Squared torsion $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ gravity and its cosmological implications

We present the coupling of the torsion scalar $T$ and the trace of energy-momentum tensor $\mathcal{T}$, which produces new modified $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ gravity. Moreover, we consider the functional form $f(T,\mathcal{T}) =α\mathcal{T}+βT^2$ where $α$ and $β$ are free parameters. As an alternative to a cosmological constant, the $f(T,\mathcal{T})$ theory may offer a theoretical explanation of the late-time acceleration. The recent observational data to the considered model especially the bounds on model parameters is applied in detail. Furthermore, we analyze the cosmological behavior of the deceleration, effective equation of state and total equation of state parameters. However, it is seen that the deceleration parameter depicts the transition from deceleration to acceleration and the effective dark sector shows a quintessence-like evolution.

Casimir Wormholes in Modified Symmetric Teleparallel Gravity

In recent years there has been a growing interest in the field of Casimir wormhole. In classical general relativity (GR), it is known that the null energy condition (NEC) has to be violated to have a wormhole to be stable. The Casimir effect is an experimentally verified effect that is caused due to the vacuum field fluctuations in quantum field theory. Since the Casimir effect provides the negative energy density, thus this act as an ideal candidate for the exotic matter needed for the stability of the wormhole. In this paper, we study the Casimir effect on the wormhole geometry in modified symmetric teleparallel gravity or $f(Q)$ gravity, where the non-metricity scalar $Q$ drives the gravitation interaction. We consider three systems of the Casimir effect such as (i) two parallel plates, (ii) two parallel cylindrical plates, and (iii) two-sphere separated by a large distance to make it more experimentally feasible. Further, we studied the obtained wormhole solutions for each case with energy conditions at the wormhole throat with radius $r_0$ and found that some arbitrary quantity violates the classical energy conditions at the wormhole throat. Furthermore, the behavior of the equation of state (EoS) is also analyzed for each case. Finally, we investigate the stability of the obtained Casimir effect wormhole solutions with the generalized Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation.

Bulk viscous fluid in symmetric teleparallel cosmology: theory versus experiment

The standard formulation of General Relativity Theory, in the absence of a cosmological constant, is unable to explain the responsible mechanism for the observed late-time cosmic acceleration. On the other hand, by inserting the cosmological constant in Einstein's field equations it is possible to describe the cosmic acceleration, but the cosmological constant suffers from an unprecedented fine-tunning problem. This motivates one to modify Einstein's space-time geometry of General Relativity. The $f(Q)$ modified theory of gravity is an alternative theory to General Relativity, where the non-metricity scalar $Q$ is the responsible candidate for gravitational interactions. In the present work we consider a Friedmann-Lemâitre-Robertson-Walker cosmological model dominated by bulk viscous cosmic fluid in $f(Q)$ gravity with the functional form $f(Q)=αQ^n$, where $α$ and $n$ are free parameters of the model. We constrain our model with the recent Pantheon supernovae data set of 1048 data points, Hubble data set of 31 data points and baryon acoustic oscillations data set consisting of six points. For higher values of redshift, it is clear that the $f(Q)$ cosmology better fits data than standard cosmology. We present the evolution of our deceleration parameter with redshift and it properly predicts a transition from decelerated to accelerated phases of the universe expansion. Also, we present the evolution of density, bulk viscous pressure and the effective equation of state parameter with redshift. Those show that bulk viscosity in a cosmic fluid is a valid candidate to acquire the negative pressure to drive the cosmic expansion efficiently. We also examine the behavior of different energy conditions to test the viability of our cosmological $f(Q)$ model. Furthermore, the statefinder diagnostics are also investigated in order to distinguish among different dark energy models.

Constraining Anisotropic Cosmological Model in $f(\mathcal{R},\mathscr{L}_m)$ Gravity

The observational evidence regarding the present cosmological aspects tells us about the presence of very little anisotropy in the universe on a large scale. Here, in this paper, we attempt to study locally rotationally symmetric (LRS) homogeneous Bianchi-I spacetime with the isotropic matter distribution. This is done within the framework of $f(\mathcal{R},\mathscr{L}_m)$ gravity. Particularly, we consider a non-linear $f(\mathcal{R},\mathscr{L}_m)$ model, $f(\mathcal{R},\mathscr{L}_m)=\dfrac{1}{2}\mathcal{R}+\mathscr{L}_m^{\,α}$. Furthermore, $ω$, the equation of state parameter, which is vital stuff in determining the present phase of the universe is constrained. To constrain the model parameters and the equation of state parameter, we use 57 Hubble data points and 1048 Pantheon supernovae type Ia data sample. And, for our statistical analysis, we use Markoc Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) simulation. Moreover, with the help of obtained values of parameters, we measure the anisotropy parameter for our model.

