Explainable AI-assisted Optimization for Feynman Integral Reduction

We present a novel approach to optimizing the reduction of Feynman integrals using integration-by-parts identities. By developing a priority function through the FunSearch algorithm, which combines large language models and genetic algorithms, we achieve significant improvements in memory usage and computational efficiency compared to traditional methods. Our approach demonstrates substantial reductions in the required seeding integrals, making previously intractable integrals more manageable. Tested on a variety of Feynman integrals, including one-loop and multi-loop cases with planar and non-planar configurations, our method demonstrates remarkable scalability and adaptability. For reductions of certain Feynman integrals with many dots and numerators, we observed an improvement by a factor of 3058 compared to traditional methods. This work provides a powerful and interpretable framework for optimizing IBP reductions, paving the way for more efficient and practical calculations in high-energy physics.

Distinct photon-ALP propagation modes

Measurement of cosmic photons may reveal their propagation in the interstellar environment, thereby offering a promising way to probe axions and axion-like particles (ALPs). Numerical methods are usually used to compute the propagation of the photon-ALP beam due to the complexity of both the interstellar magnetic field and the evolution equation. However, under certain conditions, the evolution equation can be greatly simplified so that the photon-ALP propagation can be analytically solved. By using analytic methods, we find two distinct photon-ALP propagation modes, determined by the relative magnitude of the photon-ALP mixing term in comparison to the photon attenuation term. In one mode, the intensity of photons decreases with the increasing distance; in the other mode, it also exhibits oscillatory behavior. To distinguish the two propagation modes, we compute the observable quantities such as the photon survival probability and the degree of polarization. We also determine through analytic methods the conditions under which maximum polarization can be observed and the corresponding upper bound of the survival probability.

Unitarity Bounds and Basis Transformations in SMEFT: An Analysis of Warsaw and SILH Bases

The equivalence between the Warsaw and SILH bases in Standard Model Effective Field Theory is well established, with transformation rules connecting the two via equations of motion and field redefinitions. This study presents an explicit calculation of the analytical unitarity bounds-defined as the marginal limit of the parameter space-for dimension-six operators within both the Warsaw and SILH bases. We employ a coupled channel analysis to scrutinize scattering processes involving vector bosons and fermions. We conduct a comprehensive investigation into the transformation of unitarity bounds under changes in the operator basis. Our findings demonstrate that the transformation rules, as implicated by the equivalence theorem, can be directly applied to convert unitarity bounds from one basis to another, provided that the operators involved in the transformation rules do not belong to the same subset defined by a block in the coupled channel matrix.

Long-lived Searches of Vector-like Lepton and Its Accompanying Scalar at Colliders

Recently, the vector-like leptons (VLLs) as a simple extension to the standard model (SM) have attracted widespread attention both in theory and experiments. The present collider searches mainly focus on the studies of their prompt decays, which prefer a relatively large coupling. In this paper, we concentrate on searches for long-lived signatures of the singlet VLLs $F$ or their accompanying scalar particles $ϕ$ both in the hadronic and electronic colliders. The long-lived signatures are naturally induced from small chiral mass mixing between VLLs and SM leptons. Two specific models distinguished by whether the VLLs couple to scalar particles are introduced to realize the aforementioned features. For long-lived VLLs case, we find that with the kink track method the sensitivities at future HL-LHC with $\sqrt{s}=14~\text{TeV}$ can reach the regions for VLL mass $m_F \in [200,1100]~\text{GeV}$ and the mass mixing parameter $θ_L \in [10^{-10},3\times 10^{-8}]$. For the long-lived accompanying scalar particle case, by fixing VLLs or scalar mass, or the mass ratio between VLL and the accompanying scalar, we explore the projected sensitivities through the time delay and displaced vertex strategies, which can probe the regions for $m_F \in [200,1200]~\text{GeV}$ and coupling $yθ_L\in [10^{-11},10^{-6}]$. Furthermore, we also explore the long-lived accompanying scalars at the future CEPC provided that the VLLs can couple to the SM first-generation leptons. We find that CEPC has good performances for $m_ϕ< 120~\text{GeV}$ and $m_F<1200~\text{GeV}$. These long-lived searches are complementary to previous studies, which opens the door towards the smaller coupling regions.

