Memory Analysis on the Training Course of DeepSeek Models

We present a theoretical analysis of GPU memory consumption during the training of DeepSeek models such as DeepSeek-v2 and DeepSeek-v3. Our primary objective is to clarify the device-level memory requirements associated with various distributed training configurations. Specifically, we examine critical factors influencing memory usage, including micro-batch size, activation recomputation policies, 3D parallelism, and ZeRO optimizations. It is important to emphasize that the training policies discussed in this report are not representative of DeepSeek's official configurations. Instead, they are explored to provide a deeper understanding of memory dynamics in training of large-scale mixture-of-experts model.

WatchGuardian: Enabling User-Defined Personalized Just-in-Time Intervention on Smartwatch

While just-in-time interventions (JITIs) have effectively targeted common health behaviors, individuals often have unique needs to intervene in personal undesirable actions that can negatively affect physical, mental, and social well-being. We present WatchGuardian, a smartwatch-based JITI system that empowers users to define custom interventions for these personal actions with a small number of samples. For the model to detect new actions based on limited new data samples, we developed a few-shot learning pipeline that finetuned a pre-trained inertial measurement unit (IMU) model on public hand-gesture datasets. We then designed a data augmentation and synthesis process to train additional classification layers for customization. Our offline evaluation with 26 participants showed that with three, five, and ten examples, our approach achieved an average accuracy of 76.8%, 84.7%, and 87.7%, and an F1 score of 74.8%, 84.2%, and 87.2% We then conducted a four-hour intervention study to compare WatchGuardian against a rule-based intervention. Our results demonstrated that our system led to a significant reduction by 64.0 +- 22.6% in undesirable actions, substantially outperforming the baseline by 29.0%. Our findings underscore the effectiveness of a customizable, AI-driven JITI system for individuals in need of behavioral intervention in personal undesirable actions. We envision that our work can inspire broader applications of user-defined personalized intervention with advanced AI solutions.

Baichuan-Omni-1.5 Technical Report

We introduce Baichuan-Omni-1.5, an omni-modal model that not only has omni-modal understanding capabilities but also provides end-to-end audio generation capabilities. To achieve fluent and high-quality interaction across modalities without compromising the capabilities of any modality, we prioritized optimizing three key aspects. First, we establish a comprehensive data cleaning and synthesis pipeline for multimodal data, obtaining about 500B high-quality data (text, audio, and vision). Second, an audio-tokenizer (Baichuan-Audio-Tokenizer) has been designed to capture both semantic and acoustic information from audio, enabling seamless integration and enhanced compatibility with MLLM. Lastly, we designed a multi-stage training strategy that progressively integrates multimodal alignment and multitask fine-tuning, ensuring effective synergy across all modalities. Baichuan-Omni-1.5 leads contemporary models (including GPT4o-mini and MiniCPM-o 2.6) in terms of comprehensive omni-modal capabilities. Notably, it achieves results comparable to leading models such as Qwen2-VL-72B across various multimodal medical benchmarks.

DiffCom: Channel Received Signal is a Natural Condition to Guide Diffusion Posterior Sampling

End-to-end visual communication systems typically optimize a trade-off between channel bandwidth costs and signal-level distortion metrics. However, under challenging physical conditions, this traditional coding and transmission paradigm often results in unrealistic reconstructions with perceptible blurring and aliasing artifacts, despite the inclusion of perceptual or adversarial losses for optimizing. This issue primarily stems from the receiver's limited knowledge about the underlying data manifold and the use of deterministic decoding mechanisms. To address these limitations, this paper introduces DiffCom, a novel end-to-end generative communication paradigm that utilizes off-the-shelf generative priors and probabilistic diffusion models for decoding, thereby improving perceptual quality without heavily relying on bandwidth costs and received signal quality. Unlike traditional systems that rely on deterministic decoders optimized solely for distortion metrics, our DiffCom leverages raw channel-received signal as a fine-grained condition to guide stochastic posterior sampling. Our approach ensures that reconstructions remain on the manifold of real data with a novel confirming constraint, enhancing the robustness and reliability of the generated outcomes. Furthermore, DiffCom incorporates a blind posterior sampling technique to address scenarios with unknown forward transmission characteristics. Extensive experimental validations demonstrate that DiffCom not only produces realistic reconstructions with details faithful to the original data but also achieves superior robustness against diverse wireless transmission degradations. Collectively, these advancements establish DiffCom as a new benchmark in designing generative communication systems that offer enhanced robustness and generalization superiorities.

