Non-perturbative moduli superpotential with positive exponents

We study non-perturbative moduli superpotentials with positive exponents, i.e. the form like $Ae^{aT}$ with a positive constant $a$ and the modulus $T$. These effects can be generated, e.g., by D-branes which have negative RR charge of lower dimensional D-brane. The scalar potentials including such terms have a quite rich structure. There are several local minima with different potential energies and a high barrier, whose height is of ${\cal O}(M_p^4)$. We discuss their implications from the viewpoints of cosmology and particle phenomenology, e.g. the realization of inflation models, avoiding the overshooting problem. This type of potentials would be useful to realize the inflation and low-energy supersymmetry breaking.

Dynamical solutions of warped six dimensional supergravity

We derive a new class of exact time dependent solutions in a warped six dimensional supergravity model. Under the assumptions we make for the form of the underlying moduli fields, we show that the only consistent time dependent solutions lead to all six dimensions evolving in time, implying the eventual decompactification or collapse of the extra dimensions. We also show how the dynamics affects the quantization of the deficit angle.

Axino warm dark matter and $Ω_b - Ω_{DM}$ coincidence

We show that axinos, which are dominantly generated by the decay of the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particles produced from the leptonic $Q$-ball ($L$-ball), become warm dark matter suitable for the solution of the missing satellite problem and the cusp problem. In addition, $Ω_b - Ω_{DM}$ coincidence is naturally explained in this scenario.

Light wino dark matter in brane world cosmology

The thermal relic density of the wino-like neutralino dark matter in the brane world cosmology is studied. The expansion law at a high energy regime in the brane world cosmology is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, and the resultant relic density can be enhanced if the five dimensional Planck mass $M_5$ is low enough. We calculate the wino-like neutralino relic density in the anomaly mediated supersymmetry breaking scenario and show that the allowed region is dramatically modified from the one in the standard cosmology and the wino-like neutralino with mass of order 100 GeV can be a good candidate for the dark matter. Since the allowed region disappears eventually as $M_5$ is decreasing, we can find a lower bound on $M_5 \gtrsim 100$ TeV according to the neutralino dark matter hypothesis, namely the lower bound in order for the allowed region of the neutralino dark matter to exist.

Thermal leptogenesis in brane world cosmology

The thermal leptogenesis in brane world cosmology is studied. In brane world cosmology, the expansion law is modified from the four-dimensional standard cosmological one at high temperature regime in the early universe. As a result, the well-known upper bound on the lightest light neutrino mass induced by the condition for the out-of-equilibrium decay of the lightest heavy neutrino, $\tilde{m}_1 \lesssim 10^{-3}$ eV, can be moderated to be $\tilde{m}_1 \lesssim 10^{-3} {eV} \times (M_1/T_t)^2 $ in the case of $T_t \leq M_1$ with the lightest heavy neutrino mass ($M_1$) and the ``transition temperature'' ($T_t$), at which the modified expansion law in brane world cosmology is smoothly connecting with the standard one. This implies that the degenerate mass spectrum of the light neutrinos can be consistent with the thermal leptogenesis scenario. Furthermore, as recently pointed out, the gravitino problem in supersymmetric case can be solved if the transition temperature is low enough $T_t \lesssim 10^{6-7}$ GeV. Therefore, even in the supersymmetric case, thermal leptogenesis scenario can be successfully realized in brane world cosmology.

Hiding cosmic strings in supergravity D-term inflation

The influence of higher-order terms in the Kähler potential of the supergravity D-term inflation model on the density perturbation is studied. We show that these terms can make the inflaton potential flatter, which lowers the energy scale of inflation under the COBE/WMAP normalization. As a result, the mass per unit length of cosmic strings, which are produced at the end of inflation, can be reduced to a harmless but detectable level without introducing a tiny Yukawa coupling. Our scenario can naturally be implemented in models with a low cut-off as in Type I or Type IIB orientifold models.

Affleck-Dine baryogenesis and gravitino dark matter

Affleck-Dine baryogenesis in models where the gravitino is both the lightest supersymmetric particle and the dark matter candidate is investigated. For a high enough reheating temperature to produce sufficient gravitinos by thermal processes, the observed baryon asymmetry can be explained by Affleck-Dine baryogenesis as well as thermal leptogenesis. On the other hand, if the reheating temperature is not high enough, most of the gravitinos must be produced by the decay of the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle (NSP). Particularly, in the case where Q-balls cannot survive the evaporation, the gravitino number density is given by the NSP's thermal relic density. Interestingly, if Q-balls survive, they can be a source of gravitinos via the NSP decay. Then, we could find a new cosmological interesting region in parameter space because the gravitino number density does not relate to the NSP's thermal relic density.

Reheating and gravitino production in braneworld inflation

We consider the constraints that can be imposed on a wide class of Inflation models in modified gravity scenarios in which the Friedmann equation is modified by the inclusion of $ρ^2$ terms, where $ρ$ is the total energy density. In particular we obtain the reheating temperature and gravitino abundance associated with the end of inflation. Whereas models of chaotic inflation and natural inflation can easily avoid the conventional gravitino overproduction problem, we show that supersymmetric hybrid inflation models (driven by both F and D-terms) do not work in the $ρ^2$ dominated era. We also study inflation driven by exponetial potentials in this modified background, and show that the gravitino production is suppressed enough to avoid there being a problem, although other conditions severely constrain these models.