Global Symmetries and Effective Potential of 2HDM in Orbit Space

We extend the framework of analyzing the 2HDM in its orbit space to study the one-loop effective potential before and after electroweak symmetry breaking. In this framework, we present a comprehensive analysis of global symmetries of the one-loop thermal effective potential in the 2HDM, demonstrating when the global symmetries of the tree-level 2HDM potential are broken by loop contributions. By introducing light-cone coordinates and generalizing the bilinear notation around the vacuum, we present a geometric view of the scalar mass matrix and on-shell renormalization conditions.

New observables for testing Bell inequalities in $W$ boson pair production

We show that testing Bell inequalities in $W^\pm$ pair systems by measuring their angular correlation suffers from the ambiguity in kinetical reconstruction of the di-lepton decay mode. We further propose a new set of Bell observables based on the measurement of the linear polarization of the $W$ bosons, providing a realistic observable to test Bell inequalities in $W^\pm$ pair systems for the first time.

Measuring $hhWW$ Coupling at Lepton Colliders

The quartic Higgs-gauge-boson coupling $g_{hhWW}$ is sensitive to the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism, however, it is challenging to be measured at the large hadron collider. We show that the coupling can be well probed at future lepton colliders through di-Higgs boson production via the vector boson fusion channel. We perform a detailed simulation of $\ell^+\ell^-\to ν\barνhh\to 4b\,+ \!\!\not{\!\! E}_T$ with parton showering effects at $e^+e^-$, $μ^+μ^-$ and $e^-μ^+$ colliders. We find that the regions of $g_{hhWW}/g_{hhWW}^{\rm SM}<0.86$ and $g_{hhWW}/g_{hhWW}^{\rm SM}>1.32$ can be discovered at the $5σ$ confidence level at the 10 TeV $μ^+ μ^-$ collider with an integrated luminosity of 3 ab$^{-1}$.

Entropy constraints on effective field theory

In effective field theory, the positivity bounds of higher derivative operators are derived from analyticity, causality, and unitarity. We show that the positivity bounds on some operators of the effective field theory, e.g., dimension-eight term of a single massless scalar field, the Standard Model Effective Field Theory dimension-eight $SU(N)$ gauge bosonic operators, and higher-derivative operators in the Einstein-Maxwell theory, generated by interactions between heavy and light degrees of freedom can be derived by the non-negativity of relative entropy. For such effective field theories, we prove that the interactions increase thermodynamic entropy at a fixed charge and an extremal point of energy, which is intimately connected with the extremality relations of black holes exhibiting Weak-Gravity-Conjecture. These arguments are applicable when corrections from the interactions involving higher-derivative operators of light fields are not dominant in the effective field theories. The entropy constraint is a consequence of the Hermiticity of Hamiltonian, and any theory violating the non-negativity of entropy would not respect the second law of thermodynamics.

Exposing new scalars hiding behind the Higgs boson

It is possible that there is another scalar hiding behind the known 125 GeV Higgs boson. If the hidden scalar exhibits a CP property different from the Higgs boson, it can be exposed in the di-Higgs production at the high-luminosity large hadron collider and future colliders.

Effective field theory in light of relative entropy

We study constraints on the effective field theory (EFT) from the relative entropy between two theories: we refer to these as target and reference theories. The consequence of the non-negativity of the relative entropy is investigated by choosing some reference theories for a given target theory involving field theories, quantum mechanical models, etc. It is found that the constraints on EFTs, e.g., the single massless scalar field with the dimension-eight operator, and SMEFT dimension-eight $SU(N)$ gauge bosonic operators, are consistent with the positivity bounds from the unitarity and causality when the higher-derivative operators are generated by the interaction between heavy and light fields. The constraints on Einstein-Maxwell theory with higher-derivative operators from the non-negativity of relative entropy are also investigated. The constraints on such EFTs from the relative entropy hold under an assumption that perturbative corrections from the interaction involving higher-derivative operators of light fields are not dominant in the EFTs. The consequence of this study on the weak gravity conjecture and the second law of thermodynamics is also discussed.