Linear enhanced dissipation for the 2D Taylor-Couette flow in the exterior region: A supplementary example for Gearhart-Prüss type lemma

From the perspective of asymptotic stability at high Reynolds numbers, Taylor-Couette flow, as a typical rotating shear flow, exhibits rich decay behaviors. Previously, for the extensively studied Couette flow or the Taylor-Couette flow in bounded annular domains, methods based on resolvent estimates could derive exponential decay asymptotic for the solutions of the linearized system. However, unlike the Couette flow or the Taylor-Couette flow in bounded annular domains, the Taylor-Couette flow in exterior regions exhibits degeneration of derivatives of any order at infinity. In this paper, we present in Theorem 1.1 that the linearized system of the 2D Taylor-Couette flow in the exterior region exhibits space-time coupled polynomial decay asymptotics. We also prove that the solution to this system, when it contains inhomogeneous terms, cannot be expected to exhibit space-time coupled exponential decay, as detailed in Theorem 1.2. The result of Theorem 1.2 indicates that, even if we can obtain sharp resolvent estimates in different weighted spaces, the Gearhart-Prüss type lemma no longer applies. This suggests that resolvent estimates may not be very effective for handling degenerate shear flows. Furthermore, Theorem 1.2 also implies that, for the transition threshold problem of the 2D Taylor-Couette flow in exterior regions, we can at most expect the solution to exhibit long-time behavior with space-time coupled polynomial decay. Finally, we present a generalization of Theorem 1.2, as detailed in Theorem 1.3.

SoundSpring: Loss-Resilient Audio Transceiver with Dual-Functional Masked Language Modeling

In this paper, we propose "SoundSpring", a cutting-edge error-resilient audio transceiver that marries the robustness benefits of joint source-channel coding (JSCC) while also being compatible with current digital communication systems. Unlike recent deep JSCC transceivers, which learn to directly map audio signals to analog channel-input symbols via neural networks, our SoundSpring adopts the layered architecture that delineates audio compression from digital coded transmission, but it sufficiently exploits the impressive in-context predictive capabilities of large language (foundation) models. Integrated with the casual-order mask learning strategy, our single model operates on the latent feature domain and serve dual-functionalities: as efficient audio compressors at the transmitter and as effective mechanisms for packet loss concealment at the receiver. By jointly optimizing towards both audio compression efficiency and transmission error resiliency, we show that mask-learned language models are indeed powerful contextual predictors, and our dual-functional compression and concealment framework offers fresh perspectives on the application of foundation language models in audio communication. Through extensive experimental evaluations, we establish that SoundSpring apparently outperforms contemporary audio transmission systems in terms of signal fidelity metrics and perceptual quality scores. These new findings not only advocate for the practical deployment of SoundSpring in learning-based audio communication systems but also inspire the development of future audio semantic transceivers.

SepsisCalc: Integrating Clinical Calculators into Early Sepsis Prediction via Dynamic Temporal Graph Construction

Sepsis is an organ dysfunction caused by a deregulated immune response to an infection. Early sepsis prediction and identification allow for timely intervention, leading to improved clinical outcomes. Clinical calculators (e.g., the six-organ dysfunction assessment of SOFA) play a vital role in sepsis identification within clinicians' workflow, providing evidence-based risk assessments essential for sepsis diagnosis. However, artificial intelligence (AI) sepsis prediction models typically generate a single sepsis risk score without incorporating clinical calculators for assessing organ dysfunctions, making the models less convincing and transparent to clinicians. To bridge the gap, we propose to mimic clinicians' workflow with a novel framework SepsisCalc to integrate clinical calculators into the predictive model, yielding a clinically transparent and precise model for utilization in clinical settings. Practically, clinical calculators usually combine information from multiple component variables in Electronic Health Records (EHR), and might not be applicable when the variables are (partially) missing. We mitigate this issue by representing EHRs as temporal graphs and integrating a learning module to dynamically add the accurately estimated calculator to the graphs. Experimental results on real-world datasets show that the proposed model outperforms state-of-the-art methods on sepsis prediction tasks. Moreover, we developed a system to identify organ dysfunctions and potential sepsis risks, providing a human-AI interaction tool for deployment, which can help clinicians understand the prediction outputs and prepare timely interventions for the corresponding dysfunctions, paving the way for actionable clinical decision-making support for early intervention.

