Probing $Zt\bar{t}$ couplings using $Z$ boson polarization in $ZZ$ production at hadron colliders

We propose to utilize the polarization information of the $Z$ bosons in $ZZ$ production, via the gluon-gluon fusion process $gg\to ZZ$, to probe the $Zt\bar{t}$ gauge coupling. The contribution of longitudinally polarized $Z$ bosons is sensitive to the axial-vector component ($a_t$) of the $Zt\bar{t}$ coupling. We demonstrate that the angular distribution of the charged lepton from $Z$ boson decays serves well for measuring the polarization of $Z$ bosons and the determination of $a_t$. We show that $ZZ$ production via the $gg\to ZZ$ process complement to $Zt\bar{t}$ and $tZj$ productions in measuring the $Zt\bar{t}$ coupling at hadron colliders.

A New Observable for Measuring CP Property of Top-Higgs Interaction

We propose a new dihedral angle observable to measure the CP property of the interaction of top quark and Higgs boson in the $t\bar{t}H$ production at the 14~TeV LHC. We consider two decay modes of the Higgs boson, $H\to b\bar{b}$ and $H\to γγ$ and show that the dihedral angle distribution is able to distinguish the CP-even and the CP-odd hypothesis at 95\% confidence level with an integrated luminosity of $\sim 180~{\rm fb}^{-1}$.

Dark Matter Search at Colliders and Neutrino Floor

The sensitivity of direct detection of dark matter (DM) approaches the so-called neutrino floor below which it is hard to disentangle the DM candidate from the background neutrino. In this work we consider the scenario that no DM signals are reported in various DM direct detection experiments and explore whether the collider searches could probe the DM under the neutrino floor. We adopt several simplified models in which the DM candidate couples only to electroweak gauge bosons or leptons in the standard model through high dimensional operators. After including the RGE running effect we investigate constraints from direct detection, indirect detection and collider searches. The collider search can probe a light DM below neutrino floor. Especially, for the effective interaction of $\barχχB_{μν}B^{μν}$, current data of the mono-photon channel at the 13 TeV LHC has already covered entire parameter space of the neutrino floor.

Exploring for sub-MeV Boosted Dark Matter from Xenon Electron Direct Detection

Direct detection experiments turn to lose sensitivity of searching for a sub-MeV light dark matter candidate due to the threshold of recoil energy. However, such light dark matter particles can be accelerated by energetic cosmic-rays such that they can be detected with existing detectors. We derive the constraints on the scattering of a boosted light dark matter and electron from the XENON100/1T experiment. We illustrate that the energy dependence of the cross section plays a crucial role in improving both the detection sensitivity and also the complementarity of direct detection and other experiments.

Soft Gluon Resummation in $t$-channel single top quark production at the LHC

We present a detailed phenomenological study of the multiple soft gluon radiation for the $t$-channel single top and anti-top quark production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). By applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism, large logarithms introduced by small total transverse momentum $q_\perp$ of the single-top (anti-top) plus one-jet final state system are resummed to all orders in the expansion of the strong interaction coupling at the accuracy of Next-to-Leading Logarithm. We discuss various kinematical distributions which are sensitive to this effect and find that soft gluon radiation become more important when the final state jet is required to be in the forward region. We show that the main difference from PYTHIA prediction lies on the inclusion of the exact color coherence effect between the initial and final states in our resummation calculation. We further propose to apply the experimental observable $ϕ^*$ to test the effect of multiple gluon radiation in the single-top and anti-top events. The bottom quark mass effect and jet rapidity distribution are also discussed.

What can We Learn from Triple Top-Quark Production?

Different from other multiple top-quark productions, triple top-quark production requires the presence of both flavor violating neutral interaction and flavor conserving neutral interaction. We describe the interaction of triple top-quarks and up-quark in terms of two dimension-6 operators; one can be induced by a new heavy vector resonance, the other by a scalar resonance. Combining same-sign top-quark pair production and four top-quark production, we explore the potential of the 13 TeV LHC on searching for the triple top-quark production.

Limiting Top-Higgs Interaction and Higgs-Boson Width from Multi-Top Productions

We demonstrate that the multi-top productions efficiently probe the CP-property of top-Higgs interaction and the Higgs-boson width at the LHC. The four top-quark production alone can exclude a purely CP-odd top-quark Yukawa coupling at the 13~TeV LHC with an integrated luminosity of $430~{\rm fb}^{-1}$, regardless the size of the Yukawa coupling. Combining the single Higgs-boson production, the $t\bar{t}H$ associated production and the four top-quark production, we show that the CP-phase of the top-quark Yukawa coupling and the Higgs-boson width can be stringently bounded at the LHC with integrated luminosities of $300~{\rm fb}^{-1}$ and $3000~{\rm fb}^{-1}$.

