Disappearance of static magnetic order and evolution of spin fluctuations in Fe$_{1+δ}$Se$_{x}$Te$_{1-x}$

We report neutron scattering studies on static magnetic orders and spin excitations in the Fe-based chalcogenide system Fe$_{1+δ}$Se$_{x}$Te$_{1-x}$ with different Fe and Se compositions. Short-range static magnetic order with the "bicollinear" spin configuration is found in all non-superconducting samples, with strong low-energy magnetic excitations near the $(0.5,0)$ in-plane wave-vector (using the two-Fe unit cell) for Se doping up to 45%. When the static order disappears and bulk superconductivity emerges, the spectral weight of the magnetic excitations shifts to the region of reciprocal space near the in-plane wave-vector $(0.5,0.5)$, corresponding to the "collinear" spin configuration. Our results suggest that spin fluctuations associated with the collinear magnetic structure appear to be universal in all Fe-based superconductors, and there is a strong correlation between superconductivity and the character of the magnetic order/fluctuations in

Effect of magnetic field on the spin resonance in FeTe(0.5)Se(0.5) as seen via inelastic neutron scattering

Inelastic neutron scattering and susceptibility measurements have been performed on the optimally-doped Fe-based superconductor FeTe(0.5)Se(0.5), which has a critical temperature, Tc of 14 K. The magnetic scattering at the stripe antiferromagnetic wave-vector Q = (0.5,0.5) exhibits a "resonance" at ~ 6 meV, where the scattering intensity increases abruptly when cooled below Tc. In a 7-T magnetic field parallel to the a-b plane, Tc is slightly reduced to ~ 12 K, based on susceptibility measurements. The resonance in the neutron scattering measurements is also affected by the field. The resonance intensity under field cooling starts to rise at a lower temperature ~ 12 K, and the low temperature intensity is also reduced from the zero-field value. Our results provide clear evidence for the intimate relationship between superconductivity and the resonance measured in magnetic excitations of Fe-based superconductors.

A Novel Clustering Algorithm Based Upon Games on Evolving Network

This paper introduces a model based upon games on an evolving network, and develops three clustering algorithms according to it. In the clustering algorithms, data points for clustering are regarded as players who can make decisions in games. On the network describing relationships among data points, an edge-removing-and-rewiring (ERR) function is employed to explore in a neighborhood of a data point, which removes edges connecting to neighbors with small payoffs, and creates new edges to neighbors with larger payoffs. As such, the connections among data points vary over time. During the evolution of network, some strategies are spread in the network. As a consequence, clusters are formed automatically, in which data points with the same evolutionarily stable strategy are collected as a cluster, so the number of evolutionarily stable strategies indicates the number of clusters. Moreover, the experimental results have demonstrated that data points in datasets are clustered reasonably and efficiently, and the comparison with other algorithms also provides an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

ZZ+jet and Graviton+jet at NLO QCD: recent applications using GOLEM methods

In this talk we discuss recent progress concerning precise predictions for hadron colliders. We show results of two applications of tensor reduction using GOLEM methods: the next-to-leading order (NLO) corrections to $pp \to ZZ+$jet as an important background for Higgs particle and new physics searches at hadron colliders, and the NLO corrections to graviton plus jet hadro-production, which is an important channel for graviton searches at the Tevatron and the LHC.

A Novel Clustering Algorithm Based on Quantum Games

Enormous successes have been made by quantum algorithms during the last decade. In this paper, we combine the quantum game with the problem of data clustering, and then develop a quantum-game-based clustering algorithm, in which data points in a dataset are considered as players who can make decisions and implement quantum strategies in quantum games. After each round of a quantum game, each player's expected payoff is calculated. Later, he uses a link-removing-and-rewiring (LRR) function to change his neighbors and adjust the strength of links connecting to them in order to maximize his payoff. Further, algorithms are discussed and analyzed in two cases of strategies, two payoff matrixes and two LRR functions. Consequently, the simulation results have demonstrated that data points in datasets are clustered reasonably and efficiently, and the clustering algorithms have fast rates of convergence. Moreover, the comparison with other algorithms also provides an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Short-range incommensurate magnetic order near the superconducting phase boundary in Fe(1+d)Te(1-x)Se(x)

We performed elastic neutron scattering and magnetization measurements on Fe(1.07)Te(0.75)Se(0.25) and FeTe(0.7)Se(0.3). Short-range incommensurate magnetic order is observed in both samples. In the former sample with higher Fe content, a broad magnetic peak appears around (0.46,0,0.5) at low temperature, while in FeTe(0.7)Se(0.3) the broad magnetic peak is found to be closer to the antiferromagnetic (AFM) wave-vector (0.5,0,0.5). The incommensurate peaks are only observed on one side of the AFM wave-vector for both samples, which can be modeled in terms of an imbalance of ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic correlations between nearest-neighbor spins. We also find that with higher Se (and lower Fe) concentration, the magnetic order becomes weaker while the superconducting temperature and volume increase.

