Projective representation theory for compact quantum groups and the quantum Baum-Connes assembly map

We study the theory of projective representations for a compact quantum group $\mathbb{G}$, i.e. actions of $\mathbb{G}$ on $\mathcal{B}(H)$ for some Hilbert space $H$. We show that any such projective representation is inner, and is hence induced by an $Ω$-twisted representation for some unitary measurable $2$-cocycle $Ω$ on $\mathbb{G}$. We show that a projective representation is continuous, i.e. restricts to an action on the compact operators $\mathcal{K}(H)$, if and only if the associated $2$-cocycle is regular, and that this condition is automatically satisfied if $\mathbb{G}$ is of Kac type. This allows in particular to characterise the torsion of projective type of $\widehat{\mathbb{G}}$ in terms of the projective representation theory of $\mathbb{G}$. For a given regular unitary $2$-cocycle $Ω$, we then study $Ω$-twisted actions on C$^*$-algebras. We define deformed crossed products with respect to $Ω$, obtaining a twisted version of the Baaj-Skandalis duality and a quantum version of the Packer-Raeburn's trick. As an application, we provide a twisted version of the Green-Julg isomorphism and obtain the quantum Baum-Connes assembly map for permutation torsion-free discrete quantum groups.

Finiteness of metrics on state spaces

We show that Connes' metric on the state space associated with a spectral triple is nowhere infinite exactly when it is globally bounded. Moreover, we produce a family of simple examples showing that this is not automatically the case.

Exotic cyclic cohomology classes and Lipschitz algebras

We study the noncommutative geometry of algebras of Lipschitz continuous and Hölder continuous functions where non-classical and novel differential geometric invariants arise. Indeed, we introduce a new class of Hochschild and cyclic cohomology classes that pair non-trivially with higher algebraic $K$-theory yet vanish when restricted to the algebra of smooth functions. Said cohomology classes provide additional methods to extract numerical invariants from Connes-Karoubi's relative sequence in $K$-theory.

A higher Kac-Moody extension for two-dimensional gauge groups

Let $Γ$ be a finite dimensional Lie group and consider the smooth double loop group, i.e. the Fréchet Lie group of smooth maps from the 2-torus to $Γ$. For a finite dimensional Hilbert space V, let H denote the Hilbert space of vector valued $L^2$-functions on the 2-torus. The purpose of this paper is to construct a higher central extension of the smooth double loop group from the representation of the smooth double loop group on H induced by a smooth action of $Γ$ on V. This higher central extension comes from an action of the smooth double loop group on a 2-category and yields a group cohomology class of degree 3 on the smooth double loop group. We show by a concrete computation that this group cohomology class is non-trivial in general. We relate our higher central extension to the Kac-Moody extension of the smooth single loop group as a higher dimensional analogue of the latter. More generally, given a group G acting on a bipolarised Hilbert space, we apply higher category theory to construct a group cohomology class of degree 3 on G. As a second motivating example, we use these ideas to introduce a higher central extension of the group of invertible smooth functions on the noncommutative 2-torus.

Comparison of spaces associated to DGLA via higher holonomy

Fof a nilpotent differential graded Lie algebra whose components vanish in degrees below -1 we construct an explicit equivalence between the nerve of the Deligne 2-groupoid and the simplicial set of differential forms with values in the Lie algebra introduced by V.Hinich. The construction uses the theory of non-abelian multiplicative integration.

Quantization of Hamiltonian coactions via twist

In this paper we introduce a notion of quantum Hamiltonian (co)action of Hopf algebras endowed with Drinfel'd twist structure (resp., 2-cocycles). First, we define a classical Hamiltonian action in the setting of Poisson Lie groups compatible with the 2-cocycle stucture and we discuss a concrete example. This allows us to construct, out of the classical momentum map, a quantum momentum map in the setting of Hopf coactions and to quantize it by using Drinfel'd approach.