A Deep Subgrouping Framework for Precision Drug Repurposing via Emulating Clinical Trials on Real-world Patient Data

Drug repurposing identifies new therapeutic uses for existing drugs, reducing the time and costs compared to traditional de novo drug discovery. Most existing drug repurposing studies using real-world patient data often treat the entire population as homogeneous, ignoring the heterogeneity of treatment responses across patient subgroups. This approach may overlook promising drugs that benefit specific subgroups but lack notable treatment effects across the entire population, potentially limiting the number of repurposable candidates identified. To address this, we introduce STEDR, a novel drug repurposing framework that integrates subgroup analysis with treatment effect estimation. Our approach first identifies repurposing candidates by emulating multiple clinical trials on real-world patient data and then characterizes patient subgroups by learning subgroup-specific treatment effects. We deploy \model to Alzheimer's Disease (AD), a condition with few approved drugs and known heterogeneity in treatment responses. We emulate trials for over one thousand medications on a large-scale real-world database covering over 8 million patients, identifying 14 drug candidates with beneficial effects to AD in characterized subgroups. Experiments demonstrate STEDR's superior capability in identifying repurposing candidates compared to existing approaches. Additionally, our method can characterize clinically relevant patient subgroups associated with important AD-related risk factors, paving the way for precision drug repurposing.

Integrated Sensing and Communication Enabled Cooperative Passive Sensing Using Mobile Communication System

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) is a potential technology of the sixth-generation (6G) mobile communication system, which enables communication base station (BS) with sensing capability. However, the performance of single-BS sensing is limited, which can be overcome by multi-BS cooperative sensing. There are three types of multi-BS cooperative sensing, including cooperative active sensing, cooperative passive sensing, and cooperative active and passive sensing, where the multi-BS cooperative passive sensing has the advantages of low hardware modification cost and large sensing coverage. However, multi-BS cooperative passive sensing faces the challenges of synchronization offsets mitigation and sensing information fusion. To address these challenges, a non-line of sight (NLoS) and line of sight (LoS) signal cross-correlation (NLCC) method is proposed to mitigate carrier frequency offset (CFO) and time offset (TO). Besides, a symbol-level multi-BS sensing information fusion method is proposed. The discrete samplings of echo signals from multiple BSs are matched independently and coherent accumulated to improve sensing accuracy. Moreover, a lowcomplexity joint angle-of-arrival (AoA) and angle-of-departure (AoD) estimation method is proposed to reduce the computational complexity. Simulation results show that symbol-level multi-BS cooperative passive sensing scheme has an order of magnitude higher sensing accuracy than single-BS passive sensing. This work provides a reference for the research on multi-BS cooperative passive sensing.

Amplifier-Enhanced Memristive Massive MIMO Linear Detector Circuit: An Ultra-Energy-Efficient and Robust-to-Conductance-Error Design

The emerging analog matrix computing technology based on memristive crossbar array (MCA) constitutes a revolutionary new computational paradigm applicable to a wide range of domains. Despite the proven applicability of MCA for massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) detection, existing schemes do not take into account the unique characteristics of massive MIMO channel matrix. This oversight makes their computational accuracy highly sensitive to conductance errors of memristive devices, which is unacceptable for massive MIMO receivers. In this paper, we propose an MCA-based circuit design for massive MIMO zero forcing and minimum mean-square error detectors. Unlike the existing MCA-based detectors, we decompose the channel matrix into the product of small-scale and large-scale fading coefficient matrices, thus employing an MCA-based matrix computing module and amplifier circuits to process the two matrices separately. We present two conductance mapping schemes which are crucial but have been overlooked in all prior studies on MCA-based detector circuits. The proposed detector circuit exhibits significantly superior performance to the conventional MCA-based detector circuit, while only incurring negligible additional power consumption. Our proposed detector circuit maintains its advantage in energy efficiency over traditional digital approach by tens to hundreds of times.

