Phase transitions in Born-Infeld AdS black holes in D-dimensions

In this paper, we have investigated phase transitions in arbitrary spacetime dimensions for Born-Infeld AdS black holes. The phase transition points are characterised from the divergence of heat capacity of the black hole. Two well established techniques, namely, the Ehrenfest scheme and the Ruppeiner state space geometry approach are used to identify the order of phase transition the black hole undergoes. It is observed that the results obtained from these two methods agree with each other. Our analysis reveals that the phase transition is of second order. It is also observed from the variation of the heat capacity with entropy that the small unstable black hole phase becomes more and more stable with increase in the spacetime dimensions. We speculate that this dependence of the stability of the black hole on the spacetime dimension can put an upper limit to the dimension of spacetime from the physical condition of the improbability of the formation of a small stable black hole. We have also derived a Smarr relation in D-spacetime dimensions using scaling arguments and first law of black hole thermodynamics which includes the cosmological constant and the Born-Infeld parameters as thermodynamic variables.

Magnetotransport as diagnostic of spin reorientation: kagome ferromagnet as a case study

While in most ferro or antiferromagnetic materials there is a unique crystallographic direction, including crystallographically equivalent directions, in which the moments like to point due to spin-orbit coupling, in some, the direction of the spin reorients as a function of a certain physical parameter such as temperature, pressure etc. Fe3Sn2 is a kagome ferromagnet with an onset of ferromagnetism below 650 K, and undergoes a spin reorientation near 150 K. While it is known that the moments in Fe3Sn2 point perpendicular to the kagome plane at high temperatures and parallel to the kagome plane at low temperatures, how the distribution of the magnetic domains in the two different spin orientations evolve throughout the spin reorientation is not well known. Furthermore, while there have been various reports on the magnetotransport properties in the Hall configuration, the angular dependence of magnetoresistance has not been studied so far. In this paper, we have examined the spin reorientation by using anisotropic magnetoresistivity in detail, exploiting the dependence of the resistivity on the direction between magnetization and applied current. We are able to determine the distribution of the magnetic domains as a function of temperature between 360 K to 2 K and the reorientation transition to peak at 120 K. We discover that both out of plane and in plane phases coexist at temperatures around the spin reorientation, indicative of a first order transition. Although the volume of the magnetic domains in the different phases sharply changes at the spin reorientation transition, the electronic structure for a specific magnetization is not influenced by the spin reorientation. In contrast, we observe an electronic transition around 40 K, hitherto unreported, and reflected in both the zero-field resistivity and anisotropic resistivity.

Diagonal Subalgebras of Residual Intersections

Let ${\sf k}$ be a field, $S$ be a bigraded ${\sf k}$-algebra, and $S_Δ$ denote the diagonal subalgebra of $S$ corresponding to $Δ= \{ (cs,es) \; | \; s \in \mathbb{Z} \}$. It is know that the $S_Δ$ is Koszul for $c,e \gg 0$. In this article, we find bounds for $c,e$ for $S_Δ$ to be Koszul, when $S$ is a geometric residual intersection. Furthermore, we also study the Cohen-Macaulay property of these algebras. Finally, as an application, we look at classes of linearly presented perfect ideals of height two in a polynomial ring, show that all their powers have a linear resolution, and study the Koszul, and Cohen-Macaulay property of the diagonal subalgebras of their Rees algebras.

Magnetic and electrical transport signatures of uncompensated moments in epitaxial thin films of the non-collinear antiferromagnet Mn$_{3}$Ir

Non-collinear antiferromagnets, with either an L1$_{2}$ cubic crystal lattice (e.g. Mn$_{3}$Ir and Mn$_{3}$Pt) or a D0$_{19}$ hexagonal structure (e.g. Mn$_{3}$Sn and Mn$_{3}$Ge), exhibit a number of novel phenomena of interest to topological spintronics. Amongst the cubic systems, for example, tetragonally distorted Mn$_{3}$Pt exhibits an intrinsic anomalous Hall effect (AHE). However, Mn$_{3}$Pt only enters a non-collinear magnetic phase close to the stoichiometric composition and at suitably large thicknesses. Therefore, we turn our attention to Mn$_{3}$Ir, the material of choice for use in exchange bias heterostructures. In this paper, we investigate the magnetic and electrical transport properties of epitaxially grown, face-centered-cubic $γ$-Mn$_{3}$Ir thin films with (111) crystal orientation. Relaxed films of 10 nm thickness exhibit an ordinary Hall effect, with a hole-type carrier concentration of (2.24 $\pm$ 0.08) $\times$ 10$^{23}$ cm$^{-3}$. On the other hand, TEM characterization demonstrates that ultrathin 3 nm films grow with significant in-plane tensile strain. This may explain a small remanent moment, observed at low temperatures, shown by XMCD spectroscopy to arise from uncompensated Mn spins. Of the order 0.02 $μ_{B}$ / atom, this dominates electrical transport behavior, leading to a small AHE and negative magnetoresistance. These results are discussed in terms of crystal microstructure and chiral domain behavior, with spatially resolved XML(C)D-PEEM supporting the conclusion that small antiferromagnetic domains, < 20 nm in size, of differing chirality account for the absence of observed Berry curvature driven magnetotransport effects.

