Yang-Mills solutions on Minkowski space via non-compact coset spaces

We find a two-parameter family of solutions of the Yang-Mills equations for gauge group SO(1,3) on Minkowski space by foliating different parts of it with non-compact coset spaces with SO(1,3) isometry. The interior of the lightcone is foliated with hyperbolic space $H^3\cong \text{SO}(1,3)/\text{SO}(3)$, while the exterior of the lightcone employs de Sitter space dS$_3\cong \text{SO}(1,3)/\text{SO}(1,2)$. The lightcone itself is parametrized by SO(1,3)/ISO(2) in a nilpotent fashion. Equivariant reduction of the SO(1,3) Yang-Mills system on the first two coset spaces yields a mechanical system with inverted double-well potential and the foliation parameter serving as an evolution parameter. Its known analytic solutions are periodic or runaway except for the kink. On the lightcone, only the vacuum solution remains. The constructed Yang-Mills field strength is singular across the lightcone and of infinite action due to the noncompact cosets. Its energy-momentum tensor takes a very simple form, with energy density of opposite signs inside and outside the lightcone.

Integrability of supersymmetric Calogero-Moser models

We analyze the integrability of the ${\cal N}$-extended supersymmetric Calogero-Moser model. We explicitly construct the Lax pair $\{L,A\}$ for this system, which properly reproduces all equations of motion. After adding a supersymmetric oscillator potential we reduce the latter to solving $\dot{U}\,{=}\,A\,U$ for the time evolution operator $U(t)$. The bosonic variables, however, evolve independently of $U$ on closed trajectories, as is required for superintegrability. To visualize the structure of the conserved currents we derive the complete set of Liouville charges up to the fifth power in the momenta, for the ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ supersymmetric model. The additional, non-involutive, conserved charges needed for a maximal superintegrability of this model are also found.

The Nicolai map for super Yang-Mills theory and application to the supermembrane

The nonlocal bosonic theory obtained from integrating out all anticommuting and auxiliary variables in a globally supersymmetric theory is characterized by the Nicolai map. We present a universal formula for the latter in terms of an ordered exponential of the integrated coupling flow operator, which can be canonically constructed. Also for supersymmetric gauge theories, this allows us to perturbatively construct the Nicolai map explicitly in terms of tree diagrams. For off-shell supersymmetry this works in any gauge, in the on-shell case the Landau gauge is required. The dimensional reduction of $D{=}10$ super Yang-Mills to maximally supersymmetric SU($N$) matrix mechanics (the BFSS model) is known to provide a regularization of the $D{=}11$ supermembrane in light-cone gauge via its incarnation as a one-dimensional gauge theory of area-preserving membrane diffeomorphisms. We show how a well-defined corresponding Nicolai map perturbatively linearizes the supermembrane in the small-tension regime and points the way for a computation of vertex-operator correlators.

Instability of cosmic Yang-Mills fields

There exists a small family of analytic SO(4)-invariant but time-dependent SU(2) Yang-Mills solutions in any conformally flat four-dimensional spacetime. These might play a role in early-universe cosmology for stabilizing the symmetric Higgs vacuum. We analyze the linear stability of these "cosmic gauge fields" against general gauge-field perturbations while keeping the metric frozen, by diagonalizing the (time-dependent) Yang-Mills fluctuation operator around them and applying Floquet theory to its eigenfrequencies and normal modes. Except for the exactly solvable SO(4) singlet perturbation, which is found to be marginally stable linearly but bounded nonlinearly, generic normal modes often grow exponentially due to resonance effects. Even at very high energies, all cosmic Yang-Mills backgrounds are rendered linearly unstable.

A low-energy limit of Yang-Mills theory on de Sitter space

We consider Yang--Mills theory with a compact structure group $G$ on four-dimensional de Sitter space dS$_4$. Using conformal invariance, we transform the theory from dS$_4$ to the finite cylinder ${\cal I}\times S^3$, where ${\cal I}=(-π/2, π/2)$ and $S^3$ is the round three-sphere. By considering only bundles $P\to{\cal I}\times S^3$ which are framed over the temporal boundary $\partial{\cal I}\times S^3$, we introduce additional degrees of freedom which restrict gauge transformations to be identity on $\partial{\cal I}\times S^3$. We study the consequences of the framing on the variation of the action, and on the Yang--Mills equations. This allows for an infinite-dimensional moduli space of Yang--Mills vacua on dS$_4$. We show that, in the low-energy limit, when momentum along ${\cal I}$ is much smaller than along $S^3$, the Yang--Mills dynamics in dS$_4$ is approximated by geodesic motion in the infinite-dimensional space ${\cal M}_{\rm vac}$ of gauge-inequivalent Yang--Mills vacua on $S^3$. Since ${\cal M}_{\rm vac}\cong C^\infty (S^3, G)/G$ is a group manifold, the dynamics is expected to be integrable.

