Relativistic Mean-Field Treatment of Pulsar Kick from Neutrino Propagation in Magnetized Proto-Neutron

We make a perturbative calculation of neutrino scattering and absorption in hot and dense hyperonic neutron-star matter in the presence of a strong magnetic Field. We calculate that the absorption cross-sections in a fully relativistic mean-field theory. We find that there is a remarkable angular dependence, i.e. the neutrino absorption strength is reduced in a direction parallel to the magnetic Field and enhanced in the opposite direction. This asymmetry in the neutrino absorption is estimated to be as much as 2.2 % of the entire neutrino momentum for an interior magnetic Field of 2 x 10^{17} G. The pulsar kick velocities associated with this asymmetry are shown to be comparable to observed velocities.

Big Bang nucleosynthesis in a weakly non-ideal plasma

We propose a correction of the standard Big Bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) scenario to resolve the primordial lithium problem by considering a possibility that the primordial plasma can deviate from the ideal state. In the standard BBN, the primordial plasma is assumed to be ideal, with particles and photons satisfying the Maxwell-Boltzmann and Planck distribution, respectively. We suggest that this assumption of the primordial plasma being ideal might oversimplify the early Universe and cause the lithium problem. We find that deviation of photon distribution from the Planck distribution, which is parameterised with the help of Tsallis statistics, can resolve the primordial lithium problem when the particle distributions of the primordial plasma still follow the MaxwellBoltzmann distribution. We discuss how the primordial plasma can be weakly non-ideal in this specific fashion and its effects on the cosmic evolution.

Fusion reaction of a weakly-bound nucleus with a deformed target

We discuss the role of deformation of the target nucleus in the fusion reaction of the $^{15}$C + $^{232}$Th system at energies around the Coulomb barrier, for which $^{15}$C is a well-known one-neutron halo nucleus. To this end, we construct the potential between $^{15}$C and $^{232}$Th with the double folding procedure, assuming that the projectile nucleus is composed of the core nucleus, $^{14}$C, and a valance neutron. By taking into account the halo nature of the projectile nucleus as well as the deformation of the target nucleus, we simultaneously reproduce the fusion cross sections for the $^{14}$C + $^{232}$Th and the $^{15}$C + $^{232}$Th systems. Our calculation indicates that the net effect of the breakup and the transfer channels is small for this system.

Constraints on Nuclear Saturation Properties from Terrestrial Experiments and Astrophysical Observations of Neutron Stars

Taking into account the terrestrial experiments and the recent astrophysical observations of neutron stars and gravitational-wave signals, we impose restrictions on the equation of state (EoS) for isospin-asymmetric nuclear matter. Using the relativistic mean-field model with SU(3) flavor symmetry, we investigate the impacts of effective nucleon mass, nuclear incompressibility, and slope parameter of nuclear symmetry energy on the nuclear and neutron-star properties. It is found that the astrophysical information of massive neutron stars and tidal deformabilities as well as the nuclear experimental data plays an important role to restrict the EoS for neutron stars. Especially, the softness of the nuclear EoS due to the existence of hyperons in the core gives stringent constraints on those physical quantities. Furthermore, it is possible to put limits on the curvature parameter of nuclear symmetry energy by means of the nuclear and astrophysical calculations.

Deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum with point coupling functional: examples of even-even Nd isotopes

The aim of this work is to develop the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum (DRHBc) theory based on the point-coupling density functionals and extend it to provide a unified description for all even-even nuclei in the nuclear chart by overcoming all possible challenges. The nuclear superfluidity is considered via Bogoliubov transformation. Densities and potentials are expanded in terms of Legendre polynomials to include the axial deformation degrees of freedom. Sophisticated relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov equations in coordinate space are solved in the DiracWoods-Saxon basis to consider the continuum effects. Numerical checks are performed from light nuclei to heavy nuclei. The techniques to construct the DRHBc mass table for even-even nuclei are explored. The DRHBc theory is extended to study heavier nuclei beyond magnesium isotopes. Taking Nd isotopes as examples, the experimental binding energies, two-neutron separation energies, quadrupole deformations, and charge radii are reproduced rather well. The deformation and continuum play essential roles in the description of nuclear masses and prediction of drip-line nuclei. By examining the single-particle levels in the canonical basis and their contributions to the total density, the thickness of the neutron skin, the particles number in continuum, and the Coulomb barrier, the exotic structures including the neutron skin and the proton radioactivity are predicted.

