F-term Moduli Stabilization and Uplifting

We study Kähler moduli stabilization in IIB superstring theory. We propose a new moduli stabilization mechanism by the supersymmetry-braking chiral superfield which is coupled to Kähler moduli in Kähler potential. We also study uplifting of the Large Volume Scenario (LVS) by it. In both cases, the form of superpotential is crucial for moduli stabilization. We confirm that our uplifting mechanism does not destabilize the vacuum of the LVS drastically.

Gravitational waves from the minimal gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ model

An additional $U(1)$ gauge interaction is one of promising extensions of the standard model of particle physics. Among others, the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry is particularly interesting because it addresses the origin of Majorana masses of right-handed neutrinos, which naturally leads to tiny light neutrino masses through the seesaw mechanism. We show that, based on the minimal $U(1)_{B-L}$ model, the symmetry breaking of the extra $U(1)$ gauge symmetry with its minimal Higgs sector in the early Universe can exhibit the first-order phase transition and hence generate a large enough amplitude of stochastic gravitational wave radiation which is detectable in future experiments.

Electric dipole moments and dark matter in a CP violating MSSM

We investigate electric dipole moments (EDMs) in a CP-violating minimal supersymmetric standard model with the Bino-like neutralino dark matter (DM) annihilating through the heavy Higgs funnel. Motivated by the current experimental results, in particular, the measured mass of the standard model-like Higgs boson, we consider a mass spectrum with stop masses of about 10 TeV. For the other sfermions, we consider masses of about 100 TeV. We show that CP-violating phases of the order of ten degrees in gaugino and Higgsino mass parameters are consistent with the current bound by EDMs of the electron, the neutron, and the mercury. They are within the reach of future experiments. We also show that effects of CP-violating phases induce a difference in DM-nucleon scattering cross section by a factor.

Thermal production of light Dirac right-handed sneutrino dark matter

We consider the production of right-handed (RH) sneutrino dark matter in a model of Dirac neutrino where neutrino Yukawa coupling constants are very small. Dark matter RH sneutrinos are produced by scatterings and decays of thermal particles in the early Universe without reaching thermal equilibrium due to the small Yukawa couplings. We show that not only decays of thermal particles but also the thermal scatterings can be a dominant source as well as non-thermal production in a scenario with light sneutrinos and charged sleptons while other supersymmetric particles are heavy. We also discuss the cosmological implications of this scenario.

Probing the seesaw scale with gravitational waves

The $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry is a promising extension of the standard model of particle physics, which is supposed to be broken at some high energy scale. Associated with the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry breaking, right-handed neutrinos acquire their Majorana masses and then tiny light neutrino masses are generated through the seesaw mechanism. In this paper, we demonstrate that the first-order phase transition of the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry breaking can generate a large amplitude of stochastic gravitational wave (GW) radiation for some parameter space of the model, which is detectable in future experiments. Therefore, the detection of GWs is an interesting strategy to probe the seesaw scale which can be much higher than the energy scale of collider experiments.

DAMPE excess from decaying right-handed neutrino dark matter

The flux of high-energy cosmic-ray electrons plus positrons recently measured by the DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) exhibits a tentative peak excess at an energy of around $1.4$ TeV. In this paper, we consider the minimal gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ model with a right-handed neutrino (RHN) dark matter (DM) and interpret the DAMPE peak with a late-time decay of the RHN DM into $e^\pm W^\mp$. We find that a DM lifetime $τ_{DM} \sim 10^{28}$ s can fit the DAMPE peak with a DM mass $m_{DM}=3$ TeV. This favored lifetime is close to the current bound on it by Fermi-LAT, our decaying RHN DM can be tested once the measurement of cosmic gamma ray flux is improved. The RHN DM communicates with the Standard Model particles through the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson ($Z^\prime$ boson), and its thermal relic abundance is controlled by only three free parameters: $m_{DM}$, the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge coupling ($α_{BL}$), and the $Z^\prime$ boson mass ($m_{Z^\prime}$). For $m_{DM}=3$ TeV, the rest of the parameters are restricted to be $m_{Z^\prime}\simeq 6$ TeV and $0.00807 \leq α_{BL} \leq 0.0149$, in order to reproduce the observed DM relic density and to avoid the Landau pole for the running $α_{BL}$ below the Planck scale. This allowed region will be tested by the search for a $Z^\prime$ boson resonance at the future Large Hadron Collider.

