Supersymmetric hyperbolic Calogero-Sutherland models by gauging

Novel $\mathcal{N}{=}\,2$ and $\mathcal{N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric extensions of the Calogero-Sutherland hyperbolic systems are obtained by gauging the ${\rm U}(n)$ isometry of matrix superfield models. The bosonic core of the $\mathcal{N}{=}\,2$ models is the standard $A_{n-1}$ Calogero-Sutherland hyperbolic system, whereas the ${\mathcal N}{=}\,4$ model contains additional semi-dynamical spin variables and is an extension of the U(2) spin Calogero-Sutherland hyperbolic system. We construct two different versions of the ${\mathcal N}{=}\,4$ model, with and without the interacting center-of-mass coordinate in the bosonic sector.

Sasakian quiver gauge theories and instantons on cones over round and squashed seven-spheres

We study quiver gauge theories on the round and squashed seven-spheres, and orbifolds thereof. They arise by imposing $G$-equivariance on the homogeneous space $G/H=\mathrm{SU}(4)/\mathrm{SU}(3)$ endowed with its Sasaki-Einstein structure, and $G/H=\mathrm{Sp}(2)/\mathrm{Sp}(1)$ as a 3-Sasakian manifold. In both cases we describe the equivariance conditions and the resulting quivers. We further study the moduli spaces of instantons on the metric cones over these spaces by using the known description for Hermitian Yang-Mills instantons on Calabi-Yau cones. It is shown that the moduli space of instantons on the hyper-Kahler cone can be described as the intersection of three Hermitian Yang-Mills moduli spaces. We also study moduli spaces of translationally invariant instantons on the metric cone $\mathbb{R}^8/\mathbb{Z}_k$ over $S^7/\mathbb{Z}_k$.

Extended supersymmetric Calogero model

We present a surprising redefinition of matrix fermions which brings the supercharges of the $\cal N$-extended supersymmetric $A_{n-1}$ Calogero model introduced in [1] to the standard form maximally cubic in the fermions. The complexity of the model is transferred to a non-canonical and nonlinear conjugation property of the fermions. Employing the new cubic supercharges, we apply a supersymmetric generalization of a "folding" procedure for $A_{2n-1}\oplus A_1$ to explicitly construct the supercharges and Hamiltonian for arbitrary even-$\cal N$ supersymmetric extensions of the $B_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$ rational Calogero models. We demonstrate that all considered models possess a dynamical $osp({\cal N}|2)$ superconformal symmetry.

Spinning extensions of $D(2,1;α)$ superconformal mechanics

As is known, any realization of SU(2) in the phase space of a dynamical system can be generalized to accommodate the exceptional supergroup $D(2,1;α)$, which is the most general $\mathcal{N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric extension of the conformal group in one spatial dimension. We construct novel spinning extensions of $D(2,1;α)$ superconformal mechanics by adjusting the SU(2) generators associated with the relativistic spinning particle coupled to a spherically symmetric Einstein-Maxwell background. The angular sector of the full superconformal system corresponds to the orbital motion of a particle coupled to a symmetric Euler top, which represents the spin degrees of freedom. This particle moves either on the two-sphere, optionally in the external field of a Dirac monopole, or in the SU(2) group manifold. Each case is proven to be superintegrable, and explicit solutions are given.

Supersymmetric many-body Euler-Calogero-Moser model

We explicitly construct a supersymmetric $so(n)$ spin-Calogero model with an arbitrary even number $\cal N$ of supersymmetries. It features $\frac{1}{2}{\cal N}n(n{+}1)$ rather than ${\cal N}n$ fermionic coordinates and a very simple structure of the supercharges and the Hamiltonian. The latter, together with additional conserved currents, form an $osp({\cal N}|2)$ superalgebra. We provide a superspace description for the simplest case, namely ${\cal N}{=}2$ supersymmetry. The reduction to an $\cal N$-extended supersymmetric goldfish model is also discussed.

Dual infrared limits of 6d $\cal N$=(2,0) theory

Compactifying type $A_{N-1}$ 6d ${\cal N}{=}(2,0)$ supersymmetric CFT on a product manifold $M^4\timesΣ^2=M^3\times\tilde{S}^1\times S^1\times{\cal I}$ either over $S^1$ or over $\tilde{S}^1$ leads to maximally supersymmetric 5d gauge theories on $M^4\times{\cal I}$ or on $M^3\timesΣ^2$, respectively. Choosing the radii of $S^1$ and $\tilde{S}^1$ inversely proportional to each other, these 5d gauge theories are dual to one another since their coupling constants $e^2$ and $\tilde{e}^2$ are proportional to those radii respectively. We consider their non-Abelian but non-supersymmetric extensions, i.e. SU($N$) Yang-Mills theories on $M^4\times{\cal I}$ and on $M^3\timesΣ^2$, where $M^4\supset M^3=\mathbb R_t\times T_p^2$ with time $t$ and a punctured 2-torus, and ${\cal I}\subsetΣ^2$ is an interval. In the first case, shrinking ${\cal I}$ to a point reduces to Yang-Mills theory or to the Skyrme model on $M^4$, depending on the method chosen for the low-energy reduction. In the second case, scaling down the metric on $M^3$ and employing the adiabatic method, we derive in the infrared limit a non-linear SU($N$) sigma model with a baby-Skyrme-type term on $Σ^2$, which can be reduced further to $A_{N-1}$ Toda theory.

