Efficient Controlled Quantum Secure Direct Communication Protocols

We study controlled quantum secure direct communication (CQSDC), a cryptographic scheme where a sender can send a secret bit-string to an intended recipient, without any secure classical channel, who can obtain the complete bit-string only with the permission of a controller. We report an efficient protocol to realize CQSDC using Cluster state and then go on to construct a (2-3)-CQSDC using Brown state, where a coalition of any two of the three controllers is required to retrieve the complete message. We argue both protocols to be unconditionally secure and analyze the efficiency of the protocols to show it to outperform the existing schemes while maintaining the same security specifications.

Exploring Branched Hamiltonians for a Class of Nonlinear Systems

One of the less well understood ambiguities of quantization is emphasized to result from the presence of higher-order time derivatives in the Lagrangians resulting in multiple-valued Hamiltonians. We explore certain classes of branched Hamiltonians in the context of nonlinear autonomous differential equation of Lienard type. Two eligible elementary nonlinear models that emerge are shown to admit a feasible quantization along these lines.

Signing Perfect Currency Bonds

We propose the idea of a Quantum Cheque Scheme, a cryptographic protocol in which any legitimate client of a trusted bank can issue a cheque, that cannot be counterfeited or altered in anyway, and can be verified by a bank or any of its branches. We formally define a Quantum Cheque and present the first Unconditionally Secure Quantum Cheque Scheme and show it to be secure against any no-signaling adversary. The proposed Quantum Cheque Scheme can been perceived as the quantum analog of Electronic Data Interchange, as an alternate for current e-Payment Gateways.

Topology of Quantum Grey Soliton in Multi-Component Inhomogeneous Bose-Einstein Condensates

We study the dispersion mechanism of Lieb mode excitations of both single and multi component ultra-cold atomic Bose gas, subject to a harmonic confinement through chirp management. It is shown that in some parameter domain, the hole-like excitations lead to the soliton's negative mass regime, arising due to the coupling between chirp momentum and Kohn mode. In low momenta region the trap considerably affects the dispersion of the grey soliton, which opens a new window to observe Lieb-mode excitations. Further, we extend our analysis to binary condensate, which yields usual shape compatible grey-bright soliton pairs. The inter-species interaction induces a shift in the Lieb-mode excitations, where the pair can form a bound state. We emphasize that the present model provides an opportunity to study such excitations in the low momenta regime, as well as the formation of bound state in binary condensate.

Rooted-tree network for optimal non-local gate implementation

A general quantum network for implementing non-local control-unitary gates, between remote parties at minimal entanglement cost, is shown to be a rooted-tree structure. Starting from a five party scenario, we demonstrate the local implementation of simultaneous control-Hermitian and multiparty control-unitary gates in an arbitrary n-party network. Previously established networks are shown to be special cases of this general construct.

Mesoscopic Quantum Superposition of Generalized Cat State: A Diffraction limit

The orthogonality of cat and displaced cat states, underlying Heisenberg limited measurement in quantum metrology, is studied in the limit of large number of states. The mesoscopic superposition of the generalized cat state is correlated with the corresponding state overlap function, controlled by the sub-Planck structures arising from phase space interference. The asymptotic expression of this overlap function is evaluated and the validity of large phase space support and distinguishability of the constituent states, in which context the asymptotic limit is achieved, are discussed in detail. For large number of coherent states, uniformly located on a circle, the overlap function significantly matches with the diffraction pattern for a circular ring source with uniform angular strength. This is in accordance with the van Cittert-Zernike theorem, where the overlap function, similar to the mutual coherence function, matches with a diffraction pattern. The physical situation under consideration is delineated in phase space by utilizing Husimi-Q function.

Quantum Image Representation Through Two-Dimensional Quantum States and Normalized Amplitude

We propose a novel method for image representation in quantum computers, which uses the two-dimensional (2-D) quantum states to locate each pixel in an image through row-location and column-location vectors for identifying each pixel location. The quantum state of an image is the linear superposition of the tensor product of the m-qubits row-location vector and the n-qubits column-location vector of each pixel. It enables the natural quantum representation of rectangular images that other methods lack. The amplitude/intensity of each pixel is incorporated into the coefficient values of the pixel's quantum state, without using any qubits. Due to the fact that linear superposition, tensor product and qubits form the fundamental basis of quantum computing, the proposed method presents the machine level representation of images on quantum computers. Unlike other methods, this method is a pure quantum representation without any classical components.