Very low scale Coleman-Weinberg inflation with non-minimal coupling

We study viable small-field Coleman-Weinberg (CW) inflation models with the help of non-minimal coupling to gravity. The simplest small-field CW inflation model (with a low-scale potential minimum) is incompatible with the cosmological constraint on the scalar spectral index. However, there are possibilities to make the model realistic. First, we revisit the CW inflation model supplemented with a linear potential term. We next consider the CW inflation model with a logarithmic non-minimal coupling and illustrate that the model can open a new viable parameter space that includes the model with a linear potential term. We also show parameter spaces where the Hubble scale during the inflation can be as small as $10^{-4} $ GeV, $1$ GeV, $10^4 $ GeV, and $10^8$ GeV for the number of $e$-folds of $40,~45,~50$, and $55$, respectively, with other cosmological constraints being satisfied.

Realization of a spontaneous gauge and supersymmetry breaking vacuum

It is one of the major issues to realize a vacuum which breaks supersymmetry (SUSY) and R-symmetry, in a supersymmetric model. We study the model, where the same sector breaks the gauge symmetry and SUSY. In general, the SUSY breaking model without gauge symmetry has a flat direction at the minimum of F-term scalar potential. When we introduce U(1) gauge symmetry to such a SUSY breaking model, there can appear a runaway direction. Such a runway direction can be lifted by loop effects, and the gauge symmetry breaking and SUSY breaking are realized. The R-symmetry, that is assigned to break SUSY, is also spontaneously broken at the vacuum. This scenario can be extended to non-Abelian gauge theories. We also discuss application to the Pati-Salam model and the SU(5) grand unified theory. We see that non-vanishing gaugino masses are radiatively generated by the R-symmetry breaking and the gauge messenger contribution.

Toward pole inflation and attractors in supergravity : Chiral matter field inflation

In string-inspired supergravity theory, Kähler metric of chiral matter fields often has a pole. Such Kähler metric is interesting from the viewpoint of the framework of the pole inflation, where the scalar potential can be stretched out to be flat around the pole for a canonically normalized field and inflation can be realized. However, when Kähler metric has a pole, the scalar potential can also have a pole at the same point in supergravity theory. We study such supergravity models with the pole, and provide numerical analysis of inflationary dynamics and resultant density perturbation. In contrast with usual pole inflation models, inflation in this supergravity based model occurs not on the pole but region apart from the pole. We show that the existence of the pole in the scalar potential is crucial nevertheless. We also examine attractor behavior of our model.

Relaxion window

We investigate cosmological constraints on the original relaxion scenario proposed by Graham, Kaplan and Rajendran. We first discuss the appropriate sign choice of the terms in the scalar potential, when the QCD axion is the relaxion with a relaxion-inflaton coupling proposed in the original paper. We next derive the cosmologically consistent ranges of the mass and a coupling of the relaxion for both the QCD relaxion and non-QCD relaxion. The mass range is obtained by $10^{-5}$ eV $\ll m_ϕ \lesssim 10^4$ eV. We also find that a strong correlation between the Hubble parameter at the relaxion stabilization and the scale $Λ$ of non-QCD strong dynamics, which generates the non-perturbative relaxion cosine potential. For a higher relaxion mass, a large scale $Λ$ becomes available. However, for its lower mass, $Λ$ should be small and constructing such a particle physics model is challenging.

The Constrained NMSSM with right-handed neutrinos

In this article, we study the renormalization group equations of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, and investigate universality conditions on the soft supersymmetry-breaking parameters at the Grand Unification scale. We demonstrate that the inclusion of right-handed neutrino superfields can have a substantial effect on the running of the soft terms (greatly contributing to driving the singlet Higgs mass- squared parameter negative), which makes it considerably easier to satisfy the conditions for radiative electroweak symmetry-breaking. The new fields also lead to larger values of the Standard Model Higgs mass, thus making it easier to reproduce the measured value. We investigate the phenomenology of this constrained scenario, and focus on two viable benchmark points, which feature a neutral lightest supersymmetric particle (either the lightest neutralino or the right-handed sneutrino). We show that all bounds from colliders and low-energy observables can be fulfilled in wide areas of the parameter space. However, the relic density in these regions is generally too high requiring some form of late entropy production to dilute the density of the lightest supersymmetric particle.

Atomki anomaly and dark matter in a radiative seesaw model with gauged $B-L$ symmetry

Motivated by recently reported anomalies in a decay of an excited state of beryllium by the Atomki collaboration, we study a radiative seesaw model with gauged $B-L$ symmetry and a $Z_2$ parity. Assuming that the anomalies originate from the decay of the $B-L$ gauge boson followed by the nuclear decay, the mass of the lightest right-handed neutrino or the dark matter candidate can be determined below $10$ GeV. We show that for this mass range, the model can explain the anomalies in the beryllium decay and the relic dark matter abundance consistent with neutrino masses. We also predict its spin-independent cross section in direct detection experiments for this mass range.

