing the average thermal photon number of the reservoir, the squeezing parameter, or the quantity of added (or subtracted) photons to the squeezed-vacuum states. Furthermore, we observe that the sub-Planck structures of the photon-subtracted case survive comparatively longer in the thermal reservoir than their counterparts in the photon-added case, and prolonged contact with the thermal reservoir converts these compasslike states into a classical state.

Entropy production rate and correlations of cavity magnomechanical system

We present the irreversibility generated by a stationary cavity magnomechanical system composed of a yttrium iron garnet (YIG) sphere with a diameter of a few hundred micrometers inside a microwave cavity. In this system, the magnons, i.e., collective spin excitations in the sphere, are coupled to the cavity photon mode via magnetic dipole interaction and to the phonon mode via magnetostrictive force (optomechanical-like). We employ the quantum phase space formulation of the entropy change to evaluate the steady-state entropy production rate and associated quantum correlation in the system. We find that the behavior of the entropy flow between the cavity photon mode and the phonon mode is determined by the magnon-photon coupling and the cavity photon dissipation rate. Interestingly, the entropy production rate can increase/decrease depending on the strength of the magnon-photon coupling and the detuning parameters. We further show that the amount of correlations between the magnon and phonon modes is linked to the irreversibility generated in the system for small magnon-photon coupling. Our results demonstrate the possibility of exploring irreversibility in driven magnon-based hybrid quantum systems and open a promising route for quantum thermal applications.

Is there charged dark matter bound to ordinary matter? Can it produce observable quantum effects?

Levitated nano-spheres of silica, optically trapped in a Fabry-Perot cavity with a single trapping field and the electrostatic field of a charged ring electrode, are used to infer the potential existence of dark matter particles with infinitesimal charge. These particles are presumed to exist in bulk matter as relics of the primordial Universe. In the absence of infinitesimally charged particles within the chosen nano-sphere, the output light in this setup should be thermal. However, if these particles do exist, the cavity's output light is expected to be squeezed even at room temperature, and one could observe entanglement between light and the nano-sphere's center of mass.

Irreversibility in an optical parametric driven optomechanical system

We investigate the role of nonlinearity via optical parametric oscillator on the entropy production rate and quantum correlations in a hybrid optomechanical system. Specifically, we derive the modified entropy production rate of an optical parametric oscillator placed in the optomechanical cavity which is well described by the two-mode Gaussian state. We find a dramatic deviation in the irreversibility and quantum mutual information for small detuning. Our analysis shows that the system irreversibility can be reduced by choosing the appropriate phase of the self-induced nonlinearity. We further demonstrate that the nonlinearity effect persist for a reasonable range of cavity decay rate.

Strong mechanical squeezing in a microcavity with double quantum wells

In a hybrid quantum system composed of two quantum wells placed inside a cavity with a moving end mirror pumped by bichromatic coherent light, we address the formation of squeezed states of a mechanical resonator. The exciton mode and mechanical resonator interact indirectly via microcavity fields. Under the conditions of the generated coupling, we predict squeezing of the mechanical-mode beyond the resolved side-band regime with existing experimental parameters. Finally, we show that the robustness of this squeezing against thermal fluctuations is important for practical applications of such systems.

Joint quantum estimation of loss and nonlinearity in driven-dissipative Kerr resonators

We address multiparameter quantum estimation for coherently driven nonlinear Kerr resonators in the presence of loss. In particular, we consider the realistic situation in which the parameters of interest are the loss rate and the nonlinear coupling, whereas the amplitude of the coherent driving is known and externally tunable. Our results show that this driven-dissipative model is asymptotically classical, i.e. the Uhlmann curvature vanishes, and the two parameters may be jointly estimated without any additional noise of quantum origin. We also find that the ultimate bound to precision, as quantified by the quantum Fisher information (QFI), increases with the interaction time and the driving amplitude for both parameters. Finally, we investigate the performance of quadrature detection, and show that for both parameters the Fisher information oscillates in time, repeatedly approaching the corresponding QFI.

Enhancement of magnon-photon-phonon entanglement in a cavity magnomechanics with coherent feedback loop

We propose a scheme to improve magnon-photon-phonon entanglement in cavity magnomechanics using coherent feedback loop. In addition, we prove that the steady state and dynamical state of the system is a genuine tripartite entanglement state. We use the logarithmic negativity as the witness of quantum correlations to quantify the entanglement of all bipartite subsystem, and genuine tripartite entanglement via the nonzero minimum residual contangle, in steady and dynamical regime. We consider the feasible experiment parameters to realize the tripartite entanglement. We show that the entanglement can be significantly improved with coherent feedback using a suitable tuning of the reflective parameter of the beam splitter. The entanglement is robust against the thermal effects. Our proposal scheme to improve the entanglement can be of interest to applications in quantum information.

A Local Area Quantum Teleportation Network Based on an Array of Electrically Activated Graphene Waveguide

We present a scheme to generate a continuous variable (CV) multipartite entangled state using an array of plasmonic graphene waveguides that are activated by nonclassical driving microwave modes. Within this scheme, we can exploit the interaction of two light fields coupled to the same microwave mode in each waveguide to produce any type of multipartite Gaussian entangled state. A teleportation network is illustrated using the resultant CV multipartite entangled state. In particular, the proposed setup enables coherent state teleportation across remotely connected nodes with fidelity above a threshold limit of 2/3, providing secure quantum teleportation networking even in the presence of losses.