In-Memory Massive MIMO Linear Detector Circuit with Extremely High Energy Efficiency and Strong Memristive Conductance Deviation Robustness

The memristive crossbar array (MCA) has been successfully applied to accelerate matrix computations of signal detection in massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. However, the unique property of massive MIMO channel matrix makes the detection performance of existing MCA-based detectors sensitive to conductance deviations of memristive devices, and the conductance deviations are difficult to be avoided. In this paper, we propose an MCA-based detector circuit, which is robust to conductance deviations, to compute massive MIMO zero forcing and minimum mean-square error algorithms. The proposed detector circuit comprises an MCA-based matrix computing module, utilized for processing the small-scale fading coefficient matrix, and amplifier circuits based on operational amplifiers (OAs), utilized for processing the large-scale fading coefficient matrix. We investigate the impacts of the open-loop gain of OAs, conductance mapping scheme, and conductance deviation level on detection performance and demonstrate the performance superiority of the proposed detector circuit over the conventional MCA-based detector circuit. The energy efficiency of the proposed detector circuit surpasses that of a traditional digital processor by several tens to several hundreds of times.

Open-Set Heterogeneous Domain Adaptation: Theoretical Analysis and Algorithm

Domain adaptation (DA) tackles the issue of distribution shift by learning a model from a source domain that generalizes to a target domain. However, most existing DA methods are designed for scenarios where the source and target domain data lie within the same feature space, which limits their applicability in real-world situations. Recently, heterogeneous DA (HeDA) methods have been introduced to address the challenges posed by heterogeneous feature space between source and target domains. Despite their successes, current HeDA techniques fall short when there is a mismatch in both feature and label spaces. To address this, this paper explores a new DA scenario called open-set HeDA (OSHeDA). In OSHeDA, the model must not only handle heterogeneity in feature space but also identify samples belonging to novel classes. To tackle this challenge, we first develop a novel theoretical framework that constructs learning bounds for prediction error on target domain. Guided by this framework, we propose a new DA method called Representation Learning for OSHeDA (RL-OSHeDA). This method is designed to simultaneously transfer knowledge between heterogeneous data sources and identify novel classes. Experiments across text, image, and clinical data demonstrate the effectiveness of our algorithm. Model implementation is available at \url{https://github.com/pth1993/OSHeDA}.

Digital transformation: A systematic review and bibliometric analysis from the corporate finance perspective

Digital transformation significantly impacts firm investment, financing, and value enhancement. A systematic investigation from the corporate finance perspective has not yet been formed. This paper combines bibliometric and content analysis methods to systematically review the evolutionary trend, status quo, hotspots and overall structure of research in digital transformation from 2011 to 2024. The study reveals an emerging and rapidly growing focus on digital transformation research, particularly in developed countries. We categorize the literature into three areas according to bibliometric clustering: the measurements (qualitative and quantitative), impact factors (internal and external), and the economic consequences (investment, financing, and firm value). These areas are divided into ten sub-branches, with a detailed literature review. We also review the existing theories related to digital transformation, identify the current gaps in these papers, and provide directions for future research on each sub-branches.

Magnetic ground state of monolayer CeI$_{2}$: occupation matrix control and DFT+U calculations

The magnetic ground state is crucial for the applications of the two-dimension magnets as it decides fundamental magnetic properties of the material, such as magnetic order, magnetic transition temperature, and low-energy excitation of the spin waves. However, the simulations for magnetism of local-electron systems are challenging due to the existence of metastable states. In this study, occupation matrix control (OMC) and density functional theory plus Hubbard $U$ calculations are applied to investigate the magnetic ground state of monolayer CeI$_{2}$. Following the predicted ferromagnetic (FM) order, the FM ground state and the FM metastable states are identified and found to have different values of the magnetic parameters. Based on the calculated magnetic parameters of the FM ground state, the Curie temperature is estimated to be $128$ K for monolayer CeI$_{2}$. When spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is considered, the FM ground state is further confirmed to contain both off-plane and in-plane components of magnetization. SOC is shown to be essential for reasonably describing not only magnetic anisotropy but also local electronic orbital state of monolayer CeI$_{2}$.