Skyrme-Faddeev model from 5d super-Yang-Mills

We consider 5d Yang-Mills-Higgs theory with a compact ADE-type gauge group $G$ and one adjoint scalar field on $\mathbb{R}^{3,1}\times\mathbb{R}_+$, where $\mathbb{R}_+=[0,\infty)$ is the half-line. The maximally supersymmetric extension of this model, with five adjoint scalars, appears after a reduction of 6d ${\cal N}{=}\,(2,0)$ superconformal field theory on $\mathbb{R}^{3,1}\times\mathbb{R}_+\times S^1$ along the circle $S^1$. We show that in the low-energy limit, when momenta along $\mathbb{R}^{3,1}$ are much smaller than along $\mathbb{R}_+$, the 5d Yang-Mills-Higgs theory reduces to a nonlinear sigma model on $\mathbb{R}^{3,1}$ with a coset $G/H$ as its target space. Here $H$ is a closed subgroup of $G$ determined by the Higgs-field asymptotics at infinity. The 4d sigma model describes an infinite tower of interacting fields, and in the infrared it is dominated by the standard two-derivative kinetic term and the four-derivative Skyrme-Faddeev term.

Deformed ${\cal N}{=}\,8$ mechanics of ${\bf(8,8,0)}$ multiplets

We construct new models of `curved' SU$(4|1)$ supersymmetric mechanics based on two versions of the off-shell multiplet ${\bf(8,8,0)}$ which are `mirror' to each other. The worldline realizations of the supergroup SU$(4|1)$ are treated as a deformation of flat ${\cal N}{=}\,8$, $d\,{=}\,1$ supersymmetry. Using SU$(4|1)$ chiral superfields, we derive invariant actions for the first-type ${\bf(8,8,0)}$ multiplet, which parametrizes special Kähler manifolds. Since we are not aware of a manifestly SU$(4|1)$ covariant superfield formalism for the second-type ${\bf(8,8,0)}$ multiplet, we perform a general construction of SU$(4|1)$ invariant actions for both multiplet types in terms of SU$(2|1)$ superfields. An important class of such actions enjoys superconformal OSp$(8|2)$ invariance. We also build off-shell actions for the SU$(4|1)$ multiplets ${\bf(6,8,2)}$ and ${\bf(7,8,1)}$ through appropriate substitutions for the component fields in the ${\bf(8,8,0)}$ actions. The ${\bf(6,8,2)}$ actions are shown to respect superconformal SU$(4|1,1)$ invariance.

Yang-Mills solutions on de Sitter space of any dimension

For gauge groups SO$(n{+}1)$, SU$(m{+}1)$ and Sp$(\ell{+}1)$, we construct equivariant Yang-Mills solutions on de Sitter space in $n{+}1$, $2(m{+}1)$ and $4(\ell{+}1)$ spacetime dimensions. The latter is conformally mapped to a finite cylinder over a coset space realizing an appropriate unit sphere. The equivariance condition reduces the Yang-Mills system to an analog Newtonian particle in one or two dimensions subject to a time-dependent friction and a particular potential. We analyze some properties of the solutions such as their action and energy and display all analytic ones. Beyond dS$_4$ all such configurations have finite energy but infinite action.

A new construction of rational electromagnetic knots

We set up a correspondence between solutions of the Yang-Mills equations on ${\mathbb R}\times S^3$ and in Minkowski spacetime via de Sitter space. Some known Abelian and non-Abelian exact solutions are rederived. For the Maxwell case we present a straightforward algorithm to generate an infinite number of explicit solutions, with fields and potentials in Minkowski coordinates given by rational functions of increasing complexity. We illustrate our method with a nontrivial example.

Skyrme model from 6d $\cal N$= (2,0) theory

We consider 5d Yang-Mills theory with a compact ADE-type gauge group $G$ on ${\mathbb R}^{3,1}\times{\cal I}$, where $\cal I$ is an interval. The maximally supersymmetric extension of this model appears after compactification on $S^1$ of 6d $\cal N$= (2,0) superconformal field theory on ${\mathbb R}^{3,1}\times S^2_2$, where $S^2_2\cong{\cal I}\times S^1$ is a two-sphere with two punctures. In the low-energy limit, when the length of $\cal I$ becomes small, the 5d Yang-Mills theory reduces to a nonlinear sigma model on ${\mathbb R}^{3,1}$ with the Lie group $G$ as its target space. It contains an infinite tower of interacting fields whose leading term in the infrared is the four-derivative Skyrme term. A maximally supersymmetric generalization leading to a hyper-Kähler sigma-model target space is briefly discussed.

${\cal N}$-extended supersymmetric Calogero models

We propose a new ${\cal N}$-extended supersymmetric $su(n)$ spin-Calogero model. Employing a generalized Hamiltonian reduction adopted to the supersymmetric case, we explicitly construct a novel rational $n$-particle Calogero model with an arbitrary even number of supersymmetries. It features ${\cal N}n^2$ rather than ${\cal N}n$ fermionic coordinates and increasingly high fermionic powers in the supercharges and the Hamiltonian.

