Traversable Wormholes and Yukawa Potentials

Traversable Wormhole are amazing astrophysical objects predicted by General Relativity which are able to connect remote region of space-time. Even if their existence has not been proved yet they are object of continuous investigation. From the theoretically point of view, to exist, traversable wormholes need a special form of energy density termed exotic. Since this exotic source must be concentrated on the throat of the wormhole, we discuss the implications of assuming Yukawa-like profiles which could be realize such a configuration.

Casimir Wormholes

Casimir energy is always indicated as a potential source to generate a Traversable Wormhole. It is also used to proof the existence of negative energy which can be built in the laboratory. However, in the scientific literature there is no trace of the consequences on the traversable wormhole itself. In this work, we would like to consider such a source to see if and which kind of traversable wormhole can be produced. As a further analysis, we examine also the consequences of Quantum Weak Energy Conditions on the traversability of the wormhole. We find that an agreement with the original Casimir traversable wormhole is found. Nevertheless, despite of the traversability result, one finds once again that the traversability is only in principle but not in practice.

Self Sustained Traversable Phantom Wormholes and Gravity's Rainbow

We consider the effects of Gravity's Rainbow on the self-sustained equation which is responsible to find new traversable wormholes configurations powered by their own gravitational quantum fluctuations. The form of the shape function considered is obtained by imposing the equation of state $p_{r}=ωρ$. We investigate the size of the wormhole as a function of the parameter $ω$ in the phantom region. We discover that a wormhole which is traversable in principle, but not in practice, can be produced.

Gravity's Rainbow and Black Hole Entropy

We consider the effects of Gravity's Rainbow on the computation of black hole entropy using a dynamical brick wall model. An explicit dependence of the radial coordinate approaching the horizon is proposed to analyze the behavior of the divergence. We find that, due to the modification of the density of states, the brick wall can be eliminated. The calculation is extended to include rotations and in particular to a Kerr black hole in a comoving frame.

Rainbow's Stars

In recent years, a growing interest on the equilibrium of compact astrophysical objects like white dwarf and neutron stars has been manifested. In particular, various modifications due to Planck scale energy effects have been considered. In this paper we analyze the modification induced by Gravity's Rainbow on the equilibrium configurations described by the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff (TOV) equation. Our purpose is to explore the possibility that the Rainbow Planck-scale deformation of space-time could support the existence of different compact stars.

Cosmological Constant from a Deformation of the Wheeler-DeWitt Equation

In this paper, we consider the Wheeler-DeWitt equation modified by a deformation of the second quantized canonical commutation relations. Such modified commutation relations are induced by a Generalized Uncertainty Principle. Since the Wheeler-DeWitt equation can be related to a Sturm-Liouville problem where the associated eigenvalue can be interpreted as the cosmological constant, it is possible to explicitly relate such an eigenvalue to the deformation parameter of the corresponding Wheeler-DeWitt equation. The analysis is performed in a Mini-Superspace approach where the scale factor appears as the only degree of freedom. The deformation of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation gives rise to a Cosmological Constant even in absence of matter fields. As a Cosmological Constant cannot exists in absence of the matter fields in the undeformed Mini-Superspace approach, so the existence of a non-vanishing Cosmological Constant is a direct consequence of the deformation by the Generalized Uncertainty Principle. In fact, we are able to demonstrate that a non-vanishing Cosmological Constant exists even in the deformed flat space. We also discuss the consequences of this deformation on the big bang singularity.

Gravity's Rainbow and Compact Stars

A number of recent studies has focused on the implications of new physics at the Planck scale on the equilibrium of compact astrophysical objects such as white dwarf and neutron stars. Here we analyze the modification of the equilibrium configurations induced by the so-called Gravity's Rainbow that account for Planck scale deformation of the space-time.

The Distorted Wheeler-DeWitt Equation

The Wheeler-DeWitt Equation represents a tool to study Quantum Gravity and Quantum Cosmology. Its solution in a very general context is, of course, impossible. To this purpose we consider some distortions of General Relativity like Gravity's Rainbow, Varying Speed of Light Cosmology, Generalized Uncertainty Principle deformations and Hořava-Lifshitz gravity which could allow the calculation of some observables like the cosmological constant. For simplicity we consider only the Mini-Superspace approach related to a Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker space-time.

Gravity's Rainbow and Traversable Wormholes

In the context of Gravity's Rainbow, we compute the graviton one-loop contribution to a classical energy in a traversable wormhole background, by considering the equation of state $p_{r} = ωρ$. The investigation is evaluated by means of a variational approach with Gaussian trial wave functionals. However, instead of using a regularization/renormalization process, we use the distortion induced by Gravity's Rainbow to handle the divergences.

Traversable Wormholes in Distorted Gravity

We consider the effects of Distorted Gravity on the traversability of the wormholes. In particular, we consider configurations which are sustained by their own gravitational quantum fluctuations. The Ultra-Violet divergences appearing to one loop are taken under control with the help of a Noncommutative geometry representation and Gravity's Rainbow. In this context, it will be shown that for every framework, the self-sustained equation will produce a Wheeler wormhole, namely a wormhole of Planckian size. This means that, from the point of view of traversability, the wormhole will be traversable in principle, but not in practice. To this purpose, in the context of Gravity's Rainbow we have considered different proposals of rainbow's functions to see if the smallness of the wormhole is dependent on the chosen form of the rainbow's function. Unfortunately, we discover that this is not the case and we suggest that the self-sustained equation can be improved to see if the wormhole radius can be enlarged or not. Some consequences on topology change are discussed.

