Observation of Higher-Order Hybrid Bright-Dark Soliton Complexes in an NPR Mode-Locked Fiber Laser

Hybrid bright-dark soliton complexes offer profound insights into multi-component nonlinear wave dynamics, yet their systematic generation via artificial saturable absorbers remains unexplored. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a comprehensive hierarchy of higher-order hybrid soliton architectures within a single nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR)-based erbium-doped fiber laser. Continuous tuning of intracavity polarization states and pump power enables reproducible access to soliton structures, with stable mode-locking confirmed at 8 MHz and a signal-to-noise ratio exceeding 72 dB. Cross-phase modulation (XPM)-mediated inter-component coupling and birefringence-induced polarization evolution collectively govern the observed soliton multiplicity, with NPR's inherent tunability proving decisive in accessing higher-order hybrid soliton regimes unexplored in prior studies. These findings expand the fundamental taxonomy of dissipative solitons and establish NPR-based fiber lasers as a reconfigurable platform for complex nonlinear wave engineering.

Bidirectional Fourier-Enhanced Deep Operator Network for Spatio-Temporal Propagation in Multi-Mode Fibers

Ultrashort-pulse propagation in graded-index multimode fibers is a highly nonlinear phenomenon driven by several physical processes. Although conventional numerical solvers can reproduce this behavior with high fidelity, their computational cost limits real-time prediction, rapid parameter exploration, experimental feedback, and especially inverse retrieval of input fields from measured outputs. In this work, we introduce an operator learning framework that learns both the forward and inverse propagation operators within a single unified architecture. By combining spectral filters for spatio-temporal representations with Fourier-embedded conditioning on physical parameters, the model functions as a fast surrogate capable of accurately predicting complex field evolution on previously unseen cases. To our knowledge, this represents one of the first demonstrations of a bidirectional operator-learning framework applied to ultrashort-pulse multimode fiber propagation. The resulting architecture enables orders-of-magnitude speedup over numerical solvers, paving the way for real-time beam diagnostics, data-driven design of complex input fields, and closed-loop spatio-temporal control. Moreover, the same framework can potentially be applied to a wide variety of wave systems exhibiting analogous nonlinear and dispersive effects in optics and beyond.

Dynamic Beam Shaping Using a Wavelength-Adaptive Diffractive Neural Network for Laser-Assisted Manufacturing

Laser-based manufacturing has emerged as a promising alternative to conventional thermal and mechanical processing owing to its precision, versatility, and ability to work across diverse materials. In particular, tailoring the spatial intensity distribution of laser beams on the fly is pivotal for ensuring keyhole stability, minimizing defects, and enhancing processing quality. To address this need, we propose a multifunctional optical platform designed through a Diffractive Neural Network that provides wavelength adaptability for three industrially relevant wavelengths - 915 nm, 1064 nm, and 1550 nm - while dynamically generating distinct beam profiles at specified propagation planes. The proposed platform not only enables static beam shaping but also supports dynamic beam engineering, including programmable sequencing between profiles, which is highly desirable for optimal manufacturing solutions. With its multifunctionality and adaptability, the DNN-based architecture establishes a transformative pathway for next-generation laser manufacturing, aligning with the industrial revolution while unlocking opportunities in biomedical optics, free-space communications, and sensing.