Reconstruction of $Λ$CDM Universe in $f(Q)$ Gravity

In this manuscript, we present a number of fascinating explicit reconstructions for the $f(Q)$ gravity from the background of Friedmann-Laîmatre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) evolution history. We find the more general functions of non-metricity scalar $Q$ that admit exact $Λ$CDM expansion history. Adding extra degrees of freedom to the matter sector is the only method to get the scale factor to behave in this manner for more generic functions of $Q$. In addition, a cosmological reconstruction for modified $f(Q)$ gravity is constructed in terms of e-folding. It is shown how any FLRW cosmology can arise from a specific $f(Q)$ theory. We also reconstruct the well-known cosmological evolution for the specific examples of $Λ$CDM cosmology.

Wormhole in $f(Q)$ gravity

In this paper, exact asymptotically flat wormhole solutions in the context of symmetric teleparallel gravity, i.e., $f(Q)$ theory of gravity, are investigated. Since modified theories of gravity provide new field equations, we have analyzed some possible wormhole solutions by using modified field equations. Four different forms of the $f(Q)$ function are considered then the shape function is calculated with some different equations of state. Also we have used a power-law shape function with these models, which lead to an asymptotically barotropic equation of state. Some physical and mathematical properties of the solutions, like energy conditions and boundary conditions, are addressed .

Compact stars admitting Finch-Skea symmetry in the presence of various matter fields

In the present article authors investigate the anisotropic stellar solutions admitting Finch-Skea symmetry (viable and non-singular metric potentials) in the presence of some exotic matter fields, such as: Bose-Einstein Condensate (BEC) dark matter, Kalb-Ramond fully anisotropic rank-2 tensor field from the low-energy string theory effective action, gauge field imposing $U(1)$ symmetry. Interior spacetime is matched with both Schwarzchild and Reissner-Nördstrom vacuum spacetimes for BEC, KB and gauge fields respectively. Further, we have studied energy conditions, Equation of State (EoS), radial derivatives of energy density and anisotropic pressures, Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equilibrium condition, relativistic adiabatic index, sound speed and surface redshift. Most of the aforementioned conditions were satisfied and therefore solutions derived in the current study lie in the physically acceptable regime.

Buchdahl quark stars within $f(Q)$ theory

In the present paper, authors study the strange stars with the MIT Bag EoS admitting Buchdahl symmetry (non-singular and physically viable metric potential) in the both linear $f(Q)=aQ+b$ and non-linear $f(Q)=Q+aQ^b$ forms of modified symmetric teleparallel gravitation. In order to obtain the correct form of Buchdahl metric coefficients, they matched interior strange star spacetime with the exterior Schwarzschild vacuum spacetime. As a strange star candidate, PSRJ1416-2230 has been used with mass $M=1.69M_\odot$ and radius $R=9.69R_\odot$. For either linear and non-linear $f(Q)$ gravities, they probed Null, Dominant and Strong Energy Conditions as well as the radial, tangential Equation of State (EoS), gradients of the perfect fluid energy-momentum tensor elements, Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equilibrium condition, relativistic adiabatic index and causality conditions, surface redshift. It was found that strange stars in the linear and non-linear $f(Q)$ gravity show physically viable behavior, respect energy and causality conditions, has EoS in the bounds $0\leqω\leq1$ and surface redshift does not exceed 2, as expected.

Interaction of divergence-free deceleration parameter in Weyl-type $f(Q,T)$ gravity

We study an extension of symmetric teleparallel gravity i.e. Weyl-type $f(Q,T)$ gravity and the divergence-free parametrization of the deceleration parameter $q(z) = q_{0}+q_{1}\frac{z(1+z)}{1+z^2}$ ($q_{0}$ and $q_{1}$ are free constants) to explore the evolution of the universe. By considering the above parametric form of $q$, we derive the Hubble solution and further impose it in the Friedmann equations of Weyl-type $f(Q, T)$ gravity. To see whether this model can challenge the $Λ$CDM limits, we computed the constraints on the model parameters using the Bayesian analysis for the Observational Hubble data ($OHD$) and the Pantheon sample ($SNe\,Ia$). Furthermore, the deceleration parameter depicts the accelerating behavior of the universe with the present value $q_0$ and the transition redshift $z_t$ (at which the expansion transits from deceleration to acceleration) with $1-σ$ and $2-σ$ confidence level. We also examine the evolution of the energy density, pressure, and effective equation of state parameters. Finally, we demonstrate that the divergence-free parametric form of the deceleration parameter is consistent with the Weyl-type $f(Q,T)$ gravity.