ν\barν -Pair Synchrotron Emission in Neutron-Star Matter based on a Relativistic Quantum Approach

We study the neutrino anti-neutrino pair synchrotron emission from electrons and protons in a relativistic quantum approach. This process occurs only under a strong magnetic field, and it is considered to be one of effective processes for neutron star cooling. In this work we calculate the luminosity of the neutrino anti-neutrino pairs emitted from neutron-star-matter with a magnetic field of about 10^{15} G. We find that the energy loss is much larger than that of the modified Urca process. The neutrino anti-neutrino pair emission processes in strong magnetic fields is expected to contribute significantly to the cooling of the magnetars.

Neutrino self-interaction and MSW effects on the supernova neutrino-process

We calculate the abundances of $^{7}$Li, $^{11}$B, $^{92}$Nb, $^{98}$Tc, $^{138}$La, and $^{180}$Ta produced by neutrino $(ν)$ induced reactions in a core-collapse supernova explosion. We consider the modification by $ν$ self-interaction ($ν$-SI) near the neutrinosphere and the Mikheyev-Smirnov-Wolfenstein effect in outer layers for time-dependent neutrino energy spectra. Abundances of $^{7}$Li and heavy isotopes $^{92}$Nb, $^{98}$Tc and $^{138}$La are reduced by a factor of 1.5-2.0 by the $ν$-SI. In contrast, $^{11}$B is relatively insensitive to the $ν$-SI. We find that the abundance ratio of heavy to light nucleus, $^{138}$La/$^{11}$B, is sensitive to the neutrino mass hierarchy, and the normal mass hierarchy is more likely to be consistent with the solar abundances.

Effects of the Metallicity on Li and B Production in Supernova Neutrino Process

The neutrino process ($ν$-process) for the production of 7Li and 11B in core-collapse supernovae (SNe) is extensively investigated. Initial abundances of s-nuclei and other physical conditions are derived from an updated calculation of the SN 1987A progenitor. The nuclear reaction network including neutrino reactions is constructed with the variable order Bader-Deuflhard integration method. We find that yields of 7Li and 11B significantly depend on the stellar metallicity while they are independent of the weak s-process during the stellar evolution. When the metallicity is high, there are more neutron absorbers, i.e., 56Fe, 14N (from initial CNO nuclei), and 54Fe, and the neutron abundance is small during the $ν$-process. Since 7Be is predominantly destroyed via 7Be(n,p)7Li, a change in the neutron abundance results in different 7Be yields. Then, the calculated yield ratio 7Li/11B=0.93 for the solar metallicity is larger than that for the SN 1987A 7Li/11B=0.80 by 16 % in the inverted mass hierarchy case. We analyze contributions of respective reactions as well as abundance evolution, and clarify the $ν$-process of 7Li and 11B.

