Holographic RG flows and symplectic deformations of N=4 gauged supergravity

We study four-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity with $SO(4)\times SO(4)\sim SO(3)\times SO(3)\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group in the presence of symplectic deformations. There are in general four electric-magnetic phases corresponding to each $SO(3)$ factor, but two phases of the $SO(3)$ factors embedded in the $SO(6)$ R-symmetry are fixed. One phase can be set to zero by $SL(2,\mathbb{R})$ transformations. The second one gives equivalent theories for any non-vanishing values and can be set to $\fracπ{2}$ resulting in gauged supergravities that admit $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua. The remaining two phases are truely deformation parameters leading to different $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauged supergravities. As in the $ω$-deformed $SO(8)$ maximal gauged supergravity, the cosmological constant and scalar masses of the $AdS_4$ vacuum at the origin of the scalar manifold with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry do not depend on the electric-magnetic phases. We find $N=1$ holographic RG flow solutions between $N=4$ critical points with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ and $SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}\times SO(3)\times SO(3)$ or $SO(3)\times SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}\times SO(3)$ symmetries. We also give $N=2$ and $N=1$ RG flows from these critical points to various non-conformal phases. However, contrary to the $ω$-deformed $SO(8)$ gauged supergravity, there exist non-trivial supersymmetric $AdS_4$ critical points only for particular values of the deformation parameters within the scalar sectors under consideration.

New supersymmetric Janus solutions from N=4 gauged supergravity

We study $N=4$ gauged supergravity with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauge group in the presence of symplectic deformations and find new classes of Janus solutions preserving $N=1$ and $N=2$ supersymmetries. The $N=2$ solutions preserve $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry and interpolate between $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry. These correspond holographically to $N=(2,0)$ two-dimensional conformal defects within the dual $N=4$ CSM theories with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry. The $N=1$ solutions contain two families of Janus configurations, one interpolating between $N=4$ $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ symmetry and the other interpolating between $N=4$ $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(3)\times SO(3) \times SO(3)$ symmetry. These respectively describe $N=(1,0)$ conformal defects in $N=4$ CSM theories with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ and $SO(3)\times SO(3) \times SO(3)$ symmetries. The latter give the first example of Janus solutions involving non-trivial $AdS_4$ vacua in addition to the trivial $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ critical point at the origin of the scalar manifold within the framework of $N=4$ gauged supergravity.

Supersymmetric AdS4 black holes from matter-coupled N=3,4 gauged supergravities

We study supersymmetric $AdS_4$ black holes in matter-coupled $N=3$ and $N=4$ gauged supergravities in four dimensions. In $N=3$ theory, we consider $N=3$ gauged supergravity coupled to three vector multiplets and $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group. The resulting gauged supergravity admits two $N=3$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ and $SO(3)$ symmetries. We find an $AdS_2\times H^2$ solution with $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry and an analytic solution interpolating between this geometry and the $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ symmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum. For $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to six vector multiplets with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauge group, there exist four supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$, $SO(4)\times SO(3)$, $SO(3)\times SO(4)$ and $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ symmetries. We find a number of $AdS_2\times S^2$ and $AdS_2\times H^2$ geometries together with the solutions interpolating between these geometries and all, but the $SO(3)\times SO(3)$, $AdS_4$ vacua. These solutions provide a new class of $AdS_4$ black holes with spherical and hyperbolic horizons dual to holographic RG flows across dimensions from $N=3,4$ SCFTs in three dimensions to superconformal quantum mechanics within the framework of four-dimensional gauged supergravity.

Janus solutions from dyonic ISO(7) maximal gauged supergravity

We give a large class of new supersymmetric Janus solutions in dyonic $ISO(7)$ maximal gauged supergravity encompassing all known solutions appearing recently. We consider $SO(3)$ invariant sector in which the gauged supergravity admits four supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua with $N=1,1,2,3$ unbroken supersymmetries and $G_2$, $SU(3)$, $SU(3)\times U(1)$ and $SO(4)$ symmetries, respectively. We find Janus solutions preserving $N=1,2,3$ supersymmetries and interpolating between $AdS_4$ vacua and the $N=8$ SYM phase. These solutions can be interpreted as conformal interfaces between SYM and various conformal phases of the dual field theory in three dimensions. The solutions can also be embedded in massive type IIA theory by a consistent truncation on $S^6$. We also find a number of singular Janus solutions interpolating between $N=8$ SYM or $AdS_4$ vacua and singularities or between singular geometries. It turns out that, apart from the SYM phase on D2-branes, all the singularities arising in these solutions are unphysical in both four- and ten-dimensional frameworks.

