Search for a $1^{-+}$ molecular state via $e^{+}e^{-} \to γD^{+}_{s} D_{s1}^{-}(2536) +c.c.$

We search, for the first time, for an exotic molecular state with quantum numbers $J^{PC}=1^{-+}$, called $X$, via the process $e^{+}e^{-} \to γD^{+}_{s} D_{s1}^{-}(2536) +c.c.$ using data samples corresponding to a luminosity of $5.8~\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$ across center-of-mass energies from 4.612 to 4.951~GeV, collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. No statistically significant signal is observed. The upper limits on the product of cross-section and branching fraction $σ({e^{+}e^{-} \to γX}) \times \mathcal{B}(X \to D^{+}_{s} D_{s1}^{-}(2536) +c.c.)$ at 90\% confidence level are reported for each energy point, assuming the $X$ mass to be 4.503~GeV/$c^{2}$ and the width 25, 50, 75, and 100~MeV, respectively.

Constraints on the photon polarisation in $b \to s γ$ transitions using $B_s^0 \rightarrow ϕe^+e^-$ decays

An angular analysis of the $B_s^0 \rightarrow ϕe^+e^-$ decay is performed using the proton-proton collision dataset collected between 2011 and 2018 by the LHCb experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $9\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ at centre-of-mass energies of 7, 8 and $13\,{\rm TeV}$. The analysis is performed in the very low dielectron invariant mass-squared region between $0.0009$ and $0.2615\,{\rm GeV}^2\!/c^4$. The longitudinal polarisation fraction of the $ϕ$ meson is measured to be less than $11.5\%$ at $90\%$ confidence level. The $A_{\mathrm{T}}^{\mathcal{R}e C\!P}$ observable, which is related to the lepton forward-backward asymmetry, is measured to be $0.116 \pm 0.155 \pm 0.006$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The transverse asymmetries, $A_{\mathrm{T}}^{(2)}$ and $A_{\mathrm{T}}^{\mathcal{I}m C\!P}$, which are sensitive to the virtual photon polarisation, are found to be $-0.045 \pm 0.235 \pm 0.014$ and $0.002 \pm 0.247 \pm 0.016$, respectively. The results are consistent with Standard Model predictions.

Measurement of Branching Fractions for $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow n K_{S}^{0} π^{+}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow n K_{S}^{0} K^{+}$

Based on 4.5 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data accumulated at center-of-mass energies between $4.600\,\mathrm{GeV}$ and $4.699\,\mathrm{GeV}$ with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction of the Cabibbo-favored decay $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow n K_{S}^{0} π^{+}$ with the precision improved by a factor of 2.8 and report the first evidence for the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow n K_{S}^{0} K^{+}$. The branching fractions for $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow n K_{S}^{0} π^{+}$ and $Λ_{c}^{+} \rightarrow n K_{S}^{0} K^{+}$ are determined to be $(1.86\pm0.08\pm0.04)\times10^{-2}$ and $\left(3.9^{+1.7}_{-1.4}\pm0.3\right)\times10^{-4}$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic.

Using $20.3~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, the branching fractions of three hadronic charm meson decays, $D^+\to ϕπ^+π^+π^-$, $D^+\to K^0_SK^+π^+π^-π^0$, and $D^+\to K^0_SK^+ω$, are measured for the first time to be $(0.54\pm0.19\pm0.02)\times 10^{-4}$, $(2.51\pm0.34\pm0.14)\times 10^{-4}$, and $(2.02\pm0.35\pm0.10)\times 10^{-4}$, respectively. Futhermore, the branching fractions of $D^+\to K^+K^-π^+π^+π^-$ and $D^+\to K^0_SK^+η$ are measured with improved precision, yielding values of $(0.66\pm0.11\pm0.03)\times 10^{-4}$ and $(2.27\pm0.22\pm0.05)\times 10^{-4}$, respectively.

