Spatiotemporal Tube-Based Safety-Certificate for Autonomous Navigation of Articulated Vehicles

Articulated vehicles are the workhorses of freight transportation, and their autonomous navigation is challenging. Their physical characteristics and motion constraints pose significant challenges in manoeuvring these vehicles on narrow routes. This paper presents a spatiotemporal tube-based approach to plan autonomous navigation of vehicles like tractor semi-trailers, truck/ tractor trailers, towing Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), and road trains. This planning approach provides a certified path plan for the truck or tractor, ensuring that the towed series of trailers always remains within the road corridor, limited by permissible corrections. The planning leverages the kinematics of the linked elements along with sway constraints to arrive at a safe tube for the actuated prime mover. We modify the spatiotemporal tube using permissible corrections to provide a route safety certificate to the vehicle for the given route. The proposed planning method is verified on a truck-trailer navigation simulation for a complex route.

Closed-Loop Control Law for Low Thrust Orbit Transfer with Guaranteed Stability

Electric propulsion is used to maximize payload capacity in communication satellites. These orbit raising maneuvers span several months and hundreds of revolutions, making trajectory design a complex challenge. The literature typically addresses this problem using feedback laws, with Q-law being one of the most prominent approaches. However, Q-law suffers from closed-loop stability issues, limiting its suitability for real-time on-board implementation. In this work, we focus on closed-loop orbit raising rather than offline trajectory planning and address the stability limitations of the Q-law through a Lyapunov based control design. A Lyapunov-guided modification of the classical Q-law is proposed to ensure closed-loop stability and enable real-time implementation. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated through closed-loop orbit transfers across various scenarios, including co-planar transfers, equatorial to polar orbit transfers, and geostationary transfer orbit (GTO) to geostationary earth orbit (GEO) transfers.

Reach-Avoid-Stay-Collision-Avoidance Negotiation Framework for Multi-Agent Systems via Spatiotemporal Tubes

This study presents a multi-agent negotiation-based framework to obtain collision-free paths while performing prescribed-time reach-avoid-stay (RAS) tasks for agents with unknown dynamics and bounded disturbance. By employing spatiotemporal tubes to generate time-varying state constraints, we ensure that all agents adhere to RAS specifications using synthesized controllers. To prevent inter-agent collisions, a negotiation mechanism is proposed where successful negotiations result in spatiotemporal tubes for each agent fulfilling desired tasks. This approach results in a completely distributed, approximation-free control law for each agent. The effectiveness of this mechanism was validated through simulations of multi-agent robot navigation and drone navigation tasks involving prescribed-time RAS specifications and collision avoidance.

Enhanced $A^{*}$ Algorithm for Mobile Robot Path Planning with Non-Holonomic Constraints

In this paper, a novel method for path planning of mobile robots is proposed, taking into account the non-holonomic turn radius constraints and finite dimensions of the robot. The approach involves rasterizing the environment to generate a 2D map and utilizes an enhanced version of the $A^{*}$ algorithm that incorporates non-holonomic constraints while ensuring collision avoidance. Two new instantiations of the $A^{*}$ algorithm are introduced and tested across various scenarios and environments, with results demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed method.
