Atlas of dynamic spectra of fast radio burst FRB 20201124A

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are highly dispersed millisecond-duration radio bursts, of which the physical origin is still not fully understood. FRB 20201124A is one of the most actively repeating FRBs. In this paper, we present the collection of 1863 burst dynamic spectra of FRB 20201124A measured with the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST). The current collection, taken from the observation during the FRB active phase from April to June 2021, is the largest burst sample detected in any FRB so far. The standard PSRFITs format is adopted, including dynamic spectra of the burst, and the time information of the dynamic spectra, in addition, mask files help readers to identify the pulse positions are also provided.

Overview of the Observing System and Initial Scientific Accomplishments of the East Asian VLBI Network (EAVN)

The East Asian VLBI Network (EAVN) is an international VLBI facility in East Asia and is operated under mutual collaboration between East Asian countries, as well as part of Southeast Asian and European countries. EAVN currently consists of 16 radio telescopes and three correlators located in China, Japan, and Korea, and is operated mainly at three frequency bands, 6.7, 22, and 43 GHz with the longest baseline length of 5078 km, resulting in the highest angular resolution of 0.28 milliarcseconds at 43 GHz. One of distinct capabilities of EAVN is multi-frequency simultaneous data reception at nine telescopes, which enable us to employ the frequency phase transfer technique to obtain better sensitivity at higher observing frequencies. EAVN started its open-use program in the second half of 2018, providing a total observing time of more than 1100 hours in a year. EAVN fills geographical gap in global VLBI array, resulting in enabling us to conduct contiguous high-resolution VLBI observations. EAVN has produced various scientific accomplishments especially in observations toward active galactic nuclei, evolved stars, and star-forming regions. These activities motivate us to initiate launch of the 'Global VLBI Alliance' to provide an opportunity of VLBI observation with the longest baselines on the earth.

3D Bosons, 3-Jack polynomials and affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$

3D (3 dimensional) Young diagrams are a generalization of 2D Young diagrams. In this paper, We consider 3D Bosons and 3-Jack polynomials. We associate three parameters $h_1,h_2,h_3$ to $y,x,z$-axis respectively. 3-Jack polynomials are polynomials of $P_{n,j}, n\geq j$ with coefficients in $\mathbb C(h_1,h_2,h_3)$, which are the generalization of Schur functions and Jack polynomials to 3D case. Similar to Schur functions, 3-Jack polynomials can also be determined by the vertex operators and the Pieri formulas.

Evolution of Spin Period and Magnetic Field of the Crab Pulsar: Decay of the Braking Index by the Particle Wind Flow Torque

The evolutions of a neutron star's rotation and magnetic field (B-field) have remained unsolved puzzles for over half a century. We ascribe the rotational braking torques of pulsar to both components, the standard magnetic dipole radiation (MDR) and particle wind flow ( MDR + Wind, hereafter named MDRW), which we apply to the Crab pulsar (B0531 + 21), the only source with a known age and long-term continuous monitoring by radio telescope. Based on the above presumed simple spin-down torques, we obtain the exact analytic solution on the rotation evolution of the Crab pulsar, together with the related outcomes as described below: (1) unlike the constant characteristic B-field suggested by the MDR model, this value for the Crab pulsar increases by a hundred times in 50~kyr while its real B-field has no change; (2) the rotational braking index evolves from $\sim$3 to 1 in the long-term, however, it drops from 2.51 to 2.50 in $\sim$45 years at the present stage, while the particle flow contributes approximately 25% of the total rotational energy loss rate; (3) strikingly, the characteristic age has the maximum limit of $\sim$10 kyr, meaning that it is not always a good indicator of real age. Furthermore, we discussed the evolutionary path of the Crab pulsar from the MDR to the wind domination by comparing it with the possible wind braking candidate pulsar PSR J1734-3333.

Jack polynomials, $\hbar$-dependent KP hierarchy and affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$

In this paper, we discuss the relations between the Jack polynomials, $\hbar$-dependent KP hierarchy and affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$. We find that $α=\hbar^2$ and $h_1=\hbar, \ h_2=-\hbar^{-1}$, where $α$ is the parameter in Jack polynomials, and $h_1,\ h_2$ are the parameters in affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$. Then the vertex operators which are in Jack polynomials are the same with that in $\hbar$-KP hierarchy, and the Jack polynomials can be used to describe the tau functions of the $\hbar$-KP hierarchy.

