Relating Jack wavefunctions to WA_{k-1} theories

The (k,r)-admissible Jack polynomials, recently proposed as many-body wavefunctions for non-Abelian fractional quantum Hall systems, have been conjectured to be related to some correlation functions of the minimal model WA_{k-1}(k+1,k+r) of the WA_{k-1} algebra. By studying the degenerate representations of the WA_{k-1}(k+1,k+r) theory, we provide a proof for this conjecture.

Geometrical properties of parafermionic spin models

We present measurements of the fractal dimensions associated to the geometrical clusters for Z_4 and Z_5 spin models. We also attempted to measure similar fractal dimensions for the generalised Fortuyin Kastelyn (FK) clusters in these models but we discovered that these clusters do not percolate at the critical point of the model under consideration. These results clearly mark a difference in the behaviour of these non local objects compared to the Ising model or the 3-state Potts model which corresponds to the simplest cases of Z_N spin models with N=2 and N=3 respectively. We compare these fractal dimensions with the ones obtained for SLE interfaces.

Off-diagonal correlations in one-dimensional anyonic models: A replica approach

We propose a generalization of the replica trick that allows to calculate the large distance asymptotic of off-diagonal correlation functions in anyonic models with a proper factorizable ground-state wave-function. We apply this new method to the exact determination of all the harmonic terms of the correlations of a gas of impenetrable anyons and to the Calogero Sutherland model. Our findings are checked against available analytic and numerical results.

Critical interfaces in the random-bond Potts model

We study geometrical properties of interfaces in the random-temperature q-states Potts model as an example of a conformal field theory weakly perturbed by quenched disorder. Using conformal perturbation theory in q-2 we compute the fractal dimension of Fortuin Kasteleyn domain walls. We also compute it numerically both via the Wolff cluster algorithm for q=3 and via transfer-matrix evaluations. We obtain numerical results for the fractal dimension of spin cluster interfaces for q=3. These are found numerically consistent with the duality kappa(spin) * kappa(FK)= 16 as expressed in putative SLE parameters.

Numerical study on Schramm-Loewner Evolution in nonminimal conformal field theories

The Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) is a powerful tool to describe fractal interfaces in 2D critical statistical systems. Yet the application of SLE is well established for statistical systems described by quantum field theories satisfying only conformal invariance, the so called minimal conformal field theories (CFTs). We consider interfaces in Z(N) spin models at their self-dual critical point for N=4 and N=5. These lattice models are described in the continuum limit by non-minimal CFTs where the role of a Z_N symmetry, in addition to the conformal one, should be taken into account. We provide numerical results on the fractal dimension of the interfaces which are SLE candidates for non-minimal CFTs. Our results are in excellent agreement with some recent theoretical predictions.

One-particle density matrix and momentum distribution function of one-dimensional anyon gases

We present a systematic study of the Green functions of a one-dimensional gas of impenetrable anyons. We show that the one-particle density matrix is the determinant of a Toeplitz matrix whose large N asymptotic is given by the Fisher-Hartwig conjecture. We provide a careful numerical analysis of this determinant for general values of the anyonic parameter, showing in full details the crossover between bosons and fermions and the reorganization of the singularities of the momentum distribution function. We show that the one-particle density matrix satisfies a Painleve VI differential equation, that is then used to derive the small distance and large momentum expansions. We find that the first non-vanishing term in this expansion is always k^{-4}, that is proved to be true for all couplings in the Lieb-Liniger anyonic gas and that can be traced back to the presence of a delta function interaction in the Hamiltonian.

SLE in self-dual critical Z(N) spin systems: CFT predictions

The Schramm-Loewner evolution (SLE) describes the continuum limit of domain walls at phase transitions in two dimensional statistical systems. We consider here the SLEs in the self-dual Z(N) spin models at the critical point. For N=2 and N=3 these models correspond to the Ising and three-state Potts model. For N>5 the critical self-dual Z(N) spin models are described in the continuum limit by non-minimal conformal field theories with central charge c>=1. By studying the representations of the corresponding chiral algebra, we show that two particular operators satisfy a two level null vector condition which, for N>=4, presents an additional term coming from the extra symmetry currents action. For N=2,3 these operators correspond to the boundary conditions changing operators associated to the SLE_{16/3} (Ising model) and to the SLE_{24/5} and SLE_{10/3} (three-state Potts model). We suggest a definition of the interfaces within the Z(N) lattice models. The scaling limit of these interfaces is expected to be described at the self-dual critical point and for N>=4 by the SLE_{4(N+1)/(N+2)} and SLE_{4(N+2)/(N+1)} processes.

Entanglement properties and moment distributions of a system of hard-core anyons on a ring

We study the one-particle von Neumann entropy of a system of N hard-core anyons on a ring. The entropy is found to have a clear dependence on the anyonic parameter which characterizes the generalized fractional statistics described by the anyons. This confirms the entanglement as a valuable measure to investigate topological properties of quantum states. Furthermore, we determine analytically the large N asymptotics of the anyonic one-particle density matrix. The formula presented here generalizes the Lenard formula obtained for a system of N hard-core bosons. Finally, we present a numerical analysis which confirms the analytical results and provides additional insight into the problem under consideration.