Measuring Relic Abundance of Minimal Dark Matter at Hadron Colliders

We consider the special case that the dark matter (DM) candidate is not detected in direct-detection programs when the experimental sensitivity reaches the neutrino flux background. In such circumstance the DM searches at the colliders impose constraints on the DM relic abundance if the DM candidate is a WIMPs type. Specifically, we consider the triplet (quintet and septet) DMs in the framework of minimal DM model and explore the potential of discovering the DM candidate in the mono-jet, mono-photon and vector boson fusion channels at the Large Hadron Collider and future 100~TeV hadron collider. If the DM candidate in such a scenario is discovered at the LHC, then additional DM candidates are needed to explain the observed relic abundance. On the other hand, null results in those DM searching programs at the colliders give rise to lower limits of DM relic abundance.

Signature of Pseudo Nambu-Goldstone Higgs boson in its Decay

If the Higgs boson is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (PNGB), the $hZγ$ contact interaction induced by the $\mathcal{O}(p^4)$ invariants of the non-linear sigma model is free from its nonlinearity effects. The process $h\rightarrow Zγ$ can be used to eliminate the universal effects of heavy particles, which can fake the nonlinearity effects of the PNGB Higgs boson in the process $h\rightarrow V^*V$ ($V=W^\pm$,\ $Z$). We demonstrate that the ratio of the signal strength of $h\rightarrow Zγ$ and $h\rightarrow V^*V$ is good to distinguish the signature of the PNGB Higgs boson from Higgs coupling deviations.

Searching for weak singlet charged scalar at lepton colliders

A weak singlet charged scalar exists in many new physics models beyond the Standard Model. The discovery potential of the singlet charged scalar is explored at future lepton colliders, e.g. the CEPC, ILC-350 and ILC-500. We demonstrate that one can discover the singlet charged scalar up to 118 GeV at the CEPC with an integrated luminosity of $5~\mathrm{ab}^{-1}$. At the ILC-350 and the ILC-500 with an integrated luminosity of $1~\mathrm{ab}^{-1}$ such a discovery limit can be further improved to 136 GeV and 160 GeV, respectively.

Transverse Momentum Resummation for $t$-channel single top quark production at the LHC

We study the effect of multiple soft gluon radiation on the kinematical distributions of the $t$-channel single top quark production at the LHC. By applying the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism, large logarithms (of the ratio of large invariant mass $Q$ and small total transverse momentum $q_\perp$ of the single-top plus one-jet final state system) are resummed to all orders in the expansion of the strong interaction coupling at the accuracy of next-to-leading logarithm, including the complete next-to-leading order corrections. We show that the main difference from PYTHIA prediction lies on the inclusion of the exact color coherence effect between the initial and final states in our resummation calculation, which becomes more important when the final state jet is required to be in the forward region. We further propose a new experimental observable $ϕ^*$ to test the effect of multiple gluon radiation in the single-top events. The effect of bottom quark mass is also discussed.

Searching for Weak Singlet Charged Scalar at the Large Hadron Collider

Weak singlet charged scalar exists in many new physics models beyond the Standard Model. In this work we show that a light singlet charged scalar with mass above 65~GeV is still allowed by the LEP and LHC data. The interactions of the singlet charged scalar with the Standard Model particles are described by operators up to dimension-5. Dominant decay modes of the singlet charged scalar are obtained, and a subtlety involving field redefinition and gauge fixing due to a dimension-5 operator is also clarified. We demonstrate that it is promising to observe the singlet charged scalar at the LHC.

Testing the electroweak phase transition in scalar extension models at lepton colliders

We study the electroweak phase transition in three scalar extension models beyond the Standard Model. Assuming new scalars are decoupled at some heavy scale, we use the covariant derivative expansion method to derive all of the dimension-6 effective operators, whose coefficients are highly correlated in a specific model. We provide bounds to the complete set of dimension-6 operators by including the electroweak precision test and recent Higgs measurements. We find that the parameter space of strong first-order phase transitions (induced by the $|H|^6$ operator) can be probed extensively in $Zh$ production at future electron-positron colliders.

