Entanglement and Quantum phase transition in topological insulators

Presence of entangled states is explicitly shown in Topological insulator (TI) $Bi_2Te_3$. The surface and bulk state are found to have the different structures of entanglement. The surface states live as maximally entangled states in the four-dimensional subspace of total Hilbert space (spin, orbital, space). However, bulk states are entangled in the whole Hilbert space. Bulk states are found to be entangled maximally by controlled injection of electrons with momentum only along the z-direction. Scheme to detect entanglement in a 2-D model using measurement, confirming natural implementation of universal Hadamard with Controlled-NOT gates is explicated.

Generalized concurrence measure for faithful quantification of multiparticle pure state entanglement using Lagrange's identity and wedge product

Concurrence, introduced by Hill and Wootters [Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 5022 (1997)], provides an important measure of entanglement for a general pair of qubits that is faithful: strictly positive for entangled states and vanishing for all separable states. Such a measure captures the entire content of entanglement, providing necessary and sufficient conditions for separability. We present an extension of concurrence to multiparticle pure states in arbitrary dimensions by a new framework using the Lagrange's identity and wedge product representation of separability conditions, which coincides with the "I-concurrence" of Rungta et al. [Phys. Rev. A 64, 042315 (2001)] who proposed by extending Wootters's spin-flip operator to a so-called universal inverter superoperator. Our framework exposes an inherent geometry of entanglement, and may be useful for the further extensions to mixed and continuous variable states.

Geometric criterion for separability based on local measurement

A geometric understanding of entanglement is proposed based on local measurements. Taking recourse to the general structure of density matrices in the framework of Euclidean geometry, we first illustrate our approach for bipartite Werner states. It is demonstrated that separable states satisfy certain geometric constraints that entangled states do not. A separability criterion for multiparty Werner states of arbitrary dimension is derived. This approach can be used to determine separability across any bipartition of a general density matrix and leads naturally to a computable measure of entanglement for multiparty pure states. It is known that all density matrices within a certain distance of the normalized identity are separable. This distance is determined for a general setting of $n$ qudits, each of dimension $d$.

Quantum Gauge Freedom in Very Special Relativity

We demonstrate Yokoyama gaugeon formalism for the Abelian one-form gauge (Maxwell) as well as for Abelian two-form gauge theory in the very special relativity (VSR) framework. In VSR scenario, the extended action due to introduction of gaugeon fields also possesses form invariance under quantum gauge transformations. It is observed that the gaugeon field together with gauge field naturally acquire mass, which is different from the conventional Higgs mechanism. The quantum gauge transformation implements a shift in gauge parameter. Further, we analyse the BRST symmetric gaugeon formalism in VSR which embeds only one subsidiary condition rather than two.

Conservation Law for Massive Scale-Invariant Photons in Weyl-Invariant Gravity

It is demonstrated that a Stueckelberg-type gauge theory, coupled to the scalar-tensor theory of gravity, is invariant under both gauge and Weyl transformations. Unlike the pure Stueckelberg theory, this coupled Lagrangian has a genuine Weyl symmetry, with a non-vanishing current. The above is true in the Jordan frame, whereas in the Einstein frame, the same theory manifests as Proca theory in presence of pure gravity. It is found that broken scale invariance leads to simultaneous spontaneous breaking of the gauge symmetry.

Intensity and radiation statistics of correlated dipoles in GHZ and W-states

We investigate the super and sub-radiance characteristics of the radiation emitted from a system of three two-level atoms, in the GHZ and W-states. The dipolar coupling between atoms leads to two distinct configurations, one in which the three atoms are on a line, and the other in a closed loop form, wherein each atom interacts with both its neighbours. The quantum statistical properties of the emitted radiation show distinctly different characteristics for the GHZ and W-states resulting from the above configurations. The far-field radiation pattern also shows distinct differences between differently entangled states, making it possible for optical probing of entangled states.