Neutralino dark matter in brane world cosmology

The thermal relic density of the neutralino dark matter in the brane world cosmology is studied. Since the expansion law at a high energy regime in the brane world cosmology is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, the resultant relic density can be altered. It has been found that, if the five dimensional Planck mass $M_5$ is lower than $10^4$ TeV, the brane world cosmological effect is significant at the decoupling time and the resultant relic density is enhanced. We calculate the neutralino relic density in the Constrained Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (CMSSM) and show that the allowed region is dramatically modified from the one in the standard cosmology and eventually disappears as $M_5$ is decreasing. We also find a new lower bound on $M_5 \gtrsim 600$ TeV based on the neutralino dark matter hypothesis, namely the lower bound in order for the allowed region of the neutralino dark matter to exist.

A brane world cosmological solution to the gravitino problem

We investigate the thermal production of gravitinos in the context of the brane world cosmology. Since the expansion law is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, the Boltzmann equation for the gravitino production is altered. We find that the late-time gravitino abundance is proportional to the ``transition temperature'', at which the modified expansion law in the brane world cosmology is connecting with the standard one, rather than the reheating temperature after inflation as in the standard cosmology. This means that, even though the reheating temperature is very high, we can avoid the overproduction of gravitinos by taking the transition temperature low enough. Therefore, the gravitino problem can be solved.

The Effect of Extra Dimension on Dark Matter

We investigate the thermal relic density of a cold dark matter in the brane world cosmology. Since the expansion law in a high energy regime is modified from the one in the standard cosmology, if the dark matter decouples in such a high energy regime its relic number density is affected by this modified expansion law. We derive analytic formulas for the number density of the dark matter. It is found that the resultant relic density is characterized by the ``transition temperature'' at which the modified expansion law in the brane world cosmology is connecting with the standard one, and can be considerably enhanced compared to that in the standard cosmology, if the transition temperature is low enough. The implication to the neutralino dark matter also is mentioned.

D-term Inflation and Nonperturbative Kahler Potential of Dilaton

We study the $D$-term inflation scenario with a nonperturbative Kähler potential of the dilaton field. Although the FI term which leads an inflationary expansion is given by the derivative of the Kähler potential with respect to the dilaton in heterotic string models with anomalous U(1), the too large magnitude is problematic for a viable $D$-term inflation. In this paper, we point out that the Kähler potential with a nonperturbative term can reduce the magnitude of FI term to desired values while both the dilaton stabilization and $D$-term domination in the potential are realized by nonperturbative superpotential.

Phenomenology of TeV Right-handed Neutrino and the Dark Matter Model

In a model of TeV right-handed (RH) neutrino by Krauss, Nasri, and Trodden, the sub-eV scale neutrino masses are generated via a 3-loop diagram with the vanishing see-saw mass forbidden by a discrete symmetry, and the TeV mass RH neutrino is simultaneously a novel candidate for the cold dark matter. However, we show that with a single RH neutrino it is not possible to generate two mass-square differences as required by the oscillation data. We extend the model by introducing one more TeV RH neutrino and show that it is possible to satisfy the oscillation pattern within the modified model. After studying in detail the constraints coming from the dark matter, lepton flavor violation and the muon anomalous magnetic moment, and the neutrinoless double beta decay, we explore the parameter space and derive predictions of the model. Finally, we study the production and decay signatures of the TeV RH neutrinos at TeV $e^+ e^-/μ^+ μ^-$ colliders.

Dilaton and Moduli Fields in D-term inflation

We investigate the possibility of $D$-term inflation within the framework of type I string-inspired models. Although $D$-term inflation model has the excellent property that it is free from the so-called $η$- problem, two serious problems appear when we embed $D$-term inflation in string theory, the magnitude of FI term and the rolling motion of the dilation. In the present paper, we analyze the potential of $D$-term inflation in type I inspired models and study the behavior of dilaton and twisted moduli fields. Adopting the non-perturbative superpotential induced by gaugino condensation, the twisted moduli can be stabilized. If the dilaton is in a certain range, it evolves very slowly and does not run away to infinity. Thus $D$-term dominated vacuum energy becomes available for driving inflation. By studying the density perturbation generated by the inflation model, we derive the constraints on model parameters and give some implications on $D$-term inflation in type I inspired models.

Stabilizing dilaton and baryogenesis

Entropy production by the dilaton decay is studied in the model where the dilaton acquires potential via gaugino condensation in the hidden gauge group. Its effect on the Affleck-Dine baryogenesis is investigated with and without non-renormalizable terms in the potential. It is shown that the baryon asymmetry produced by this mechanism with the higher-dimensional terms is diluted by the dilaton decay and can be regulated to the observed value.

Oscillating scalar-field dark matter in supergravity

We show that an oscillating scalar field in supergravity of mass of the order of $\sim$ TeV with a nonzero vacuum expectation value ($\sim 10^{10}$ GeV) can be a candidate of cold dark matter (CDM). To avoid the gravitino problem, we need a low reheating temperature after the primordial inflation. Then, the energy density of the oscillating scalar field satisfies all the requirements for CDM at present in the universe.