Jet angular correlation in vector-boson fusion processes at hadron colliders

Higgs boson and massive-graviton productions in association with two jets via vector-boson fusion (VBF) processes and their decays into a vector-boson pair at hadron colliders are studied. They include scalar and tensor boson production processes via weak-boson fusion in quark-quark collisions, gluon fusion in quark-quark, quark-gluon and gluon-gluon collisions, as well as their decays into a pair of weak bosons or virtual gluons which subsequently decay into $\ell\bar\ell$, $q\bar q$ or $gg$. We give the helicity amplitudes explicitly for all the VBF subprocesses, and show that the VBF amplitudes dominate the exact matrix elements not only for the weak-boson fusion processes but also for all the gluon fusion processes when appropriate selection cuts are applied, such as a large rapidity separation between two jets and a slicing cut for the transverse momenta of the jets. We also show that our off-shell vector-boson current amplitudes reduce to the standard quark and gluon splitting amplitudes with appropriate gluon-polarization phases in the collinear limit. Nontrivial azimuthal angle correlations of the jets in the production and in the decay of massive spin-0 and -2 bosons are manifestly expressed as the quantum interference among different helicity states of the intermediate vector-bosons. Those correlations reflect the spin and the CP nature of the Higgs bosons and the massive gravitons.

Leakage Currents and Capacitances of Thick CZT Detectors

The quality of Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) detectors is steadily improving. For state of the art detectors, readout noise is thus becoming an increasingly important factor for the overall energy resolution. In this contribution, we present measurements and calculations of the dark currents and capacitances of 0.5 cm-thick CZT detectors contacted with a monolithic cathode and 8x8 anode pixels on a surface of 2 cm x 2 cm. Using the NCI ASIC from Brookhaven National Laboratory as an example, we estimate the readout noise caused by the dark currents and capacitances. Furthermore, we discuss possible additional readout noise caused by pixel-pixel and pixel-cathode noise coupling.

A New Clustering Algorithm Based Upon Flocking On Complex Network

We have proposed a model based upon flocking on a complex network, and then developed two clustering algorithms on the basis of it. In the algorithms, firstly a \textit{k}-nearest neighbor (knn) graph as a weighted and directed graph is produced among all data points in a dataset each of which is regarded as an agent who can move in space, and then a time-varying complex network is created by adding long-range links for each data point. Furthermore, each data point is not only acted by its \textit{k} nearest neighbors but also \textit{r} long-range neighbors through fields established in space by them together, so it will take a step along the direction of the vector sum of all fields. It is more important that these long-range links provides some hidden information for each data point when it moves and at the same time accelerate its speed converging to a center. As they move in space according to the proposed model, data points that belong to the same class are located at a same position gradually, whereas those that belong to different classes are away from one another. Consequently, the experimental results have demonstrated that data points in datasets are clustered reasonably and efficiently, and the rates of convergence of clustering algorithms are fast enough. Moreover, the comparison with other algorithms also provides an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A Novel Clustering Algorithm Based on Quantum Random Walk

The enormous successes have been made by quantum algorithms during the last decade. In this paper, we combine the quantum random walk (QRW) with the problem of data clustering, and develop two clustering algorithms based on the one dimensional QRW. Then, the probability distributions on the positions induced by QRW in these algorithms are investigated, which also indicates the possibility of obtaining better results. Consequently, the experimental results have demonstrated that data points in datasets are clustered reasonably and efficiently, and the clustering algorithms are of fast rates of convergence. Moreover, the comparison with other algorithms also provides an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A Novel Clustering Algorithm Based on a Modified Model of Random Walk

We introduce a modified model of random walk, and then develop two novel clustering algorithms based on it. In the algorithms, each data point in a dataset is considered as a particle which can move at random in space according to the preset rules in the modified model. Further, this data point may be also viewed as a local control subsystem, in which the controller adjusts its transition probability vector in terms of the feedbacks of all data points, and then its transition direction is identified by an event-generating function. Finally, the positions of all data points are updated. As they move in space, data points collect gradually and some separating parts emerge among them automatically. As a consequence, data points that belong to the same class are located at a same position, whereas those that belong to different classes are away from one another. Moreover, the experimental results have demonstrated that data points in the test datasets are clustered reasonably and efficiently, and the comparison with other algorithms also provides an indication of the effectiveness of the proposed algorithms.