The viability of the 3+1 neutrino model in the supernova neutrino process

Adopting the 3+1 neutrino mixing parameters by the IceCube and shortbase line experiments, we investigate the sterile-active neutrino oscillation effects on the supernova neutrino process. For the sterile neutrino ($ν_s$), we study two different luminosity models. First, we presume that the $ν_s$ does not interact with other particles through the standard interactions apart from the oscillation with the active neutrinos. Second, we consider that $ν_s$ can be directly produced by $ν_e$ scattering with matter. In both cases, we find that the pattern of neutrino oscillations can be changed drastically by the $ν_s$ in supernova environments. Especially multiple resonances occur, and consequently affect thermal neutrino-induced reaction rates. As a result, $^7$Li, $^7$Be, $^{11}$B, $^{11}$C, $^{92}$Nb, $^{98}$Tc and $^{138}$La yields in the $ν$-process are changed. Among those nuclei, $^7$Li and $^{11}$B yields can be constrained by the analysis of observed SiC X grains. Based on the meteoritic data, we conclude that the second model can be allowed while first model is excluded. The viability of the second model depends on the sterile neutrino temperature and the neutrino mass hierarchy.

Supernova Neutrino Process of Li and B Revisited

We reinvestigate effects of neutrino oscillations on the production of 7Li and 11B in core-collapse supernovae (SNe). During the propagation of neutrinos from the proto-neutron star, their flavors change and the neutrino reaction rates for spallation of 12C and 4He are affected. In this work corrected neutrino spallation cross sections for 4He and 12C are adopted. Initial abundances involving heavy s-nuclei and other physical conditions are derived in a new calculation of the SN 1987A progenitor in which effects of the progenitor metallicity are included. A dependence of the SN nucleosynthesis and final yields of 7Li and 11B on the neutrino mass hierarchy are shown in several stellar locations. In the normal hierarchy case, the charged current reaction rates of electron neutrinos are enhanced, and yields of proton-rich nuclei, along with 7Be and 11C, are increased. In the inverted hierarchy case, the charged current reaction rates of electron antineutrinos are enhanced, and yields of neutron-rich nuclei, along with 7Li and 11B, are increased. We find that variation of the metallicity modifies the yields of 7Li, 7Be, 11B, and 11C. This effect is caused by changes in the neutron abundance during SN nucleosynthesis. Therefore, accurate calculations of Li and B production in SNe should take into account the metallicity of progenitor stars.

Fock contributions to nuclear symmetry energy and its slope parameter based on Lorentz-covariant decomposition of nucleon self-energies

Using relativistic Hartree-Fock (RHF) approximation, we study the effect of Fock terms on the nuclear properties not only around the saturation density, $ρ_{0}$, but also at higher densities. In particular, we investigate how the momentum dependence due to the exchange contribution affects the nuclear symmetry energy and its slope parameter, using the Lorentz-covariant decomposition of nucleon self-energies in an extended version of the RHF model, in which the exchange terms are adjusted so as to reproduce the single-nucleon potential at $ρ_{0}$. We find that the Fock contribution suppresses the kinetic term of nuclear symmetry energy at the densities around and beyond $ρ_{0}$. It is noticeable that not only the isovector-vector ($ρ$) meson but also the isoscalar mesons ($σ, ω$) and pion make significant influence on the potential term of nuclear symmetry energy through the exchange diagrams. Furthermore, the exchange contribution prevents the slope parameter from increasing monotonically at high densities.

Further signatures to support the tetraquark mixing framework for the two light-meson nonets

In this work, we investigate additional signatures to support the tetraquark mixing framework that has been recently proposed as a possible structure for the two nonets, namely $a_0 (980)$, $K_0^* (800)$, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0 (980)$ in the light nonet, $a_0 (1450)$, $K_0^* (1430)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0 (1500)$ in the heavy nonet. First, we advocate that the two nonets form the flavor nonet approximately satisfying the Gell-Mann--Okubo mass relation. Then we reexamine the mass ordering generated from the tetraquark nonets and show that this mass ordering is satisfied by the two nonets although the ordering in the heavy nonet is marginal. The marginal mass ordering however can be regarded as another signature for tetraquarks because it can be explained partially by the hyperfine masses calculated from the tetraquark mixing framework. The tetraquark mixing parameters are found to be independent of isospins giving additional support for the formation of the flavor nonets. In addition, we discuss the other approaches like two-quark pictures or meson-meson bound states, and their possible limitations in explaining the two nonets. As a peculiar signature distinguished from other approaches, we investigate the fall-apart coupling strengths into two vector mesons from our tetraquarks. Coupling strengths into the two-vector modes are found to enhance strongly in the heavy nonet while they are suppressed in the light nonet. The coupling ratios, which depend on the isospin channel, are found to be huge around $\sim 15$. This trend in the two-vector modes, which is opposite to that in the two-pseudoscalar fall-apart modes, can provide another testing ground for the tetraquark mixing framework. Some experimental evidences related to the phenomena are discussed particularly from the resonances belonging to the heavy nonet.

