Temporal meson correlators at finite temperature on quenched anisotropic lattice

We study charmonium correlators at finite temperature in quenched anisotropic lattice QCD. The smearing technique is applied to enhance the low energy part of the correlator. We use two analysis procedures: the maximum entropy method for extraction of the spectral function without assuming specific form, as an estimate of the shape of spectral function, and the $χ^2$ fit assuming typical forms as quantitative evaluation of the parameters associated to the forms. We find that at $T\simeq 0.9T_c$ the ground state peak has almost the same mass as at T=0 and almost vanishing width. At $T\simeq 1.1T_c$, our result suggests that the correlator still has nontrivial peak structure at almost the same position as below $T_c$ with finite width.

Responses of quark condensates to the chemical potential

The responses of quark condensates to the chemical potential, as a function of temperature T and chemical potential μ, are calculated within the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model. We compare our results with those from the recent lattice QCD simulations [QCD-TARO Collaboration, Nucl. Phys. B (Proc. Suppl.) 106, 462 (2002)]. The NJL model and lattice calculations show qualitatively similar behavior, and they will be complimentary ways to study hadrons at finite density. The behavior above T_c requires more elaborated analyses.

Renormalization group flow of SU(3) lattice gauge theory - Numerical studies in a two coupling space

We investigate the renormalization group (RG) flow of SU(3) lattice gauge theory in a two coupling space with couplings $β_{11}$ and $β_{12}$ corresponding to $1\times 1$ and $1\times 2$ loops respectively. Extensive numerical calculations of the RG flow are made in the fourth quadrant of this coupling space, i.e., $β_{11}>0$ and $β_{12}<0$. Swendsen's factor two blocking and the Schwinger-Dyson method are used to find an effective action for the blocked gauge field. The resulting renormalization group flow runs quickly towards an attractive stream which has an approximate line shape. This is numerical evidence of a renormalized trajectory which locates close to the two coupling space. A model flow equation which incorporates a marginal coupling (asymptotic scaling term), an irrelevant coupling and a non-perturbative attraction towards the strong coupling limit reproduces qualitatively the observed features. We further examine the scaling properties of an action which is closer to the attractive stream than the currently used improved actions. It is found that this action shows excellent restoration of rotational symmetry even for coarse lattices with $a \sim 0.3$ fm.

Fluctuation modes in color-superconductors

We investigate fluctuation effects of a gap parameter in color-superconductors. The fluctuation modes in the super phase are described by two scalar fields of diquarks. One of them is a Nambu-Goldstone boson and the other is a diquark boson whose mass is about twice of the gap energy (an extended quasi-supersymmetry). In the normal phase the fluctuation becomes a precursory (soft) mode whose amplitude increases near the critical temperature.

Screening mass responses to the chemical potential at finite temperature

Responses to chemical potential of the pseudoscalar meson screening mass and the chiral condensate in lattice QCD are investigated. On a $16 \times 8^2 \times \4$ lattice with two flavors of staggered quarks the first and second responses below and above $T_c$ are evaluated. Different behavior in the low and the high temperature phases are observed, which may be explained as a consequence of the chiral symmetry breaking and restoration.

Chemical potential response of pseudoscalar meson masses in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

Using the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model we study chemical potential response of the pion and kaon masses as a function of temperature and chemical potential, i.e., dm/dμ(T, μ). First, we obtain the responses assuming the vector-axial vector coupling is zero (g_V=0). Then, we include a non-zero g_V and study the effects of g_V on the responses. We find that the behavior of dm/dμfor the pion is quite different from that for the kaon. It means that dm/dμis much dependent on the mass difference between the two quarks, i.e., the u and s quarks (or even between the u and d quarks). Our results may give a clue to future studies of dm/dμon the lattice.

Study of spatial meson correlators at finite temperature in quenched anisotropic lattice QCD

We analyze the meson correlator in the spatial direction at finite temperature. To achieve fine resolution in the spatial direction, we use an anisotropic lattice with the standard Wilson plaquette gauge action and the $O(a)$ improved Wilson quark action. Below and above $T_c$, properties of correlators are investigated by two methods: fits with ansatz for the spectral function, and direct reconstruction of the spectral function using the maximum entropy method.

Responses of hadrons to chemical potential at finite temperature

We present a framework to compute the responses of hadron masses to the chemical potential in lattice QCD simulations. As a first trial, the screening mass of the pseudoscalar meson and its first and second responses are evaluated. We present results on a $16\times 8^2\times 4$ lattice with two flavors of staggered quarks below and above $T_c$. The responses to both the isoscalar and isovector chemical potentials are obtained. They show different behavior in the low and the high temperature phases, which may be explained as a consequence of chiral symmetry breaking and restoration, respectively.