An Energy-driven Network Function Virtualization for Multi-domain Software Defined Networks

Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) in Software Defined Networks (SDN) emerged as a new technology for creating virtual instances for smooth execution of multiple applications. Their amalgamation provides flexible and programmable platforms to utilize the network resources for providing Quality of Service (QoS) to various applications. In SDN-enabled NFV setups, the underlying network services can be viewed as a series of virtual network functions (VNFs) and their optimal deployment on physical/virtual nodes is considered a challenging task to perform. However, SDNs have evolved from single-domain to multi-domain setups in the recent era. Thus, the complexity of the underlying VNF deployment problem in multi-domain setups has increased manifold. Moreover, the energy utilization aspect is relatively unexplored with respect to an optimal mapping of VNFs across multiple SDN domains. Hence, in this work, the VNF deployment problem in multi-domain SDN setup has been addressed with a primary emphasis on reducing the overall energy consumption for deploying the maximum number of VNFs with guaranteed QoS. The problem in hand is initially formulated as a "Multi-objective Optimization Problem" based on Integer Linear Programming (ILP) to obtain an optimal solution. However, the formulated ILP becomes complex to solve with an increasing number of decision variables and constraints with an increase in the size of the network. Thus, we leverage the benefits of the popular evolutionary optimization algorithms to solve the problem under consideration. In order to deduce the most appropriate evolutionary optimization algorithm to solve the considered problem, it is subjected to different variants of evolutionary algorithms on the widely used MOEA framework (an open source java framework based on multi-objective evolutionary algorithms).

Epitaxial growth, structural characterization and exchange bias of non-collinear antiferromagnetic Mn$_{3}$Ir thin films

Antiferromagnetic materials are of great interest for spintronics. Here we present a comprehensive study of the growth, structural characterization, and resulting magnetic properties of thin films of the non-collinear antiferromagnet Mn$_{3}$Ir. Using epitaxial engineering on MgO (001) and Al$_{2}$O$_{3}$ (0001) single crystal substrates, we control the growth of cubic $γ$-Mn$_{3}$Ir in both (001) and (111) crystal orientations, and discuss the optimization of growth conditions to achieve high-quality crystal structures with low surface roughness. Exchange bias is studied in bilayers, with exchange bias fields as large as -29 mT (equivalent to a unidirectional anisotropy constant of 11.5 nJ cm$^{-2}$) measured in Mn$_{3}$Ir (111) / permalloy heterostructures at room temperature. In addition, a distinct dependence of blocking temperature on in-plane crystallographic direction in Mn$_{3}$Ir (001) / Py bilayers is observed. These findings are discussed in the context of chiral antiferromagnetic domain structures, and will inform progress towards topological antiferromagnetic spintronic devices.

FeatureAnalytics: An approach to derive relevant attributes for analyzing Android Malware

Ever increasing number of Android malware, has always been a concern for cybersecurity professionals. Even though plenty of anti-malware solutions exist, a rational and pragmatic approach for the same is rare and has to be inspected further. In this paper, we propose a novel two-set feature selection approach based on Rough Set and Statistical Test named as RSST to extract relevant system calls. To address the problem of higher dimensional attribute set, we derived suboptimal system call space by applying the proposed feature selection method to maximize the separability between malware and benign samples. Comprehensive experiments conducted on a dataset consisting of 3500 samples with 30 RSST derived essential system calls resulted in an accuracy of 99.9%, Area Under Curve (AUC) of 1.0, with 1% False Positive Rate (FPR). However, other feature selectors (Information Gain, CFsSubsetEval, ChiSquare, FreqSel and Symmetric Uncertainty) used in the domain of malware analysis resulted in the accuracy of 95.5% with 8.5% FPR. Besides, empirical analysis of RSST derived system calls outperform other attributes such as permissions, opcodes, API, methods, call graphs, Droidbox attributes and network traces.