Extended optical model analyses of $^{11}$Be+$^{197}$Au with dynamic polarization potentials

We discuss angular distributions of elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections for $^{11}$Be + $^{197}$Au system, which were measured at energies below and around Coulomb barrier. To this end, we employ Coulomb dipole excitation (CDE) and long-range nuclear (LRN) potential to take into account long range effects by halo nuclear system and break up effects by weakly-bound structure. We then analyze recent experimental data including 3-channes i.e. elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections, at $E_{\textrm{c.m.}}$=29.6 MeV and $E_{\text{c.m.}}$=37.1 MeV. From the extracted parameter sets using $χ^{2}$ analysis, we successfully reproduce the experimental angular distributions of the elastic, inelastic, and breakup cross sections for $^{11}$Be+$^{197}$Au system simultaneously. Also we discuss the necessity of LRN potential around Coulomb barrier from analyzed experimental data.

Competition of deformation and neutron-proton pairing in Gamow-Teller transitions for $^{56, 58}$Ni and $^{62,64}$Ni

We investigated effects of neutron-proton ($np$) pairing correlations comprising isoscalar (IS) and isovector (IV) component on Gamow-Teller (GT) transitions of $^{56, 58,62,64}$Ni by taking into account nuclear deformation in a deformed Woods-Saxon mean field. Our GT calculations based on a deformed Bardeen-Cooper-Schriffer (DBCS) approach have been performed within a deformed quasi-particle random phase approximation (DQRPA) which explicitly includes the deformation as well as all kinds of pairing correlations not only at the DBCS but also at the DQRPA stage. Competition of these two effects, the deformation and the IS spin-triplet and IV spin-singlet component of the $np$ pairing, is shown to be significant for understanding the GT strength distributions of Ni isotopes.

Spectral shape analysis for electron antineutrino oscillation study by using $^{8}$Li generator with $^{252}$Cf source

Existence of hypothetical fourth neutrino, so-called sterile neutrino, is one of open issues in the particle and neutrino physics. This fourth neutrino is a candidate for explaining some anomalies reported in LSND, MiniBoone, reactor experiments, and gallium experiments. To search for the existence of the sterile neutrino, we report detailed analysis of a feasible experiment for short baseline electron antineutrino (${\barν}_{e}$) disappearance study, in which a ${\barν}_{e}$ source from $^{8}$Li generator is considered under non-accelerator system. For $^{8}$Li production, we suggest to use $^{252}$Cf source as an intense neutron emitter, by which one can produce $^{8}$Li isotope through $^{7}$Li(n,$γ$)$^{8}$Li reaction, effectively. Using the $^{8}$Li generator, one does not need any accelerator or reactor facilities because the generator can be placed on any present and/or planned neutrino detectors as closely as possible. For the effect of the possible sterile neutrinos, we estimate expected neutrino flux and event rates from the neutrino source scheme, and show neutrino disappearance features and possible reaction rate changes by the sterile neutrino using the spectral shape analysis.