Symmetric deformed 2D/3D Hurwitz-Kontsevich model and affine Yangian of gl(1)

Since the ($β$-deformed) Hurwitz Kontsevich model corresponds to the special case of affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$. In this paper, we construct two general cases of the $β$-deformed Hurwitz Kontsevich model. We find that the $W$-operators of these two models can be represented by the generators $e_k,\ f_k,ψ_k$ of the affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$, and the eigenstates (the symmetric functions $Y_λ$ and 3-Jack polynomials) can be obtained from the 3D Young diagram representation of affine Yangian of ${\mathfrak{gl}}(1)$. Then we can see that the $W$-operators and eigenstates are symmetric about the permutations of coordinate axes.

EAVN Astrometry toward the Extreme Outer Galaxy: Kinematic distance with the proper motion of G034.84-00.95

We aim to reveal the structure and kinematics of the Outer-Scutum-Centaurus (OSC) arm located on the far side of the Milky Way through very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) astrometry using KaVA, which is composed of KVN (Korean VLBI Network) and VERA (VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry). We report the proper motion of a 22 GHz H$_{2}$O maser source, which is associated with the star-forming region G034.84$-$00.95, to be ($μ_α \rm{cos}δ$, $μ_δ$) = ($-$1.61$\pm$0.18, $-$4.29$\pm$0.16) mas yr$^{-1}$ in equatorial coordinates (J2000). We estimate the 2D kinematic distance to the source to be 18.6$\pm$1.0 kpc, which is derived from the variance-weighted average of kinematic distances with LSR velocity and the Galactic-longitude component of the measured proper motion. Our result places the source in the OSC arm and implies that G034.84$-$00.95 is moving away from the Galactic plane with a vertical velocity of $-$38$\pm$16 km s$^{-1}$. Since the H I supershell GS033+06$-$49 is located at a kinematic distance roughly equal to that of G034.84$-$00.95, it is expected that gas circulation occurs between the outer Galactic disk around G034.84$-$00.95 with a Galactocentric distance of 12.8$^{+1.0}_{-0.9}$ kpc and halo. We evaluate possible origins of the fast vertical motion of G034.84$-$00.95, which are (1) supernova explosions and (2) cloud collisions with the Galactic disk. However, neither of the possibilities are matched with the results of VLBI astrometry as well as spatial distributions of H II regions and H I gas.

Remote preparation and manipulation of squeezed light

Remote state preparation enables one to create and manipulate a quantum state based on the shared entanglement between distant nodes. Here, we experimentally demonstrate remote preparation and manipulation of squeezed light. By performing homodyne projective measurement on one mode of the continuous variable entangled state at Alice's station, a squeezed state is created at Bob's station. Moreover, rotation and displacement operations are applied on the prepared squeezed state by changing the projective parameters on Alice's state. We also show that the remotely prepared squeezed state is robust against loss and N-1 squeezed states can be remotely prepared based on a N-mode continuous variable Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger-like state. Our results verify the entanglement-based model used in security analysis of quantum key distribution with continuous variables and have potential application in remote quantum information processing.

Luminosity distribution of fast radio bursts from CHIME/FRB Catalog 1 by means of the updated Macquart relation

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are extremely strong radio flares lasting several micro- to milliseconds and come from unidentified objects at cosmological distances, most of which are only seen once. Based on recently published data in the CHIME/FRB Catalog 1 in the frequency bands 400-800 MHz, we analyze 125 apparently singular FRBs with low dispersion measure (DM) and find that the distribution of their luminosity follows a lognormal form according to statistical tests. In our luminosity measurement, the FRB distance is estimated by using the Macquart relation which was obtained for 8 localized FRBs, and we find it still applicable for 18 sources after adding the latest 10 new localized FRBs. In addition, we test the validity of the luminosity distribution up to the Macquart relation and find that the lognormal form feature decreases as the uncertainty increases. Moreover, we compare the luminosity of these apparent non-repeaters with that of the previously observed 10 repeating FRBs also at low DM, noting that they belong to different lognormal distributions with the mean luminosity of non-repeaters being two times greater than that of repeaters. Therefore, from the two different lognormal distributions, different mechanisms for FRBs can be implied.

