Comparison of two constructions of noncommutative surfaces with exceptional collections of length 4

Recently the Euler forms on numerical Grothendieck groups of rank 4 whose properties mimick that of the Euler form of a smooth projective surface have been classified. This classification depends on a natural number $m$, and suggests the existence of noncommutative surfaces which up to that point had not been considered for $m\geq 2$. These have been constructed for $m=2$ using noncommutative $\mathbb{P}^1$-bundles, and for all $m\geq 2$ by a different construction using maximal orders on $\mathrm{Bl}_x\mathbb{P}^2$. In this article we compare the constructions for $m=2$, i.e. we compare the categories arising from half-ruled del Pezzo quaternion orders on $\mathbb{F}_1$ with noncommutative $\mathbb{P}^1$-bundles on $\mathbb{P}^1$. This can be seen as a noncommutative instance of the classical isomorphism $\mathbb{F}_1\cong\mathrm{Bl}_x\mathbb{P}^2$.

Derived categories of noncommutative quadrics and Hilbert squares

A noncommutative deformation of a quadric surface is usually described by a three-dimensional cubic Artin-Schelter regular algebra. In this paper we show that for such an algebra its bounded derived category embeds into the bounded derived category of a commutative deformation of the Hilbert scheme of two points on the quadric. This is the second example in support of a conjecture by Orlov. Based on this example, we formulate an infinitesimal version of the conjecture, and provide some evidence in the case of smooth projective surfaces.

Admissible subcategories in derived categories of moduli of vector bundles on curves

We show that the Poincaré bundle gives a fully faithful embedding from the derived category of a curve of sufficiently high genus into the derived category of its moduli space of bundles of rank $r$ with fixed determinant of degree 1. Moreover we show that a twist of the embedding, together with 2 exceptional line bundles, gives the start of a semi-orthogonal decomposition. This generalises results of Narasimhan and Fonarev-Kuznetsov, who embedded the derived category of a single copy of the curve, for rank 2.

Examples violating Golyshev's canonical strip hypotheses

We give the first examples of smooth Fano and Calabi-Yau varieties violating the (narrow) canonical strip hypothesis, which concerns the location of the roots of Hilbert polynomials of polarised varieties. They are given by moduli spaces of rank 2 bundles with fixed odd-degree determinant on curves of sufficiently high genus, hence our Fano examples have Picard rank 1, index 2, are rational, and have moduli. The hypotheses also fail for several other closely related varieties.

Embeddings of algebras in derived categories of surfaces

By a result of Orlov there always exists an embedding of the derived category of a finite-dimensional algebra of finite global dimension into the derived category of a high-dimensional smooth projective variety. In this article we give some restrictions on those algebras whose derived categories can be embedded into the bounded derived category of a smooth projective surface. This is then applied to obtain explicit results for hereditary algebras.

The point variety of quantum polynomial rings

We show that the reduced point variety of a quantum polynomial algebra is the union of specific linear subspaces in $\mathbb{P}^n$, we describe its irreducible components and give a combinatorial description of the possible configurations in small dimensions.