Tetraquark mixing framework for isoscalar resonances in light mesons

Recently, a tetraquark mixing framework has been proposed for light mesons and applied more or less successfully to the isovector resonances, $a_0(980), a_0(1450)$, as well as to the isodoublet resonances, $K^*_0(800), K^*_0(1430)$. In this work, we present a more extensive view on the mixing framework and extend this to the isoscalar resonances, $f_0 (500)$, $f_0(980)$, $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0(1500)$. Tetraquarks in this framework can have two spin configurations containing either spin-0 diquark or spin-1 diquark and each configuration forms a nonet in flavor space. The two spin configurations are found to mix strongly through the color-spin interactions. Their mixtures, which diagonalize the hyperfine masses, can generate the physical resonances constituting the two nonets, which, in fact, coincide roughly with the experimental observation. We identify that $f_0 (500)$, $f_0(980)$ are the isoscalar members in the light nonet, and $f_0 (1370)$, $f_0(1500)$ are the similar members in the heavy nonet. This means that the spin configuration mixing, as it relates the corresponding members in the two nonets, can generate $f_0 (500), f_0 (1370)$ among the members in light mass, and $f_0(980), f_0(1500)$ in heavy mass. The complication arises because the isoscalar members of each nonet are subject to an additional flavor mixing known as OZI rule so that $f_0 (500), f_0 (980)$, and similarly $f_0 (1370), f_0 (1500)$, are the mixture of two isoscalar members belonging to an octet and a singlet in SU$_f$(3). The tetraquark mixing framework including the flavor mixing is tested for the isoscalar resonances in terms of the mass splitting and the fall-apart decay modes.

Effects of sterile neutrino and extra-dimension on big bang nucleosynthesis

By assuming the existence of extra-dimensional sterile neutrinos in big bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) epoch, we investigate the sterile neutrino ($ν_{\rm s}$) effects on the BBN and constrain some parameters associated with the $ν_{\rm s}$ properties. First, for cosmic expansion rate, we take into account effects of a five-dimensional bulk and intrinsic tension of the brane embedded in the bulk, and constrain a key parameter of the extra dimension by using the observational element abundances. Second, effects of the $ν_{\rm s}$ traveling on or off the brane are considered. In this model, the effective mixing angle between a $ν_{\rm s}$ and an active neutrino depends on energy, which may give rise to a resonance effect on the mixing angle. Consequently, reaction rate of the $ν_{\rm s}$ can be drastically changed during the cosmic evolution. We estimated abundances and temperature of the $ν_{\rm s}$ by solving the rate equation as a function of temperature until the sterile neutrino decoupling. We then find that the relic abundance of the $ν_{\rm s}$ is drastically enhanced by the extra-dimension and maximized for a characteristic resonance energy $E_{\rm res}\gtrsim 0.01$ GeV. Finally, some constraints related to the $ν_{\rm s}$, mixing angle and mass difference, are discussed in detail with the comparison of our BBN calculations corrected by the extra-dimensional $ν_{\rm s}$ to observational data on light element abundances.

A new scheme for short baseline electron antineutrino disappearance study

A new scheme for the short baseline electron antineutrino (${\barν}_{e}$) disappearance study is investigated. We propose to use an intense neutron emitter, $^{252}$Cf, which produces $^{8}$Li isotope through the $^{7}$Li(n,$γ$)$^{8}$Li reaction; $^{8}$Li is a ${\barν}_{e}$ emitter via $β^{-}$ decay. Because this ${\barν}_{e}$ source needs neither accelerator nor reactor facilities, the ${\barν}_{e}$ can be placed on any neutrino detectors as closely as possible. This short baseline circumstance with a suitable detector enables us to study the existence of possible sterile neutrinos, in particular, on 1 eV mass scale. Also, complementary comparison studies among different neutrino detectors can become feasible by using ${\barν}_{e}$ from the $^{8}$Li source. As an example, applications to hemisphere and cylinder shape scintillator detectors are performed in detail with the expectation signal modification by the sterile neutrino. Sensitivities to mass and mixing angles of sterile neutrinos are also presented for comparison with those of other neutrino experiments.