Quenched charmonium near the continuum limit

We study relativistic charmonium on very fine quenched lattices (beta=6.4 and 6.6). We concentrate on the calculation of the hyperfine splitting between eta_c and J/psi, aiming for a controlled continuum extrapolation of this quantity. Results for the eta_c and J/psi wave functions are also presented.

Phase transition of color-superconductivity and cooling behavior of quark stars

We discuss the color-superconductivity and its effect on the cooling behavior of strange quark stars. The neutrino emissivity and specific heat of quark matter are calculated within the BCS theory. In the superconducting phase, the emissivity decreases and causes suppression of the cooling rate. It is shown that the phase transition leads to a sudden discontinuous suppression of the cooling rate in cooperation with the specific heat.

$dm/dμ$ in the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model

Using the Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model we study responses of the pion and kaon masses to changes in the chemical potential, $dm/dμ$, at zero and finite chemical potential. We find that the behavior of $dm/dμ$ for the pion is quite different from that for the kaon. Our results can give a clue for future studies of $dm/dμ$ on the lattice.

Charge diffusion constant in hot and dense hadronic matter - A Hadro-molecular-dynamic calculation

We evaluate charge diffusion constant of dense and hot hadronic matter based on the molecular dynamical method by using a hadronic collision generator which describes nuclear collisions at energies 10 < E < 100 GeV/A and satisfies detailed balance at low temperatures (T < 200 MeV). For the hot and dense hadronic matter of the temperature range, 100 < T < 200 MeV and baryon number density, 0.16 < nB < 0.32 fm^-3, charge diffusion constant D gradually increases from 0.5 fm c to 2 fm c with temperature and is almost independent of baryon number density. Based on the obtained diffusion constant we make simple discussions on the diffusion of charge fluctuation in ultrarelativistic nuclear collisions.

Study of Charmonia near the deconfining transition on an anisotropic lattice with O(a) improved quark action

We study hadron properties near the deconfining transition in the quenched lattice QCD simulation. This paper focuses on the heavy quarkonium states, such as $J/ψ$ meson. In order to treat heavy quarks at $T>0$, we adopt the $O(a)$ improved Wilson action on anisotropic lattice. We discuss $c\bar{c}$ bound state observing the wave function and compare the meson correlators at above and below $T_c$. Although we find a large change of correlator near the $T_c$, the strong spatial correlation which is almost the same as confinement phase survives even $T\sim 1.5T_c$.

Chemical potential response of meson masses at finite temperature

We study the response of meson masses to the chemical potential ($\partial{m}/\partialμ$) at high temperature and at zero chemical potential on $N_f=2$ lattice with staggered fermions. Preliminary results for the meson composed of different quarks show that $\partial{m}/\partialμ|_{μ=0}$ is negative in the confinement phase and positive in the deconfinement phase.

We compare the meson correlators above and below $T_c$ and discuss the possibility of the $c\bar{c}$ bound state by observing the wave function.

Simulation of SU(2) Dynamical Fermion at Finite Chemical Potential and at Finite Temperature

SU(2) lattice gauge theory with dynamical fermion at non-zero chemical potential and at finite temperature is studied. We focus on the influence of chemical potential for quark condensate and mass of pseudoscalar meson at finite temperature. Hybrid Monte Carlo simulations with $N_f=8$ staggered fermions are carried out on $12 \times 12\times 24 \times 4$ lattice. At $β=1.1$ and $m_{q}=$0.05,0.07,0.1, we calculate the quark condensate and masses of pseudoscalar meson consisting of light and heavier quarks for chemical potential $μ=$ 0.0,0.02,0.05,0.1,0.2.

Meson Correlators in Finite Temperature Lattice QCD

We analyze temporal and spatial meson correlators in quenched lattice QCD at T>0. Below T_c we observe little change in the meson properties as compared with T=0. Above T_c we observe new features: chiral symmetry restoration and signals of plasma formation, but also indication of persisting mesonic (metastable) states and different temporal and spatial masses in the mesonic channels. This suggests a complex picture of QGP in the region 1 - 1.5 T_c.

A calculation of the transport coefficients of hot and dense hadronic matter based on the event generator URASiMA

We evaluate thermodynamical quantities and the transport coefficients of a dense and hot hadronic matter based on the event generator URASiMA (Ultra-Relativistic AA collision Simulator based on Multiple Scattering Algorithm) with periodic boundary conditions. As the simplest example of the transport coefficients we investigate the temperature dependence and the chemical potential dependence of the baryon diffusion constant of a dense and hot hadronic matter.
