Conformal invariant saturation

We show that, in onium-onium scattering at (very) high energy, a transition to saturation happens due to quantum fluctuations of QCD dipoles. This transition starts when the order $α^2$ correction of the dipole loop is compensated by its faster energy evolution, leading to a negative interference with the tree level amplitude. After a derivation of the the one-loop dipole contribution using conformal invariance of the elastic 4-gluon amplitude in high energy QCD, we obtain an exact expression of the saturation line in the plane (Y,L) where Y is the total rapidity and L, the logarithm of the onium scale ratio. It shows universal features implying the Balitskyi - Fadin - Kuraev - Lipatov (BFKL) evolution kernel and the square of the QCD triple Pomeron vertex. For large L, only the higher BFKL Eigenvalue contributes, leading to a saturation depending on leading log perturbative QCD characteristics. For initial onium scales of same order, however, it involves an unlimited summation over all conformal BFKL Eigenstates. In all cases, conformal invariance is preserved for the saturation mechanism based on dipole loops.

Reggeon exchange from AdS/CFT

Using the AdS/CFT correspondence in a confining backgroundand the worldline formalism of gauge field theories,we compute scattering amplitudes with an exchange of quark andantiquark in the $t$-channel corresponding to Reggeon exchange. Itrequires going beyond the eikonal approximation, which was used when studying Pomeron exchange. The wordline path integral is evaluated through the determination of minimal surfaces and their boundaries by the saddle-point method at large gauge coupling g^2N_c. We find a Regge behaviour with linear Regge trajectories. The slope is related to the $q\bar q$ static potential and is four times the Pomeronslope obtained in the same framework. A contribution to the intercept, related to the Lüscher term, comes from the fluctuations around the minimal surface.

Unifying approach to hard diffraction

We find a consistency between two different approaches of hard diffraction, namely the QCD dipole model and the Soft Colour Interaction approach. A theoretical interpretation in terms of S-Matrix and perturbative QCD properties in the small $x_{Bj}$ regime is proposed.

Inclusive Higgs boson and dijet production via Double Pomeron exchange

We evaluate Higgs boson and dijet cross-sections at the Tevatron collider via Double Pomeron exchange when accompanying particles in the central region are taken into account. Such {\it inclusive} processes, normalized to the observed dijet rate observed at run I, noticeably increase the predictions for tagged (anti)protons in the run II with respect to {\it exclusive} ones, with the potentiality of Higgs boson detection.

Unified approach to hard diffraction

Using a combination of S-Matrix and perturbative QCD properties in the small x_{Bj} regime, we propose a formulation of hard diffraction unifying the partonic (Ingelman-Schlein) Pomeron, Soft Colour Interaction and QCD dipole descriptions.

Unified QCD picture of hard diffraction

Using a combination of S-Matrix and perturbative QCD properties in the small x_{Bjorken} regime, we propose a formulation of hard diffraction unifying the partonic (Ingelman-Schlein) Pomeron, Soft Colour Interaction and QCD dipole descriptions. In particular, we show that all three approaches give an unique and mutually compatible formula for the proton diffractive structure functions incorporating perturbative and non perturbative QCD features.

Virtual photon impact factors with exact gluon kinematic

An explicit analytic formula for the transverse and longitudinal impact factors S_{T,L}(N,γ) of the photon using k_T factorization with exact gluon kinematics is given. Applications to the QCD dipole model and the extraction of the unintegrated gluon structure function from data are proposed.

Factorial correlators: angular scaling within QCD jets

Factorial correlators measure the amount of dynamical correlation in multiplicity between two separated phase-space windows. We present the analytical derivation of factorial correlators for a QCD jet described at the double logarithmic (DL) accuracy. We obtain a new angular scaling property for properly normalized correlators between two solid-angle cells or two rings around the jet axis. Normalized QCD factorial correlators scale with the angular distance and are independent of the window size. Scaling violations are expected beyond DL approximation, in particular from the subjet structure. Experimental tests are feasible, and thus welcome.

QCD analysis of the diffractive structure function F_2^{D(3)}

The proton diffractive structure function $F_2^{D(3)}$ measured in the H1 and ZEUS experiments at HERA is analyzed in terms of both Regge phenomenology and perturbative QCD evolution. A new method determines the values of the Regge intercepts in ``hard'' diffraction, confirming a higher value of the Pomeron intercept than for soft physics. The data are well described by a QCD analysis in which point-like parton distributions, evolving according to the DGLAP equations, are assigned to the leading and sub-leading Regge exchanges. The gluon distributions are found to be quite different for H1 and ZEUS. A {\it global fit} analysis, where a higher twist component is taken from models, allows us to use data in the whole available range in diffractive mass and gives a stable answer for the leading twist contribution. We give sets of quark and gluon parton distributions for the Pomeron, and predictions for the charm and the longitudinal proton diffractive structure function from the QCD fit. An extrapolation to the Tevatron range is compared with CDF data on single diffraction. Conclusions on factorization breaking depend critically whether H1 (strong violation) or ZEUS (compatibility at low $β$) fits are taken into account.