Measurement of the CKM angle $γ$ in $B^{\pm} \to D K^*(892)^{\pm}$ decays

Measurements of $CP$ observables and the CKM angle $γ$ are performed in $B^{\pm} \to D K^*(892)^{\pm}$ decays, where $D$ represents a superposition of $D^0$ and $\overline{D}{}^0$ states, using the LHCb dataset collected during Run 1 (2011-2012) and Run 2 (2015-2018). A study of this channel is presented with the $D$ meson reconstructed in two-body final states $K^{\pm}π^{\mp}$, $K^+K^-$ and $π^+π^-$; four-body final states $K^{\pm}π^{\mp}π^{\pm}π^{\mp}$ and $π^+π^-π^+π^-$; and three-body final states $K^0_{S} π^+π^-$ and $K^0_{S} K^+ K^-$. This analysis includes the first observation of the suppressed $B^{\pm} \to [π^{\pm}K^{\mp}]_D K^{*\pm}$ and $B^{\pm} \to [π^{\pm}K^{\mp}π^{\pm}π^{\mp}]_D K^{*\pm}$ decays. The combined result gives $γ=(63\pm 13)^\circ$.

Measurement of cross sections of $e^+e^-\to K^0_S K^0_S ψ(3686)$ from $\sqrt{s}=$ 4.682 to 4.951 GeV

The process $e^+e^-\to K^0_S K^0_S ψ(3686)$ is studied by analyzing $e^+e^-$ collision data samples collected at eight center-of-mass energies ranging from 4.682 to 4.951 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $4.1~{\rm fb}^{-1}$. Observation of the $e^+e^-\to K^0_S K^0_S ψ(3686)$ process is found for the first time with a statistical significance of $6.3σ$, and the cross sections at each center-of-mass energy are measured. The ratio of cross sections of $e^+e^-\to K_S^0 K_S^0 ψ(3686)$ relative to $e^+e^-\to K^+ K^- ψ(3686)$ is determined to be $\frac{σ(e^+e^-\to K_S^0 K_S^0 ψ(3686))}{σ(e^+e^-\to K^+ K^- ψ(3686))}=0.45 \pm 0.25$, which is consistent with the prediction based on isospin symmetry. The uncertainty includes both statistical and systematic contributions. Additionally, the $K_S^0ψ(3686)$ invariant mass distribution is found to be consistent with three-body phase space. The significance of a contribution beyond three-body phase space is only $0.8σ$.

Partial wave analysis of $ψ(3686)\toΛ\barΣ^0π^0+c.c.$

Based on a sample of $(2712.4\pm14.3)\times10^6\;ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, a partial wave analysis of the decay $ψ(3686)\toΛ\barΣ^0π^0+c.c.$ is performed to investigate $Λ^*$ and $Σ^*$ resonances in the $π^0\barΣ^0$ and $π^0Λ$ invariant mass distributions. Significant contributions are found from the $Λ(1405)$, $Λ(1520)$, $Λ(1600)$, $Λ(1670)$, $Λ(1690)$, $Λ(1800)$, $Λ(1890)$, $Λ(2325)$, $Σ(1385)$, $Σ(1660)$, $Σ(1670)$, $Σ(1750)$, and $Σ(1910)$. The masses, widths, and production branching fractions for each component are determined. In addition, the branching fraction of $ψ(3686)\toΛ\barΣ^0π^0+c.c.$ is measured to be $(1.544\pm0.013\pm0.069)\times10^{-4}$ for the first time, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic.

Search for $Λ$-$\barΛ $ oscillation in $J/ψ\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$ decay

Using $(10087\pm44)\times 10^{6}$ $J/ψ$ decays collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for baryon number violation via $Λ-\barΛ$ oscillation in the decay $J/ψ\to Λ\barΛ$. No evidence for $Λ-\barΛ$ oscillation is observed. The upper limit on the time-integrated probability of $Λ-\barΛ$ oscillation is estimated to be $1.4\times 10^{-6}$, corresponding to an oscillation parameter less than $2.1\times 10^{-18}~\mathrm{GeV}$ at $90\%$ confidence level.