Causality and Correlations between BSE and NYSE indexes: A Janus Faced Relationship

We study the multi-scale temporal correlations and causality connections between the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) monthly average closing price indexes for a period of 300 months, encompassing the time period of the liberalisation of the Indian economy and its gradual global exposure. In multi-scale analysis; clearly identifiable 1, 2 and 3 year non-stationary periodic modulations in NYSE and BSE have been observed, with NYSE commensurating changes in BSE at 3 years scale. Interestingly, at one year time scale, the two exchanges are phase locked only during the turbulent times, while at the scale of three year, in-phase nature is observed for a much longer time frame. The two year time period, having characteristics of both one and three year variations, acts as the transition regime. The normalised NYSE's stock value is found to Granger cause those of BSE, with a time lag of 9 months. Surprisingly, observed Granger causality of high frequency variations reveals BSE behaviour getting reflected in the NYSE index fluctuations, after a smaller time lag. This Janus faced relationship, shows that smaller stock exchanges may provide a natural setting for simulating market fluctuations of much bigger exchanges. This possibly arises due to the fact that high frequency fluctuations form an universal part of the financial time series, and are expected to exhibit similar characteristics in open market economies.

Self-organised-criticality and punctuated equilibrium in bouncing balls

A nonlinearly coupled system of bouncing balls is shown to exhibit features like self-organised-criticality (SOC) and punctuated equilibrium (PE) in suitable parameter domains. The temporal evolution of the non-stationary amplitudes is analysed through local methods to unravel the transient periodic components and fluctuations giving rise to SOC and PE type behaviours. This simple dynamical system follows Gutenberg-Richter relation and also manifests the Devil's staircase, explicating the universality of these features in diverse complex systems.

Uncertainty relation and inseparability criterion

We investigate the Peres-Horodecki positive partial transpose (PPT) criterion in the context of conserved quantities and derive a condition of in- separability for a composite bipartite system depending only on the dimen- sions of its subsystems, which leads to a bi-linear entanglement witness for the two qubit system. A separability inequality using generalized Schrodinger- Robertson uncertainty relation taking suitable operators, has been derived, which proves to be stronger than the bi-linear entanglement witness operator. In the case of mixed density matrices, it identically distinguishes the separable and non separable Werner states.

Asymmetric Quantum Dialogue in Noisy Environment

A notion of asymmetric quantum dialogue (AQD) is introduced. Conventional protocols of quantum dialogue are essentially symmetric as both the users (Alice and Bob) can encode the same amount of classical information. In contrast, the scheme for AQD introduced here provides different amount of communication powers to Alice and Bob. The proposed scheme, offers an architecture, where the entangled state and the encoding scheme to be shared between Alice and Bob depends on the amount of classical information they want to exchange with each other. The general structure for the AQD scheme has been obtained using a group theoretic structure of the operators introduced in (Shukla et al., Phys. Lett. A, 377 (2013) 518). The effect of different types of noises (e.g., amplitude damping and phase damping noise) on the proposed scheme is investigated, and it is shown that the proposed AQD is robust and uses optimized amount of quantum resources.

Charge Fractionalization in Oxide Heterostructures: A Field Theoretical Model

LaAlO$_{3}$/SrTiO$_{3}$ heterostructure with polar and non-polar constituents has been shown to exhibit interface metallic conductivity due to fractional charge transfer to the interface. The interface reconstruction by electron redistribution along (001) orientation, in which half of an electron is transferred per two dimensional unit cell to the adjacent planes, resulting in a net transfer of half of the charge, to both the interface and top most atomic planes, has been ascribed to a polar discontinuity at the interface in the Polar Catastrophe model. This avoids the divergence of electrostatic potential, as the number of layers are increased, producing an oscillatory electric field and finite potential. Akin to the description of charge fractionalization in quasi one-dimensional polyacetylene by the field theoretic Jackiw-Rebbi model with fermions interacting with topologically non-trivial background field, we show an analogous connection between polar catastrophe model and Bell-Rajaraman model, where the charge fractionalization occurs in the soliton free sector as an end effect.

On Spectrum Generating Algebra of the Heun Operator

The Heun operator has been cast, in terms of the elements of an underlying $su(1,1)$ algebra, under specific parametric conditions, for the purpose of spectrum generation. These elements are differential operators of \emph{degrees} $\pm 1/2$ and $0$. It is found that the regular singularities at $0$ and $\infty$ of the general Heun equation must be \emph{elementary} under the required parametric conditions. The spectrum generation has been demonstrated through a set of examples.