Supersymmetric domain walls in maximal 6D gauged supergravity II

We continue the study of supersymmetric domain wall solutions in six-dimensional maximal gauged supergravity. We first give a classification of viable gauge groups with the embedding tensor in $\mathbf{5}^{+7}$, $\bar{\mathbf{5}}^{+3}$, $\mathbf{10}^{-1}$, $\mathbf{24}^{-5}$, and $\overline{\mathbf{45}}^{+3}$ representations of the off-shell symmetry $GL(5)\subset SO(5,5)$. We determine an explicit form of the embedding tensor for gauge groups arising from each representation together with some examples of possible combinations among them. All of the resulting gauge groups are of a non-semisimple type with abelian factors and translational groups of different dimensions. We find $\frac{1}{2}$- and $\frac{1}{4}$-supersymmetric domain walls with $SO(2)$ symmetry in $SO(2)\ltimes \mathbb{R}^8$ and $SO(2)\ltimes \mathbb{R}^6$ gauge groups from the embedding tensor in $\mathbf{24}^{-5}$ representation and in $CSO(2,0,2)\ltimes \mathbb{R}^4$, $CSO(2,0,2)\ltimes \mathbb{R}^2$, and $CSO(2,0,1)\ltimes \mathbb{R}^4$ gauge groups with the embedding tensor in $\overline{\mathbf{45}}^{+3}$ representations. These gauge groups are parametrized by a traceless matrix and electrically and magnetically embedded in $SO(5,5)$ global symmetry, respectively.

Supersymmetric domain walls in maximal 6D gauged supergravity I

We find a large class of supersymmetric domain wall solutions from six-dimensional $N=(2,2)$ gauged supergravity with various gauge groups. In general, the embedding tensor lives in $\mathbf{144}_c$ representation of the global symmetry $SO(5,5)$. We explicitly construct the embedding tensors in $\mathbf{15}^{-1}$ and $\overline{\mathbf{40}}^{-1}$ representations of $GL(5)\sim \mathbb{R}^+\times SL(5)\subset SO(5,5)$ leading to $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ and $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)\ltimes\mathbb{R}^4_{\boldsymbol{s}}$ gauge groups, respectively. These gaugings can be obtained from $S^1$ reductions of seven-dimensional gauged supergravity with $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ and $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge groups. As in seven dimensions, we find half-supersymmetric domain walls for purely magnetic or purely electric gaugings with the embedding tensors in $\mathbf{15}^{-1}$ or $\overline{\mathbf{40}}^{-1}$ representations, respectively. In addition, for dyonic gauge groups with the embedding tensors in both $\mathbf{15}^{-1}$ and $\overline{\mathbf{40}}^{-1}$ representations, the domain walls turn out to be $\frac{1}{4}$-supersymmetric as in the seven-dimensional analogue. By the DW/QFT duality, these solutions are dual to maximal and half-maximal super Yang-Mills theories in five dimensions. All of the solutions can be uplifted to seven dimensions and further embedded in type IIB or M-theories by the well-known consistent truncation of the seven-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity.

Supersymmetric solutions from N=6 gauged supergravity

We study supersymmetric solutions in four-dimensional $N=6$ gauged supergravity with $SO(6)$ gauge group. There is a unique $N=6$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum with $SO(6)$ symmetry dual to an $N=6$ SCFT in three dimensions. We find a number of domain walls interpolating between this $AdS_4$ vacuum and singular geometries in the IR with $SO(2)\times SO(4)$, $U(3)$, $SO(3)$ and $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetries. The $SO(3)$ case admits $N=6$ or $N=2$ solutions depending on whether the pseudoscalars are present or not. On the other hand, all the remaining solutions preserve $N=6$ supersymmetry. These solutions describe RG flows from the $N=6$ SCFT to non-conformal field theories driven by mass deformations. In particular, the $SO(2)\times SO(4)$ solution is in agreement with the previously known mass deformations of the dual $N=6$ SCFT. We also give a supersymmetric Janus solution with $SO(2)\times SO(4)$ symmetry, describing two-dimensional conformal defects in the $N=6$ SCFT with unbroken $N=(4,2)$ supersymmetry. Finally, we find an $N=2$ supersymmetric $AdS_2\times H^2$ solution with $SO(2)\times SO(4)$ symmetry and the corresponding domain wall interpolating between this fixed point and the $AdS_4$ vacuum. The solution describes an $AdS_4$ black hole with a magnetic charge and is dual to a twisted compactification of the $N=6$ SCFT on a hyperbolic space $H^2$. We also give a domain wall interpolating between a locally supersymmetric $AdS_4$ and a curved domain wall with $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry dual to an RG flow across dimensions from the $N=6$ SCFT to a supersymmetric quantum mechanics.

