Transverse momentum dependent distribution functions in a covariant parton model approach with quark orbital motion

Transverse parton momentum dependent distribution functions (TMDs) of the nucleon are studied in a covariant model, which describes the intrinsic motion of partons in terms of a covariant momentum distribution. The consistency of the approach is demonstrated, and model relations among TMDs are studied. As a byproduct it is shown how the approach allows to formulate the non-relativistic limit.

Recent developments in nucleon spin structure with focus on h_{1L}^{\perp} and pretzelosity h_{1T}^\perp

The leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions h_{1L}^{\perp} and h_{1T}^\perp, which is sometimes called "pretzelosity," are studied. For h_{1L}^{\perp} we consider a "Wandzura-Wilczek-type" approximation, which follows from QCD equations of motion upon the neglect of pure twist-3 terms and allows to express it in terms of transversity. On the basis of available data from HERMES we test the practical usefulness of this approximation and discuss how it can be further tested by future CLAS and COMPASS data. We review the theoretical properties of retzelosity and observe an interesting relation valid in a large class of relativistic models: The difference between helicity and transversity distributions, which is often said to be a 'measure of relativistic effects' in the nucleon, is nothing but the transverse moment of pretzelosity. We discuss preliminary deuteron target data from COMPASS on the single spin asymmetry (SSA) in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS) related to pretzelosity, and make predictions for future experiments at JLab, COMPASS and HERMES.

TMDs and Azimuthal Spin Asymmetries in a Light-Cone Quark Model

The main properties of the leading-twist transverse momentum dependent parton distributions in a light-cone constituent quark model of the nucleon are reviewed, with focus on the role of the spin-spin and spin-orbit correlations of quarks. Results for azimuthal single spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering are also discussed.

Azimuthal spin asymmetries in light-cone constituent quark models

We present results for all leading-twist azimuthal spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive lepton-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering due to T-even transverse-momentum dependent parton distribution functions on the basis of a light-cone constituent quark model. Attention is paid to discuss the range of applicability of the model, especially with regard to the scale dependence of the observables and the transverse-momentum dependence of the distributions. We find good agreement with available experimental data and present predictions to be further tested by future CLAS, COMPASS and HERMES data.

The pretzelosity distribution function and intrinsic motion of the constituents in nucleon

The pretzelosity distribution function $h_{1T}^\perp$ is studied in a covariant the quark-parton model which describes the structure of the nucleon in terms of 3D quark intrinsic motion. This relativistic model framework supports the relation between helicity, transversity and pretzelosity observed in other relativistic models {\sl without} assuming SU(6) spin-flavor symmetry. Numerical results and predictions for SIDIS experiments are presented.

Pretzelosity distribution function

The 'pretzelosity' distribution is discussed. Theoretical properties, model results, and perspectives to access experimental information on this leading twist, transverse momentum dependent parton distribution function are reviewed. Its relation to helicity and transversity distributions is highlighted.

Pretzelosity distribution function h_1T^perp and the single spin asymmetry A_UT^sin(3phi-phi_S)

The leading twist transverse momentum dependent parton distribution function h_1T^perp, which is sometimes called ``pretzelosity,'' is studied. We review the theoretical properties of this function, and present bag model predictions. We observe an interesting relation valid in a large class of relativistic models: The difference between helicity and transversity distributions, which is often said to be a 'measure of relativistic effects' in nucleon, is nothing but the pretzelosity distribution. Pretzelosity is chirally odd and can be accessed in combination with the Collins effect in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, where it gives rise to an azimuthal single spin asymmetry proportional to sin(3phi-phi_S). We discuss the preliminary deuteron target data from COMPASS, on that observable and make predictions for future experiments on various targets at JLab, COMPASS and HERMES.

Sivers effect at Hermes, Compass and Clas12

Single spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering off transversely polarized targets give information on, among other fascinating effects, a pseudo time-reversal odd parton distribution function, the 'Sivers function'. In this proceeding we review the extractions of this function from HERMES and COMPASS data. In particular, the HERMES pion and kaon data suggest significant sea-quarks contributions at $x \simeq 0.15$ to the Sivers effect. We present a new fit that includes all relevant sea quark distributions and gives a statistically satisfactory overall description of the data, but does not describe ideally the $K^+$ data from HERMES. We argue that measurements of the pion- and kaon Sivers effect at CLAS12, and COMPASS, will clarify the situation.

Sivers and Collins Single Spin Asymmetries

The Sivers and Collins asymmetries are the most prominent Single Spin Asymmetries (SSA)in Semi-Inclusive Deeply Inelastic Scattering (SIDIS)with transverse target polarization. In this talk we present our understanding of these phenomena.

The twist-3 parton distribution function e(x) in large-Nc chiral theory

The chirally-odd twist-3 parton distribution function e(x) of the nucleon is studied in the large-Nc limit in the framework of the chiral quark-soliton model. It is demonstrated that in spite of properties not shared by other distribution functions, namely the appearance of a delta(x)-singularity and quadratic divergences in e(x), an equally reliable calculation is possible. Among the most remarkable results obtained in this work is the fact that the coefficient of the delta(x)-singularity can be computed exactly in this model, avoiding involved numerics. Our results complete existing studies in literature.

Are there approximate relations among transverse momentum dependent distribution functions?

Certain exact relations among transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions due to QCD equations of motion turn into approximate ones upon the neglect of pure twist-3 terms. On the basis of available data from HERMES we test the practical usefulness of one such ``Wandzura-Wilczek-type approximation'', namely of that connecting h_{1L}^{\perp(1)a}(x) to h_L^a(x), and discuss how it can be further tested by future CLAS and COMPASS data.

Collins effect in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering and in electron positron annihilation

The Collins fragmentation function is extracted from HERMES data on azimuthal single spin asymmetries in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering, and BELLE data on azimuthal asymmetries in electron positron annihilations. A Gaussian model is assumed for the distribution of transverse parton momenta and predictions are used from the chiral quark-soliton model for the transversity distribution function. We find that the HERMES and BELLE data yield a consistent picture of the Collins fragmentation function which is compatible with COMPASS data and the information previously obtained from an analysis of DELPHI data. Estimates for future experiments are made.