The Cosmological Constant as an Eigenvalue of the Hamiltonian constraint in a Varying Speed of Light theory

In the framework of a Varying Speed of Light theory, we study the eigenvalues associated with the Wheeler-DeWitt equation representing the vacuum expectation values associated with the cosmological constant. We find that the Wheeler-DeWitt equation for the Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker metric is completely equivalent to a Sturm-Liouville problem provided that the related eigenvalue and the cosmological constant be identified. The explicit calculation is performed with the help of a variational procedure with trial wave functionals related to the Bessel function of the second kind $K_{ν}\left( x\right) $. We find the existence of a family of eigenvalues associated to a negative power of the scale. Furthermore, we show that at the inflationary scale such a family of eigenvalues does not appear.

The Cosmological Constant in Distorted Quantum Cosmology

We give a calculation scheme for the cosmological constant computation with the help of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. This last one is regarded as a Sturm-Liouville problem with the cosmological constant considered as the associated eigenvalue. By fixing the ideas on a Friedmann-Lema\^ıtre-Robertson-Walker line element in ordinary gravity, we apply this calculation scheme on distorted gravity. By distorted gravity, we mean all the deviations from General Relativity. We restrict our proposal on Gravity's Rainbow and Noncommutative geometry. A brief comment on Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) theory is discussed.

Gravity's Rainbow: a bridge towards Horava-Lifshitz gravity

We investigate the connection between Gravity's Rainbow and Horava-Lifshitz gravity, since both theories incorporate a modification in the UltraViolet regime which improves their quantum behavior at the cost of the Lorentz invariance loss. In particular, extracting the Wheeler-De Witt equations of the two theories in the case of Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker and spherically symmetric geometries, we establish a correspondence that bridges them.

Electric Charges and Magnetic Monopoles in Gravity's Rainbow

In this work, we explore the possibility that quantum fluctuations induce an electric or magnetic charge or both, in the context of Gravity's Rainbow. A semi-classical approach is adopted, where the graviton one-loop contribution to a classical energy in a background spacetime is computed through a variational approach with Gaussian trial wave functionals. The energy density of the graviton one-loop contribution, in this context, acts as a source for the electric/magnetic charge. The ultraviolet (UV) divergences, which arise analyzing this procedure, are kept under control with the help of an appropriate choice of the Rainbow's functions. In this way we avoid the introduction of any regularization/renormalization scheme. A comparison with the observed data lead us to determine the size of the electron and of the magnetic monopole which appear to be of Planckian size. Both results seem to be of the same order for a Schwarzschild and a de Sitter background, respectively. Estimates on the magnetic monopole size have been done with the help of the Dirac quantization procedure. We find that the monopole radius is larger than the electron radius. Even in this case the ratio between the electric and magnetic monopole radius appears to be of the same order for both geometries.

Naked Singularities are not Singular in Distorted Gravity

We compute the Zero Point Energy (ZPE) induced by a naked singularity with the help of a reformulation of the Wheeler-DeWitt equation. A variational approach is used for the calculation with Gaussian Trial Wave Functionals. The one loop contribution of the graviton to the ZPE is extracted keeping under control the UltraViolet divergences by means of a distorted gravitational field. Two examples of distortion are taken under consideration: Gravity's Rainbow and Noncommutative Geometry. Surprisingly we find that the ZPE is no more singular when we approach the singularity.

Does Gravity's Rainbow induce Inflation without an Inflaton?

We study aspects of quantum cosmology in the presence of a modified space-time geometry. In particular, within the context of Gravity's Rainbow modified geometry, motivated from quantum gravity corrections at the Planck energy scale, we show that the distortion of the metric leads to a Wheeler-De Witt equation whose solution admits outgoing plane waves. Hence, a period of cosmological inflation may arise without the need for introducing an inflaton field.

Gravity's Rainbow induces Topology Change

In this work, we explore the possibility that quantum fluctuations induce a topology change, in the context of Gravity's Rainbow. A semi-classical approach is adopted, where the graviton one-loop contribution to a classical energy in a background spacetime is computed through a variational approach with Gaussian trial wave functionals. The energy density of the graviton one-loop contribution, or equivalently the background spacetime, is then let to evolve, and consequently the classical energy is determined. More specifically, the background metric is fixed to be Minkowskian in the equation governing the quantum fluctuations, which behaves essentially as a backreaction equation, and the quantum fluctuations are let to evolve; the classical energy, which depends on the evolved metric functions, is then evaluated. Analysing this procedure, a natural ultraviolet (UV) cutoff is obtained, which forbids the presence of an interior spacetime region, and may result in a multipy-connected spacetime. Thus, in the context of Gravity's Rainbow, this process may be interpreted as a change in topology, and in principle results in the presence of a Planckian wormhole.

Self Sustained Traversable Wormholes and Topology Change Induced by Gravity's Rainbow

We consider the effects of Gravity's Rainbow on the self-sustained equation which is responsible to find new traversable wormholes configurations which are sustained by their own gravitational quantum fluctuations. The same self-sustained equation is also used to discover if topology change is possible. In this contribution, we will show that in both uses, the self-sustained equation will produce a Wheeler wormhole, namely a wormhole of Planckian size. This means that, from the point of view of traversability, the wormhole will be traversable in principle, but not in practice. From the topology change point of view, the background metric will be fixed to be Minkowskian in the equation governing the quantum fluctuations, which behaves essentially as a backreaction equation, and the quantum fluctuations are let to evolve. Analyzing this procedure, we will show that the self-sustained equation, endowed with a Gravity's Rainbow distortion, will be responsible of a topology change with the appearance of a Planckian wormhole.