Reply to "Comment on `Energy Conditions in $f(Q)$ gravity'"

Recently, Avik De and L.T. How claim that we have not followed an effective theory approach for $f(Q)$ gravity, missing relevant terms to compute the energy conditions [Phys. Rev. D 102, 024057 (2020)]. They also state that we did not present how the pressure and energy density follow a set of energy condition criteria. In this reply we show how the effective density and effective pressure found in the comment yield to the same Fridmann Equations presented in our article. Therefore, we claim that the comment only introduces an equivalent path to derive the Friedmann Equations and that the extra terms found by Avik De and L.T. How are consequence of their specific definition for their effective density and effective pressure. However, such terms do not change the equations for $ρ$ and $p$. Consequently, these extra terms are not going to change the energy constraints presented by us in Phys. Rev. D 102, 024057 (2020).

Can $f(R)$ gravity isotropize a pre-bounce contracting universe?

We address the important issue of isotropisation of a pre-bounce contracting phase in $f(R)$ gravity, which would be relevant to construct any viable nonsingular bouncing scenario in $f(R)$ gravity. The main motivation behind this work is to investigate whether the $f(R)$ gravity, by itself, can isotropise a contracting universe starting initially with small anisotropy without incorporating a super-stiff or non-ideal fluid, that is impossible in general relativity. Considering Bianchi I cosmology and employing a dynamical system analysis, we see that this is not possible for $R^n$ ($n>1$) and $R+αR^2$ ($α>0$) theory, but possible for $\frac{1}αe^{αR}$ ($α>0$) theory. On the other hand, if one does not specify an $f(R)$ theory a priori but demands a cosmology smoothly connecting an ekpyrotic contraction phase to a nonsingular bounce, the ekpyrotic phase \emph{may} not fulfil the condition for isotropisation and physically viability simultaneously.

Impact of curvature based geometric constraints on $F(R)$ theory

Theories of gravity are fundamentally a relation between matter and the geometric structure of the underlying spacetime. So once we put some additional restrictions on the spacetime geometry, the theory of gravity is bound to get the impact, irrespective of whether it is general relativity or the modified theories of gravity. In the present article, we consider two curvature-based constraints, namely the almost pseudo-Ricci symmetric and weakly Ricci symmetric condition. As a novel result, such spacetimes with non-null associated vectors are entirely classified, and then applying the obtained results, we investigate these spacetimes as solutions of the $F(R)$-gravity theory. The modified Friedmann equations are derived and analysed in a model-independent way first. Finally, two $F(R)$ gravity models are examined for recent observational constrained values of the deceleration, jerk, and Hubble parameters. We further discuss the behavior of energy conditions.

Accretion flows around exotic tidal wormholes I. Ray-tracing

This paper investigates the various spherically symmetric wormhole solutions in the presence of tidal forces and applies numerous methods, such as test particle orbital dynamics, ray-tracing and microlensing. We make the theoretical predictions on the test particle orbital motion around the tidal wormholes with the use of normalized by $\mathcal{L}^2$ effective potential. In order to obtain the ray-tracing images (of both geometrically thin and thick accretion disks, relativistic jets), we properly modify the open source $\texttt{GYOTO}$ code with python interface. We applied this techniques to probe the accretion flows nearby the Schwarzschild-like and charged Reissner-Nördstrom (RS) wormholes (we assumed both charged RS wormhole and special case with the vanishing electromagnetic charge, namely Damour-Solodukhin (DS) wormhole). It was shown that the photon sphere for Schwarzschild-like wormhole presents for both thin and thick accretion disks and even for the vanishing tidal forces. Moreover, it was observed that $r_{\mathrm{ph}}\to\infty$ as $α\to\infty$, which constraints $α$ parameter to be sufficiently small and positive in order to respect the EHT observations. On the other hand, for the case of RS wormhole, photon sphere radius shrinks as $Λ\to\infty$, as it was predicted by the effective potential. In addition to the accretion disks, we as well probe the relativistic jets around two wormhole solutions of our consideration. Finally, with the help of star bulb microlensing, we approximate the radius of the wormhole shadow and as we found out, for Schild WH, $R_{\mathrm{Sh}}\approx r_0$ for ZTF and grows linearly with $α$. On the contrary, shadow radius for charged wormholes slowly decreases with the growing trend of DS parameter $Λ$.