Holographic RG flows and Janus solutions from matter-coupled N=4 gauged supergravity

We study an $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(2)$ truncation of four-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to six vector multiplets with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ gauge group and find a new class of holographic RG flows and supersymmetric Janus solutions. In this truncation, there is a unique $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum dual to an $N=4$ SCFT in three dimensions. In the presence of the axion, the RG flows generally preserve $N=2$ supersymmetry while the supersymmetry is enhanced to $N=4$ for vanishing axion. We find solutions interpolating between the $AdS_4$ vacuum and singular geometries with different residual symmetries. We also show that all the singularities are physically acceptable within the framework of four-dimensional gauged supergravity. Accordingly, the solutions are holographically dual to RG flows from the $N=4$ SCFT to a number of non-conformal phases in the IR. We also find $N=4$ and $N=2$ Janus solutions with $SO(4)\times SO(4)$ and $SO(2)\times SO(2)\times SO(3)\times SO(2)$ symmetries, respectively. The former is obtained from a truncation of all scalars from vector multiplets and can be regarded as a solution of pure $N=4$ gauged supergravity. On the other hand, the latter is a genuine solution of the full matter-coupled theory. These solutions describe conformal interfaces in the $N=4$ SCFT with $N=(4,0)$ and $N=(2,0)$ supersymmetries.

Supersymmetric Janus solutions in $ω$-deformed N=8 gauged supergravity

We give a large class of supersymmetric Janus solutions in $ω$-deformed (dyonic) $SO(8)$ maximal gauged supergravity with $ω=\fracπ{8}$. Unlike the purely electric counterpart, the dyonic $SO(8)$ gauged supergravity exhibits a richer structure of $AdS_4$ vacua with $N=8,2,1,1$ supersymmetries and $SO(8)$, $U(3)$, $G_2$ and $SU(3)$ symmetries, respectively. Similarly, domain walls interpolating among these critical points show a very rich structure as well. In this paper, we show that this gauged supergravity also accommodates a number of interesting supersymmetric Janus solutions in the form of $AdS_3$-sliced domain walls asymptotically interpolating between the aforementioned $AdS_4$ geometries. These solutions could be holographically interpreted as two-dimensional conformal defects within the superconformal field theories (SCFTs) of ABJM type dual to the $AdS_4$ vacua. We also give a class of solutions interpolating among the $SO(8)$, $G_2$ and $U(3)$ $AdS_4$ vacua in the case of $ω=0$ which have not previously appeared in the presently known Janus solutions of electric $SO(8)$ gauged supergravity.

Supersymmetric solutions from N=5 gauged supergravity

We study a large class of supersymmetric solutions in four-dimensional $N=5$ gauged supergravity with $SO(5)$ gauge group. There is only one $N=5$ supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacuum preserving the full $SO(5)$ symmetry dual to an $N=5$ SCFT in three dimensions. We give a number of domain walls interpolating between this $AdS_4$ fixed point and singular geometries in the IR with $SO(4)$ and $SO(3)$ symmetries. These solutions describe RG flows from the $N=5$ SCFT to non-conformal field theories driven by mass deformations. The $SO(4)$ solutions are precisely in agreement with the previously known mass deformations within the dual $N=5$ SCFT. We also find supersymmetric Janus solutions describing two-dimensional conformal defects in the $N=5$ SCFT with $N=(4,1)$ and $N=(1,1)$ supersymmetries on the defects. Finally, we study supersymmetric solutions of the form $AdS_2\times Σ^2$, with $Σ^2=S^2,H^2$ being a Riemann surface, corresponding to near horizon geometries of $AdS_4$ black holes. We consider both magnetic and dyonic solutions and find that there exists a class of magnetic $AdS_2\times H^2$ solutions with $SO(2)$ symmetry. It is rather remarkable that a complete analytic solution interpolating between $AdS_4$ and $AdS_2\times H^2$ with a running scalar can be obtained. The solution corresponds to a twisted compactification of $N=5$ SCFT to superconformal quantum mechanics. We also show that no purely magnetic or dyonic black holes with $AdS_2\times Σ^2$ horizon from $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ twist exist in $N=5$, $SO(5)$ gauged supergravity.