Phenomenological signatures of mixed complex scalar WIMP dark matter

We discuss phenomenological aspects of models whose scalar sector is extended by an isospin doublet scalar and a complex singlet scalar as an effective theory of supersymmetric models with mixed sneutrinos. In such models, the lighter of the mixed neutral scalars can become a viable dark matter candidate by imposing a U(1) symmetry. We find that the thermal WIMP scenario is consistent with the cosmological dark matter abundance when the mass of the scalar is half of that of the discovered Higgs boson or larger than around 100 GeV. We also point out that, with an additional isospin singlet Majorana fermion mediator, even the mass of the scalar WIMP less than around 5 GeV is compatible with the observed dark matter abundance. We show that such cosmologically allowed regions can be explored at future collider experiments and dark matter detections.

Large invisible decay of a Higgs boson to neutrinos

We show that the standard model (SM)-like Higgs boson may decay into neutrinos with a sizable decay branching ratio in one well-known two Higgs doublet model, so-called neutrinophilic Higgs model. This could happen if the mass of the lighter extra neutral Higgs boson is smaller than one half of the SM-like Higgs boson mass. The definite prediction of this scenario is that the rate of the SM-like Higgs boson decay into diphoton normalized by the SM value is about 0.9. In the case that a neutrino is Majorana particle, a displaced vertex of right-handed neutrino decay would be additionally observed. This example indicates that a large invisible Higgs boson decay could be irrelevant to dark matter.

Entropy production by domain wall decay in the NMSSM

We consider domain walls in the $Z_3$ symmetric NMSSM. The spontaneous $Z_3$ discrete symmetry breaking produces domain walls, and the stable domain walls are problematic. Thus, we assume the $Z_3$ symmetry is slightly but explicitly broken and the domain walls decay. Such a decay causes a large late-time entropy production. We study its cosmological implications on unwanted relics such as moduli, gravitino, LSP and axion.

Dilution of axion dark radiation by thermal inflation

Axions in the Peccei-Quinn (PQ) mechanism provide a promising solution to the strong CP problem in the standard model of particle physics. Coherently generated PQ scalar fields could dominate the energy density in the early Universe and decay into relativistic axions, which would conflict with the current dark radiation constraints. We study the possibility that a thermal inflation driven by a $U(1)$ gauged Higgs field dilutes such axions. A well-motivated extra gauged $U(1)$ would be the local $B-L$ symmetry. We also discuss the implication for the case of $U(1)_{B-L}$ and an available baryogenesis mechanism in such cosmology.

Beginning of Universe through large field hybrid inflation

Recent detection of $B$-mode polarization induced from tensor perturbations by the BICEP2 experiment implies so-called large field inflation, where an inflaton field takes super-Planckian expectation value during inflation, at a high energy scale. We show however, if another inflation follows hybrid inflation, the hybrid inflation can generate a large tensor perturbation with not super-Plankian but Planckian field value. This scenario would relax the tension between BICEP2 and Planck concerning the tensor-to-scalar ratio, because a negative large running can also be obtained for a certain number of e-fold of the hybrid inflation. A natural interpretation of a large gravitational wave mode with or without the scalar spectral running might be multiple inflation in the early Universe.

A facility to Search for Hidden Particles at the CERN SPS: the SHiP physics case

This paper describes the physics case for a new fixed target facility at CERN SPS. The SHiP (Search for Hidden Particles) experiment is intended to hunt for new physics in the largely unexplored domain of very weakly interacting particles with masses below the Fermi scale, inaccessible to the LHC experiments, and to study tau neutrino physics. The same proton beam setup can be used later to look for decays of tau-leptons with lepton flavour number non-conservation, $τ\to 3μ$ and to search for weakly-interacting sub-GeV dark matter candidates. We discuss the evidence for physics beyond the Standard Model and describe interactions between new particles and four different portals - scalars, vectors, fermions or axion-like particles. We discuss motivations for different models, manifesting themselves via these interactions, and how they can be probed with the SHiP experiment and present several case studies. The prospects to search for relatively light SUSY and composite particles at SHiP are also discussed. We demonstrate that the SHiP experiment has a unique potential to discover new physics and can directly probe a number of solutions of beyond the Standard Model puzzles, such as neutrino masses, baryon asymmetry of the Universe, dark matter, and inflation