Measurement of exclusive $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ production at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV

Measurements are presented of the cross-section for the central exclusive production of $J/ψ\toμ^+μ^-$ and $ψ(2S)\toμ^+μ^-$ processes in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13 $ TeV with 2016-2018 data. They are performed by requiring both muons to be in the LHCb acceptance (with pseudorapidity $2<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5$) and mesons in the rapidity range $2.0 < y < 4.5$. The integrated cross-section results are \begin{equation*} σ_{J/ψ\toμ^+μ^-}(2.0<y_{J/ψ}<4.5,2.0<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5) = 400 \pm 2 \pm 5 \pm 12 \,{\rm pb}\,, \end{equation*} \begin{equation*} σ_{ψ(2S)\toμ^+μ^-}(2.0<y_{ψ(2S)}<4.5,2.0<η_{μ^\pm} < 4.5) = 9.40 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.27 \,{\rm pb}\,, \end{equation*} where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic and due to the luminosity determination. In addition, a measurement of the ratio of $ψ(2S)$ and $J/ψ$ cross-sections, at an average photon-proton centre-of-mass energy of 1 TeV, is performed, giving \begin{equation*} \frac{σ_{ψ(2S)}}{σ_{J/ψ}} = 0.1763 \pm 0.0029 \pm 0.0008 \pm 0.0039 \,, \end{equation*} where the first uncertainty is statistical, the second systematic and the third due to the knowledge of the involved branching fractions. For the first time, the dependence of the $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ cross-sections on the total transverse momentum transfer is determined in $pp$ collisions and is found consistent with the behaviour observed in electron-proton collisions.

Precision measurement of the branching fraction for the decay $ψ(2S)\rightarrowτ^{+}τ^{-}$

Using $(2259.3 \pm 11.1)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(2S)$ events acquired with the BESIII detector, the branching fraction of $ψ(2S)\rightarrowτ^{+}τ^{-}$ is measured with improved precision to be $\mathcal{B}_{ψ(2S)\rightarrowτ^{+}τ^{-}}=(3.240~\pm~0.023~\pm~0.081)\times 10^{-3}$, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively, which is consistent with the world average value within one standard deviation. This value, along with those for the branching fractions of the $ψ(2S)$ decaying into $e^{+}e^{-}$ and $μ^{+}μ^{-}$, is in good agreement with the relation predicted by the sequential lepton hypothesis. Combining the branching fraction values with the leptonic width of the $ψ(2S)$, the total width of the $ψ(2S)$ is determined to be (287 $\pm$ 9) keV.

Measurement of the Decay $Ξ^{0}\toΛγ$ with Entangled $Ξ^{0}\barΞ^{0}$ Pairs

In this Letter, a systematic study of the weak radiative hyperon decay $Ξ^{0}\toΛγ$ at an electron-positron collider using entangled $Ξ^{0}\barΞ^{0}$ pair events is presented. The absolute branching fraction for this decay has been measured for the first time, and is $\left(1.347 \pm 0.066_{\mathrm stat.}\pm0.054_{\mathrm syst.}\right)\times 10^{-3}$. The decay asymmetry parameter, which characterizes the effect of parity violation in the decay, is determined to be $-0.741 \pm 0.062_{\mathrm stat.}\pm 0.019_{\mathrm syst.}$. The obtained results are consistent with the world average values within the uncertainties, offering valuable insights into the underlying mechanism governing the weak radiative hyperon decays. The charge conjugation parity ($CP$) symmetries of branching fraction and decay asymmetry parameter in the decay are also studied. No statistically significant violation of charge conjugation parity symmetry is observed.

Long-lived particle reconstruction downstream of the LHCb magnet

Charged-particle trajectories are usually reconstructed with the LHCb detector using combined information from the tracking devices placed upstream and downstream of the 4\,T\,m dipole magnet. Trajectories reconstructed using only information from the tracker downstream of the dipole magnet, which are referred to as T tracks, have not been used for physics analysis to date. The challenges of the reconstruction of long-lived particles using T tracks for use in physics analyses are discussed and solutions are proposed. The feasibility and the tracking performance are studied using samples of long-lived $\varLambda$ and $K_S^0$ hadrons decaying between 6.0 and 7.6 metres downstream of the proton-proton collision point, thereby traversing most of the magnetic field region and providing maximal sensitivity to magnetic and electric dipole moments. The reconstruction can be expanded upstream to about 2.5 meters for use in direct searches of exotic long-lived particles. The data used in this analysis have been recorded between 2015 and 2018 and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 6\,fb$^{-1}$. The results obtained demonstrate the possibility to further extend the decay volume and the physics reach of the LHCb experiment.