Universal width distributions in non-Markovian Gaussian processes

We study the influence of boundary conditions on self-affine random functions u(t) in the interval t/L \in [0,1], with independent Gaussian Fourier modes of variance ~ 1/q^α. We consider the probability distribution of the mean square width of u(t) taken over the whole interval or in a window t/L \in [x, x+δ]. Its characteristic function can be expressed in terms of the spectrum of an infinite matrix. This distribution strongly depends on the boundary conditions of u(t) for finite δ, but we show that it is universal (independent of boundary conditions) in the small-window limit. We compute it directly for all values of α, using, for α<3, an asymptotic expansion formula that we derive. For α> 3, the limiting width distribution is independent of α. It corresponds to an infinite matrix with a single non-zero eigenvalue. We give the exact expression for the width distribution in this case. Our analysis facilitates the estimation of the roughness exponent from experimental data, in cases where the standard extrapolation method cannot be used

Increasing of entanglement entropy from pure to random quantum critical chains

It is known that the entropy of a block of spins of size $L$ embedded in an infinite pure critical spin chain diverges as the logarithm of $L$ with a prefactor fixed by the central charge of the corresponding conformal field theory. For a class of strongly random spin chains, it has been shown that the correspondent block entropy still remains universal and diverges logarithmically with an "effective" central charge. By computing the entanglement entropy for a family of models which includes the $N$-states random Potts chain and the $Z_N$ clock model, we give some definitive answer to some recent conjectures about the behaviour of the effective central charge. In particular, we show that the ratio between the entanglement entropy in the pure and in the disordered system is model dependent and we provide a series of critical models where the entanglement entropy grows from the pure to the random case.

Supersymmetric Model of Spin-1/2 Fermions on a Chain

In recent work, N=2 supersymmetry has been proposed as a tool for the analysis of itinerant, correlated fermions on a lattice. In this paper we extend these considerations to the case of lattice fermions with spin 1/2 . We introduce a model for correlated spin-1/2 fermions with a manifest N=4 supersymmetry, and analyze its properties. The supersymmetric ground states that we find represent holes in an anti-ferromagnetic background.

Geometry of Gaussian signals

We consider Gaussian signals, i.e. random functions $u(t)$ ($t/L \in [0,1]$) with independent Gaussian Fourier modes of variance $\sim 1/q^α$, and compute their statistical properties in small windows $[x, x+δ]$. We determine moments of the probability distribution of the mean square width of $u(t)$ in powers of the window size $δ$. We show that the moments, in the small-window limit $δ\ll 1$, become universal, whereas they strongly depend on the boundary conditions of $u(t)$ for larger $δ$. For $α> 3$, the probability distribution is computed in the small-window limit and shown to be independent of $α$.

Parafermionic theory with the symmetry Z_N, for N even

Following our previous papers (hep-th/0212158 and hep-th/0303126) we complete the construction of the parafermionic theory with the symmetry Z_N based on the second solution of Fateev-Zamolodchikov for the corresponding parafermionic chiral algebra. In the present paper we construct the Z_N parafermionic theory for N even. Primary operators are classified according to their transformation properties under the dihedral group (Z_N x Z_2, where Z_2 stands for the Z_N charge conjugation), as two singlets, doublet 1,2,...,N/2-1, and a disorder operator. In an assumed Coulomb gas scenario, the corresponding vertex operators are accommodated by the Kac table based on the weight lattice of the Lie algebra D_{N/2}. The unitary theories are representations of the coset SO_n(N) x SO_2(N) / SO_{n+2}(N), with n=1,2,.... We suggest that physically they realise the series of multicritical points in statistical systems having a Z_N symmetry.

Conformal field theories with Z_N and Lie algebra symmetries

We construct two-dimensional conformal field theories with a Z_N symmetry, based on the second solution of Fateev-Zamolodchikov for the parafermionic chiral algebra. Primary operators are classified according to their transformation properties under the dihedral group (Z_N x Z_2, where Z_2 stands for the Z_N charge conjugation), as singlets, [(N-1)/2] different doublets, and a disorder operator. In an assumed Coulomb gas scenario, the corresponding vertex operators are accommodated by the Kac table based on the weight lattice of the Lie algebra B_{(N-1)/2} when N is odd, and D_{N/2} when N is even. The unitary theories are representations of the coset SO_n(N) x SO_2(N) / SO_{n+2}(N), with n=1,2,.... We suggest that physically they realize the series of multicritical points in statistical systems having a Z_N symmetry.

Parafermionic theory with the symmetry Z_N, for N odd

We construct a parafermionic conformal theory with the symmetry Z_N, for N odd, based on the second solution of Fateev-Zamolodchikov for the corresponding parafermionic chiral algebra. Primary operators are classified according to their transformation properties under the dihedral group D_N, as singlet, doublet 1,2,...,(N-1)/2, and disorder operators. In an assumed Coulomb gas scenario, the corresponding vertex operators are accommodated by the weight lattice of the Lie algebra B_(N-1)/2. The unitary theories are representations of the coset SO_n(N) x SO_2(N) / SO_{n+2}(N), with n=1,2,... . Physically, they realise the series of multicritical points in statistical theories having a D_N symmetry.

Parafermionic theory with the symmetry Z_5

A parafermionic conformal theory with the symmetry Z_5 is constructed, based on the second solution of Fateev-Zamolodchikov for the corresponding parafermionic chiral algebra. The primary operators of the theory, which are the singlet, doublet 1, doublet 2, and disorder operators, are found to be accommodated by the weight lattice of the classical Lie algebra B_2. The finite Kac tables for unitary theories are defined and the formula for the conformal dimensions of primary operators is given.