QCD dipole model and k_T factorization

It is shown that the colour dipole approach to hard scattering at high energy is fully compatible with k_T factorization at the leading logarithm approximation (in -log x_Bj). The relations between the dipole amplitudes and unintegrated diagonal and non-diagonal gluon distributions are given. It is also shown that including the exact gluon kinematics in the k_T factorization formula destroys the conservation of transverse position vectors and thus is incompatible with the dipole model for both elastic and diffractive amplitudes.

Minimal surfaces and Reggeization in the AdS/CFT correspondence

We address the problem of computing scattering amplitudes related to the correlation function of two Wilson lines and/or loops elongated along light-cone directions in strongly coupled gauge theories. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence in the classical approximation, the amplitudes are shown to be related to minimal surfaces generalizing the {\em helicoid} in various $AdS_5$ backgrounds. Infra-red divergences appearing for Wilson lines can be factorized out or can be cured by considering the IR finite case of correlation functions of two Wilson loops. In non-conformal cases related to confining theories, reggeized amplitudes with linear trajectories and unit intercept are obtained and shown to come from the approximately flat metrics near the horizon, which sets the scale for the Regge slope. In the conformal case the absence of confinement leads to a different solution. A transition between both regimes appears, in a confining theory, when varying impact parameter.

High Energy Scattering from the $AdS/CFT$ Correspondence

We apply the AdS/CFT correspondence to derive expressions for the scattering amplitudes at high energy for gauge theories at strong coupling. A method is proposed based on the computation of correlators of Wilson loop operators by their stringy duals in AdS spaces using either the supergravity (weak field) or classical (minimal surface) approximations.

Pomeron intercepts at colliders

A method allowing for a direct comparison of data with theoretical predictions is proposed for forward jet production at HERA and Mueller-Navelet jets at Tevatron and LHC. An application to the determination of the effective Pomeron intercept in the BFKL-LO parametrization from d sigma/dx data at HERA leads to a good fit with a significantly higher effective intercept, $α_P= 1.43 \pm 0.025 (stat.) \pm 0.025 (syst.),$ than for proton (total and diffractive) structure functions. It is however less than the value of the pomeron intercept using dijets with large rapidity intervals obtained at Tevatron. We also evaluate the rapidity veto contribution to the higher order BFKL corrections. We suggest to measure the dependence of the dijet cross-sections as a function of the jet transverse energies as a signal for BFKL pomeron at LHC.

A new determination of the Pomeron intercept in hard processes

A method allowing for a direct comparison of data with theoretical predictions is proposed for forward jet production at HERA. It avoids the reconstruction of multi-parton contributions by expressing the experimental data directly as correction factors on the QCD forward jet cross-section. An application to the determination of the effective Pomeron intercept in the BFKL-LO parametrization from dsigma/dx data at HERA leads to a good fit with a significantly higher effective intercept, alpha_P = 1.43 \pm 0.025(stat.) \pm >.025(syst.), than for proton (total and diffractive) structure functions. It is however less than the value of the Pomeron intercept using dijets with large rapidity intervals obtained at Tevatron. We also evaluate the rapidity veto contribution to the higher order BFKL corrections. The method can be extended to other theoretical inputs.

Hard jet probes in terms of colorless QCD dipoles

the forward jet playing the role of a hard probe is analyzed in terms of QCD dipole (color-singlet q\bar q) configurations in the transverse position space. There are sizable differences with the analogous q\bar q configurations of a hard photon which may lead to significant phenomenological consequences on the analysis of hard processes using a forward jet probe, e.g. at the Tevatron. A geometrical interpretation of the resulting distribution in terms of black disk diffraction is proposed.

On the QCD dipole content of hard photon and gluon probes

A gluon forward jet playing the role of a deep probe in high energy scattering, we analyze its infinite momentum QCD wave function in terms of dipole (color-singlet quark-antiquark) configurations using k_T-factorization properties. The comparison is made with virtual photon quark-antiquark configurations. Some implications for hard processes with forward jets at Hera and Tevatron are suggested.

High energy scattering and the AdS/CFT correspondence

We consider small angle and large impact parameter high energy scattering of colourless states in SYM using the AdS/CFT correspondence. The gauge theory scattering amplitude is linked with a correlation function of tilted Wilson loops, which can be calculated by the exchange of bulk supergravity fields between the two corresponding string worldsheets. We identify the dominant contributions, which all correspond to real phase shifts. In particular, we find a contribution of the bulk graviton which gives an unexpected `gravity-like' $s^1$ behaviour of the gauge theory phase shift in a specific range of energies and (large) impact parameters.

Conformal couplings and ``azimuthal matching'' of QCD Pomerons

Using the asymptotic conformal invariance of perturbative QCD we derive the expression of the coupling of external states to all conformal spin-p components of the forward elastic amplitude. Using the wave-function formalism for structure functions at small x, we derive the perturbative coupling of the virtual photon for p= 1, which is maximal for linear transverse polarization. The non-perturbative coupling to the proton is discussed in terms of ``azimuthal matching'' between the proton color dipoles and the quark- antiquark configurations of the photon. As an application, the recent conjecture of a second QCD Pomeron related to the conformal spin-1 component is shown to rely upon a strong azimuthal matching of the p= 1 component in gamma* -proton scattering.
