Notes on noninvertible quantum symmetries in two dimensions

In this note we describe a systematic procedure for computing partition functions of noninvertible Rep ($G$) quantum symmetry actions on two-dimensional nonabelian $G$ orbifolds. We apply this procedure to multiplicity-free examples for several nonabelian groups, and check explicitly in those examples that the partition function of a two-dimensional Rep ($G$)-gauged $G$ orbifold, for nonabelian $G$, matches that of the original theory, as expected on general principles. This fills a minor gap in the literature, making quantum symmetries in two-dimensional nonabelian orbifolds more concrete.

HR-GO I: Comprehensive NLTE abundance analysis of the Cetus stream

Dwarf galaxy streams encode vast amounts of information essential to understanding early galaxy formation and nucleosynthesis channels. Due to the variation in the timescales of star formation history in their progenitors, stellar streams serve as `snapshots' that record different stages of galactic chemical evolution. This study focusses on the Cetus stream, stripped from a low-mass dwarf galaxy. We carried out a comprehensive analysis of the chemical composition of 22 member stars based on their high-resolution spectra. We derived abundances for up to 28 chemical species from C to Dy and, for 20 of them, we account for the departures from local thermodynamic equilibrium. We confirm that the Cetus stream has a mean metallicity of [Fe/H] = $-2.11$ $\pm$ 0.21. All observed Cetus stars are $\alpha$ enhanced with [$\alpha$/Fe] $\simeq$ 0.3. The absence of the $\alpha$-`knee' implies that star formation stopped before iron production in type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) became substantial. Neutron capture element abundances suggest that both the rapid (r-) and the main slow (s-) processes contributed to their origin. The decrease in [Eu/Ba] from a typical r-process value of [Eu/Ba] = 0.7 to 0.3 with increasing [Ba/H] indicates a distinct contribution of the r- and s-processes to the chemical composition of different Cetus stars. For barium, the r-process contribution varies from 100 % to 20 % in different sample stars, with an average value of 50 %. Our abundance analysis indicates that the star formation in the Cetus progenitor ceased after the onset of the main s-process in low- to intermediate-mass asymptotic giant branch stars but before SNe Ia played an important role. A distinct evolution scenario is revealed by comparing the abundances in the Ursa Minor dwarf spheroidal galaxy, showing the diversity in the chemical evolution of low-mass dwarf galaxies.

The Pristine survey -- XXII. A serendipitous discovery of an extremely Li-rich very metal-poor giant and a new method of $^6$Li/$^7$Li isotope measurement

We report the serendipitous discovery of a very metal-poor (VMP) Li-rich giant star ($T_{\rm eff}$ = 4690$\pm$80 K, log g = 1.34$\pm$0.13, [Fe/H] = $-2.43\pm$0.07). We analyse the Li I 6103 and 6707 \r{A} lines accounting for departures from local thermodynamic equilibrium (NLTE) and correcting for 3D effects using literature data, which yields a lithium abundance $\log\varepsilon_{Li} = 3.42\pm0.07$. Comparing lithium abundances from the two lines, in 1D NLTE we measure the isotope ratio $^6$Li/$^7$Li = 1.64$^{+1.49}_{-1.08}$ %. When correcting for 3D effects, we detect the fragile $^6$Li isotope at $2$-sigma level and the ratio $^6$Li/$^7$Li = 5.65$^{+5.05}_{-2.51}$ %. To our knowledge, this is the first $^6$Li/$^7$Li measurement in an extremely Li-rich VMP star. The Cameron-Fowler mechanism, which is proposed to produce Li-rich stars, does not imply $^6$Li production and is therefore inconsistent with our measurement when applying 3D corrections. We also derive NLTE abundances for 16 elements, most of which show similar abundances to those found in VMP stars. Sodium is an exception: [Na/Fe]$_{\rm NLTE, 1D}$ = 0.07 $\pm 0.03$, which is 0.5 dex higher than what is typical for VMP stars. This star joins the sample of rare Li-rich VMP stars, and we offer a novel way to constrain the source of lithium in such stars through isotope ratio measurements.

High-precision muon decay predictions for ALP searches

We present an improved theoretical prediction of the positron energy spectrum for the polarised Michel decay $\mu^+\to e^+ \nu_e\bar{\nu}_\mu$. In addition to the full next-to-next-to-leading order correction of order $\alpha^2$ in the electromagnetic coupling, we include logarithmically enhanced terms at even higher orders. Logarithms due to collinear emission are included at next-to-leading accuracy up to order $\alpha^4$. At the endpoint of the Michel spectrum, soft photon emission results in large logarithms that are resummed up to next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We apply our results in the context of the MEG II and Mu3e experiments to estimate the impact of the theory error on the branching ratio sensitivity for the lepton-flavour-violating decay $\mu^+\to e^+ X$ of a muon into an axion-like particle $X$.

