Connecting anomaly and tunneling methods for Hawking effect through chirality

The role of chirality is discussed in unifying the anomaly and the tunneling formalisms for deriving the Hawking effect. Using the chirality condition and starting from the familiar form of the trace anomaly, the chiral (gravitational) anomaly, manifested as a nonconservation of the stress tensor, near the horizon of a black hole, is derived. Solution of this equation yields the stress tensor whose asymptotic infinity limit gives the Hawking flux. Finally, use of the same chirality condition in the tunneling formalism gives the Hawking temperature that is compatible with the flux obtained by anomaly method.

Corrections to Unruh effect in tunneling formalism and mapping with Hawking effect

We consider coordinate systems adapted to accelerated observers, construct a generalised Rindler metric and then adopt a specific form of it to compute the semiclassical Unruh temperature, using a WKB approximation within a Hamilton Jacobi analysis in the tunneling picture. Corrections to this temperature are next computed by going beyond the usual WKB approximation. A connection of the corrected Unruh temperature with the Hawking temperature is established. This connection is also explained through the method of Global Embedding Minkowski Spacetime (GEMS).

Hawking radiation and near horizon universality of chiral Virasoro algebra

We show that the diffeomorphism anomaly together with the trace anomaly reveal a chiral Virasoro algebra near the event horizon of a black hole. This algebra is the same irrespective of whether the anomaly is covariant or consistent, thereby manifesting its universal character and the fact that only the outgoing modes are relevant near the horizon. Our analysis therefore clarifies the role of the trace anomaly in the diffeomorphism anomaly approach \cite{wilczek, isowilczek, shailesh, shailesh2, sunandan, sunandan10, rabin10} to the Hawking radiation.

Covariant Anomalies, Horizons and Hawking Radiation

Hawking radiation is obtained from anomalies resulting from a breaking of diffeomorphism symmetry near the event horizon of a black hole. Such anomalies, manifested as a nonconservation of the energy momentum tensor, occur in two different forms -- covariant and consistent. The crucial role of covariant anomalies near the horizon is revealed since this is the {\it only} input required to obtain the Hawking flux, thereby highlighting the universality of this effect. A brief description to apply this method to obtain thermodynamic entities like entropy or temperature is provided.

Quantum Tunneling Beyond Semiclassical Approximation

Hawking radiation as tunneling by Hamilton-Jacobi method beyond semiclassical approximation is analysed. We compute all quantum corrections in the single particle action revealing that these are proportional to the usual semiclassical contribution. We show that a simple choice of the proportionality constants reproduces the one loop back reaction effect in the spacetime, found by conformal field theory methods, which modifies the Hawking temperature of the black hole. Using the law of black hole mechanics we give the corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law following from the modified Hawking temperature. Some examples are explicitly worked out.

Noncommutative Black Hole Thermodynamics

We give a general derivation, for any static spherically symmetric metric, of the relation $T_h=\frac{\cal K}{2π}$ connecting the black hole temperature ($T_h$) with the surface gravity ($\cal K$), following the tunneling interpretation of Hawking radiation. This derivation is valid even beyond the semi classical regime i. e. when quantum effects are not negligible. The formalism is then applied to a spherically symmetric, stationary noncommutative Schwarzschild space time. The effects of back reaction are also included. For such a black hole the Hawking temperature is computed in a closed form. A graphical analysis reveals interesting features regarding the variation of the Hawking temperature (including corrections due to noncommutativity and back reaction) with the small radius of the black hole. The entropy and tunneling rate valid for the leading order in the noncommutative parameter are calculated. We also show that the noncommutative Bekenstein-Hawking area law has the same functional form as the usual one.

Quantum Tunneling and Back Reaction

We give a correction to the tunneling probability by taking into account the back reaction effect to the metric of the black hole spacetime. We then show how this gives rise to the modifications in the semiclassical black hole entropy and Hawking temperature. Finally, we reproduce the familiar logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law.

Hawking Radiation, Effective Actions and Covariant Boundary Conditions

From appropriate expressions for effective actions, the Hawking radiation from charged black holes is derived, using only covariant boundary conditions at the event horizon. The connection of our approach with the Unruh vacuum and the recent analysis \cite{Robwilczek,Isowilczek,shailesh} of Hawking radiation using anomalies is established.

Hawking Radiation and Covariant Anomalies

Generalising the method of Wilczek and collaborators we provide a derivation of Hawking radiation from charged black holes using only covariant gauge and gravitational anomalies. The reliability and universality of the anomaly cancellation approach to Hawking radiation is also discussed.