Uses of Sampling Techniques & Inventory Control with Capacity Constraints

The main aim of the present book is to suggest some improved estimators using auxiliary and attribute information in case of simple random sampling and stratified random sampling and some inventory models related to capacity constraints. This volume is a collection of five papers, written by six co-authors (listed in the order of the papers): Dr. Rajesh Singh, Dr. Sachin Malik, Dr. Florentin Smarandache, Dr. Neeraj Kumar, Mr. Sanjey Kumar & Pallavi Agarwal. In the first chapter authors suggest an estimator using two auxiliary variables in stratified random sampling for estimating population mean. In second chapter they proposed a family of estimators for estimating population means using known value of some population parameters. In Chapter third an almost unbiased estimator using known value of some population parameter(s) with known population proportion of an auxiliary variable has been used. In Chapter four the authors investigates a fuzzy economic order quantity model for two storage facility. The demand, holding cost, ordering cost, storage capacity of the own - warehouse are taken as trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. In Chapter five a two-warehouse inventory model deals with deteriorating items, with stock dependent demand rate and model affected by inflation under the pattern of time value of money over a finite planning horizon. Shortages are allowed and partially backordered depending on the waiting time for the next replenishment. The purpose of this model is to minimize the total inventory cost by using the genetic algorithm. This book will be helpful for the researchers and students who are working in the field of sampling techniques and inventory control.

Note on vanishing power sums of roots of unity

For a given positive integers $m$ and $\ell$, we give a complete list of positive integers $n$ for which their exist $m$th roots of unity $x_1,\dots,x_n \in \mathbb{C}$ such that $x_1^{\ell} + \cdots + x_n^{\ell}=0$. This extends the earlier result of Lam and Leung on vanishing sums of roots of unity. Furthermore, we prove that for which integers $n$ with $2 \leq n \leq m$, there are distinct $m$th roots of unity $x_1,\dots,x_n \in \mathbb{C}$ such that $x_1^{\ell} + \cdots + x_n^{\ell}=0$.

Deep Learning-Based Image Kernel for Inductive Transfer

We propose a method to classify images from target classes with a small number of training examples based on transfer learning from non-target classes. Without using any more information than class labels for samples from non-target classes, we train a Siamese net to estimate the probability of two images to belong to the same class. With some post-processing, output of the Siamese net can be used to form a gram matrix of a Mercer kernel. Coupled with a support vector machine (SVM), such a kernel gave reasonable classification accuracy on target classes without any fine-tuning. When the Siamese net was only partially fine-tuned using a small number of samples from the target classes, the resulting classifier outperformed the state-of-the-art and other alternatives. We share class separation capabilities and insights into the learning process of such a kernel on MNIST, Dogs vs. Cats, and CIFAR-10 datasets.

DAG-width of Control Flow Graphs with Applications to Model Checking

The treewidth of control flow graphs arising from structured programs is known to be at most six. However, as a control flow graph is inherently directed, it makes sense to consider a measure of width for digraphs instead. We use the so-called DAG-width and show that the DAG-width of control flow graphs arising from structured (goto-free) programs is at most three. Additionally, we also give a linear time algorithm to compute the DAG decomposition of these control flow graphs. One consequence of this result is that parity games (and hence the $μ$-calculus model checking problem), which are known to be tractable on graphs of bounded DAG-width, can be solved efficiently in practice on control flow graphs.

Weakening of the spin density wave gap at low temperatures in SrFe$_2$As$_2$ single crystals

We report on temperature dependent scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy studies of undoped SrFe$_{2}$As$_{2}$ single crystals from 6 K to 292 K. Resistivity data show spin density wave (SDW) transition at T$_{SDW}$ $\approx$ 205 K and the superconducting transition at $\sim$ 21 K while magnetic susceptibility does not show any superconductivity. Conductance maps and local tunneling spectra show an electronically homogeneous surface at all studied temperatures. Tunnel spectra correlate well with the SDW transition with a depression in the density of states near the Fermi energy below T$_{SDW}$. On further lowering the temperature, the width of this partial energy gap associated with the SDW decreases. Using the anti-correlation of superconducting phase with SDW, we interpret this gap weakening as a precursor to superconductivity. This may give rise to a facile nucleation of superconductivity near defects.

