Rough homogenization for Langevin dynamics on fluctuating Helfrich surfaces

In this paper, we study different scaling rough path limit regimes in space and time for the Langevin dynamics on a quasi-planar fluctuating Helfrich surfaces. The convergence results of the processes were already proven in the work by Duncan, Elliott, Pavliotis and Stuart (2015). We extend this work by proving the convergence of the Itô and Stratonovich rough path lift. For the rough path limit, there appears, typically, an area correction term to the Itô iterated integrals, and in certain regimes to the Stratonovich iterated integrals. This yields additional information on the homogenization limit and enables to conclude on homogenization results for diffusions driven by the Brownian motion on the membrane using the continuity of the Itô-Lyons map in rough paths topology.

Quantitative heat kernel estimates for diffusions with distributional drift

We consider the stochastic differential equation on $\mathbb{R}^d$ given by $$ \, \mathrm{d}X_t = b(t,X_t) \, \mathrm{d}t + \, \mathrm{d} B_t, $$ where $B$ is a Brownian motion and $b$ is considered to be a distribution of regularity $ > -\frac12$. We show that the martingale solution of the SDE has a transition kernel $Γ_t$ and prove upper and lower heat kernel bounds for $Γ_t$ with explicit dependence on $t$ and the norm of $b$.

Quantitative Convergence of the Filter Solution for Multiple Timescale Nonlinear Systems with Coarse-Grain Correlated Noise

In this paper we prove a rate of convergence for the continuous time filtering solution of a multiple timescale correlated nonlinear system to a lower dimensional filtering equation in the limit of large timescale separation. Correlation is assumed to occur between the slow signal and observation processes. Convergence is almost sure in the weak topology. An asymptotic expansion of the dual process for the solution to the Zakai equation, and probabilistic representation using backward doubly stochastic differential equations is leveraged to prove the result.

Longtime asymptotics of the two-dimensional parabolic Anderson model with white-noise potential

We consider the parabolic Anderson model (PAM) $\partial_t u = \frac12 Δu + ξu$ in $\mathbb R^2$ with a Gaussian (space) white-noise potential $ξ$. We prove that the almost-sure large-time asymptotic behaviour of the total mass at time $t$, written $U(t)$, is given by $\log U(t)\sim χt \log t$ for $t \to \infty$, with the deterministic constant $χ$ identified in terms of a variational formula. In earlier work of one of the authors this constant was used to describe the asymptotic behaviour $\boldsymbol λ_1(Q_t)\simχ\log t$ of the principal eigenvalue $\boldsymbolλ_1(Q_t)$ of the Anderson operator with Dirichlet boundary conditions on the box $Q_t= [-\frac{t}{2},\frac{t}{2}]^2$.

A simple construction of the dynamical $Φ^4_3$ model

The $Φ^4_3$ equation is a singular stochastic PDE with important applications in mathematical physics. Its solution usually requires advanced mathematical theories like regularity structures or paracontrolled distributions, and even local well-posedness is highly nontrivial. Here we propose a multiplicative transformation to reduce the periodic $Φ^4_3$ equation to a well-posed random PDE. This leads to a simple and elementary proof of global well-posedness, which only relies on Schauder estimates, the maximum principle, and basic estimates for paraproducts, and in particular does not need regularity structures or paracontrolled distributions.

C-infinity regularization of ODEs perturbed by noise

We study ODEs with vector fields given by general Schwartz distributions, and we show that if we perturb such an equation by adding an "infinitely regularizing" path, then it has a unique solution and it induces an infinitely smooth flow of diffeomorphisms. We also introduce a criterion under which the sample paths of a Gaussian process are infinitely regularizing, and we present two processes which satisfy our criterion. The results are based on the path-wise space-time regularity properties of local times, and solutions are constructed using the approach of Catellier-Gubinelli based on non-linear Young integrals.

One-dimensional game-theoretic differential equations

We provide a very brief introduction to typical paths and the corresponding Itô type integration. Relying on this robust Itô integration, we prove an existence and uniqueness result for one-dimensional differential equations driven by typical paths with non-Lipschitz continuous coefficients in the spirit of Yamada--Watanabe as well as an approximation result in the spirit of Doss--Sussmann.

Approximation of the Filter Equation for Multiple Timescale, Correlated, Nonlinear Systems

This paper considers the approximation of the continuous time filtering equation for the case of a multiple timescale (slow-intermediate, and fast scales) that may have correlation between the slow-intermediate process and the observation process. The signal process is considered fully coupled, taking values in $\mathbb{R^{m}} \times \mathbb{R^{n}}$ and without periodicity assumptions on coefficients. It is proved that in the weak topology, the solution of the filtering equation converges in probability to a solution of a lower dimensional averaged filtering equation in the limit of large timescale separation. The method of proof uses the perturbed test function approach (method of corrector) to handle the intermediate timescale in showing tightness and characterization of limits. The correctors are solutions of Poisson equations.

A Rough Super-Brownian Motion

We study the scaling limit of a branching random walk in static random environment in dimension $d=1,2$ and show that it is given by a super-Brownian motion in a white noise potential. In dimension $1$ we characterize the limit as the unique weak solution to the stochastic PDE: \[\partial_t μ= (Δ{+} ξ) μ{+} \sqrt{2νμ} \tildeξ\] for independent space white noise $ξ$ and space-time white noise $\tildeξ$. In dimension $2$ the study requires paracontrolled theory and the limit process is described via a martingale problem. In both dimensions we prove persistence of this rough version of the super-Brownian motion.