A Survey of Machine Learning-based Physical-Layer Authentication in Wireless Communications

To ensure secure and reliable communication in wireless systems, authenticating the identities of numerous nodes is imperative. Traditional cryptography-based authentication methods suffer from issues such as low compatibility, reliability, and high complexity. Physical-Layer Authentication (PLA) is emerging as a promising complement due to its exploitation of unique properties in wireless environments. Recently, Machine Learning (ML)-based PLA has gained attention for its intelligence, adaptability, universality, and scalability compared to non-ML approaches. However, a comprehensive overview of state-of-the-art ML-based PLA and its foundational aspects is lacking. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of characteristics and technologies that can be used in the ML-based PLA. We categorize existing ML-based PLA schemes into two main types: multi-device identification and attack detection schemes. In deep learning-based multi-device identification schemes, Deep Neural Networks are employed to train models, avoiding complex processing and expert feature transformation. Deep learning-based multi-device identification schemes are further subdivided, with schemes based on Convolutional Neural Networks being extensively researched. In ML-based attack detection schemes, receivers utilize intelligent ML techniques to set detection thresholds automatically, eliminating the need for manual calculation or knowledge of channel models. ML-based attack detection schemes are categorized into three sub-types: Supervised Learning, Unsupervised Learning, and Reinforcement Learning. Additionally, we summarize open-source datasets used for PLA, encompassing Radio Frequency fingerprints and channel fingerprints. Finally, this paper outlines future research directions to guide researchers in related fields.

Global well-posedness and self-similar solution of the inhomogeneous Navier-Stokes system

In this paper, we study the global well-posedness of the 3-D inhomogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes system (INS in short) with initial density $ρ_0$ being discontinuous and initial velocity $u_0$ belonging to some critical space. Firstly, if $ρ_0u_0$ is sufficiently small in the space $\dot{B}^{-1+\frac{3}{p}}_{p,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and $ρ_0$ is close enough to a positive constant in $L^\infty$, we establish the global existence of strong solution to (INS) for $3<p<\infty$ and provide the uniqueness of the solution for $3<p<6$. This result corresponds to Cannone-Meyer-Planchon solution of the classical Navier-Stokes system. Furthermore, with the additional assumption that $u_0\in L^2(\mathbb{R}^3)$, we prove the weak-strong uniqueness between Cannone-Meyer-Planchon solution and Lions weak solution of (INS). Finally, we prove the global well-posedness of (INS) with $u_0\in \dot{B}^{\frac{1}{2}}_{2,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ being small and only an upper bound on the density. This gives the first existence result of the forward self-similar solution for (INS).

Cross-Layer Encrypted Semantic Communication Framework for Panoramic Video Transmission

In this paper, we propose a cross-layer encrypted semantic communication (CLESC) framework for panoramic video transmission, incorporating feature extraction, encoding, encryption, cyclic redundancy check (CRC), and retransmission processes to achieve compatibility between semantic communication and traditional communication systems. Additionally, we propose an adaptive cross-layer transmission mechanism that dynamically adjusts CRC, channel coding, and retransmission schemes based on the importance of semantic information. This ensures that important information is prioritized under poor transmission conditions. To verify the aforementioned framework, we also design an end-to-end adaptive panoramic video semantic transmission (APVST) network that leverages a deep joint source-channel coding (Deep JSCC) structure and attention mechanism, integrated with a latitude adaptive module that facilitates adaptive semantic feature extraction and variable-length encoding of panoramic videos. The proposed CLESC is also applicable to the transmission of other modal data. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed CLESC effectively achieves compatibility and adaptation between semantic communication and traditional communication systems, improving both transmission efficiency and channel adaptability. Compared to traditional cross-layer transmission schemes, the CLESC framework can reduce bandwidth consumption by 85% while showing significant advantages under low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions.
