Identifying high power breakdowns in accelerating structures with acoustic sensors

To increase the energy of Particle Accelarators to reach the requirements of the Linear Collider or of the Super KEK-B factory, new accelerating structures with a higher accelerating gradient need to be developped. These accelerating structures are often affected by high power breakdowns. Knowing the exact location where these breakdowns occured helps to redesign the structure and improve its performances. This can be done with acoustic sensors.

FEATHER: A Fast Intra-pulse Feedback System for the JLC

Ground motion at the Future JLC detector may affect beam alignment and cause huge luminosity loss. The FEATHER (FEedback AT High Energy Requirements) project addresses this problem by designing a fast intra-pulse feedback system that will correct the observed beam offset.

Searches at HERA

Searches for physics beyond the Standard Model have been performed in high-energy $e^{\pm}p$ collisions at HERA. No significant deviation from the Standard Model has been observed while searching for contact interactions, extra dimensions, leptoquarks, R-parity violating squarks and excited fermions. Exclusion limits have been inferred which extend or complement bounds from other colliders. The H1 collaboration has observed a puzzling excess of events with an high $P_t$ isolated lepton and missing transverse momentum, and interpretation as flavour changing neutral currents has been explored.