Continuous-Variable Quantum Teleportation Using Microwave Enabled Plasmonic Graphene Waveguide

We present a scheme to generate continuous variable bipartite entanglement between two optical modes in a hybrid optical-microwave-plasmonic graphene waveguide system. In this scheme, we exploit the interaction of two light fields coupled to the same microwave mode via Plasmonic Graphene Waveguide to generate two-mode squeezing, which can be used for continuous-variable quantum teleportation of the light signals over large distances. Furthermore, we study the teleportation fidelity of an unknown coherent state. The teleportation protocol is robust against the thermal noise associated with the microwave degree of freedom.

Optomechanical cooling with intracavity squeezed light

We analyze the performance of optomechanical cooling of a mechanical resonator in the presence of a degenerate optical parametric amplifier within the optomechanical cavity, which squeezes the cavity light. We demonstrate that this allows to significantly enhance the cooling efficiency via the coherent suppression of Stokes scattering. The enhanced cooling occurs also far from the resolved sideband regime, and we show that this cooling scheme can be more efficient than schemes realized by injecting a squeezed field into the optomechanical cavity.

Prospects of reinforcement learning for the simultaneous damping of many mechanical modes

We apply adaptive feedback for the partial refrigeration of a mechanical resonator, i.e. with the aim to simultaneously cool the classical thermal motion of more than one vibrational degree of freedom. The feedback is obtained from a neural network parametrized policy trained via a reinforcement learning strategy to choose the correct sequence of actions from a finite set in order to simultaneously reduce the energy of many modes of vibration. The actions are realized either as optical modulations of the spring constants in the so-called quadratic optomechanical coupling regime or as radiation pressure induced momentum kicks in the linear coupling regime. As a proof of principle we numerically illustrate efficient simultaneous cooling of four independent modes with an overall strong reduction of the total system temperature.

Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt Bell inequality test in an optomechanical device

We propose here a scheme, based on the measurement of quadrature phase coherence, aimed at testing the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt Bell inequality in an optomechanical setting. Our setup is constituted by two optical cavities dispersively coupled to a common mechanical resonator. We show that it is possible to generate EPR-like correlations between the quadratures of the output fields of the two cavities, and, depending on the system parameters, to observe the violation of the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt inequality.

Suppression of Stokes scattering and improved optomechanical cooling with squeezed light

We develop a theory of optomechanical cooling with a squeezed input light field. We show that Stokes heating transitions can be \emph{fully} suppressed when the driving field is squeezed below the vacuum noise level at an appropriately selected squeezing phase and for a finite amount of squeezing. The quantum backaction limit to laser cooling can be therefore moved down to zero and the resulting final temperature is then solely determined by the ratio between the thermal phonon number and the optomechanical cooperativity parameter, independently of the actual values of the cavity linewidth and mechanical frequency. Therefore driving with a squeezed input field allows to prepare nanomechanical resonators, even with low resonance frequency, in their quantum ground state with a fidelity very close to one.

Feedback Control of Two-mode Output Entanglement and Steering in Cavity Optomechanics

We show that the closed-loop control obtained by feeding back the derivative of the signal from the homodyne measurement of one mode of the light exiting a two-mode optical cavity interacting with a mechanical resonator permits to control and increase optical output entanglement. In particular, the proposed feedback-enhanced setup allows to achieve a fidelity of coherent state teleportation greater than the threshold value of 2/3 for secure teleportation, and two-way steering between the two cavity's output modes down the line in presence of loss, which otherwise would not be possible without feedback

Mechanical EPR entanglement with a finite-bandwidth squeezed reservoir

We describe a scheme for entangling mechanical resonators which is efficient also beyond the resolved sideband regime. It employs the radiation pressure force of the squeezed light produced by a degenerate optical parametric oscillator, which acts as a reservoir of quantum correlations (squeezed reservoir), and it is effective when the spectral bandwidth of the reservoir and the fields frequencies are appropriately selected. It allows for the steady state preparation of mechanical resonatrs in entangled EPR states and can be extended to the preparation of many entangled pairs of resonators which interact with the same light field, in a situation in which the optomechanical system realizes a star-like harmonic network.

Quantum phase gate for optical qubits with cavity quantum optomechanics

We show that a cavity optomechanical system formed by a mechanical resonator simultaneously coupled to two modes of an optical cavity can be used for the implementation of a deterministic quantum phase gate between optical qubits associated with the two intracavity modes. The scheme is realizable for sufficiently strong single-photon optomechanical coupling in the resolved sideband regime, and is robust against cavity losses.

Large Distance Continuous Variables Communication with Concatenated Swaps

The radiation-pressure interaction between electromagnetic fields and mechanical resonators can be used to efficiently entangle two light fields which couple to a single mechanical mode. We analyze the performance of this process under realistic optomechanical conditions, and we determine the effectiveness of the resulting entanglement as a resource for quantum teleportation of continuous-variable light signals, over large distances, mediated by concatenated swap operations. We study the sensitiveness of the protocol to the quality factor of the mechanical systems, and its performance in non-ideal situations in which losses and reduced detection efficiencies are taken into account.