Embedding procedure and wormhole solutions in $f(Q)$ gravity

An intriguing solution that appears in General Relativity (GR) but has not been observed so far is the wormhole. This exotic solution describes a topological bridge connecting two distinct universes or two different points in the same universe. It is known that the traversable wormhole solutions violate all the energy conditions in GR, resulting in their instability. In this work, we are going to unveil new wormhole solutions for $f(Q)$ gravity where $Q$ is the non-metricity scalar, which is responsible for the gravitational interaction. The energy conditions to constraint these wormhole solutions were derived using the embedding procedure. This procedure consists of rewriting the density and the pressures of the solutions as those presented by General Relativity. Then, the nontrivial contributions coming from new theories of gravity are embedded into the effective equations for density and pressures. Along with our approach, we carefully analyze two families of $f(Q)$ models and we used two different shape functions to build the wormholes solutions for each of these $f(Q)$ models. We are going to present new scenarios with the possibility of traversable wormholes satisfying SEC or DEC energy conditions in the presence of exotic matter.

Periodic cosmic evolution in $f(Q)$ gravity formalism

We study the periodic cosmic transit behavior of accelerated universe in the framework of symmetric teleparallelism. The exact solution of field equations is obtained by employing a well known deceleration parameter (DP) called periodic varying deceleration parameter (PVDP), $q = m cos kt-1$. The viability and physical reliability of the DP are studied by using the observational constraint. The dynamics of periodicity and singularity are addressed in details with respect to time and redshift parameter. Several ECs are discussed in this setting.

Static spherically symmetric wormholes in $f(Q,T)$ gravity

In this article we obtain wormhole solutions in the recently proposed extension of symmetric teleparallel gravity called $f(Q,T)$ gravity. Here, the gravitational Lagrangian $L$ is defined by an arbitrary function $f$ of $Q$ and $T$ (where $Q$ is the non-metricity scalar, while $T$ is the trace of the energy-momentum tensor). In this study, we obtain the field equations for a static spherically symmetric wormhole metric in the context of a general $f(Q,T)$ gravity. We study the wormhole solutions with (i) linear EoS and (ii) anisotropy relation. We adopt two different forms of $f(Q,T)$ (a) linear $f(Q,T)=αQ+βT$ and (b) non-linear $f(Q,T)=Q+λQ^2+ηT$ to investigate these solutions. We investigate the various energy conditions to look for preservation and violation among the solutions that we obtained. We find that NEC is violated in both cases of our assumed forms of $f(Q,T)$. Finally, we perform the stability analysis using Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkov (TOV) equation.

Generalized Chaplygin gas and accelerating universe in $f(Q,T)$ gravity

The generalized Chaplygin gas (GCG), which has an unusual perfect fluid equation of state, is another promising candidate for dark energy. We investigate the GCG scenario coupled with a baryonic matter in a newly suggested $f(Q,T)$ gravity, an arbitrary function of non-metricity $Q$ and the trace of energy-momentum tensor $T$. We consider the functional form of $f(Q, T)$ as a linear combination of $Q$ and an arbitrary function of $T$, denoted by $h(T)$. Furthermore, we obtain two different functional forms of the $f(Q,T)$ model under high pressure and high-density scenarios of GCG. We also test each model with the recent Pantheon supernovae data set of 1048 data points, Hubble data set of 31 points, and baryon acoustic oscillations. The deceleration parameter is constructed using $OHD+SNeIa+BAO$, predicting a transition from decelerated to accelerated phases of the universe expansion. Also, the equation of state parameter acquires a negative behavior depicting acceleration. Finally, we analyze the statefinder diagnostic to discriminate between the GCG and other dark energy models.

Traversable wormholes with charge and non-commutative geometry in the $f(Q)$ gravity

We consider modified symmetric teleparallel gravity (STG), in which gravitational Lagrangian is given by the arbitrary function of non-metricity scalar $Q$ to study static and spherically symmetric charged traversable wormhole solutions with non-commutative background geometry. The matter source at the wormhole throat is acknowledged to be anisotropic, and the redshift function has a constant value (thus, our wormhole solution is non-tidal). We study the obtained field equations with the two functional forms of $f(Q)$ STG models, such as linear $f(Q)=αQ+β$ and non-linear $f(Q)=Q+mQ^n$ models under Gaussian and Lorentzian distributions. Our analysis found the exact wormhole solutions for the linear STG model only. Also, for the non-linear model, we derived numerically suitable forms of wormhole shape functions directly from the modified Einstein Field Equations (EFEs). Besides, we probed these models via Null, Dominant, and Strong energy conditions with respect to free Modified gravity (MOG) parameters $α$, $β$, $m$, and $n$. We also used Tolman-Oppenheimer-Vokloff (TOV) equation to investigate the stability of wormhole anisotropic matter in considered MOG. Finally, we plot the equation of state.