Multidimensional SDE with distributional drift and Lévy noise

We solve multidimensional SDEs with distributional drift driven by symmetric, $α$-stable Lévy processes for $α\in (1,2]$ by studying the associated (singular) martingale problem and by solving the Kolmogorov backward equation. We allow for drifts of regularity $(2-2α)/3$, and in particular we go beyond the by now well understood "Young regime", where the drift must have better regularity than $(1-α)/2$. The analysis of the Kolmogorov backward equation in the low regularity regime is based on paracontrolled distributions. As an application of our results we construct a Brox diffusion with Lévy noise. Additive functionals as rough paths

We consider additive functionals of stationary Markov processes and show that under Kipnis-Varadhan type conditions they converge in rough path topology to a Stratonovich Brownian motion, with a correction to the Levy area that can be described in terms of the asymmetry (non-reversibility) of the underlying Markov process. We apply this abstract result to three model problems: First we study random walks with random conductances under the annealed law. If we consider the Ito rough path, then we see a correction to the iterated integrals even though the underlying Markov process is reversible. If we consider the Stratonovich rough path, then there is no correction. The second example is a non-reversible Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, while the last example is a diffusion in a periodic environment. As a technical step we prove an estimate for the p-variation of stochastic integrals with respect to martingales that can be viewed as an extension of the rough path Burkholder-Davis-Gundy inequalities for local martingale rough paths of Friz et al to the case where only the integrator is a local martingale.

The KPZ Equation on the Real Line

We prove existence and uniqueness of distributional solutions to the KPZ equation globally in space and time, with techniques from paracontrolled analysis. Our main tool for extending the analysis on the torus to the full space is a comparison result that gives quantitative upper and lower bounds for the solution. We then extend our analysis to provide a path-by-path construction of the random directed polymer measure on the real line and we derive a variational characterisation of the solution to the KPZ equation.

Paracontrolled distributions on Bravais lattices and weak universality of the 2d parabolic Anderson model

We develop a discrete version of paracontrolled distributions as a tool for deriving scaling limits of lattice systems, and we provide a formulation of paracontrolled distribution in weighted Besov spaces. Moreover, we develop a systematic martingale approach to control the moments of polynomials of i.i.d. random variables and to derive their scaling limits. As an application, we prove a weak universality result for the parabolic Anderson model: We study a nonlinear population model in a small random potential and show that under weak assumptions it scales to the linear parabolic Anderson model.

The infinitesimal generator of the stochastic Burgers equation

We develop a martingale approach for a class of singular stochastic PDEs of Burgers type (including fractional and multi-component Burgers equations) by constructing a domain for their infinitesimal generators. It was known that the domain must have trivial intersection with the usual cylinder test functions, and to overcome this difficulty we import some ideas from paracontrolled distributions to an infinite dimensional setting in order to construct a domain of controlled functions. Using the new domain, we are able to prove existence and uniqueness for the Kolmogorov backward equation and the martingale problem. We also extend the uniqueness result for "energy solutions" of the stochastic Burgers equation of [GP18a] to a wider class of equations.

A Littlewood-Paley description of modelled distributions

We exhibit a fundamental link between Hairer's theory of regularity structures and the paracontrolled calculus of Gubinelli, Imkeller and Perkowski. By using paraproducts we provide a Littlewood-Paley description of the spaces of modelled distributions in regularity structures that is similar to the Besov description of classical Hölder spaces.

Pathwise integration and change of variable formulas for continuous paths with arbitrary regularity

We construct a pathwise integration theory, associated with a change of variable formula, for smooth functionals of continuous paths with arbitrary regularity defined in terms of the notion of $p$-th variation along a sequence of time partitions. For paths with finite $p$-th variation along a sequence of time partitions, we derive a change of variable formula for $p$ times continuously differentiable functions and show pointwise convergence of appropriately defined compensated Riemann sums. Results for functions are extended to regular path-dependent functionals using the concept of vertical derivative of a functional. We show that the pathwise integral satisfies an `isometry' formula in terms of $p$-th order variation and obtain a `signal plus noise' decomposition for regular functionals of paths with strictly increasing $p$-th variation. For less regular ($C^{p-1}$) functions we obtain a Tanaka-type change of variable formula using an appropriately defined notion of local time. These results extend to multidimensional paths and yield a natural higher-order extension of the concept of `reduced rough path'. We show that, while our integral coincides with a rough-path integral for a certain rough path, its construction is canonical and does not involve the specification of any rough-path superstructure.

Optimal Investment Decision Under Switching regimes of Subsidy Support

We address the problem of making a managerial decision when the investment project is subsidized, which results in the resolution of an infinite-horizon optimal stopping problem of a switching diffusion driven by either an homogeneous or an inhomogeneous continuous-time Markov chain. We provide a characterization of the value function (and optimal strategy) of the optimal stopping problem. On the one hand, broadly, we can prove that the value function is the unique viscosity solution to a system of HJB equations. On the other hand, when the Markov chain is homogeneous and the switching diffusion is one-dimensional, we obtain stronger results: the value function is the difference between two convex functions.
