Optical solitons in near $\mathcal{PT}-$symmetric Rosen-Morse potential

We investigate the existence of stable soliton solution in a system described by complex Ginzburg-Landau (CGL) equation with near parity reflection - time reversal ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetric Rosen-Morse potential. In this study, the stability of solution is examined by numerical analysis to show that solitons are stable for some parameter ranges. The dynamical properties such as evolution and transverse energy flow for both self-focusing and self-defocusing nonlinear mode are also analyzed. The obtained results are useful for experimental designs and applications in related fields.

Dynamics of measurement induced nonlocality under decoherence

Measurement Induced Nonlocality (MIN) captures nonlocal effects of a quantum state due to local von Neumann projective measurements, is a bonafide measure of quantum correlation between constituents of a composite system. In this paper, we study the dynamical behavior of entanglement (measured by concurrence), Hilber-Schmidt MIN and fidelity based MIN (FMIN) under local noisy channels such as hybrid (consists of bit, phase, bit and phase flip), generalized amplitude damping (GAD) and depolarizing channels for the initial Bell diagonal state. We observed that while sudden death of entanglement occur in hybrid and GAD channels, MIN and FMIN are more robust against such noise. Finally, we demonstrate the revival of MIN and FMIN after a dark point of time against depolarizing noise.

Fidelity based Measurement Induced Nonlocality over two-sided measurements

In this paper, we introduce quantum fidelity based measurement induced nonlocality for the bipartite state over two-sided von Neumann projective measurements. While all the properties of this quantity are reflected from that of one-sided measurement, the latter one is shown to set an upper bound for arbitrary bipartite state. As an illustration, we have studied the nonlocality of Bell diagonal state.

Dynamics of X-state in anisotropic Heisenberg spin with magnetic field

We study the dynamics of X-state for anisotropic Heisenberg spin system using quantum fidelity. It is shown that while Bell diagonal state, a special class of X-state, is stationary, there exists a set of two parametric states which are stationary in presence of external uniform magnetic field.

Fidelity based Measurement Induced Nonlocality and its dynamics in Quantum noisy channels

Measurement induced nonlocality (MIN) captures global nonlocal effect of bipartite quantum state due to locally invariant projective measurements. In this paper, we propose a new version of MIN using fidelity induced metric, andthe same is calculated for pure and mixed states. For mixed state, the upper bound is obtained from eigenvalues of correlation matrix. Further, dynamics of MIN and fidelity based MIN under various noisy quantum channels show that they are more robust than entanglement.

Nonlocal Correlation in Heisenberg Spin Models

In this paper we investigate the nonlocal correlation (beyond entanglement) captured by measurement induced nonlocality and geometric quantum discord for a pair of interacting spin-1/2 particles at thermal equilibrium. It is shown that both the measures are identical in measuring the correlation. We show the possibility of nonlocal correlation between the spins without entanglement, which ceases to exist only for the maximal mixture of product bases. We also observe that while interaction between the spins is responsible for the enhancement of correlation, this non-classicality decreases with the intervention of external magnetic field.

Operator-Schmidt decomposition and the geometrical edges of two-qubit gates

Nonlocal two-qubit quantum gates are represented by canonical decomposition or equivalently by operator-Schmidt decomposition. The former decomposition results in geometrical representation such that all the two-qubit gates form tetrahedron within which perfect entanglers form a polyhedron. On the other hand, it is known from the later decomposition that Schmidt number of nonlocal gates can be either 2 or 4. In this work, some aspects of later decomposition are investigated. It is shown that two gates differing by local operations possess same set of Schmidt coefficients. Employing geometrical method, it is established that Schmidt number 2 corresponds to controlled unitary gates. Further, all the edges of tetrahedron and polyhedron are characterized using Schmidt strength, a measure of operator entanglement. It is found that one edge of the tetrahedron possesses the maximum Schmidt strength, implying that all the gates in the edge are maximally entangled.

Measures of operator entanglement of two-qubit gates

Two different measures of operator entanglement of two-qubit gates, namely, Schmidt strength and linear entropy, are studied. While these measures are shown to have one-to-one relation between them for Schmidt number 2 class of gates, no such relation exists for Schmidt number 4 class, implying that the measures are inequivalent in general. Further, we establish a simple relation between linear entropy and local invariants of two-qubit gates. The implication of the relation is discussed.