May the four be with you: Novel IR-subtraction methods to tackle NNLO calculations

In this report, we present a discussion about different frameworks to perform precise higher-order computations for high-energy physics. These approaches implement novel strategies to deal with infrared and ultraviolet singularities in quantum field theories. A special emphasis is devoted to the local cancellation of these singularities, which can enhance the efficiency of computations and lead to discover novel mathematical properties in quantum field theories.

QED at NNLO with McMule

McMule is a framework for fully differential higher-order QED calculations of scattering and decay processes involving leptons. It keeps finite lepton masses, which regularises collinear singularities. Soft singularities are treated with dimensional regularisation and using FKS$^\ell$ subtraction. We describe the implementation of the framework in Fortran 95, list the processes that are currently implemented, and give instructions on how to run the code. In addition, we present new phenomenological results for muon-electron scattering and lepton-proton scattering, including the dominant NNLO corrections. While the applications presented focus on MUonE, MUSE, and P2, the code can be used for a large number of planned and running experiments.

Structure and dielectric properties of Ba$_2$Cu$_x$Y$_{1-x}$TaO$_{6-y}$ double perovskite

In this paper, we reported the effect of Cu doping on the structural and dielectric properties of Ba$_2$Y$_{1-x}$Cu$_x$TaO$_{6-y}$ (0.00 $\leq$ x $\leq$ 0.50) ceramics at room temperature. The Copper for Yttrium substitution reduces the sintering temperature and leads to structural changes in the Ba$_2$YTaO$_6$ rock-salt crystalline structure. Dielectric permittivity and complex impedance spectroscopy measurements suggested enhancement of the dielectric constant and occurrence of interfacial Maxwell-Wagner polarization.

Three-Dimensional Simulations of Neutrino-Driven Core-Collapse Supernovae from Low-Mass Single and Binary Star Progenitors

We present a suite of seven 3D supernova simulations of non-rotating low-mass progenitors using multi-group neutrino transport. Our simulations cover single star progenitors with zero-age main sequence masses between $9.6 M_\odot$ and $12.5 M_\odot$ and (ultra)stripped-envelope progenitors with initial helium core masses between $2.8 M_\odot$ and $3.5 M_\odot$. We find explosion energies between $0.1\,\mathrm{Bethe}$ and $0.4\,\mathrm{Bethe}$, which are still rising by the end of the simulations. Although less energetic than typical events, our models are compatible with observations of less energetic explosions of low-mass progenitors. In six of our models, the mass outflow rate already exceeds the accretion rate onto the proto-neutron star, and the mass and angular momentum of the compact remnant have closely approached their final value, barring the possibility of later fallback. While the proto-neutron star is still accelerated by the gravitational tug of the asymmetric ejecta, the acceleration can be extrapolated to obtain estimates for the final kick velocity. We obtain gravitational neutron star masses between $1.22 M_\odot$ and $1.44 M_\odot$, kick velocities between $11\, \mathrm{km}\, \mathrm{s}^{-1}$ and $695\, \mathrm{km}\, \mathrm{s}^{-1}$, and spin periods from $20\, \mathrm{ms}$ to $2.7\,\mathrm{s}$, which suggests that typical neutron star birth properties can be naturally obtained in the neutrino-driven paradigm. We find a loose correlation between the explosion energy and the kick velocity. There is no indication of spin-kick alignment, but a correlation between the kick velocity and the neutron star angular momentum, which needs to be investigated further as a potential point of tension between models and observations.

$ \boldsymbol{\gamma} $-vibration in $^{198}$Hg

Low lying states of $^{198}$Hg have been investigated via $^{197}$Au($^{7}$Li, $ \alpha $2n$ \gamma $)$ ^{198} $Hg reaction at E$ _{\text{beam}} $ = 33 MeV and 38 MeV and the members of $ \gamma $-vibrational band have been identified. Results are compared with the systematic of this mass region and found in agreement. Observed band structures have been interpreted using the theoretical framework of microscopic triaxial projected shell model (TPSM) approach and it is shown that TPSM results are in fair agreement with the observed energies.

Shape coexistence in 153Ho

The high-spin states in 153Ho, have been studied by 139 57 La(20Ne, 6n) reaction at a projectile energy of 139 MeV at Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre (VECC), Kolkata, India, utilizing an earlier campaign of Indian National Gamma Array (INGA) setup. Data from gamma-gamma coincidence, directional correlation and polarization measurements have been analyzed to assign and confirm the spins and parities of the levels. We have suggested a few additions and revisions of the reported level scheme of 153Ho. The RF-gamma time difference spectra have been useful to confirm the half-life of an isomer in this nucleus. From the comparison of experimental and theoretical results, it is found that there are definite indications of shape coexistence in this nucleus. The experimental and calculated lifetimes of several isomers have been compared to follow the coexistence and evolution of shape with increasing spin.

