Neutralino dark matter in brane world cosmology

The thermal relic density of the neutralino dark matter in the brane world cosmology is studied. Since the expansion law at a high energy regime in the brane world cosmology is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, the resultant relic density can be altered. It has been found that, if the five dimensional Planck mass $M_5$ is lower than $10^4$ TeV, the brane world cosmological effect is significant at the decoupling time and the resultant relic density is enhanced. We calculate the neutralino relic density in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) and show that the allowed region is dramatically modified from the one in the standard cosmology and eventually disappears as $M_5$ is decreasing. We also find a new lower bound on $M_5 \gtrsim 600$ TeV based on the neutralino dark matter hypothesis, namely the lower bound in order for the allowed region of the neutralino dark matter to exist.

Perturbative SO(10) Grand Unification

We consider a phenomenologically viable SO(10) grand unification model of the unification scale $M_G$ around $10^{16} $ GeV which reproduces the MSSM at low energy and allows perturbative calculations up to the Planck scale $M_P$ or the string scale $M_{st}$. Both requirements strongly restrict a choice of Higgs representations in a model. We propose a simple SO(10) model with a set of Higgs representations $\{2 \times {\bf 10} + {\bf \bar{16}} + {\bf 16} + {\bf 45} \}$ and show its phenomenological viability. This model can indeed reproduce the low-energy experimental data relating the charged fermion masses and mixings. Neutrino oscillation data can be consistently incorporated in the model, leading to the right-handed neutrino mass scale $M_R \simeq M_G^2/M_P$. Furthermore, there exists a parameter region which results the proton life time consistent with the experimental results.

Yukawa Coupling Structure in Intersecting D-brane Models

The structure of Yukawa coupling matrices is investigated in type IIA T^6/(Z_2 x Z_2) orientifold models with intersecting D-branes. Yukawa coupling matrices are difficult to be realistic in the conventional models in which the generation structure emerges by the multiple intersection of D-branes in the factorized T^6 = T^2 x T^2 x T^2. We study the new type of flavor structure, where Yukawa couplings are dynamically generated, and show this type of models lead to nontrivial structures of Yukawa coupling matrices, which can be realistic.

A brane world cosmological solution to the gravitino problem

We investigate the thermal production of gravitinos in the context of the brane world cosmology. Since the expansion law is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, the Boltzmann equation for the gravitino production is altered. We find that the late-time gravitino abundance is proportional to the ``transition temperature'', at which the modified expansion law in the brane world cosmology is connecting with the standard one, rather than the reheating temperature after inflation as in the standard cosmology. This means that, even though the reheating temperature is very high, we can avoid the overproduction of gravitinos by taking the transition temperature low enough. Therefore, the gravitino problem can be solved.

Top Spin Correlations in Theories with Large Extra-Dimensions at the Large Hadron Collider

In theories with large extra dimensions, we study the top spin correlations at the Large Hadron Collider. The s-channel process mediated by graviton Kaluza-Klein modes contributes to the top-antitop pair production in addition to the Standard Model processes, and affects the resultant top spin correlations. We calculated the full density matrix for the top-antitop pair production. With the fundamental scale of the extra dimensional theory below 2 TeV, we find a sizable deviation of the top spin correlations from the Standard Model one.

Higgs pair production at a linear e+e- collider in models with large extra dimensions

In this paper, we will derive the cross section formula for the Higgs pair production at a linear $e^+e^-$ collider in models with large extra dimensions and study the feasibility of its measurement through realistic Monte Carlo simulations. Since the process has essentially no Standard Model background, once produced, it will provide us with a very clean signature of physics beyond the Standard Model. Moreover, since the final state particles are spinless, the spin 2 of the intermediate virtual KK gravitons has to be conserved by the orbital angular momentum of the Higgs pair. This results in a very characteristic angular distribution of the final states. Taking into account finite detector acceptance and resolutions as well as initial state radiation and beamstrahlung, we demonstrate in this paper that, given a sufficiently high center of mass energy, the angular distribution of the Higgs pair is indeed measurable at the linear collider and will allow us to prove the spin 2 nature of the KK gravitons exchanged in the s-channel.