Characterizing the geometrical edges of nonlocal two-qubit gates

Nonlocal two-qubit gates are geometrically represented by tetrahedron known as Weyl chamber within which perfect entanglers form a polyhedron. We identify that all edges of the Weyl chamber and polyhedron are formed by single parametric gates. Nonlocal attributes of these edges are characterized using entangling power and local invariants. In particular, SWAP (power)alpha family of gates constitutes one edge of the Weyl chamber with SWAP-1/2 being the only perfect entangler. Finally, optimal constructions of controlled-NOT using SWAP-1/2 gate and gates belong to three edges of the polyhedron are presented.

Entangling characterization of (SWAP)1/m and Controlled unitary gates

We study the entangling power and perfect entangler nature of (SWAP)1/m, for m>=1, and controlled unitary (CU) gates. It is shown that (SWAP)1/2 is the only perfect entangler in the family. On the other hand, a subset of CU which is locally equivalent to CNOT is identified. It is shown that the subset, which is a perfect entangler, must necessarily possess the maximum entangling power.

Quantum dynamical echo in two-level systems

Evolution of quantum fidelity for two-level systems is studied in the context of periodic echo. From a general treatment for time independent case, we obtain a simple condition on the governing Hamiltonians under which the systems display periodic quantum echo. For a specific time dependent problem the quantum fidelity is shown to exhibit Rabi oscillation. This may be considered as a simple mechanism to generate periodic echo, except for a specific initial superpositional state in which case the fidelity remains invariant.

Accelerator modes of square well system

We study accelerator modes of a particle, confined in an one-dimensional infinite square well potential, subjected to a time-periodic pulsed field. Dynamics of such a particle can be described by one generalization of the kicked rotor. In comparison with the kicked rotor, this generalization is shown to have a much larger parametric space for existence of the modes. Using this freedom we provide evidence that accelerator mode assisted anomalous transport is greatly enhanced when low order resonances are exposed at the border of chaos. We also present signature of the enhanced transport in the quantum domain.

Nodal domain distribution of rectangular drums

We consider the sequence of nodal counts for eigenfunctions of the Laplace-Beltrami operator in two dimensional domains. It was conjectured recently that this sequence stores some information pertaining to the geometry of the domain, and we show explicitly that this is the case for the family of rectangular domains with Dirichlet boundary conditions.

Level velocity statistics of hyperbolic chaos

A generalized version of standard map is quantized as a model of quantum chaos. It is shown that, in hyperbolic chaotic regime, second moment of quantum level velocity is $\sim 1/\hbar$ as predicted by the random matrix theory.

Recurrence of fidelity in near integrable systems

Within the framework of simple perturbation theory, recurrence time of quantum fidelity is related to the period of the classical motion. This indicates the possibility of recurrence in near integrable systems. We have studied such possibility in detail with the kicked rotor as an example. In accordance with the correspondence principle, recurrence is observed when the underlying classical dynamics is well approximated by the harmonic oscillator. Quantum revivals of fidelity is noted in the interior of resonances, while classical-quantum correspondence of fidelity is seen to be very short for states initially in the rotational KAM region.

Quantum Chaos of a particle in a square well : Competing Length Scales and Dynamical Localization

The classical and quantum dynamics of a particle trapped in a one-dimensional infinite square well with a time periodic pulsed field is investigated. This is a two-parameter non-KAM generalization of the kicked rotor, which can be seen as the standard map of particles subjected to both smooth and hard potentials. The virtue of the generalization lies in the introduction of an extra parameter R which is the ratio of two length scales, namely the well width and the field wavelength. If R is a non-integer the dynamics is discontinuous and non-KAM. We have explored the role of R in controlling the localization properties of the eigenstates. In particular the connection between classical diffusion and localization is found to generalize reasonably well. In unbounded chaotic systems such as these, while the nearest neighbour spacing distribution of the eigenvalues is less sensitive to the nature of the classical dynamics, the distribution of participation ratios of the eigenstates proves to be a sensitive measure; in the chaotic regimes the latter being lognormal. We find that the tails of the well converged localized states are exponentially localized despite the discontinuous dynamics while the bulk part shows fluctuations that tend to be closer to Random Matrix Theory predictions. Time evolving states show considerable R dependence and tuning R to enhance classical diffusion can lead to significantly larger quantum diffusion for the same field strengths, an effect that is potentially observable in present day experiments.

Chaos in a well : Effects of competing length scales

A discontinuous generalization of the standard map, which arises naturally as the dynamics of a periodically kicked particle in a one dimensional infinite square well potential, is examined. Existence of competing length scales, namely the width of the well and the wavelength of the external field, introduce novel dynamical behaviour. Deterministic chaos induced diffusion is observed for weak field strengths as the length scales do not match. This is related to an abrupt breakdown of rotationally invariant curves and in particular KAM tori. An approximate stability theory is derived wherein the usual standard map is a point of ``bifurcation''.