Controlled Spin Transport in Planar Systems Through Topological Exciton

It is shown that a charge-neutral spin-1 exciton, realizable only in planar systems like graphene, can effectively be used for controlled spin transport in such media. The excitonic bound state is destabilized by quantum fluctuations, characterized by a threshold for excitation and melts in a smooth manner under thermal fluctuations. This planar exciton differs from the conventional ones, as it owes its existence to the topological Chern-Simons (CS) term. The parity and time-reversal violating CS term can arise from quantum effects in systems with parity-breaking mass-gap. The spinning exciton naturally couples to magnetic field, leading to the possibility of controlled spin transport. Being neutral, it is immune to adverse effects, afflicting spin transport by charged fermions.

Chirp Control of Sinusoidal Lattice Modes in Bose-Einstein Condensate

A parametrically forced Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) is studied in the mean field approach for the case of a general moving optical lattice. The interaction between the atoms in the condensate and the time dependent lattice potential leads to a novel propagating superfluid matter wave, which can be controlled through chirp management. This system, when placed in a trap, accelerates and undergoes rapid nonlinear compression, controlled by the chirp. The density achieves its maximum, precisely when the matter wave changes direction. A dynamical phase transition is identified, which takes the superfluid phase to an insulating state. The exact expression for energy is obtained and analyzed in detail to gain physical understanding of the chirp management of the sinusoidal excitations and also the dynamical phase transition.

A study of PT-symmetric Non-linear Schroedinger Equation

Systems governed by the Non-linear Schroedinger Equation (NLSE) with various external PT-symmetric potentials are considered. Exact solutions have been obtained for the same through the method of ansatz, some of them being solitonic in nature. It is found that only the unbroken PT-symmetric phase is realized in these systems, characterized by real energies.

Application of S-Transform on Hyper kurtosis based Modified Duo Histogram Equalized DIC images for Pre-cancer Detection

Our proposed hyper kurtosis based histogram equalized DIC images enhances the contrast by preserving the brightness. The evolution and development of precancerous activity among tissues are studied through S-transform (ST). The significant variations of amplitude spectra can be observed due to increased medium roughness from normal tissue were observed in time-frequency domain. The randomness and inhomogeneity of the tissue structures among human normal and different grades of DIC tissues is recognized by ST based timefrequency analysis. This study offers a simpler and better way to recognize the substantial changes among different stages of DIC tissues, which are reflected by spatial information containing within the inhomogeneity structures of different types of tissue.

A comparative study between proposed Hyper Kurtosis based Modified Duo-Histogram Equalization (HKMDHE) and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) for Contrast Enhancement Purpose of Low Contrast Human Brain CT scan images

In this paper, a comparative study between proposed hyper kurtosis based modified duo-histogram equalization (HKMDHE) algorithm and contrast limited adaptive histogram enhancement (CLAHE) has been presented for the implementation of contrast enhancement and brightness preservation of low contrast human brain CT scan images. In HKMDHE algorithm, contrast enhancement is done on the hyper-kurtosis based application. The results are very promising of proposed HKMDHE technique with improved PSNR values and lesser AMMBE values than CLAHE technique.

Wavelet based approach for tissue fractal parameter measurement: Pre cancer detection

In this paper, we have carried out the detail studies of pre-cancer by wavelet coherency and multifractal based detrended fluctuation analysis (MFDFA) on differential interference contrast (DIC) images of stromal region among different grades of pre-cancer tissues. Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) through Daubechies basis has been performed for identifying fluctuations over polynomial trends for clear characterization and differentiation of tissues. Wavelet coherence plots are performed for identifying the level of correlation in time scale plane between normal and various grades of DIC samples. Applying MFDFA on refractive index variations of cervical tissues, we have observed that the values of Hurst exponent (correlation) decreases from healthy (normal) to pre-cancer tissues. The width of singularity spectrum has a sudden degradation at grade-I in comparison of healthy (normal) tissue but later on it increases as cancer progresses from grade-II to grade-III.