Quantum SU(2$|$1) supersymmetric Calogero-Moser spinning systems

${\rm SU}(2|1)$ supersymmetric multi-particle quantum mechanics with additional semi-dynamical spin degrees of freedom is considered. In particular, we provide an $\mathcal{N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetrization of the quantum ${\rm U}(2)$ spin Calogero-Moser model, with an intrinsic mass parameter coming from the centrally-extended superalgebra $\widehat{su}(2|1)$. The full system admits an ${\rm SU}(2|1)$ covariant separation into the center-of-mass sector and the quotient. We derive explicit expressions for the classical and quantum ${\rm SU}(2|1)$ generators in both sectors as well as for the total system, and we determine the relevant energy spectra, degeneracies, and the sets of physical states.

${\cal N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric mechanics on curved spaces

We present ${\cal N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric mechanics on $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds constructed within the Hamiltonian approach. The structure functions entering the supercharges and the Hamiltonian obey modified covariant constancy equations as well as modified Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde equations specified by the presence of the manifold's curvature tensor. Solutions of original Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde equations and related prepotentials defining ${\cal N}{=}\,4$ superconformal mechanics in flat space can be lifted to $so(n)$-invariant Riemannian manifolds. For the Hamiltonian this lift generates an additional potential term which, on spheres and (two-sheeted) hyperboloids, becomes a Higgs-oscillator potential. In particular, the sum of $n$ copies of one-dimensional conformal mechanics results in a specific superintegrable deformation of the Higgs oscillator.

Non-Abelian sigma models from Yang-Mills theory compactified on a circle

We consider SU($N$) Yang-Mills theory on ${\mathbb R}^{2,1}\times S^1$, where $S^1$ is a spatial circle. In the infrared limit of a small-circle radius the Yang-Mills action reduces to the action of a sigma model on ${\mathbb R}^{2,1}$ whose target space is a $2(N{-}1)$-dimensional torus modulo the Weyl-group action. We argue that there is freedom in the choice of the framing of the gauge bundles, which leads to more general options. In particular, we show that this low-energy limit can give rise to a target space SU$(N){\times}$SU$(N)/{\mathbb Z}_N$. The latter is the direct product of SU($N$) and its Langlands dual SU$(N)/{\mathbb Z}_N$, and it contains the above-mentioned torus as its maximal Abelian subgroup. An analogous result is obtained for any non-Abelian gauge group.

SU(2$|$1) supersymmetric mechanics on curved spaces

We present SU$(2|1)$ supersymmetric mechanics on $n$-dimensional Riemannian manifolds within the Hamiltonian approach. The structure functions including prepotentials entering the supercharges and the Hamiltonian obey extended curved WDVV equations specified by the manifold's metric and curvature tensor. We consider the most general $u(2)$-valued prepotential, which contains both types (with and without spin variables), previously considered only separately. For the case of real Kähler manifolds we construct all possible interactions. For isotropic ($so(n)$-invariant) spaces we provide admissible prepotentials for any solution to the curved WDVV equations. All known one-dimensional SU$(2|1)$ supersymmetric models are reproduced.

Curved Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde equation and ${\cal N}{=}\,4$ mechanics

We propose a generalization of the Witten-Dijkgraaf-Verlinde-Verlinde (WDVV) equation from ${\mathbb R}^n$ to an arbitrary Riemannian manifold. Its form is obtained by extending the relation of the WDVV equation with ${\cal N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric $n$-dimensional mechanics from flat to curved space. The resulting `curved WDVV equation' is written in terms of a third-rank Codazzi tensor. For every flat-space WDVV solution subject to a simple constraint we provide a curved-space solution on any isotropic space, in terms of the rotationally invariant conformal factor of the metric.

Finite-action solutions of Yang-Mills equations on de Sitter dS$_4$ and anti-de Sitter AdS$_4$ spaces

We consider pure SU(2) Yang-Mills theory on four-dimensional de Sitter dS$_4$ and anti-de Sitter AdS$_4$ spaces and construct various solutions to the Yang-Mills equations. On de Sitter space we reduce the Yang-Mills equations via an SU(2)-equivariant ansatz to Newtonian mechanics of a particle moving in ${\mathbb R}^3$ under the influence of a quartic potential. Then we describe magnetic and electric-magnetic solutions, both Abelian and non-Abelian, all having finite energy and finite action. A similar reduction on anti-de Sitter space also yields Yang-Mills solutions with finite energy and action. We propose a lower bound for the action on both backgrounds. Employing another metric on AdS$_4$, the SU(2) Yang-Mills equations are reduced to an analytic continuation of the above particle mechanics from ${\mathbb R}^3$ to ${\mathbb R}^{2,1}$. We discuss analytical solutions to these equations, which produce infinite-action configurations. After a Euclidean continuation of dS$_4$ and AdS$_4$ we also present self-dual (instanton-type) Yang--Mills solutions on these backgrounds.