Supersymmetric solutions of 7D maximal gauged supergravity

We study a number of supersymmetric solutions in the form of $Mkw_3\times S^3$- and $AdS_3\times S^3$-sliced domain walls in the maximal gauged supergravity in seven dimensions. These solutions require non-vanishing three-form fluxes to support the $AdS_3$ and $S^3$ subspaces. We consider solutions with $SO(4)$, $SO(3)$, $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ and $SO(2)$ symmetries in $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$, $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ and $SO(2,1)\ltimes \mathbf{R}^4$ gauge groups. All of these solutions can be analytically obtained. For $SO(5)$ and $CSO(4,0,1)$ gauge groups, the complete truncation ansatze in terms of eleven-dimensional supergravity on $S^4$ and type IIA theory on $S^3$ are known. We give the full uplifted solutions to eleven and ten dimensions in this case. The solutions with an $AdS_3\times S^3$ slice are interpreted as two-dimensional surface defects in six-dimensional $N=(2,0)$ superconformal field theory in the case of $SO(5)$ gauge group or $N=(2,0)$ nonconformal field theories for other gauge groups. For $SO(4)$ symmetric solutions, it is possible to find solutions with both the three-form fluxes and $SO(3)$ gauge fields turned on. However, in this case, the solutions can be found only numerically. For $SO(3)$ symmetric solutions, the three-form fluxes and $SO(3)$ gauge fields cannot be non-vanishing simultaneously.

Twisted compactifications of 6D field theories from maximal 7D gauged supergravity

We study supersymmetric $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$, $n=2,3,4,5$ solutions in seven-dimensional maximal gauged supergravity with $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ and $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge groups. These gauged supergravities are consistent truncations of eleven-dimensional supergravity and type IIB theory on $H^{p,q}\circ T^{5-p-q}$ and $H^{p,q}\circ T^{4-p-q}$, respectively. Apart from recovering the previously known $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$ solutions in $SO(5)$ gauge group, we find novel classes of $AdS_5\times S^2$, $AdS_3\times S^2\times Σ^2$ and $AdS_3\times CP^2$ solutions in non-compact $SO(3,2)$ gauge group together with a class of $AdS_3\times CP^2$ solutions in $SO(4,1)$ gauge group. In $SO(5)$ gauge group, we extensively study holographic RG flow solutions interpolating from the $SO(5)$ supersymmetric $AdS_7$ vacuum to the $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$ fixed points and singular geometries in the form of curved domain walls with $Mkw_{n-1}\times Σ^{7-n}$ slices. In many cases, the singularities are physically acceptable and can be interpreted as non-conformal phases of $(n-1)$-dimensional SCFTs obtained from twisted compactifications of $N=(2,0)$ SCFT in six dimensions. In $SO(3,2)$ and $SO(4,1)$ gauge groups, we give a large number of RG flows between the new $AdS_n\times Σ^{7-n}$ fixed points and curved domain walls while, in $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge group, RG flows interpolating between asymptotically locally flat domain walls and curved domain walls are given.

$dS_5$ vacua from matter-coupled 5D N=4 gauged supergravity

We study $dS_5$ vacua within matter-coupled $N=4$ gauged supergravity in five dimensions using the embedding tensor formalism. With a simple ansatz for solving the extremization and positivity of the scalar potential, we derive a set of conditions for the gauged supergravity to admit $dS_5$ as maximally symmetric background solutions. The results provide a new approach for finding $dS_5$ vacua in five-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity and explain a number of notable features pointed out in previous works. These conditions also determine the form of the gauge groups to be $SO(1,1)\times G_{\textrm{nc}}$ with $G_{\textrm{nc}}$ being a non-abelian non-compact group. In general, $G_{\textrm{nc}}$ can be a product of $SO(1,2)$ and a smaller non-compact group $G'_{\textrm{nc}}$ together with (possibly) a compact group. The $SO(1,1)$ factor is gauged by one of the six graviphotons, that is singlet under $SO(5)\sim USp(4)$ R-symmetry. The compact parts of $SO(1,2)$ and $G'_{\textrm{nc}}$ are gauged by vector fields from the gravity and vector multiplets, respectively. In addition, we explicitly study $dS_5$ vacua for a number of gauge groups and compute scalar masses at the vacua. As in the four-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity, all the $dS_5$ vacua identified here are unstable.