The K-theory of twisted multipullback quantum odd spheres and complex projective spaces

We find multipullback quantum odd-dimensional spheres equipped with natural $U(1)$-actions that yield the multipullback quantum complex projective spaces constructed from Toeplitz cubes as noncommutative quotients. We prove that the noncommutative line bundles associated to multipullback quantum odd spheres are pairwise stably non-isomorphic, and that the $K$-groups of multipullback quantum complex projective spaces and odd spheres coincide with their classical counterparts. We show that these $K$-groups remain the same for more general twisted versions of our quantum odd spheres and complex projective spaces.

The orbit method for the Baum-Connes Conjecture for algebraic groups over local function fields

The main purpose of this paper is to modify the orbit method for the Baum-Connes conjecture as developed by Chabert, Echterhoff and Nest in their proof of the Connes-Kasparov conjecture for almost connected groups \cite{MR2010742} in order to deal with linear algebraic groups over local function fields (i.e., non-archimedean local fields of positive characteristic). As a consequence, we verify the Baum-Connes conjecture for certain Levi-decomposable linear algebraic groups over local function fields. One of these is the Jacobi group, which is the semidirect product of the symplectic group and the Heisenberg group.

Equivariant Algebraic Index Theorem

We prove a Γ-equivariant version of the algebraic index theorem, where Γ is a discrete group of automorphisms of a formal deformation of a symplectic manifold. The particular cases of this result are the algebraic version of the transversal index theorem related to the theorem of A. Connes and H. Moscovici for hypoelliptic operators and the index theorem for the extension of the algebra of pseudodifferential operators by a group of diffeomorphisms of the underlying manifold due to A. Savin, B. Sternin, E. Schrohe and D. Perrot.

Deligne groupoid revisited

We show that for a differential graded Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$ whose components vanish in degrees below -1 the nerve of the Deligne 2-groupoid is homotopy equivalent to the simplicial set of $\mathfrak{g}$-valued differential forms introduced by V.Hinich.

Tate tame symbol and the joint torsion of commuting operators

We investigate determinants of Koszul complexes of holomorphic functions of a commuting tuple of bounded operators acting on a Hilbert space. Our main result shows that the analytic joint torsion, which compares two such determinants, can be computed by a local formula which involves a tame symbol of the involved holomorphic functions. As an application we are able to extend the classical tame symbol of meromorphic functions on a Riemann surface to the more involved setting of transversal functions on a complex analytic curve. This follows by spelling out our main result in the case of Toeplitz operators acting on the Hardy space over the polydisc.

Canonical holomorphic sections of determinant line bundles

We investigate the analytic properties of torsion isomorphisms (determinants) of mapping cone triangles of Fredholm complexes. Our main tool is a generalization to Fredholm complexes of the perturbation isomorphisms constructed by R. Carey and J. Pincus for Fredholm operators. A perturbation isomorphism is a canonical isomorphism of determinants of homology groups associated to a finite rank perturbation of Fredholm complexes. The perturbation isomorphisms allow us to establish the invariance properties of the torsion isomorphisms under finite rank perturbations. We then show that the perturbation isomorphisms provide a holomorphic structure on the determinant lines over the space of Fredholm complexes. Finally, we establish that the torsion isomorphisms and the perturbation isomorphisms provide holomorphic sections of certain determinant line bundles.

Uniqueness of the Momentum map

We give a detailed discussion about existence and uniqueness of Lu's momentum map. More precisely, we introduce the infinitesimal momentum map, and we study its properties. This allows us to describe the theory of reconstruction of the momentum map from the infinitesimal one. We provide the conditions for the uniqueness of the momentum map.

A transformation rule for the index of commuting operators

In the setting of several commuting operators on a Hilbert space one defines the notions of invertibility and Fredholmness in terms of the associated Koszul complex. The index problem then consists of computing the Euler characteristic of such a special type of Fredholm complex. In this paper we investigate transformation rules for the index under the holomorphic functional calculus. We distinguish between two different types of index results: 1) A global index theorem which expresses the index in terms of the degree function of the "symbol" and the locally constant index function of the "coordinates". 2) A local index theorem which computes the Euler characteristic of a localized Koszul complex near a common zero of the "symbol". Our results apply to the example of Toeplitz operators acting on both Bergman spaces over pseudoconvex domains and the Hardy space over the polydisc. The local index theorem is fundamental for future investigations of determinants and torsion of Koszul complexes.