Construction method for the Nicolai map in supersymmetric Yang-Mills theories

Recently, a universal formula for the Nicolai map in terms of a coupling flow functional differential operator was found. We present the full perturbative expansion of this operator in Yang-Mills theories where supersymmetry is realized off-shell. Given this expansion, we develop a straightforward method to compute the explicit Nicolai map to any order in the gauge coupling. Our work extends the previously known construction method from the Landau gauge to arbitrary gauges and from the gauge hypersurface to the full gauge-field configuration space. As an example, we present the map in the axial gauge to the second order.

Universal form of the Nicolai map

The nonlocal bosonic theory obtained from integrating out all anticommuting and auxiliary variables in a globally supersymmetric theory is characterized by the Nicolai map. The latter is generated by a coupling flow functional differential operator, which can be canonically constructed when the supersymmetry is realized off-shell. Given any scalar superfield theory, we present a universal formula for both the Nicolai map and its inverse in terms of an ordered exponential of the integrated coupling flow operator. We demonstrate that our formula also holds for supersymmetric gauge theories.

Algebraic integrability of ${\cal PT}$-deformed Calogero models

We review some recents developments of the algebraic structures and spectral properties of non-Hermitian deformations of Calogero models. The behavior of such extensions is illustrated by the $A_2$ trigonometric and the $D_3$ angular Calogero models. Features like intertwining operators and conserved charges are discussed in terms of Dunkl operators. Hidden symmetries coming from the so-called algebraic integrability for integral values of the coupling are addressed together with a physical regularization of their action on the states by virtue of a $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry deformation.

Electromagnetic knots from de Sitter space

We find all analytic SU(2) Yang-Mills solutions on de Sitter space by reducing the field equations to Newton's equation for a particle in a particular 3d potential and solving the latter in a special case. In contrast, Maxwell's equations on de Sitter space can be solved in generality, by separating them in hysperspherical coordinates. Employing a well-known conformal map between (half of) de Sitter space and (the future half of) Minkowski space, the Maxwell solutions are mapped to a complete basis of rational electromagnetic knot configurations. We discuss some of their properties and illustrate the construction method with two nontrivial examples given by rational functions of increasing complexity. The material is partly based on [1,2].

New approach to ${\cal N} {=}2$ supersymmetric Ruijsenaars-Schneider model

We present a very simple form of the supercharges and the Hamiltonian of ${\cal N} {=}\,2$ supersymmetric extension of $n$-particle Ruijsenaars--Schneider models for three cases of the interaction: $1/(x_i-x_j)$, $1/tan(x_i-x_j)$, $1/tanh(x_i-x_j)$. The long "fermionic tails" of the supercharges and Hamiltonian rolled up in the simple rational functions depending on fermionic bilinears.

Integrability, intertwiners and non-linear algebras in Calogero models

For the rational quantum Calogero systems of type $A_1{\oplus}A_2$, $AD_3$ and $BC_3$, we explicitly present complete sets of independent conserved charges and their nonlinear algebras. Using intertwining (or shift) operators, we include the extra `odd' charges appearing for integral couplings. Formulae for the energy eigenstates are used to tabulate the low-level wave functions.

Perturbative linearization of supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory

Supersymmetric gauge theories are characterized by the existence of a transformation of the bosonic fields (Nicolai map) such that the Jacobi determinant of the transformation equals the product of the Matthews-Salam-Seiler and Faddeev-Popov determinants. This transformation had been worked out to second order in the coupling constant. In this paper, we extend this result (and the framework itself) to third order in the coupling constant. A diagrammatic approach in terms of tree diagrams, aiming to extend this map to arbitrary orders, is outlined. This formalism bypasses entirely the use of anti-commuting variables, as well as issues concerning the (non-)existence of off-shell formulations for these theories. It thus offers a fresh perspective on supersymmetric gauge theories and, in particular, the ubiquitous $\mathcal N{=}\,4$ theory.

On ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ supersymmetric Ruijsenaars-Schneider models

We construct an ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ supersymmetric extension of $n$-particle Ruijsenaars-Schneider models. The guiding feature is a deformation of the phase space. The supercharges have a "free" form linear in the fermions but produce an interacting four-fermion Hamiltonian. A field-dependent unitary transformation maps to standard fermions obeying conventional Poisson brackets. In this frame, the supercharges and Hamiltonian have long "fermionic tails". We also comment on previous attempts in this direction.

New ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ superspace Calogero models

Starting from the Hamiltonian formulation of ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ supersymmetric Calogero models associated with the classical $A_n, B_n, C_n$ and $D_n$ series and their hyperbolic/trigonometric cousins, we provide their superspace description. The key ingredients include $n$ bosonic and $2n(n{-}1)$ fermionic ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ superfields, the latter being subject to a nonlinear chirality constraint. This constraint has a universal form valid for all Calogero models. With its help we find more general supercharges (and a superspace Lagrangian), which provide the ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ supersymmetrization for bosonic potentials with arbitrary repulsive two-body interactions.

On rational electromagnetic fields

We employ a recently developed method for constructing rational electromagnetic field configurations in Minkowski space to investigate several properties of these source-free finite-action Maxwell ("knot") solutions. The construction takes place on the Penrose diagram but uses features of de Sitter space, in particular its isometry group. This admits a classification of all knot solutions in terms of $S^3$ harmonics, labelled by a spin $2j\in{\mathbb N}_0$, which in fact provides a complete "knot basis" of finite-action Maxwell fields. We display a $j{=}1$ example, compute the energy for arbitrary spin-$j$ configurations, derive a linear relation between spin and helicity and characterize the subspace of null fields. Finally, we present an expression for the electromagnetic flux at null infinity and demonstrate its equality with the total energy.

${\cal N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric Calogero-Sutherland models

Starting from the Hamiltonian formulation of supersymmetric Calogero models associated with the classical $A_n$, $B_n$, $C_n$ and $D_n$ series we construct the ${\cal N}{=}\,2$ and ${\cal N}{=}\,4$ supersymmetric extensions of the their hyperbolic/trigonometric Calogero-Sutherland cousins. The bosonic core of these models are the standard Calogero-Sutherland hyperbolic/trigonometric systems.

${\cal PT}$ deformation of Calogero-Sutherland models

Calogero-Sutherland models of $N$ identical particles on a circle are deformed away from hermiticity but retaining a $\cal PT$ symmetry. The interaction potential gets completely regularized, which adds to the energy spectrum an infinite tower of previously non-normalizable states. For integral values of the coupling, extra degeneracy occurs and a nonlinear conserved supersymmetry charge enlarges the ring of Liouville charges. The integrability structure is maintained. We discuss the $A_{N-1}$-type models in general and work out details for the cases of $A_2$ and $G_2$.

Skyrme and Faddeev models in the low-energy limit of 4d Yang-Mills-Higgs theories

Firstly, we consider Yang-Mills theory on ${\mathbb R}^{3,1}$ with an adjoint Higgs field spontaneously breaking a compact gauge group $G$ to a subgroup $H$, so that the Higgs vacuum manifold forms the coset $G/H$. It is shown that in the low-energy limit, when the Higgs vacuum value is large, the 4d Yang-Mills-Higgs theory reduces to the Faddeev sigma model on ${\mathbb R}^{3,1}$ with $G/H$ as target. Its action contains the standard two-derivative sigma-model term as well as the four-derivative Skyrme-type term, which stabilizes solutions against scaling. Secondly, we put the Higgs field in the bi-fundamental representation of $G=\textrm{U}_+(N)\times\textrm{U}_-(N)$, realizing the simplest $A_2$-type quiver gauge theory. Breaking $G$ to $H{=}\,\textrm{diag}(G)$, the vacuum manifold $G/H\cong\textrm{U}(N)$ is a group. In this case, when the Higgs vacuum value is large, the 4d $A_2$-quiver gauge theory reduces to the Skyrme sigma model on ${\mathbb R}^{3,1}$ with U$(N)$ as target. Thus, both the Skyrme and the Faddeev model arise as effective field theories in the infrared of Yang-Mills-Higgs models.