$dS_4$ vacua from matter-coupled 4D N=4 gauged supergravity

We study $dS_4$ vacua within matter-coupled $N=4$ gauged supergravity in the embedding tensor formalism. We derive a set of conditions for the existence of $dS_4$ solutions by using a simple ansatz for solving the extremization and positivity of the scalar potential. We find two classes of gauge groups that lead to $dS_4$ vacua. One of them consists of gauge groups of the form $G_{\textrm{e}}\times G_{\textrm{m}}\times H$ with $H$ being a compact group and $G_{\textrm{e}}\times G_{\textrm{m}}$ a non-compact group with $SO(3)\times SO(3)$ subgroup and dynonically gauged. These gauge groups are the same as those giving rise to maximally supersymmetric $AdS_4$ vacua. The $dS_4$ and $AdS_4$ vacua arise from different coupling ratios between $G_{\textrm{e}}$ and $G_{\textrm{m}}$ factors. Another class of gauge groups is given by $SO(2,1)_{\textrm{e}}\times SO(2,1)_{\textrm{m}}\times G_{\textrm{nc}}\times G'_{\textrm{nc}}\times H$ with $SO(2,1)$, $G_{\textrm{nc}}$ and $G'_{\textrm{nc}}$ dyonically gauged. We explicitly check that all known $dS_4$ vacua in $N=4$ gauged supergravity satisfy the aforementioned conditions, hence the two classes of gauge groups can accommodate all the previous results on $dS_4$ vacua in a simple framework. Accordingly, the results provide a new approach for finding $dS_4$ vacua. In addition, relations between the embedding tensors for gauge groups admitting $dS_4$ and $dS_5$ vacua are studied, and a new gauge group, $SO(2,1)\times SO(4,1)$, with a $dS_4$ vacuum is found by applying these relations to $SO(1,1)\times SO(4,1)$ gauge group in five dimensions.

Supersymmetric domain walls in 7D maximal gauged supergravity

We give a large class of supersymmetric domain walls in maximal seven-dimensional gauged supergravity with various types of gauge groups. Gaugings are described by components of the embedding tensor transforming in representations $\mathbf{15}$ and $\overline{\mathbf{40}}$ of the global symmetry $SL(5)$. The embedding tensor in $\mathbf{15}$ representation leads to $CSO(p,q,5-p-q)$ gauge groups while gaugings in $\overline{\mathbf{40}}$ representation describes $CSO(p,q,4-p-q)$ gauge groups. These gaugings admit half-supersymmetric domain walls as vacuum solutions. On the other hand, gaugings involving both $\mathbf{15}$ and $\overline{\mathbf{40}}$ components lead to $\frac{1}{4}$-supersymmetric domain walls. In this case, the gauge groups under consideration are $SO(2,1)\ltimes \mathbf{R}^4$ and $CSO(2,0,2)\sim SO(2)\ltimes \mathbf{R}^4$. All of the domain wall solutions are analytically obtained. For $SO(5)$ gauge group, the gauged supergravity admits an $N=4$ supersymmetric $AdS_7$ vacuum dual to $N=(2,0)$ SCFT in six dimensions. The corresponding domain walls can be interpreted as holographic RG flows from the $N=(2,0)$ SCFT to non-conformal $N=(2,0)$ field theories in the IR. The solutions can be uplifted to eleven dimensions by using a truncation ansatz on $S^4$. Furthermore, the gauged supergravity with $CSO(4,0,1)\sim SO(4)\ltimes \mathbf{R}^4$ gauge group can be embedded in type IIA theory via a truncation on $S^3$. The uplifted domain walls, describing NS5-branes of type IIA theory, are also given.