Supersymmetric analogue of BC_N type rational integrable models with polarized spin reversal operators

We derive the exact spectra as well as partition functions for a class of $BC_N$ type of spin Calogero models, whose Hamiltonians are constructed by using supersymmetric analogues of polarized spin reversal operators (SAPSRO). The strong coupling limit of these spin Calogero models yields $BC_N$ type of Polychronakos-Frahm (PF) spin chains with SAPSRO. By applying the freezing trick, we obtain an exact expression for the partition functions of such PF spin chains. We also derive a formula which expresses the partition function of any $BC_N$ type of PF spin chain with SAPSRO in terms of partition functions of several $A_K$ type of supersymmetric PF spin chains, where $K\leq N-1$. Subsequently we show that an extended boson-fermion duality relation is obeyed by the partition functions of the $BC_N$ type of PF chains with SAPSRO. Some spectral properties of these spin chains, like level density distribution and nearest neighbour spacing distribution, are also studied.

Complex fragment emission in low energy light-ion reactions

Inclusive energy spectra of the complex fragments (3 $\leq$ Z $\leq$ 5) emitted in the reactions $^{12}$C (77 MeV)+ $^{28}$Si, $^{11}$B (64 MeV)+ $^{28}$Si and $^{12}$C (73 MeV)+ $^{27}$Al (all having the same excitation energy of $ \sim$ 67 MeV), have been measured in the angular range of 10$^\circ$ $\lesssim \theta_{lab} \lesssim$ 60$^\circ$. The fully energy damped (fusion-fission) and the partially energy damped (deep inelastic) components of the fragment energy spectra have been extracted. It has been found that the yields of the fully energy damped fragments for all the above reactions are in conformity with the respective statistical model predictions. The time scales of various deep inelastic fragment emissions have been extracted from the angular distribution data. The angular momentum dissipation in deep inelastic collisions has been estimated from the data and it has been found to be close to the corresponding sticking limit value.

New Primary Mechanisms for the Synthesis of Rare 9Be in Early Supernovae

We present two new primary mechanisms for the synthesis of the rare nucleus 9Be, both triggered by nu-induced production of 3H followed by 4He(3H,gamma)7Li in the He shells of core-collapse supernovae. For progenitors of ~8M_sun, 7Li(3H,n_0)9Be occurs during the rapid expansion of the shocked He shell. Alternatively, for ultra-metal-poor progenitors of ~11-15M_sun, 7Li(n,gamma)8Li(n,gamma)9Li(e^-anti-nu_e)9Be occurs with neutrons produced by 4He(anti-nu_e,e^+n)3H, assuming a hard effective anti-nu_e spectrum from oscillations (which also leads to heavy element production through rapid neutron capture) and a weak explosion (so the 9Be survives shock passage). We discuss the associated production of 7Li and 11B, noting patterns in LiBeB production that might distinguish the new mechanisms from others.

Quantum effects in classical chaos through intermittency

The semi-quantal dynamics is applied to investigate the influence of quantum fluctuations on problems in classical chaos through intermittency involving bifurcations. The results of the numerical calculations indicate that quantum effects enhance the tendency to chaos in both the problems of inverted pitchfork and saddle-node bifurcations discussed here.

A Long, Cold, Early r-process? Neutrino-induced Nucleosynthesis in He Shells Revisited

We revisit a neutrino-driven r-process mechanism in the He shell of a core-collapse supernova, finding that it could succeed in early stars of metallicity < solar/1000, at relatively low temperatures and neutron densities, producing A ~ 130 and 195 abundance peaks over ~ 10-20 s. The mechanism is sensitive to the neutrino emission model and to neutrino oscillations. We discuss the implications of an r-process that could alter interpretations of abundance data from metal-poor stars, and point out the need for further calculations that include effects of the supernova shock.

Quantitative magnetic force microscopy on permalloy dots using an iron filled carbon nanotube probe

We have characterized a new Magnetic Force Microscopy (MFM) probe based on an iron filled carbon nanotube (FeCNT) using MFM imaging on permalloy (Py) disks saturated in a high magnetic field perpendicular to the disk plane. The experimental data are accurately modeled by describing the FeCNT probe as having a single magnetic monopole at its tip whose effective magnetic charge is determined by the diameter of the iron wire enclosed in the carbon nanotube and its saturation magnetization 4 \pi M_s ~ 2.2 x 10^4 G. A magnetic monopole probe enables quantitative measurements of the magnetic field gradient close to the sample surface. The lateral resolution is defined by the diameter of the iron wire ~15 nm and the probe-sample separation. As a demonstration, the magnetic field gradients close to the surface of a Py dot in domain and vortex states were imaged.

Coulomb dissociation of 9Li and the rate of the 8Li(n,g)9Li reaction

We calculate the Coulomb dissociation of 9Li on Pb and U targets at 28.5 MeV/A beam energy within a finite range distorted wave Born approximation formalism of the breakup reactions. Invoking the principle of detailed balance, these cross sections are used to determine the excitation function and subsequently the rate of the radiative capture reaction 8Li(n,g)9Li at astrophysical energies. Our method is free from the uncertainties associated with the multipole strength distributions of the 9Li nucleus. The rate of this reaction at a temperature of 10^9K is found to be about 2900 cm^3 mole^{-1} s^{-1}.