Three dimensional noncommutative bosonization

We consider the extension of the 2+1-dimensional bosonization process in Non-Commutative (NC) spacetime. We show that the large mass limit of the effective action obtained by integrating out the fermionic fields in NC spacetime leads to the NC Chern-Simons action. The present result is valid to all orders in the noncommutative parameter $θ$. We also discuss how the NC Yang-Mills action is induced in the next to leading order.

Gauge Theories on A(dS) space and Killing Vectors

We provide a general technique for collectively analysing a manifestly covariant formulation of non-abelian gauge theories on both anti de Sitter as well as de Sitter spaces. This is done by stereographically projecting the corresponding theories, defined on a flat Minkowski space, onto the surface of the A(dS) hyperboloid. The gauge and matter fields in the two descriptions are mapped by conformal Killing vectors and conformal Killing spinors, respectively. A bilinear map connecting the spinors with the vector is established. Different forms of gauge fixing conditions and their equivalence are discussed. The U(1) axial anomaly as well as the non-abelian covariant and consistent chiral anomalies on A(dS) space are obtained. Electric-magnetic duality is demonstrated. The zero curvature limit is shown to yield consistent findings.

Lie algebraic Noncommutative Gravity

We exploit the Seiberg -- Witten map technique to formulate the theory of gravity defined on a Lie algebraic noncommutative space time. Detailed expressions of the Seiberg -- Witten maps for the gauge parameters, gauge potentials and the field strengths have been worked out. Our results demonstrate that notwithstanding the introduction of more general noncommutative structure there is no first order correction, exactly as happens for a canonical (i.e. constant) noncommutativity.

Gauge Generators, Transformations and Identities on a Noncommutative Space

By abstracting a connection between gauge symmetry and gauge identity on a noncommutative space, we analyse star (deformed) gauge transformations with usual Leibnitz rule as well as undeformed gauge transformations with a twisted Leibnitz rule. Explicit structures of the gauge generators in either case are computed. It is shown that, in the former case, the relation mapping the generator with the gauge identity is a star deformation of the commutative space result. In the latter case, on the other hand, this result gets twisted to yield the desired map.

Deformed relativistic and nonrelativistic symmetries on canonical noncommutative spaces

We study the general deformed conformal-Poincare (Galilean) symmetries consistent with relativistic (nonrelativistic) canonical noncommutative spaces. In either case we obtain deformed generators, containing arbitrary free parameters, which close to yield new algebraic structures. We show that a particular choice of these parameters reproduces the undeformed algebra. The modified coproduct rules and the associated Hopf algebra are also obtained. Finally, we show that for the choice of parameters leading to the undeformed algebra, the deformations are represented by twist functions.

Remarks on the Generalized Chaplygin Gas

We have developed an action formulation for the Generalized Chaplygin Gas (GCG). The most general form for the nonrelativistic GCG action is derived consistent with the equation of state. We have also discussed a relativistic formulation for GCG by providing a detailed analysis of the Poincare algebra.

Gauge Symmetries on $θ$-Deformed Spaces

A Hamiltonian formulation of gauge symmetries on noncommutative ($θ$ deformed) spaces is discussed. Both cases- star deformed gauge transformation with normal coproduct and undeformed gauge transformation with twisted coproduct- are considered. While the structure of the gauge generator is identical in either case, there is a difference in the computation of the graded Poisson brackets that yield the gauge transformations. Our analysis provides a novel interpretation of the twisted coproduct for gauge transformations.

Gauge Theories on de Sitter space and Killing Vectors

We provide a general method for studying a manifestly covariant formulation of $p$-form gauge theories on the de Sitter space. This is done by stereographically projecting the corresponding theories, defined on flat Minkowski space, onto the surface of a de Sitter hyperboloid. The gauge fields in the two descriptions are mapped by conformal Killing vectors allowing for a very transparent analysis and compact presentation of results. As applications, the axial anomaly is computed and the electric-magnetic duality is exhibited. Finally, the zero curvature limit is shown to yield consistent results.

Remarks on the Noncommutative Gravitational Quantum Well

A planar phase space having both position and momentum noncommutativity is defined in a more inclusive setting than that considered elsewhere. The dynamics of a particle in a gravitational quantum well in this space is studied. The use of the WKB approximation and the virial theorem enable analytic discussions on the effect of noncommutativity. Consistent results are obtained following either commutative space or noncommutative space descriptions. Comparison with recent experimental data with cold neutrons at Grenoble imposes an upper bound on the noncommutative parameter. Also, our results are compared with a recent numerical analysis of a similar problem.