Partial wave analyses of $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}π^0$ and $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}η$

Using a sample of $(2712\pm14)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform partial wave analyses of the decays $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}π^0$ and $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}η$. The branching fractions of $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}π^0$ and $ψ(3686)\to p\bar{p}η$ are determined to be $(133.9\pm11.2\pm2.3)\times10^{-6}$ or $(183.7\pm13.7\pm3.2)\times10^{-6}$ and $(61.5\pm6.5\pm1.1)\times10^{-6}$ or $(84.4\pm6.9\pm1.4)\times10^{-6}$, respectively, where the two solutions are caused by an ambiguous phase angle between resonant and continuum processes. Several well-established $N^*$ states are observed in the $pπ^0$ and $pη$ systems, and the corresponding branching fractions are measured. The ratio of decay widths $Γ_{N(1535)\to Nη}/Γ_{N(1535)\to Nπ}$ is determined to be $0.99\pm0.05\pm0.19$.

Measurement of the Inclusive Cross Sections of Prompt $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ Production in $e^{+}e^{-}$ Annihilation from $\sqrt{s}=3.808$ to $4.951$ GeV

The inclusive cross sections of prompt $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ production are measured at center-of-mass energies from 3.808 to 4.951 GeV. The dataset used is 22 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ annihilation data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The results obtained are in agreement with the previous BESIII measurements of exclusive $J/ψ$ and $ψ(3686)$ production. The average values obtained for the cross sections measured in the center-of-mass energy ranges from 4.527 to 4.951 GeV for $J/ψ$ and from 4.843 to 4.951 GeV for $ψ(3686)$, where the impact of known resonances is negligible, are $14.0\pm1.7\pm3.1$ pb and $15.3\pm3.0$ pb, respectively. For $J/ψ$, the first and the second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. For $ψ(3686)$, the uncertainty is total. These values are useful for testing charmonium production models.

Measurement of the branching fraction ratios $R(D^{+})$ and $R(D^{*+})$ using muonic $τ$ decays

The branching fraction ratios of $\overline{B}^0\to D^+τ^-\overlineν_τ$ and $\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}τ^-\overlineν_τ$ decays are measured with respect to their muonic counterparts, using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.0 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the LHCb experiment in proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13$ TeV. The reconstructed final states are formed by combining $D^+$ mesons with $τ^-\toμ^-\overlineν_μν_τ$ candidates, where the $D^+$ is reconstructed via the $D^+\to K^-π^+π^+$ decay. The results are \begin{align*} R(D^{+}) &= 0.249 \pm 0.043 \pm 0.047, R(D^{*+}) &= 0.402 \pm 0.081\pm 0.085, \end{align*} where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The two measurements have a correlation coefficient of $-0.39$ and are compatible with the Standard Model.

Production of $η$ and $η'$ mesons in $pp$ and $p$Pb collisions

The production of $η$ and $η'$ mesons is studied in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions collected with the LHCb detector. Proton-proton collisions are studied at center-of-mass energies of $5.02$ and $13~{\rm TeV}$, and proton-lead collisions are studied at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon of $8.16~{\rm TeV}$. The studies are performed in center-of-mass rapidity regions $2.5<y_{\rm c.m.}<3.5$ (forward rapidity) and $-4.0<y_{\rm c.m.}<-3.0$ (backward rapidity) defined relative to the proton beam direction. The $η$ and $η'$ production cross sections are measured differentially as a function of transverse momentum for $1.5<p_{\rm T}<10~{\rm GeV}$ and $3<p_{\rm T}<10~{\rm GeV}$, respectively. The differential cross sections are used to calculate nuclear modification factors. The nuclear modification factors for $η$ and $η'$ mesons agree at both forward and backward rapidity, showing no significant evidence of mass dependence. The differential cross sections of $η$ mesons are also used to calculate $η/π^0$ cross section ratios, which show evidence of a deviation from the world average. These studies offer new constraints on mass-dependent nuclear effects in heavy-ion collisions, as well as $η$ and $η'$ meson fragmentation.