CP Phases in 2HDM and Effective Potential: A Geometrical View

Using a geometric description of 2HDM, we classify CP invariants into three independent sectors such as scalar potential, Yukawa interaction and CKM matrix. Thermal effective potential of 2HDM is calculated in a basis invariant way. It is shown that the CP violation in Yukawa interactions can contribute to effective potential at one loop level but the CP phase in the CKM matrix cannot leak to effective potential at all orders. In the 2HDM with a softly broken Z_2 symmetry, the leading thermal correction tends to restore the CP symmetry at high temperature.

What can we learn from the total width of the Higgs boson?

As one of the key properties of the Higgs boson, the Higgs total width is sensitive to global profile of the Higgs boson couplings, and thus new physics would modify the Higgs width. We investigate the total width in various new physics models, including various scalar extension, composite Higgs models, and fraternal twin Higgs model. Typically the Higgs width is smaller than the standard model value due to mixture with other scalar if the Higgs is elementary, or curved Higgs field space for the composite Higgs. On the other hand, except the possible invisible decay mode, the enhanced Yukawa coupling in the two Higgs doublet model or the exotic fermion embeddings in the composite Higgs, could enhance the Higgs width greatly. The precision measurement of the Higgs total width at the high-luminosity LHC can be used to discriminate certain new physics models.

Probing Magnetic Moment Operators in $H γ$ Production and $H \to τ^+ τ^- γ$ Rare Decay

The magnetic moment ($a_γ$) and weak magnetic moment ($a_W$) of charged leptons and quarks are sensitive to quantum effects of new physics heavy resonances. In effective field theory $a_γ$ and $a_W$ are induced by two independent operators, therefore, one has to measure both the $a_γ$ and $a_W$ to shed lights on new physics. The $a_W$'s of the SM fermions are measured at the LEP. In this work, we analyze the contributions from magnetic and weak magnetic moment operators in the processes of $pp\to H γ$ and $gg\to H \to τ^+ τ^- γ$ at the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider. We demonstrate that the two processes could cover most of the parameter space that cannot be probed at the LEP.

New Physics and Two Boosted W-jets plus Missing Energy

We show that the signature of two boosted $W$-jets plus large missing energy is very promising to probe heavy charged resonances ($X^\pm$) through the process of $pp\to X^+X^-\to W^+W^- X^0 X^0$ where $X^0$ denotes dark matter candidate. The hadronic decay mode of the $W$ boson is considered to maximize the number of signal events. When the mass split between $X^\pm$ and $X^0$ is large, one has to utilize the jet-substructure technique to analyze the boosted $W$-jet. For illustration we consider the process of chargino pair production at the LHC, i.e., $pp\to χ_1^+χ^-_1 \to W^+W^-χ_1^0χ_1^0$, and demonstrate that the proposed signature is able to cover more parameter space of $m_{χ_1^\pm}$ and $m_{χ_1^0}$ than the conventional signature of multiple leptons plus missing energy. More importantly, the signature of our interests is not sensitive to the spin of heavy resonances.

Single Top Quark Production with and without a Higgs Boson

One way to probe new physics beyond standard model is to check the correlation among higher dimension operators in effective field theory. We examine the strong correlation between the processes of $pp\rightarrow tHq$ and $pp\rightarrow tq$ which both depend on the same three operators. The correlation indicates that, according to the data of $pp\rightarrow tq$, $σ_{tHq}=\big[106.8 \pm 64.8\big]~{\rm fb}$ which is far below the current upper limit $σ_{tHq}\leq 900~{\rm fb}$.

Electroweak phase transition triggered by fermion sector

To realize first-order electroweak phase transition, it is necessary to generate a barrier in the thermal Higgs potential, which is usually triggered by scalar degree of freedom. We instead investigate phase transition patterns in pure fermion extensions of the standard model, and find that additional fermions with mass hierarchy and mixing could develop such barrier and realize strongly first-order phase transition in such models. In the Higgs potential with polynomial parametrization, the barrier can be generated in the following two patterns: (I) positive quadratic term, negative cubic term and positive quartic term or (II) positive quadratic term, negative quartic term and positive higher dimensional term, such as dimensional 6 operator.