Quantum and Thermal Fluctuations and Pair-breaking in Planar QED

Planar quantum electrodynamics, in presence of tree-level Chern-Simons term, is shown to support bound state excitations, with a threshold, not present for the pure Chern-Simons theory. In the present case, the bound state gets destabilized by vacuum fluctuations. The bound state itself finds justification in the duality of the theory with massive topological vector field. Thermal fluctuations further destabilize this state, leading to smooth dissociation at high temperatures. Physical systems are suggested for observing such a bound state.

Deutschian closed timelike curves can create entanglement

We study the nature of entanglement in presence of Deutschian closed timelike curves (D-CTCs) and we observe that qubits traveling along a D-CTC allow unambiguous discrimination of Bell states with Local Operations and Classical Communications (LOCC), that is otherwise known to be impossible. A consequence of this leads us to discover that localized D-CTCs can create entanglement, using just local operations and classical communication. This contradicts the fundamental definition of entanglement.

Origin of Lattice Spin in Graphitic Systems

Lattice spin, in planar condensed matter system with emergent Dirac dispersion, is shown to emerge from the inherent SU(2) symmetry, arising through Schwingers angular momentum construction from anti-commuting Heisenberg operators of the sub-lattices. The presence of a mass term in the emergent Dirac dispersion is essential for the existence of this spin. The usual hopping term, that entangles the two sub-lattices, leads to the orbital counterpart. Relative sub-lattice displacements, that couple to the effective Dirac fermions like U(1) gauge fields, do not effect the lattice spin.

Semirational and symbiotic self-similar rogue waves in a (2+1)-dimensional graded-index waveguide

We have investigated the ($2+1$)-dimensional variable coefficient coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equation (vc-CNLSE) in a graded-index waveguide. Similarity transformations are used to convert the vc-CNLSE into constant coefficient CNLSE. Under certain functional constraints we could extract semirational, multi-parametric solution of the associated Manakov system. This family of solutions include known Peregrine soliton, mixture of either bright soliton and rogue wave or dark soliton and rogue wave or breather and rogue wave. Under a distinct set of self-phase modulation (SPM) and cross-phase modulation (XPM) coefficients we could establish symbiotic existence of different soliton pairs as solutions. These soliton pairs may constitute of one bright and a dark soliton, two bright solitons or two dark solitons. Finally, when two wave components are directly proportional, we find bright and dark similaritons, self-similar breathers and rogue waves as different solutions.

Heisenberg Symmetry and Collective Modes of One Dimensional Unitary Correlated Fermions

The correlated fermionic many-particle system, near infinite scattering length, reveals an underlying Heisenberg symmetry in one dimension, as compared to an $SO(2,1)$ symmetry in two dimensions. This facilitates an exact map from the interacting to the non-interacting system, both with and without a harmonic trap, and explains the short-distance scaling behavior of the wave-function. Taking advantage of the phenomenological Calogero-Sutherland-type interaction, motivated by the density functional approach, we connect the ground-state energy shift, to many-body correlation effect. For the excited states, modes at integral values of the harmonic frequency $ω$, are predicted in one dimension, in contrast to the breathing modes with frequency $2ω$ in two dimensions.

Controlled Generation of Nonlinear Resonances through Sinusoidal Lattice Modes in Bose-Einstein Condensate

We study Bose-Einstein condensate in the combined presence of time modulated optical lattice and harmonic trap in the mean-field approach. Through the self-similar method, we show the existence of sinusoidal lattice modes in this inhomogeneous system, commensurate with the lattice potential. A significant advantage of this system is wide tunability of the parameters through chirp management. The combined effect of the interaction, harmonic trap and lattice potential leads to the generation of nonlinear resonances, exactly where the matter wave changes its direction. When the harmonic trap is switched off, the BEC undergoes a nonlinear compression for the static optical lattice potential. For better understanding of chirp management and the nature of the sinusoidal excitation, we investigate the energy spectrum of the condensate, which clearly reveals the generation of nonlinear resonances in the appropriate regime. We have also identified a classical dynamical phase transition occurring in the system, where loss of superfluidity takes the superfluid phase to an insulating state.