Interstellar scintillation and polarization of PSR B0656+14 in the Monogem Ring

High sensitivity interstellar scintillation and polarization observations of PSR~B0656+14 made at three epochs over a year using the Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical radio Telescope (FAST) show that the scattering is dominated by two different compact regions. We identify the one nearer to the pulsar with the shell of the Monogem Ring, thereby confirming the association. The other is probably associated with the Local Bubble. We find that the observed position angles of the pulsar spin axis and the space velocity are significantly different, with a separation of $19\fdg3\pm$0\fdg8, inconsistent with a previously published near-perfect alignment of $1\degr\pm 2\degr$. The two independent scattering regions are clearly defined in the secondary spectra which show two strong forward parabolic arcs. The arc curvatures imply that the scattering screens corresponding to the outer and inner arcs are located approximately 28~pc from PSR B0656+14 and 185~pc from the Earth, respectively. Comparison of the observed Doppler profiles with electromagnetic simulations shows that both scattering regions are mildly anisotropic. For the outer arc, we estimate the anisotropy $A_R$ to be approximately 1.3, with the scattering irregularities aligned parallel to the pulsar velocity. For the outer arc, we compare the observed delay profiles with delay profiles computed from a theoretical strong-scattering model. Our results suggest that the spatial spectrum of the scattering irregularities in the Monogem Ring is flatter than Kolmogorov, but further observations are required to confirm this.

Magneto-optical Kerr effect and magnetoelasticity in weak ferromagnetic RuF$_4$ monolayer

Considerable research interest has been attracted to noncollinear magnetic structures for their intriguing physics and promising applications. In this work, based on relativistic density functional theory, we reveal the interesting magnetic order and relevant properties in monolayer RuF$_4$, which can be exfoliated from its bulk phase. Although the spins on Ru ions are almost antiferromagnetically aligned between nearest-neighbors, weak ferromagnetism is generated because of the antisymmetric Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction as well as the single-ion anisotropy. A prominent magneto-optical Kerr effect can be observed for this antiferromagnet, similar to those of regular strong ferromagnets. In addition, a uniaxial strain can induce a ferroelastic switching together with the in-plane rotation of spin direction, giving rise to a strong intrinsic magnetoelasticity. Our work not only suggests an alternative direction for two-dimensional magnetic materials, but also provides hints to future devices based on antiferromagnetic magnetoelastic or magneto-optical materials.

Insights into the nature of the $X(3872)$ through B meson decays

We study the decays $B_{c,u,d}\to X(3872)P$ in the perturbative QCD (PQCD) approach, where the puzzling resonance $X(3872)$ is involved and $P$ represents a light pseudoscalar meson $K$ and $π$. Assuming the $X(3872)$ as a $1^{++}$ charmonium state, we find the following results: (a) The branching ratios for the decays $B^+_c\to X(3872)π^+$ and $B^+_c\to X(3872) K^+$ agree with the results predicted by the covariant light-front approach within errors, but are larger than those given by the generalized factorization approach; (b) The branching ratio for the decay $B^+\to X(3872)K^+$ is predicted as $(3.8^{+1.1}_{-1.0})\times10^{-4}$, which is smaller than the previous PQCD calculation result, but still slightly larger than the upper limits set by Belle and BaBar. So we suggest that the decays $B^{0,+}\to X(3872)K^{0,+}$ should be precisely measured by the running LHCb and Belle II experiments, which is very helpful to probe the inner structure of the $X(3872)$; (c) Compared with the decays $B_{u,d}\to X(3872)K$, the decays $B_{u,d}\to X(3872)π$ have much smaller branching ratios, which drop to as low as $10^{-6}$; (d) The direct CP violations for these considered decays are very small, only $10^{-3}\sim 10^{-2}$, because the penguin contributions are loop suppressed compared with the tree contributions. Testing the results for the branching ratios and the CP violations including the implicit $SU(3)$ and isospin symmetries in these decays by experiments is helpful to probe the nature of the $X(3872)$.