Double Parton Scattering of Weak Gauge Boson Productions at the 13 TeV and 100 TeV Proton-Proton Colliders

We study double parton scattering (DPS) processes involving electroweak gauge bosons at the 13 TeV and 100 TeV proton-proton colliders. Specifically, we focus on three DPS channels: $W$-boson plus two jets ($W\otimes jj$), $Z$-boson plus two jets ($Z\otimes jj$), and same-sign $W$ pair production ($W^\pm\otimes W^\pm$). We demonstrate that the $Z\otimes jj$ process, which has not been paid too much attentions, is the best channel for measuring effective cross section $σ_{\rm eff}$. The accuracy of $σ_{\rm eff}$ measurement in the three DPS channels, especially the $W^\pm\otimes W^\pm$ production, is significantly improved at the 100 TeV colliders. We advocate that combined analysis of the three DPS channels could test the universality of effective cross section $σ_{\rm eff}$.

New Class of Two-Loop Neutrino Mass Models with Distinguishable Phenomenology

We discuss a new class of neutrino mass models generated in two loops, and explore specifically three new physics scenarios: (A) doubly charged scalar, (B) dark matter, and (C) leptoquark and diquark, which are verifiable at the 14 TeV LHC Run-II. We point out how the different Higgs insertions will distinguish our two-loop topology with others if the new particles in the loop are in the simplest representations of the SM gauge group.

Measuring Trilinear Higgs Coupling in $WHH$ and $ZHH$ Productions at the HL-LHC

Determination of trilinear Higgs coupling ($λ_{HHH}=κλ_{HHH}^{\rm SM}$) through Higgs pair productions is a major motivation for the LHC high luminosity phase. We perform a detailed collider simulation to explore the potential of measuring $λ_{HHH}$ in the $VHH$ ($V=W,Z$) production at the HL-LHC. We find that the trilinear Higgs coupling in the SM ($λ_{HHH}^{\rm SM}$) could be measured at the level of $1.3σ$. Combining with the gluon fusion, vector boson fusion and $t\bar{t}HH$ channels, $λ_{HHH}^{\rm SM}$ is expected to be measured at the level of $3.13σ$. If no evidence of Higgs pair productions were observed, the $VHH$ production, together with the gluon fusion channel, would impose a bound of $0.5\leq κ\leq 2.2$ at the 95\% confidence level.

A General Analysis of Wtb anomalous Couplings

We investigate new physics effects on the Wtb effective couplings in a model-independent manner. The new physics effects are summarized as four independent couplings $f_1^L$, $f_1^R$, $f_2^L$ and $f_2^R$. Using single-top-quark productions and W-helicity fraction measurements at the LHC and Tevatron, we perform a global fit to impose constraints on top quark effective couplings. We introduce a set of parameters $x_0$, $x_m$, $x_p$ and $x_5$ to study the correlations among Wtb effective couplings. We show that (i) improving the measurements of $σ_t$ and $σ_{tW}$ is important in constraining the correlation of $(f_1^R,f_2^R)$ and $(f_2^L,f_2^R)$; (ii) $f_1^L$ and $f_2^R$ are anti-correlated, which is sensitive to all the experiments; (iii) $f_1^R$ and $f_2^L$ are also anti-correlated, which is sensitive to the W-helicity measurements; (iv) the correlation between $f_2^L$ and $f_2^R$ is sensitive to the precision of $σ_t$, $σ_{tW}$ and $F_0$ measurements. The effective Wtb couplings are studied in three kinds of new physics models: $SU(2)_1 \times SU(2)_2 \times U(1)_X$ models, vector-like quark models and Littlest Higgs model with and without T-parity. The Wtb couplings in the left-right model and the un-unified model are sensitive to the ratio of gauge couplings when the new heavy gauge boson's mass ($M_{W'}$) is less than several hundred GeV, but the constraint is loose if $M_{W'}>1$ TeV. The Wtb couplings in vector-like quark models and the Littlest Higgs models are sensitive to the mixing angles of new heavy particles and SM particles. We also include the constraints of the oblique T-parameter and Zbb couplings which impose much tighter constraints on the mixing angles. We show that the Wtb coupling constraints become relevant if the precision of single top production cross section measurements could be reduced to 1\% relative to the SM predictions in future.

Collider Phenomenology of the 3-3-1 Model

We study collider phenomenology of the so-called 331 model with $SU(3)_C\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ gauge structure at the large hadron collider, including single and double Higgs boson productions, Higgs boson rare decay, $Z^\prime$ boson production, new charged gauge boson pair production, and heavy quark pair production. We discuss all the possible collider signatures of new particle productions. Four benchmark 331 models, $β=\pm \sqrt{3}$ and $β=\pm 1/\sqrt{3}$, are studied in this work.