HELAS and MadGraph/MadEvent with spin-2 particles

Fortran subroutines to calculate helicity amplitudes with massive spin-2 particles (massive gravitons), which couple to the standard model particles via the energy momentum tensor, are added to the {\tt HELAS} ({\tt HEL}icity {\tt A}mplitude {\tt S}ubroutines) library. They are coded in such a way that arbitrary scattering amplitudes with one graviton production and its decays can be generated automatically by {\tt MadGraph} and {\tt MadEvent}, after slight modifications. All the codes have been tested carefully by making use of the invariance of the helicity amplitudes under the gauge and general coordinate transformations.

Graviton production with 2 jets at the LHC in large extra dimensions

We study Kaluza-Klein (KK) graviton production in the large extra dimensions model via 2 jets plus missing transverse momentum signatures at the LHC. We make predictions for both the signal and the dominant Zjj and Wjj backgrounds, where we introduce missing P_T-dependent jet selection cuts that ensure the smallness of the 2-jet rate over the 1-jet rate. With the same jet selection cuts, the distributions of the two jets and their correlation with the missing transverse momentum provide additional evidence for the production of an invisible massive object.

Test of CZT Detectors with Different Pixel Pitches and Thicknesses

The Modified Horizontal Bridgman (MHB) process produces Cadmium Zinc Telluride (CZT) crystals with high yield and excellent homogeneity. Various groups, including our own, previously reported on the test of 2x2x0.5 cm3 MHB CZT detectors grown by the company Orbotech and read out with 8x8 pixels. In this contribution, we describe the optimization of the photolithographic process used for contacting the CZT detector with pixel contacts. The optimized process gives a high yield of good pixels down to pixel diameters/pitches of 50 microns. Furthermore, we discuss the performance of 0.5 cm and 0.75 cm thick detectors contacted with 64 and 225 pixel read out with the RENA-3 ASICs from the company NOVA R&D.

Nonlinear Thermal Properties of Three-Terminal Mesoscopic Dielectric Systems

This paper studies the thermal properties of three-terminal mesoscopic dielectric systems in the nonlinear response regime at low temperature. For a symmetric three-terminal system, when the temperature is finitely different between the left and right thermal reservoirs, the temperature of the central thermal reservoir is always higher than the averaging temperature of the others. This nonlinear thermal phenomenon is also observed for asymmetric three-terminal systems. At the end, a model of thermal rectification is presented.

Formation of bulk ferromagnetic nanostructured Fe40Ni40P14B6 alloys by metastable liquid spinodal decomposition

Nanostructured Fe40Ni40P14B6 alloys ingots of diameter 3~5 mm could be synthesised by a metastable liquid state spinodal decomposition method. The molten Fe40Ni40P14B6 alloy was purified by means of the fluxing technique and thus a large undercooling could be achieved. For undercooling Delta T > 260 K, the microstructure of the undercooled specimen had exhibited liquid state spinodal decomposition in the undercooled liquid state. The microstructure could be described as two intertwining networks with small grains dispersed in them. For undercooling Delta T > 290 K, the overall microstructure of the specimen changed into a granular morphology. The average grain sizes of the small and large grains are ~ 30 nm and ~ 80 nm, respectively. These prepared samples are soft magnets with saturation magnetization Bs ~0.744 T.

On the End-to-End Distortion for a Buffered Transmission over Fading Channel

In this paper, we study the end-to-end distortion/delay tradeoff for a analogue source transmitted over a fading channel. The analogue source is quantized and stored in a buffer until it is transmitted. There are two extreme cases as far as buffer delay is concerned: no delay and infinite delay. We observe that there is a significant power gain by introducing a buffer delay. Our goal is to investigate the situation between these two extremes. Using recently proposed \emph{effective capacity} concept, we derive a closed-form formula for this tradeoff. For SISO case, an asymptotically tight upper bound for our distortion-delay curve is derived, which approaches to the infinite delay lower bound as $\mathcal{D}_\infty \exp(\frac{C}{τ_n})$, with $τ_n$ is the normalized delay, $C$ is a constant. For more general MIMO channel, we computed the distortion SNR exponent -- the exponential decay rate of the expected distortion in the high SNR regime. Numerical results demonstrate that introduction of a small amount delay can save significant transmission power.

Compaction of bulk amorphous Fe40Ni40P14B6 alloys

The consolidations of two bulk amorphous Fe40Ni40P14B6 alloy discs are performed via hot pressing for a short time in its supercooled liquid region under a pressure of ~1.2 GPa. When the consolidated temperature Ts is lower, the conjunction of two bulk amorphous Fe40Ni40P14B6 alloy discs cannot be achieved. Only when Ts get to the vicinity of 675 K, two amorphous Fe40Ni40P14B6 alloy discs have low viscosity enough to be fully fused together in a short time and the resulting compacts retain ~90% amorphous phase. To further improve the consolidated temperature Ts, a vast amount of crystallization will occur and result in the embrittlement of amorphous alloy.