Neutrino Magnetic Moments and Minimal Supersymmetric SO(10) Model

We examine supersymmetric contributions to transition magnetic moments of Majorana neutrinos. We first give the general formula for it. In concrete evaluations, informations of neutrino mass matrix elements including CP phases are necessary. Using unambiguously determined neutrino mass matrices in recently proposed minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model, the transition magnetic moments are calculated. The resultant neutrino magnetic moments are found to be roughly an order of magnitude larger than those calculated in the standard model extended to incorporate the see-saw mechanism.

Detailed Analysis of Proton Decay Rate in the Minimal Supersymmetric SO(10) Model

We consider the minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model, where only one {\bf 10} and one $\bar{\bf 126}$ Higgs multiplets have Yukawa couplings with matter multiplets. This model has the high predictive power for the Yukawa coupling matrices consistent with the experimental data of the charged fermion mass matrices, and all the Yukawa coupling matrices are completely determined once a few parameters in the model are fixed. This feature is essential for definite predictions to the proton decay rate through the dimension five operators. We analyze the proton decay rate for the dominant decay modes $p \to K^{+} \barν$ by including as many free parameters as possible and varying them. There are two free parameters in the Yukawa sector, while five in the Higgsino sector. It is found that an allowed region exists when the free parameters in the Higgs sector are tuned so as to cancel the proton decay amplitude. The resultant proton lifetime is proportional to $1/\tan^2 β$ and the allowed region eventually disappears as $\tan β$ becomes large.

The Effect of Extra Dimension on Dark Matter

We investigate the thermal relic density of a cold dark matter in the brane world cosmology. Since the expansion law in a high energy regime is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, if the dark matter decouples in such a high energy regime its relic number density is affected by this modified expansion law. We derive analytic formulas for the number density of the dark matter. It is found that the resultant relic density is characterized by the ``transition temperature'' at which the modified expansion law in the brane world cosmology is connecting with the standard one, and can be considerably enhanced compared to that in the standard cosmology, if the transition temperature is low enough. The implication to the neutralino dark matter also is mentioned.

Decoupling Supersymmetry/Higgs without fine-tuning

We propose a simple superpotential for the Higgs doublets, where the electroweak symmetry is broken at the supersymmetric level. We show that, for a class of supersymmetry breaking scenarios, the electroweak scale can be stable even though the supersymmetry breaking scale is much higher than it. Therefore, all the superpartners and the Higgs bosons can be decoupled from the electroweak scale, nevertheless no fine-tuning is needed. We present a concrete model, as an existence proof of such a model, which generates the superpotential dynamically. According to supersymmetry breaking scenarios to be concerned, various phenomenological applications of our model are possible. For example, based on our model, the recently proposed ``split supersymmetry'' scenario can be realized without fine-tuning. If the electroweak scale supersymmetry breaking is taken into account, our model provides a similar structure to the recently proposed ``fat Higgs'' model and the upper bound on the lightest Higgs boson mass can be relaxed.

Warped Supersymmetric Radius Stabilization

A simple model of extra-dimensional radius stabilization in a supersymmetric Randall-Sundrum model is presented. In our model, we introduce only a bulk hypermultiplet and source terms on each boundary branes. With an appropriate choice of model parameters, we find that the radius can be stabilized by supersymmetric vacuum conditions. Since the radion mass can be much larger than the gravitino mass and the supersymmetry breaking scale, the radius stability is ensured even with the supersymmetry breaking. We find a parameter region where unwanted scalar masses induced by quantum corrections through the bulk hypermultiplet and a bulk gravity multiplet are suppressed and the anomaly mediation contributions dominate.

Supersymmetric Radius Stabilization in Warped Extra Dimensions

We propose a simple model of extra-dimensional radius stabilization in a supersymmetric Randall-Sundrum model. In our model, we introduce only a bulk hypermultiplet and source terms (tadpole terms) on each boundary branes. With appropriate choice of model parameters, we find that the radius can be stabilized by supersymmetric vacuum conditions. Since the radion mass can be much larger than the gravitino mass and even the original supersymmetry breaking scale, radius stability is ensured even in the presence of supersymmetry breaking. We find a parameter region in which unwanted scalar masses induced by quantum corrections through the bulk hypermultiplet and a bulk gravity multiplet are suppressed and the anomaly mediation contribution dominates.