Two-dimensional SCFTs from matter-coupled 7D N=2 gauged supergravity

We study supersymmetric $AdS_3\times M^4$ solutions of $N=2$ gauged supergravity in seven dimensions coupled to three vector multiplets with $SO(4)\sim SO(3)\times SO(3)$ gauge group and $M^4$ being a four-manifold with constant curvature. The gauged supergravity admits two supersymmetric $AdS_7$ critical points with $SO(4)$ and $SO(3)$ symmetries corresponding to $N=(1,0)$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) in six dimensions. For $M^4=Σ^2\timesΣ^2$ with $Σ^2$ being a Riemann surface, we obtain a large class of supersymmetric $AdS_3\times Σ^2\times Σ^2$ solutions preserving four supercharges and $SO(2)\times SO(2)$ symmetry for one of the $Σ^2$ being a hyperbolic space $H^2$, and the solutions are dual to $N=(2,0)$ SCFTs in two dimensions. For a smaller symmetry $SO(2)$, only $AdS_3\times H^2\times H^2$ solutions exist. Some of these are also solutions of pure $N=2$ gauged supergravity with $SU(2)\sim SO(3)$ gauge group. We numerically study domain walls interpolating between the two supersymmetric $AdS_7$ vacua and these geometries. The solutions describe holographic RG flows across dimensions from $N=(1,0)$ SCFTs in six dimensions to $N=(2,0)$ two-dimensional SCFTs in the IR. Similar solutions for $M^4$ being a Kahler four-cycle with negative curvature are also given. In addition, unlike $M^4=Σ^2\times Σ^2$ case, it is possible to twist by $SO(3)_{\textrm{diag}}$ gauge fields resulting in two-dimensional $N=(1,0)$ SCFTs. Some of the solutions can be uplifted to eleven dimensions and provide a new class of $AdS_3\times M^4\times S^4$ solutions in M-theory.

Supersymmetric $AdS_5$ black holes and strings from 5D $N=4$ gauged supergravity

We study supersymmetric $AdS_3\times Σ_2$ and $AdS_2\times Σ_3$ solutions, with $Σ_2=S^2,H^2$ and $Σ_3=S^3,H^3$, in five-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to five vector multiplets. The gauge groups considered here are $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$, $U(1)\times SO(3,1)$ and $U(1)\times SL(3,\mathbb{R})$. For $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ gauge group admiting two supersymmetric $N=4$ $AdS_5$ vacua, we identify a new class of $AdS_3\times Σ_2$ and $AdS_2\times H^3$ solutions preserving four supercharges. Holographic RG flows describing twisted compactifications of $N=2$ four-dimensional SCFTs dual to the $AdS_5$ vacua to the SCFTs in two and one dimensions dual to these geometries are numerically given. The solutions can also be interpreted as supersymmetric black strings and black holes in asymptotically $AdS_5$ spaces with near horizon geometries given by $AdS_3\times Σ_2$ and $AdS_2\times H^3$, respectively. These solutions broaden previously known black brane solutions including half-supersymmetric $AdS_5$ black strings recently found in $N=4$ gauged supergravity. Similar solutions are also studied in non-compact gauge groups $U(1)\times SO(3,1)$ and $U(1)\times SL(3,\mathbb{R})$.

Holographic RG flows and $AdS_5$ black strings from 5D half-maximal gauged supergravity

We study five-dimensional $N=4$ gauged supergravity coupled to five vector multiplets with compact and non-compact gauge groups $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ and $U(1)\times SO(3,1)$. For $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ gauge group, we identify $N=4$ $AdS_5$ vacua with $U(1)\times SU(2)\times SU(2)$ and $U(1)\times SU(2)_{\textrm{diag}}$ symmetries and analytically construct the corresponding holographic RG flow interpolating between these critical points. The flow describes a deformation of the dual $N=2$ SCFT driven by vacuum expaction values of dimension-two operators. In addition, we study $AdS_3\times Σ_2$ geometries, for $Σ_2$ being a two-sphere $S^2$ or a two-dimensional hyperbolic space $H^2$, dual to twisted compactifications of $N=2$ SCFTs with flavor symmetry $SU(2)$. We find a number of $AdS_3\times H^2$ solutions preserving eight supercharges for different twists from $U(1)\times U(1)\times U(1)$ and $U(1)\times U(1)_{\textrm{diag}}$ gauge fields. We numerically construct various RG flow solutions interpolating between $N=4$ $AdS_5$ ciritcal points and these $AdS_3\times H^2$ geometries in the IR. The solutions can also be interpreted as supersymmetric black strings in asymptotically $AdS_5$ space. These types of holographic solutions are also studied in non-compact $U(1)\times SO(3,1)$ gauge group. In this case, only one $N=4$ $AdS_5$ vacuum exists, and we give an RG flow solution from this $AdS_5$ to a singular geometry in the IR corresponding to an $N=2$ non-conformal field theory. An $AdS_3\times H^2$ solution together with an RG flow between this vacuum and the $N=4$ $AdS_5$ are also given.