Reliable SVD based Semi-blind and Invisible Watermarking Schemes

A semi-blind watermarking scheme is presented based on Singular Value Decomposition (SVD), which makes essential use of the fact that, the SVD subspace preserves significant amount of information of an image and is a one way decomposition. The principal components are used, along with the corresponding singular vectors of the watermark image to watermark the target image. For further security, the semi-blind scheme is extended to an invisible hash based watermarking scheme. The hash based scheme commits a watermark with a key such that, it is incoherent with the actual watermark, and can only be extracted using the key. Its security is analyzed in the random oracle model and shown to be unforgeable, invisible and satisfying the property of non-repudiation.

Wigner's form of the Leggett-Garg inequality, No-Signalling in Time, and Unsharp Measurements

Wigner's form of the local realist inequality is used to derive its temporal version for an oscillating two-level system involving two-time joint probabilities. Such an inequality may be regarded as a novel form of the Leggett-Garg inequality (LGI) constituting a necessary condition for macrorealism. The robustness of its quantum mechanical (QM) violation against unsharpness of measurement is investigated by using a suitable model of unsharp measurements. It is found that there exists a range of values of the sharpness parameter (characterizing precision of the relevant measurements) for which the usual LGI is satisfied by QM, but Wigner's form of the LGI (WLGI) is violated. This implies that for such unsharp measurements, the QM violation of macrorealism cannot be tested using the usual LGI, but can be tested using WLGI. In showing this, we take into account the general form of the usual LGI involving an arbitrary number of pairs of two-time correlation functions. Another recently proposed necessary condition for macrorealism, called `no-signalling in time', is also probed, showing that its QM violation persists for arbitrarily unsharp measurements.

A method to solve nonlinear Schrödinger equation using Riccati equation

A method to find exact solutions to nonlinear Schrödinger equation, defined on a line and on a plane, is found by connecting it with second order linear ordinary differential equation. The connection is essentially made using Riccati equation. Generalisation of several known solutions is found using this method, in case of nonlinear Schrödinger equation defined on a line. This method also yields non-singular and singular vortex solutions, when applied to nonlinear Schrödinger equation on a plane.

An Adaptive Statistical Non-uniform Quantizer for Detail Wavelet Components in Lossy JPEG2000 Image Compression

The paper presents a non-uniform quantization method for the Detail components in the JPEG2000 standard. Incorporating the fact that the coefficients lying towards the ends of the histogram plot of each Detail component represent the structural information of an image, the quantization step sizes become smaller at they approach the ends of the histogram plot. The variable quantization step sizes are determined by the actual statistics of the wavelet coefficients. Mean and standard deviation are the two statistical parameters used iteratively to obtain the variable step sizes. Moreover, the mean of the coefficients lying within the step size is chosen as the quantized value, contrary to the deadzone uniform quantizer which selects the midpoint of the quantization step size as the quantized value. The experimental results of the deadzone uniform quantizer and the proposed non-uniform quantizer are objectively compared by using Mean-Squared Error (MSE) and Mean Structural Similarity Index Measure (MSSIM), to evaluate the quantization error and reconstructed image quality, respectively. Subjective analysis of the reconstructed images is also carried out. Through the objective and subjective assessments, it is shown that the non-uniform quantizer performs better than the deadzone uniform quantizer in the perceptual quality of the reconstructed image, especially at low bitrates. More importantly, unlike the deadzone uniform quantizer, the non-uniform quantizer accomplishes better visual quality with a few quantized values.

Local implementations of non-local quantum gates in linear entangled channel

In this paper, we demonstrate n-party controlled unitary gate implementations locally on arbitrary remote state through linear entangled channel where control parties share entanglement with the adjacent control parties and only one of them shares entanglement with the target party. In such a network, we describe the protocol of simultaneous implementation of controlled-Hermitian gate starting from three party scenario. We also explicate the implementation of three party controlled-Unitary gate, a generalized form of Toffoli gate and subsequently generalize the protocol for n-party using minimal cost.