General Formulation for Proton Decay Rate in Minimal Supersymmetric SO(10) GUT

We make an explicit formulation for the proton decay rate in the minimal renormalizable supersymmetric (SUSY) SO(10) model. In this model, the Higgs fields consist of ${\bf 10}$ and ${\bf \bar{126}}$ SO(10) representations in the Yukawa interactions with matter and of ${\bf 10}$, ${\bf \bar{126}}$, ${\bf 126}$, and ${\bf 210}$ representations in the Higgs potential. We present all the mass matrices for the Higgs fields contained in this minimal SUSY SO(10) model. Finally, we discuss the threshold effects of these Higgs fields on the gauge coupling unification.

Lepton Flavor Violating Processes and Muon g-2 in Minimal Supersymmetric SO(10) Model

In the recently proposed minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model, the neutrino Dirac Yukawa coupling matrix, together with all the other fermion mass matrices, is completely determined once free parameters in the model are appropriately fixed so as to accommodate the recent neutrino oscillation data. Using this unambiguous neutrino Dirac Yukawa couplings, we calculate the lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes and the muon g-2 assuming the minimal supergravity scenario. The resultant rates of the LFV processes are found to be large enough to well exceed the proposed future experimental bound, while the magnitude of the muon g-2 can be within the recent result by Brookhaven E821 experiment. Furthermore, we find that there exists a parameter region which can simultaneously realize the neutralino cold dark matter abundance consistent with the recent WMAP data.

Neutrino oscillation data versus minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model

We reconsider the minimal supersymmetric SO(10) model, where only one {\bf 10} and one $\bar{\bf 126}$ Higgs multiplets have Yukawa couplings with matter multiplets. The model is generalized to include CP-violating phases, and examined how well its predictions can meet the current neutrino oscillation data. Using the electroweak scale data about six quark masses, three angles and one CP-phase in the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix and three charged-lepton masses and given $\tan β$ (the ratio of vacuum expectation values of a pair of Higgs doublets), we obtain the Pontecorvo-Maki-Nakagawa-Sakata matrix and the ratio, $Δm_\odot^2/Δm_\oplus^2 $, as functions of only one free parameter in the model. In our analysis, one-loop renormalization group equations for the gauge couplings, the Yukawa couplings and the effective dimension-five operator are used to connect the data between the electroweak scale and the grand unification scale. Fixing the free parameter appropriately, we find, for example, $\sin^2 2 θ_{12} \sim 0.72$, $\sin^2 2 θ_{23} \sim 0.90$, $\sin^2 2 θ_{13} \sim 0.16$ and $Δm_\odot^2/Δm_\oplus^2 \sim 0.19$ with $\tan β= 45$, which are in agreement with the current neutrino oscillation data.

Almost No-Scale Supergravity

We construct an explicit 5-dimensional supergravity model that realizes the "no scale" mechanism for supersymmetry breaking with no unstable moduli. Supersymmetry is broken by a constant superpotential localized on a brane, and the radion is stabilized by Casimir energy from supergravity and massive hypermultiplets. If the standard model gauge and matter fields are localized on a brane, then visible sector supersymmetry breaking is dominated by gravity loops and flavor-violating hypermultiplet loops, and gaugino masses are smaller than scalar masses. We present a realistic model in which the the standard model gauge fields are partly localized. In this model visible sector supersymmetry breaking is naturally gaugino mediated, while masses of the gravitino and gravitational moduli are larger than the weak scale.

Alternative Signature of TeV Strings

In string theory, it is well known that any hard scattering amplitude inevitably suffers exponential suppression. We demonstrate that, if the string scale is M_s < 2TeV, this intrinsically stringy behavior leads to a dramatic reduction in the QCD jet production rate with very high transverse momenta p_T > 2TeV at LHC. This suppression is sufficient to be observed in the first year of low-luminosity running. Our prediction is based on the universal behavior of string theory, and therefore is qualitatively model-independent. This signature is alternative and complementary to conventional ones such as Regge resonance (or string ball/black hole) production.