Electronic inhomogeneities in the superconducting phase of CaFe1.96Ni0.04As2 single crystals

Superconductivity in Iron-Arsenic based pnictides emerges in close proximity to an antiferromagnetic (AFM)ordered parent state and the AFM phase overlaps with superconducting (SC) phase in some pnictides for certain range of doping. CaFe2-xNixAs2 belongs to this category, where both the phases overlap. Here we use scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy to investigate the local electronic properties of uderdoped CaFe1.96Ni0.04As2 single crystals in the vicinity of the boundary of the two phases. Both resistivity and magnetic measurements show that a tiny portion (~ 1.2 %) of this compound becomes superconductor below the SC onset temperature TC ~ 15 K. Topographic images show reasonably flat surface with signatures of atomic resolution. High temperature spectra are spatially homogeneous and show signatures of spin density wave (SDW) gap with a finite density of states near the Fermi energy. Below TC, spectra show significant spatial inhomogeneity with a SDW gap everywhere but at some locations we also see an asymmetric or symmetric depression in ~ +/- 5 meV energy range together with the SDW gap. Inhomogeneity reduces significantly as the temperature goes above TC and disappears completely far above TC. These observations are discussed in terms of an inhomogeneous electronic phase that may exist due to the vicinity of this composition to the SC dome boundary on the underdoped side of the phase diagram.

Prime ideals and regular sequences of symmetric polynomials

Let S=K[x_1,...,x_n] be a polynomial ring. Denote by $p_a$ the power sum symmetric polynomial x_1^a+...+x_n^a. We consider the following two questions: Describe the subsets $A \subset \mathbb{N}$ such that the set of polynomials $p_a$ with $a \in A$ generate a prime ideal in S or the set of polynomials $p_a$ with $a \in A$ is a regular sequence in S. We produce a large families of prime ideals by exploiting Serre's criterion for normality [4, Theorem 18.15] with the help of arithmetic considerations, vanishing sums of roots of unity [9]. We also deduce several other results concerning regular sequences of symmetric polynomials.

Koszul property of diagonal subalgebras

Let S=K[x_1,...,x_n] be a polynomial ring over a field K and I a homogeneous ideal in S generated by a regular sequence f_1,f_2,...,f_k of homogeneous forms of degree d. We study a generalization of a result of Conca, Herzog, Trung, and Valla [9] concerning Koszul property of the diagonal subalgebras associated to I. Each such subalgebra has the form K[(I^e)_{ed+c}], where c and e are positive integers. For k=3, we extend [9, Corollary 6.10] by proving that K-algebra K[(I^e)_{ed+c}] is Koszul as soon as c >= d/2. We also extend [9, Corollary 6.10] in another direction by replacing the polynomial ring with a Koszul ring.

Regular sequences of power sums and complete symmetric polynomials

In this article, we carry out the investigation for regular sequences of symmetric polynomials in the polynomial ring in three and four variable. Any two power sum element in $\mathbb{C}[x_1,x_2,...,x_n]$ for $n \geq 3$ always form a regular sequence and we state the conjecture when $p_a,p_b,p_c$ for given positive integers $a<b<c$ forms a regular sequence in $\mathbb{C}[x_1,x_2,x_3,x_4]$. We also provide evidence for this conjecture by proving it in special instances. We also prove that any sequence of power sums of the form $p_{a}, p_{a+1},..., p_{a+ m-1},p_b$ with $m <n-1$ forms a regular sequence in $\mathbb{C}[x_1,x_2,...,x_n]$. We also provide partial evidence in support of conjecture's given by Conca, Krattenthaler and Watanabe on regular sequences of symmetric polynomials.

Quillen-Suslin theory for a structure theorem for the Elementary Symplectic Group

A new set of elementary symplectic elements is described, It is shown that these also generate the elementary symplectic group {\rm ESp}$_{2n}(R)$. These generators are more symmetrical than the usual ones, and are useful to study the action of the elementary symplectic group on unimodular rows. Also, an alternate proof of, {\rm ESp}$_{2n}(R)$ is a normal subgroup of {\rm Sp}$_{2n}(R)$, is shown using the Local Global Principle of D. Quillen for the new set of generators.