Detection of 16 small glitches in 9 pulsars

Timing observations from the Nanshan 26-m radio telescope for nine pulsars between 2000 and 2014 have been used to search for glitches. The data span for nine pulsars ranges from 11.6 to 14.2 years. From the total of 114 yr of pulsar rotational history, 16 new glitches were identified in 9 pulsars. Glitch parameters were measured by fitting the timing residuals data. All 16 glitches have a small fractional size. Six new glitches have been detected in PSR J1833-0827, making it another frequent glitching pulsar. Some of the 16 glitches may experience exponential or linear recovery, but it is unlikely for us to make further analyses with the large gap in the data set. All the glitch rates obtained from Nanshan are higher than that from Jodrell Bank Observatory. The small glitch size and high glitch rate could possibly attribute to the high observation cadence.

Experimental demonstration of remotely creating Wigner negativity via quantum steering

Non-Gaussian states with Wigner negativity are of particular interest in quantum technology due to their potential applications in quantum computing and quantum metrology. However, how to create such states at a remote location remains a challenge, which is important for efficiently distributing quantum resource between distant nodes in a network. Here, we experimentally prepare optical non-Gaussian state with negative Wigner function at a remote node via local non-Gaussian operation and shared Gaussian entangled state existing quantum steering. By performing photon subtraction on one mode, Wigner negativity is created in the remote target mode. We show that the Wigner negativity is sensitive to loss on the target mode, but robust to loss on the mode performing photon subtraction. This experiment confirms the connection between the remotely created Wigner negativity and quantum steering. As an application, we present that the generated non-Gaussian state exhibits metrological power in quantum phase estimation.

An improved Liouville type theorem for Beltrami flows

In this note, we improved the Liouville type theorem for the Beltrami flows. Two different methods are used to prove it. One is the monotonicity method, and the other is proof by contradiction. The conditions that we proposed on Beltrami flows are significantly weaker than previously known conditions.

Periodic repeating fast radio bursts: interaction between a magnetized neutron star and its planet in an eccentric orbit

Fast radio bursts (FRBs) are mysterious transient phenomena. The study of repeating FRBs may provide useful information about their nature due to their redetectability. The two most famous repeating sources are FRBs 121102 and 180916, with a period of 157 days and 16.35 days, respectively. Previous studies suggest that the periodicity of FRBs is likely associated with neutron star (NS) binary systems. Here we introduce a new model which proposes that periodic repeating FRBs are due to the interaction of a NS with its planet in a highly elliptical orbit. The periastron of the planet is very close to the NS so that it would be partially disrupted by tidal force every time it passes through the periastron. Fragments generated in the process could interact with the compact star through the Alfvén wing mechanism and produce FRBs. The model can naturally explain the repeatability of FRBs with a period ranging from a few days to several hundred days, but it generally requires that the eccentricity of the planet's orbit should be large enough. Taking FRBs 121102 and 180916 as examples, it is shown that the main features of the observed repeating behaviors can be satisfactorily accounted for.

PP-MSVSR: Multi-Stage Video Super-Resolution

Different from the Single Image Super-Resolution(SISR) task, the key for Video Super-Resolution(VSR) task is to make full use of complementary information across frames to reconstruct the high-resolution sequence. Since images from different frames with diverse motion and scene, accurately aligning multiple frames and effectively fusing different frames has always been the key research work of VSR tasks. To utilize rich complementary information of neighboring frames, in this paper, we propose a multi-stage VSR deep architecture, dubbed as PP-MSVSR, with local fusion module, auxiliary loss and re-align module to refine the enhanced result progressively. Specifically, in order to strengthen the fusion of features across frames in feature propagation, a local fusion module is designed in stage-1 to perform local feature fusion before feature propagation. Moreover, we introduce an auxiliary loss in stage-2 to make the features obtained by the propagation module reserve more correlated information connected to the HR space, and introduce a re-align module in stage-3 to make full use of the feature information of the previous stage. Extensive experiments substantiate that PP-MSVSR achieves a promising performance of Vid4 datasets, which achieves a PSNR of 28.13dB with only 1.45M parameters. And the PP-MSVSR-L exceeds all state of the art method on REDS4 datasets with considerable parameters. Code and models will be released in PaddleGAN\footnote{https://github.com/PaddlePaddle/PaddleGAN.}.
